Advice needed on how to master a dj mix.

hello, i hope i am posting this in the right forum. i use soundtrack pro to record my dj mixes.
when i record a mix in soundtrack pro, it's 1 long song. sometimes certain parts of the mix come in at a lower volume than other parts.
how can i bring up the volume on the lower parts and make them equally as loud as the other songs? or, how do i level out the volume without making the mix sound worse?
any advice on getting the EQs and other settings right would be appreciated.
if anything's not clear, please let me know.

Advice needed on how to approach this, passing around strings

Hello everyone,
I'm new to network programming and I was just wondering if I could get some clarification and some advice on networking.
Right now I have a serversocket program that accepts a connection from another server that is sending large strings (events), my server socket program takes these strings (events) and parses them and up stores them into an object and then into a multi-map.
Now I'm going to take these events and turn them into a string again, and send them to a receiver.
I'm confused on the processes of how this will happen.
My Sever Socket program creates a server socket, and listens on port 5656, the program thats sending me the strings (events) connects to socket 5656, and starts sending me data.
Now once this data is processed and stored as a message object, then what do I have to do to send it off to another program?
Do I open up another Sever Socket, and listen on port 5000, then when that other reciever program connects to 5000 it will start sending those strings to it?
If this is the case, what if there is no connection to 5000 to recieve the strings I'm going to send to it? Would I need to maybe store all the strings in a vector and when the client connects to port 5000, should I just start sending them from the vector?
Or should the recieving application be also a server? So as soon as I get my first string, I can just use the Socket class, rather than the ServerSocket to create a connection like: Socket echoSocket = new Socket("taranis", 5000); Asumming taranis is the name of the server that wants the strings I parsed.
So my application will have a SocketServer to accept the incoming string, then it will create a Socket and connect to another server to send the string?

Or should the recieving application be also a server?That seems like much the better alternative.
BTW why don't you just pass the events around in their original form, using Serialization, rather than string-ifying and de-stringifying them everywhere?

Advice needed on how to keep large amounts of data

Hi guys,
Im not sure whats the best way is to make large amounts of data available to my android app on the local device.
For example records of food ingredients, in the 100's?
I have read and successfully created .db's using this tutorial.

However to populate the database I use flash? So this kind of defeats the purpose of it. No point in me shifting a massive array of data from flash to a sql database, when I could access the data direct from the as3 array?
So maybe I could create the .db with an external program? but then how would I include that .db in the apk file and then deploy it to users android device.
Or maybe I create a as3 class with an xml object init and use that as a means of data storage?
Any advice would be appreciated

You can use any means you like to populate your SQLite database, including using external programs, (temporarily) embedding a text file with SQL statements, executing some SQL from AS3 code etc etc.

Advice needed on how to photograph stars

Advice needed on how to avoid bogus warning "suspected phishing site"?

I keep getting bogus warning "suspected phishing site" that sometimes blocks safe sites. I have checked the firewall, which is off and allowing all incoming connections. How can I avoid such bogus warning?

Advice needed on how to track down a program after 3 mins upti

Hi... really struggling with tracking down a daemon/script that is running on my system.... have openbox, with some gnome, xfce and lxde programs to make it more gui based. Wondering if someone can can help me track down the program that is over-riding my synaptics config?
Basically, I have a synaptics config file in xorg.conf.d that is read and applied at boot. Then at around 3min 28 secs of uptime, this config gets overridden. I have stared at the output of top to see if there is anything showing up at around that time, but I not noticing anything!
The arch wiki mentions;
Gnome settings daemon may override existing settings (for example ones set in xorg.conf.d) for which there is no equivalent in any of the graphical configuration utilities. It is possible to stop gnome from touching mouse settings at all:
Run dconf-editor
Edit /org/gnome/settings-daemon/plugins/mouse/
Uncheck the active setting
It will now respect your system's existing synaptics configuration.
however, this option is not available, so I am assuming this is not the cause (might be mistaken?), but am now lost. I have tried to remove dconf, but it has dependencies I use for smbclient, namely gvfs.
Any ideas / help / guidance or what ever would be great!

Oh, overridden. My bad, I read "overwritten" by accident. My apologies. Unfortunately I don't think I can help. Sorry :\. lsof should still help you if what you're trying to do is track though. GDB wouldn't be a bad idea, either.

