Advice Needed -Currently Working as Hyperion/Brio Developer

I am currently working as a Hyperion Developer. Am in charge to developing day to day Brio reports for salesreps, inventory,regional managers . Am also Jr administrator for Hyperion Performance Suite and upload reports in there so that users can run them online.I want to further specialize in this field and am looking for suggestions so that I can become a Hyperion consultant. Am currently in Houston,TX and want to get better pay and develop further skills. Do I need to take any certifications or what is in demand at this time or what i should to do to enhance my skills.

What kind of reports do you generate. Can you brief a sample report that you create on a daily basis?

Hi All,
everything else on my computer is working fine except Ichat- it worked fine when I was logged in via a wireless network however I am now home for the summer and my router does not work for mac computers. It does work however if I plug it in directly with a cord to the router. When I open ichat it tries to log into my aim account multiple times. however it comes up with an error that i have tried to log in too many times. i have already tried changing the port to 443 like other topics had suggested but that was unsuccessful- any ideas? thanks everyone!

Welcome to the  Discussions
I can see several possibilities here.
1) When away you set a Location in System Preferences > Network > Airport Card and this restricts the Wifi card from joining other networks.
2) The Wifi Router you are currently trying to access is restricted in the IPs or MAC (Media Address Card) numbers that can join the Wifi part of the Network
The part about trying to log on to AIM and not making it may be down to the Ports ichat uses not being open in the routing device.
If it connects to the Internet for Web Browsing and Mail via Ethernet it is not that the router does not work with Macs. It is about whether it is set up to allow other computers to join the network in particular ways.
If you could tell us the make and model of the routing device we may be able to point you to other info to access the set up pages with a Web Browser.

Advice needed on working around Duet nightmares...

After reading numerous complaints on the net about the noise issue with the duet's Instrument LINE-INs, I have finally come to terms with the fact that I'm stuck with a half-functional unit. So rather than bore the forum with desperate questions on how to solve the noise issue (there has been no concrete solution forthcoming from all the posts I have read online), I chose to instead find a way to work around it. The mic inputs are very good, no noise/hiss, so I was thinking maybe I could record my external synth (motif ES) through them. My main concern is that I'm getting a dedicated external pre very soon and it has always been my understanding that it is not a good idea to feed the signal into the mic inputs because that would mean the signal goes through a second pre (in the duet). Until I stumbled upon this thread http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=11076817&#11076817 . The last poster (Steve-Oceanic records) mentions something that gives me hope.

Right, what I think you're hearing is grounding noise from the Mac leaking into the audio circuits. Are you using the Mac Mini described in your tag line?
What kind of power supply does it use?, external/internal?
One of the things to try although not advised by electrical engineers is to use a three to two prong grounding adapter, this way only a basic two plug connection is attached to the wall current.
(Instead of the Mac you could try the ground adapter on the Motif providing it has a three prong wall plug)
I use one on a couple of pieces, of course, that decision is up to you.

Advice needed: The way to solve out of memory problem (or the way to work with big csv files)

I'm in trouble: I have a big csv file (over 5gb of web-analytics data) and my 64 bit excel (and 6gb ram)
I cant load file to data model because of it's size. There is an error "out of memory" in power query.
This is the first time when I encountered such a problem.
What options do I have to work with such a file? To increase memory in my computer? Would it solve the problem? How much do I need to work with 6gb csv?
Or may be I can upload my data somewhere to azure and work with it there?
So the problem - is there any way to deal with big files using power query? Or I need to become a developer and learn sql or other languages?

Am need to get myself out of some Financial situations, where I owe some people.
Now I need to go commericial hunting, I consider myself a fairly good editor (still need to learn some other stuff though).
I don't know how to use Illustrator or Photoshop, which I think I will need to know, if am going to get commericials done and stuff like that.
I know before I get the business am going to need to study and practice more, so that I will be able to execute these jobs professionally.
So am seeking the guidance and assistance of my fellow forum users.
I also not in a financial position to purchase much books and tutorials.
Am using a Canon T3i and a Macbook pro 15.4inch 8gb ram.

