Advice needed on working around Duet nightmares...

After reading numerous complaints on the net about the noise issue with the duet's Instrument LINE-INs, I have finally come to terms with the fact that I'm stuck with a half-functional unit. So rather than bore the forum with desperate questions on how to solve the noise issue (there has been no concrete solution forthcoming from all the posts I have read online), I chose to instead find a way to work around it. The mic inputs are very good, no noise/hiss, so I was thinking maybe I could record my external synth (motif ES) through them. My main concern is that I'm getting a dedicated external pre very soon and it has always been my understanding that it is not a good idea to feed the signal into the mic inputs because that would mean the signal goes through a second pre (in the duet). Until I stumbled upon this thread http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=11076817&#11076817 . The last poster (Steve-Oceanic records) mentions something that gives me hope.

Right, what I think you're hearing is grounding noise from the Mac leaking into the audio circuits. Are you using the Mac Mini described in your tag line?
What kind of power supply does it use?, external/internal?
One of the things to try although not advised by electrical engineers is to use a three to two prong grounding adapter, this way only a basic two plug connection is attached to the wall current.
(Instead of the Mac you could try the ground adapter on the Motif providing it has a three prong wall plug)
I use one on a couple of pieces, of course, that decision is up to you.

The backup is encoded as a SQLite database. It can't be read without special software. All the "files" you see inside the backup file are different components of the backup, not different backup files. I believe the reason that not all the dates match the date of the backup is because the backup file components are only updated when you sync rather than recreated from scratch, so not all the components are new.
To read and extract data from the backup you have to use 3rd party software such as iPhone Backup Extractor.

Can't do ISAKMP & fixup protocol esp-ike. I need a work-around HELP

I have a pix where I have the "fixup protocol esp-ike" enabled. In this pix, I am trying to set it up as VPN Lan-to-Lan, so the first line I try is "isakmp enable outside", but as soon as I type it, it tells me
ISAKMP cannot be enabled since fixup protocol esp-ike is enabled. Please correct your configuration and re-issue the command
I read that NAT-traversal can perhaps fix this, but I already tried it. I typed "isakmp nat-traversal 3600" and it went OK. I then tried the "isakmp enable outside" again but it gave me the same error message
So I don't know what to do at this point

No, PAT is not being used in my pix. Only NAT. My pix 506e acts as a NAT device.
I have read that the 2 commands aren't compatible, so I was asking if there is a work-around that someone can help me with?

Am also Jr administrator for Hyperion Performance Suite and upload reports in there so that users can run them online.I want to further specialize in this field and am looking for suggestions so that I can become a Hyperion consultant. Am currently in Houston,TX and want to get better pay and develop further skills. Do I need to take any certifications or what is in demand at this time or what i should to do to enhance my skills.

we are having an odd issue in one of the DB Scripts as below is the actual content of the Test1.sql

Check the file in a hex viewer and see what the encoding is. I would guess that the file lacks an initial byte-order mark, or has a BOM which does not match the encoding.
In a good text editor you can choose encoding when you save a file, this may correct the problem. It might also be possible to change the encoding in Clearcase. (I don't know Clearcase, but it is possible in TFS.)
If everything else fails, please upload the exact file somewhere (Skydrive, Dropbox etc) so we can look at it.

FM hypertext doesn't work - work around in RH doesn't work... need help!

I am working in TCS2 in Windows XP. I posted this in the RH discussion too... I hope that is OK that I put it here as well (hoping to reach the correct audience somehow!)
I am trying to single-source things. So I have created a huge doc in FM. Within FM, I have hypertext links to openfile a PDF (which works just fine in FM, and when I generate a PDF it still works nicely). Then I import into RH and those hypertext links don't work anymore. So I created my own little work around:
Went to that place and coded the FM hypertext as PRINT
Added a hypertext link (coded as ONLINE) that will jump to the required destination in the online help files
Works beautifully. But b/c I am single-sourcing (I think) whenver I make changes in the FM files and I have to update the RH files, the manual changes I've made to the RH files (as above) disappear. That is not going to work for me... I cannot do that manual work around everytime I update... too hard to remember, to time consuming, etc. etc.
Here is ultimately what I need:
-the PDF link to work in FM (which it does) - usable in PRINT generation
-a RH link which jumps to that location in RH - usable in ONLINE generation

Could it be as simple as the setting in the RoboHelp HTML Single Source Layout of "Mark Of The Web"? (MOTW)
With MOTW enabled, links to local files such as PDFs don't work. At least when you test using Microsoft Internet Explorer.