Upgrading g4 advice needed

Hello, I have a power pc g4/533 mhz, and since i know nothing about computers, i was wondering if someone could give me some advice as to how 2 make my machine run better; i heard there are cpu upgrades? i use a lot of flash, final cut, and other software like that, and lately the programs have been running slower and slower, if i upgrade my cpu will that help? or what would you recommend? These r my system specifications (its in a different language, so im gonna try 2 translate it... hope i do it correctly):

As stated before (...and lately the programs have been running slower and slower...), it is very likely that your current internal Hard Disk (which, at the most, is an Ultra ATA, 60GB in capacity) has reached is near to full storage capacity.
Under OSX you should be aware that once the hard disk has reached 80-85% of its full capacity in data stored on it, it is time to either move some old files onto external media (such as CD-Rs) in order to free some additional space, or to increase your data storage capacity.
Since you ...use a lot of flash, final cut, and other software like that..., I will NOT reccomend you to just add another Ultra ATA hard disk on the same bus your current disk is connected to (which is usually the easiest thing to do). This because, although your internal Ultra ATA/IDE bus is capable of handling two hard drives connect to it (one set as "Master" and the other set as "Slave"), moving large files from one drive to another could prove to be painfully slow and experiencing a lot of "data chunkin'" from the drives.
The IDE bus, in fact, allows only small "data packages" to be exchanged on the same bus, forcing the disks' hardware to continuos data seeks and retrivals. See this Storage Acceleration Guide for more details about what I am trying to explain you.
If you use applications such Final Cut Pro and Flash, it is likely you are handling files which - on average - are of pretty large dimensions.
That's why I am suggesting you to add another hard disk, BUT make sure the new hard disk is on a different data bus from your present one.
How to do that? Well, there are two solutions which come to my mind. I'll explain both to you and then you choose the one which suits you best. One is "short term" but, perhaps, more economical. The other is more "long term" and more expandable.
Short term solution
My idea is to swap your internal Ultra ATA hard disk with a more modern one, 120GB in capacity (as it is the maximum capacity your internal IDE controller will allow you to format), and to place your current hard disk into an external FireWire case.
Pros:
* - You will have two hard disk drives on two separate data "buses" as desired, for best performance.
* - You will still be able to start-up your Mac from your old hard disk placed in the FireWire case and connected to one of your Mac's FireWire ports.
* - Once you'll have installed OSX in the new drive and moved all your applications and data to it, you will be able to use your older drive in the FireWire box as your main backup drive, where you can hold a copy of all your pretious projects, etc.
* - Whatever final set-up you will ahve in the future, you will always find a good use for your older hard disk placed in the FireWire external box and even when, or if, it will eventually die on you, you can still use the box to place another har disk in it. So, your money will be in any event wisely spent.
Cons:
* - Maybe, having to deal with an additional external case, it will be cause of excessive electrical wireing around your working desk, making it look more "un-tidy".
* - You will need to find an extra power plug on your strip.
* - If you use an UPS system (like any of these), you will need to figure out wheather it can protect your new external addition or not, without the need to get a more powerful one.
* - You will need to instal the old hard drive on your own, if you don't want to spend the extra cash for someone else to do it for you (however, the instructions are easy to follow).
Here are a couple of examples with indicative costs:
* Seagate Barracuda 120GB with 8MB cache memory, to be installed internally in place of your existing hard disk.
* FireWire (Combo) Case Kit where to install your present internal hard disk, once you've swapped it with the above new one; this particular example comes in a box including indipendent power supply, screws, FireWire cables and instructions.
Here are a couple of other useful instruction links:
* Apple's CIP ATA Hard Drive instructions - "How to" video guide (QT movie).
* Apple's CIP ATA Hard Drive instructions - Same as above but Adobe Reader printable download.
* OWC FireWire Assembly Manual - Maybe the model you might go for in the end, could differ from the one depicted in the above instructions, but the main activities are the same.
Let me know if you like the above solution.
In another post, I'll explain you the second solution I have in mind.

24" 2008 iMac with busted video card, advice needed.

I have a 2008 24" iMac in which the video card is busted. The machine will turn on, get to the log in screen with no issues, however there is absolutely no video output to the screen.
I have attempted connecting it to an external monitor using mini DVI to VGA and a VGA cable, but the machine is not set to display to an external monitor.
Having the video card replaced will cost in the region of €300, an amount I'm reluctant to spend on a machine which is seven years old.
I have it backed up, so I'm really looking for advice to to how to wipe it so I can sell it on for parts, or other suggestions...

Need to filter the Master Column

Hi Experts,
I need to filter a master column in my wd table. I am not finding an option to get the filter text in VewController. Master column of the filter row is not enabled to enter filter text. Can some one suggest me how can I proceed to make filter enabled for master column?

If you are using table UI element, you have to do some bit of coding to get the filter row.
1. Define a context node with cardinality 1..1. This node should have the attribute(s) for which a filter is required, and the attribute should be that same data type as that of the column attribute.
2. In the layout tab, for the specific table column for which filter is needed, bind the 'filterValue' property to the corresponding attribute created in step 1.
3. Define and implement an event handler for the 'onFilter' event of the table. This event handler should programatically filter the table.
Now, in the layout itself you should see the 'Filter row' for the table.