you're trying to do something thats inherently very expensive to do ( tools you need to work ).
for example. if you want to shoot stuff you need to either own or rent the tools to do that.. and it is very expensive on the pro level.
to edit is the same. even more so really.. as the machines and programs etc to edit pro stuff is very expensive.
but
and this is a big BUT ...
you can also rent that stuff depending on situation you are in.. or you can 'borrow, beg , etc ' to do what you need to do in order to satisfy a client's needs.
this gets into the " client " area of the business.. where if you want to monetize your " talent" you need a client to pay for your time etc.
If you want to learn it before you have the talent to offer client..you have to absorb the cost of that education etc... until you save enough to offer that client your own special service and talent.
In other words, work as an editing assistant etc and get experience and save your money to go off on your own ..if you know what I mean ?
Sometimes schools help to do this when you're young... but you will still need the equipment ( tools ) at the end of your education to supply the product to clients...
no matter what you do or how you look at it.. this is a very expensive business to be in... to give clients what they need.
It also demands that what you USE FOR PROGRAMS give a product that is acceptable ( hence this forum helps ADOBE develop a suite of products designed to help

Video intensive work on Mac Pro? Advice Needed

I've been originally saving up for a while now for an iMac 24" as it offers the best specification price wise. But now I leaning on the Mac Pro and therefore need some advice.
I know that there are alot of posts on advice - need to buy mac etc. so therfore I would really appreciate if I am afforded some help.
I am mostly going to do ALOT of video encoding (via handbrake) and I am looking for the best configuration available to achieve lowest waiting time.

I think you should go back and look at the other threads with advice, your budget. There is "ideal" and "affordable."
Will it pay for itself in 24 months so you can afford the next revision at that time?
Start with an 8-Core 3GHz.
Add a Port Multiplier controller and two drive cases, 5 drives each, nearly 400MB/sec RAID.
Throw in 8GB RAM.
Add in costs for software upgrades, two sets of backups, four internal 500GB drives.
Seagate has 750GB, as does WD. Hitachi has their $450 1000GB monster.
Give yourself time to build, test, and optimize your setup, and expect to change it over time as you learn more.
Can't afford that? then trim the 8-core. But Apple has shown how efficient next generation applications already are for video when it comes to 3GHz 8-core Mac Pro.

If i install each application in single single system the system count is more than two. In this case, are we have any license issue? Please advice how the problem will solve?

I already answered that. If you purchased a Suite then you can only install and activate it on two machines. Even if you only insdtall one of the applications of that suite, it counts as one activation of the suite. You cannot take the six or seven different applications that might be in a suite and install and activate them in six or seven different machines... only two machines.
If your scenario will allow for it, one thing you can do is install the programs on all the different machines and only activate two of the machines at any given time. If you need to activate a program on a third machine then you need to deactivate on one of the currently activate machines first so that you have an open activation to use again. I do not remember if there is a limit to the total number of activations you can process for the life of the software.

1z0-051 Certification - Advice Needed

Hello Guys,
I have been reading, learning and practicing Oracle 11g SQL Fundamentals for the last 3 months and finally ready to take up the Exam 1z0-051 by October 15th 2009.
The only book I used: OCA Oracle Database 11g SQL Fundamentals I Exam Guide (Exam 1Z0-051)
Version I practiced: Oracle 11g (Practiced almost using the SQL Developer and not the SQL*Plus)
Samples Questions I worked on: I got access to Skillport's 1z0-051 Testprep course (Sponsored by my Company).
I feel confident enough but then I would like to hear from the ones who already passed this exam.
Are there any other material or samples questions I need to work or concentrate on?
How would you rate the exam from a beginner's perspective. (When I say beginner, I mean a person with just 6 month experience in Oracle Database.) Is the exam dead easy or moderate or really difficult?

If your performing adequately on the questions with OCA Oracle Database 11g SQL Fundamentals I Exam Guide (Exam 1Z0-051) and I believe you've put in lots of practice besides then its probably time to have an actual exam attempt.
Certainly you seem to be on the approach advocated by [http://blogs.oracle.com/certification/2009/05/the_route_you_choose.html]
I personally, and I accept people are different, feel that from once I feel I have an 80% chance of passing then I need to have a shot at the exam simply because if I fail I'd be in a better mindset to attempt a retry.
There are additional tests you can buy from the authorirized providers ( [OCA Oracle Database 11g SQL Fundamentals I Exam Guide (Exam 1Z0-051)] ) or you can get additional practice tests from the Sybex book.
I must admit I value practice tests like golddust; the second time I attempt the a practice question I may remember the answer so I always like to leave a practice tests late into my revision cycle and if possible to take the last one (or two) just before I go for the exam.
But IMHO I think you've put a lot of commendable effort into studying and its worth having a go at the exam. Take usual exam advice, my chemistry tutor used to say If all else fails read the question ... Dont be thrown off course if the first few questions throw you and be aware of the time remaining; there is no point running out of time and not attempting an answer to all questions. You mave the option of marking questions for special review. And the ones you can answer correcctly do so; quickly double check your answer, and move on; on dwell on it ... the time will be beter spend elsewhere. Exam technique only comes to most moere mortals with practice.

