Advice needed: decent field recording mic...

Hi
Been trying to record some beautiful natural sounds with a "good for it's price" small mini-disc stereo mic.
unfortunately sounds too tinny and it just is far too sensitive to wind (yes, i've tried simulating a nice wind shield - even used my sock today!...) and makes a beautiful stream sound more akin to me running a bath! It's ok at picking up background ambience with a hiss - but that's about it.
So, the point is can anyone recommend a great field mic (with wind protection) that i can use with my minidisc recorder or my powerbook mobile setup?
I'm happy for a mono mic - though stereo would be cool. Something that will make my recordings sound more "pro" and my price range is about £100-200 ($200-400).
All help and advice is much appreciated!

Just to offer a difference of opinion. I have both a mono and stereo mini disk mic (both Sony I think). They work surprisingly well. I wouldn't record and orchestra with them, but for what they are intended for, they are very good. And no schlepping.
and please dont go out and buy a Ipod.
I love ipods. I've been trying to find a way to convince my wife that I need one since they came out. LOL. (hmmm ... "I just need it as a transportable drive" ... that was working until she found out how cheap other drives are now)

types of mic,s soundcard, preamps, interface, mixing-desk/ neve/tascam />berringer/mackie, sound-craft. Processor, c.p.u. fruity-loops, Garage-band, >i would say m-audio , but in your case no, diggidesign, apogee, rme, g2, g5 >mac-pro, dell power-mac then without even aking you'll know the
range or cost of pro, equipment.
All interesting stuff and you know about lots of gear there. But I can't imaging any of that stuff having use in the field. It's heavy. How would you power it. You'd scare all the wild life away. And the crew would laugh you off the set. Except the fruity loops part. Snacks are always good in the field. LOL

I made a simular test site using Dreamweaver and got it to

paragraphs where all ran together in one large text block. What do
I need to do to keep my input formating?

Need help getting second mic to record

I am recording using Apogee Duet with two inputs, and have created two tracks in Logic Express, but I seem to only get one input / track to record. I have checked the I/O, and track1 is setup with XLR1 and track2 is setup with XLR2. There is only one strip on the verticle side of the window displayed at a time, but both show up at the bottom (in the editing section?) of the display window. Both tracks has the R button highlighted red for record. Not sure what else I should do. Your help is very appreciated.

Make both tracks Mono. It seems to me that Apogee Duet inputs are a stereo-pair. But when recording Mic signals, you don't need a track to be stereo (cause a signal from microphone is mono anyway). Once you made tracks mono, you'll be able to engage both for recording simultaneously (provided you selected different inputs for each track).

Neglecting empty field record while retracting data using InfoSpoke

I am trying to load data from cube to DB table using Info Spoke.
While transferring data from cube to DB Table I want to skip the empty field records.
Example:
Data in the Info Cube:
EmpNo Emp Name Salary
 101 Robbert 10000
 Bob 50000
Data need to be transferred to DB Table:
EmpNo Emp Name Salary
 101 Robert 10000
Because second record's Emp No is blank.
I tried in various ways under SELECTION tab in RSBOH but failed to get it

I need to display records in multiple groups

I am extracting data for a summary report. Based on the Group formula below, 2 records fit into 2 different groups but will only display in one group.

RESULTS: 2 records contain the required "100 Code" AND "@CurrentPhase" but only display in the top 3 groups and not also in the last group. This is an inserted sub-report so the main report count on the "@CurrentPhase" field is 7 but this sub-report only displays 5 records. What am I missing?

when you have an if then else statement, once a condition is met then the formula exits. that's why the records won't show up in both cases.
also, a record from a database can only show up in one group by default. you'd need to duplicate records in sql in order to have what was once one record show up in two groups. this is possible by adding a Command object that is a UNION ALL but you'd need to dive into some sql for that.
if you don't want to go the sql route, what you can do in cases like this if you're simply wishing to display a table is to use cross-tabs. in your case you can create 2 cross-tabs, one for the A, C, S selections and another for SorAorCorYandCurrentPhase.
steps
1) create a new formula called s1 with this syntax
if {Original100_GeneralInfo.100 Code} = "A" THEN "Projects Added to the Original 100" else
if {Original100_GeneralInfo.100 Code} = "C" THEN "Projects Combined with Other Projects" else
if {Original100_GeneralInfo.100 Code} = "S" THEN "Projects Split into Other Sub-Projects"
2) insert a cross-tab and use s1 as the Row
3) add the required fields to the summaries
4) you can format the cross-tab in the cross-tab expert tabs so that you can get things like no grid, no cell margins, horizontal summaries, etc.
5) copy and paste your cross-tab to a new section below the existing one
6) create another fomrula with this syntax
if {Original100_GeneralInfo.100 Code} in ["S", "A", "C", "Y"] AND {@CurrentPhase} = "Pre-Design" THEN "Original 100 in Pre-Design Phase"
7) in the new cross-tab, delete the existing s1 formula for the row and add the new formula instead
8) in your cross-tabs, you may have one blank row representing values that don't fit into the above categories. you can suppress those based on the blank value. if you do pursue this route let me know and send a screenshot of the cross-tab in design mode once it's done.