Video intensive work on Mac Pro? Advice Needed

I've been originally saving up for a while now for an iMac 24" as it offers the best specification price wise. But now I leaning on the Mac Pro and therefore need some advice.
I know that there are alot of posts on advice - need to buy mac etc. so therfore I would really appreciate if I am afforded some help.
I am mostly going to do ALOT of video encoding (via handbrake) and I am looking for the best configuration available to achieve lowest waiting time.

I think you should go back and look at the other threads with advice, your budget. There is "ideal" and "affordable."
Will it pay for itself in 24 months so you can afford the next revision at that time?
Start with an 8-Core 3GHz.
Add a Port Multiplier controller and two drive cases, 5 drives each, nearly 400MB/sec RAID.
Throw in 8GB RAM.
Add in costs for software upgrades, two sets of backups, four internal 500GB drives.
Seagate has 750GB, as does WD. Hitachi has their $450 1000GB monster.
Give yourself time to build, test, and optimize your setup, and expect to change it over time as you learn more.
Can't afford that? then trim the 8-core. But Apple has shown how efficient next generation applications already are for video when it comes to 3GHz 8-core Mac Pro.

PC to Mac transtion advice needed...

I have just purchased a Mac and I am way too busy to recreate all my site definitions, etc. Does anyone have any advice as to how to make this transition as smooth and fast as humanly possible?
I am really new to Mac, so even if I copy the .ste files, I have no idea where I should be putting them, or if I even can.
ANY advice would be great! Have looked in the forums and can't seem to find anything, but if anyone has a link to the answer, that would be great, too!

Jules, you may want to put together an organizational structure on your Mac for any and all websites you manage.
The .ste files are completely compatible cross-platform, so that should take care of the FTP settings, passwords and the like. I like to email myself this kind of information so that I can use Apple's Mail to find them in the clear, just in case I need to enter them again. Apple's Mail has an outstanding search function.
In my User space, I have a /sites folder that is also on my Dock. Within that /sites folder are all of my websites (over 50 presently). I can get to that by clicking it on the Dock, which will spring open up a large window with each website folder available for a quick click to open.
In my /documents folder, I have a company folder with an alias to the desktop. That folder contains all work product for all websites I manage, named after the company in question. "Work product" includes contracts I have signed along with full-sized images that were reduced in Photoshop for the websites in question. Photoshop's "Save for Web" function will recall your last-saved path and a regular "save" in Photoshop will remember that path as well.
In this way, I'm able to quickly do photo editing, banner making and so on.
In an early version of Dreamweaver CS5, there was a big issue with File Vault. I'm not sure I'd use that, but it has been fixed in the later updates from Adobe. One thing that particularly works wonders with Dreamweaver is Time Machine. A client asked for a change on a particular page and I opened up Dreamweaver and made the changes. Then he told me that he needed those changes on a different page, not the one I had changed. Time Machine saved the day. Get yourself a drive about 2x the size of your boot drive and use it for Time Machine. Make sure you get connected to it and stay connected to it. If you are using a Laptop, get a Time Capsule and do the initial backup over Ethernet. Incremental backups are painless and frequent. Time Machine will save you in Dreamweaver projects.

How the master data delta works

i want to know how the master data delta (ale pointer) works? what the principle is? for example, the 0asset_attr datasource has 20 fields, any of the 20 fields changes can triger the delta? if i enhance 3 fields to the asset master data, does the 3 fields change can trigger delta?

Application Link Enabling (ALE) change pointers are configured and used to be able to trigger processing of an outbound process, such as data extraction, and determine only those Master Data records that have changed. This is all done without the need for a program being required to determine deltas.
SAP delivered program, RBDMIDOC runs periodically and deterlines if change pointers have been updated for specific message types. New or modified Master Data records are automatically initiated via ALE. RBDMIDOC references the correct IDoc program for any given type via TBDME (the TBDME table also cross-references message types with the ALE change pointer table) so that the data goes where it should and is processed accordingly. Tcode BD60 is the interface in SAP for maintaining the TBDME table.
When a change is made to the standard content Master Data record, the delta will be identified. Any columns that have been enhanced to the Master Data will not be identified as a delta because enhancements are a post-extraction process and only get updated after the standard content structure has been populated.

If the usual method does not work, you can also do this manually.

The application Acrobat provides no language translation capability.
If you localize the language for OS, MS Office applications, Acrobat, etc to the desired language try again.
Alternative: transfer a copy of content into a web based translation service (Bing or Google provides a free service).
Transfer the output into a word processing program that is localized to the appropriate language.
Do cleanup.