SAP is like a big ocean which contains many modules and have roles as technical consultant, functional consultant, development consultant at broad level.
If you want to do coding in SAP the you have to go for ABAP (the programming language for SAP) and you already know JAVA, it will be an added benefit for you. Plz find two linkss which talks about various modules of SAP. Go through these modules and decide which one you like most:

Advice needed on locking co-ordination

Ok, this takes a little explaining. I have 5 databases, A, B, C, D and E.
I insert a record into A, and create secondaries automatically in B and C. A record in D and E is then created based on the key value of the record in A (so not via a secondary database).
The problem is that I am not always inserting into A. I actually look to see if the entry is in A first. If it is, I just update a count which causes no action in B or C, but still results in writes or updates to D and E.
It is all co-ordinated from the key value in A. What I want to do is to create a transactional lock where from the momeny I look up the key value in A that until I release that lock, nothing can do anything related to that value. The reason I want to do this is that multiple threads need to work on these tables, all updating A. I can't use transactions as they are too slow and the volumes are very large, so performance is critical.
I do a search key on A first to see if the record exists before deciding to update or write a new one. Am I write that if I use a cursor to do the getSearchKey() with a lock mode of RMW that this will lock the record in database A? If so, how do I release that lock?
Basically, I figured if I could lock the record in A that I do the getSearchKey() on, then I could happily do whatever I wanted to B, C, D, E and once finished, release the lock on A, but I am little confused as to how to do it!
I am not worried about lock contention because the chances of hitting the same record are slight, but are definitely there.

If so, I suggest that you create the record contents assuming that it does not exist (that it is the first write for that key). Call putNoOverwrite. If it succeeds, you're done. If it fails, change the record contents to be appropriate for an update, then call put().
If I misunderstand, please post the code you're using for doing the put() operations and I may be able to give better advice.
Using Lockmode.RMW has slowed things down, but the
multiple thread route using a 2 CPU dual-core (core-2
duo) XEON processor machine gives me only a 10%
performance improvement! I have not done any locking
of my own. The design lends itself to multiple
threads with no contention, just using the record
locking discussed before, so I am at aloss to know
where to start looking for what obviously is a
performance problem. I have configured so it can run
threaded or not. In the example file I am using it is
running 11 threads. This is data source dependent,
and as I said fits the design well. The number of
threads makes no difference really, as long as it is
over 3 you get the 10% benefit, but no more.You say that "design lends itself to multiple threads with no contention". Are you sure that one thread is not trying to update the key that is currently locked by another thread? If you can describe how your keys are assigned, and also post the code for doing the put() operations, I may be able to give more help.
JE uses record locking, as you probably know, so as long as multiple threads are working on different keys there should not be a lot of contention between threads. However, each time you do a put operation there is a Btree lookup, so there is still some contention. The locks on the Btree nodes are short lived, but they are still locks. We call these short lived locks "latches".
If you set the environment config parameter je.env.sharedLatches to true, JE will use shared (non-exclusive) latches for higher level Btree nodes. This will improve concurrency when multiple threads are accessing the Btree. You can set this config parameter in the je.properties file or by calling EnvironmentConfig.setConfigParam.

Skills/Knowledge needed for low latency/high throughput development

I have a meeting/technical interview next week for a department at work (foreign exchange). It is going to be a technical interview. I know from the team that they use java heavily, using jvm optimisation, modifications to garbage collection, and have servers placed as close to the exchanges as possible to minimise latency. They said they need to work in "micro seconds" opposed to milliseconds and this means being as efficient as possible.
I love java development, but am relatively inexperienced but i really want this job. What would you suggest needs to be researched for a role like this in order to stand the best chance of getting it. I dont think knowing about inheritance, auto boxing/unboxing is going to help much in this?
I am thinking potentially looking at new releases to the java platform such as closures to demonstrate i am keeping up to date with current trends but as for the rest of it i am not really sure.
I would really appreciate some pointers around considerations for low latency / high volume / highly concurrent development in java if possible.
Just for a little more detail, the backend uses KDB database with a java fx front end