Will recording mic audio in mp3 codec be supported by FMS in the future

I am newbb to flash. I am developping a mobile app for video chat using FL3. Then I realized that FL3.x only support mp3 streaming for now. So I turn to the server side and found that FMS3.5.1 doesn't support record or live mic audio in mp3. This causes a quite difficult situation. I am wondring if there's a solution/workaround for this? And mostly importantly, I am wondering if recording mic audio in mp3 is ever going to be supported. If anyone can answer this.

Jay's lowdown is 100% correct. And definitely don't hold your breath waiting ;-)
My sense is that internally Adobe fiercely guards against bloat in the size of the Flash Player installers. Fiercely.
But now they have AIR too. And Acrobat. (Both of which now include Flash Player in their current versions.)
Personally, I would settle for MP3 encoding in AIR as a first step. Plus, VP6 and H.264 in AIR.
My sense is that the hurdle against bloat in the AIR installer size is dramatically lower. And we definitely need these additional encoding capabilities built-in to some runtime.
So, whenever you have a chance to lobby Adobe engineers or submit requests to their wishlist, just keep asking.

Field recorder (Zoom H4n) and CanonHFS100 workflow?

Hi all,
Hoping someone can describe an efficient way to work with a zoom h4n and final cut pro. I'm able to capture fine from my camera using log and transfer, but I will be adding audio from a field recorder to the mix.
I'm aware there is a plugin which can sync sound in the absence of timecode, i think it's called PluralEyes? But I'd like to learn to use timecode information too.
The Zoom recorder can produce .bwf files. Can FCP read these?
Do I need to use a clacker and sync every clip by hand? When I do this, how do I 'link' the audio and video?
I've been reading all I can, and everything I've gathered from conversations around the net seem to indicate that yes, there are ways to get it working... and I'd love to hear specifics about how people work with this kind of setup (integrating sound recorded separately)...

I didn't disconnect the zoom properly before unplugging it, and since then I am having the same problems as you??? Very frustrating....

Do you have a backup of your iPhone which contains these messages?
If so, you can restore a new iPhone from that backup during setup.
If not, the messages are gone.

Are you looking for a field to act as a constant where you can store the PO Item Quantity which was initially created???
If so, not really sure on the reason but you can get the orginal qty value from Change Documents.

Advice needed on buying iphone as gift

I went to apple store, they do not want to sell iphone to me unless I sign AT&T 2 years plan. I thought AT&T has locked the phone and users must subscribe in order to use it. Why Apple store still not allow me to buy?
Please advice, if I want to buy online iphone for my brother, do I or my brother have obligation to sign out AT&T plan?
One more advice needed, I found the shipment takes weeks, do I have option to arrange for self-collection?

Apple Stores have been instructed not to sell you an iPhone if any of the following is true:
You state that you will not be signing up with AT&T.

Video intensive work on Mac Pro? Advice Needed

I've been originally saving up for a while now for an iMac 24" as it offers the best specification price wise. But now I leaning on the Mac Pro and therefore need some advice.
I know that there are alot of posts on advice - need to buy mac etc. so therfore I would really appreciate if I am afforded some help.
I am mostly going to do ALOT of video encoding (via handbrake) and I am looking for the best configuration available to achieve lowest waiting time.

I think you should go back and look at the other threads with advice, your budget. There is "ideal" and "affordable."
Will it pay for itself in 24 months so you can afford the next revision at that time?
Start with an 8-Core 3GHz.
Add a Port Multiplier controller and two drive cases, 5 drives each, nearly 400MB/sec RAID.
Throw in 8GB RAM.
Add in costs for software upgrades, two sets of backups, four internal 500GB drives.
Seagate has 750GB, as does WD. Hitachi has their $450 1000GB monster.
Give yourself time to build, test, and optimize your setup, and expect to change it over time as you learn more.
Can't afford that? then trim the 8-core. But Apple has shown how efficient next generation applications already are for video when it comes to 3GHz 8-core Mac Pro.