How is any of what you just said relevant? I was 'so blunt' because you seem to be setting yourself (and your potential new teammates) up for failure. Based on what you posted you are nowhere near qualified for the task you described.
Further there is absolutely NOTHING in what you posted that talks about any skills that you DO have. You didn't mention A SINGLE THING about your skillset or how you might add value to that team or project.
Your educational experience should provide some guidelines for how you advance your skills in ANY subject. Each college course has prerequisites and for good reason. Taking a course when you don't have the proper foundation and background is the surest way to fail. Colleges don't let you do it. You have likely been in classes where some of your classmates were clearly in over their head. For those people that course will be nothing but headache and heartache and their chances of success are minimal.
It is the same with most endeavors including the one you mention in your thread. Naturally you want to challenge yourself when you join a new project or team but you have to be able to hold your own and contribute. Taking on a task or project when you don't have the necessary experience will not only subject you to unnecessary problems but you can easily have a large negative impact on the entire team and project.
I suggest you try to find a different project where whatever (still unknown to us) skills you have can be used to contribute to the team effort. No one expects new team members to know everything or as much as more experienced developers but they also don't want an 'anchor' that is going to drag them down.

Hi All,i am currently working on a flex application that will allow the user to change the language within the application from english to Japanese and vice versa. And everything works fine.
I am using flex 4.5
We allow the user to save records with english or japanese texts.
problem
When the user manually enters Japanese text and tries to save it the record defaults back to the default name (which is in english). But if you copy the entered text and paste it and then save it.It works fine.
Any idea , why this is happening?

By Payal integration , you mean paypal button html ? or payment gateway setup etc ? If its a gateway configuration for your site domain then single page for all layout will work , but if you are using button code for all renditions then you would need to create separate pages for all.

Advice Needed - Sports Highlight Video - How to Combine Projects?

I am trying to create a Soccer Highlight Video of my daughter. The purpose is to be able to showcase her skills in a video and hopefully generate interest from collegiate coaches. I have recorded video of multiple games which are each about 80 minutes long. I am guessing I average about roughly 2 minutes of submittable footage from each game. Once the final video is complete, it will be posted on you tube and the link will be sent out to the appropriate college coaches.
I am currently working with each game separately as an individual project. Once I have all the games editted, I would like to combine all of these individual game projects into one big project. Once combined, I will then want to cut out a good portion of the game clips and just keep the really good stuff for the final product.
My biggest question is in regard to bringing each small project together for the final project. Can I "publish" each project and then import the "published" product into Permier Elements 11? Is there an easy method?
Any advice on how to easily do this would be very much appreciated.
(I am using Premier Elements 11 (trial version) and AVCHD video files taken with a standard video camera. If I can get this figured out I will definitly be purchasing the software.)

The smartest way to work would be to set the Work Area Bar in each project so that you only output the segments of your videos you're going to use in your compilation. This will save you a lot of editing later as well as save you having to work with big, whopping files that you're only using short segments from.
The best way to do this depends on how you're going to publish your finished video. Is it going onto a DVD? BluRay? YouTube or other online site? Video for a portable device, like an iPad?
Each has its own best workflow.

Russian and Chinese Flash movies - general advice needed please

This is a plea for some general 'jumping off' advice. I am an experienced Flash developer but now have a request to convert an existing xml-fed movie into both Russian and Chinese. I speak neither of these languages so we have had the content of the movie translated by a professional translation service.
The movie contains both png/jpgs with embedded text - created in Fireworks and also (for the bulk of the content) external xml files. I still need to be able to develop in an English environment - so purchasing a full version of Flash/Fireworks in Russian/Chinese would be folly. How should I go about this? If it is a matter of fonts - where should I get them from? And are there any considerations to be met with regards the xml files? Basically, I would really appreciate some general advice on this subject as it is completely new ground for me.

Thank you. Having the airports all in proximity was the key and, of course, I eventually found the same advice in an apple help file. I set the new AExtreme up as WDS main with an ethernet disk for backups and music. An old AExtreme as WDS remote serves the Cube by ethernet and a usb printer. An AExpress as WDS remote serves one stereo. The other AExpress is WDS relay serving another stereo and helping the network reach the office where the last old AExtreme is WDS remote with another USB printer. The 3 mac laptops are happy. I have yet to try any PCs.