Smart Mailbox needs "include Junk Mail Folder" option, seeking work-around

For me it's convenient to have a Smart Mailbox defined simply by "Message is new", as this collects together in one place all the unread messages that I've set rules to put in different mailboxes. While there is an option on the panel for defining Smart Mailboxes to include Trash or Sent in the smart-search, there is no such option to include the Junk mail folder, which I would like to do for a while until I believe it has "learned" well enough what I consider junk or not.
(Apple, take note: If Trash is an option, Junk should be, too!)
Any suggestions for a good work-around? Thanks!

I suggest you send feedback to Apple by filling out the [Feedback Form|http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html>. Maybe they'll incorporate these options in a future version of Mail.

PS: Concerning your "complex criteria". Have you already tried the boolean operators "or" and "not" in the search field? (BTW, two search strings are by default combined with the "and" operator, so there is no need for a separate "and".)

Mac OS X does not offer a Clean install option. If by clean install you mean erasing the system, that is not recommended unless:
1. You bought a used/refurbished Mac and there is software on it without any accompanying discs, and it is older than July 20, 2011 in model release:

Or if it is at or newer, then erase it if it has applications installed that would not have been prebundled with it and you have no CDs for those applications.
You don't want someone else's software keys, or accounts, or to be running unlicensed software. At and newer Macs offer a built-in internet restore for their software with a command-R boot that lets you erase the system with Disk Utility, and then install from the internet the latest operating system.
2. You have a hardware issue and want to eliminate possible software issues as the cause when troubleshooting a problem all at once.
Issues affecting a new install have to be isolated before you attempt it. Unless you know it is software or hardware, erasing may only mask other problems.

I'm in trouble: I have a big csv file (over 5gb of web-analytics data) and my 64 bit excel (and 6gb ram)
I cant load file to data model because of it's size. There is an error "out of memory" in power query.
This is the first time when I encountered such a problem.
What options do I have to work with such a file? To increase memory in my computer? Would it solve the problem? How much do I need to work with 6gb csv?
Or may be I can upload my data somewhere to azure and work with it there?
So the problem - is there any way to deal with big files using power query? Or I need to become a developer and learn sql or other languages?

Video intensive work on Mac Pro? Advice Needed

I've been originally saving up for a while now for an iMac 24" as it offers the best specification price wise. But now I leaning on the Mac Pro and therefore need some advice.
I know that there are alot of posts on advice - need to buy mac etc. so therfore I would really appreciate if I am afforded some help.
I am mostly going to do ALOT of video encoding (via handbrake) and I am looking for the best configuration available to achieve lowest waiting time.

I think you should go back and look at the other threads with advice, your budget. There is "ideal" and "affordable."
Will it pay for itself in 24 months so you can afford the next revision at that time?
Start with an 8-Core 3GHz.
Add a Port Multiplier controller and two drive cases, 5 drives each, nearly 400MB/sec RAID.
Throw in 8GB RAM.
Add in costs for software upgrades, two sets of backups, four internal 500GB drives.
Seagate has 750GB, as does WD. Hitachi has their $450 1000GB monster.
Give yourself time to build, test, and optimize your setup, and expect to change it over time as you learn more.
Can't afford that? then trim the 8-core. But Apple has shown how efficient next generation applications already are for video when it comes to 3GHz 8-core Mac Pro.

Am need to get myself out of some Financial situations, where I owe some people.
Now I need to go commericial hunting, I consider myself a fairly good editor (still need to learn some other stuff though).
I don't know how to use Illustrator or Photoshop, which I think I will need to know, if am going to get commericials done and stuff like that.
I know before I get the business am going to need to study and practice more, so that I will be able to execute these jobs professionally.
So am seeking the guidance and assistance of my fellow forum users.
I also not in a financial position to purchase much books and tutorials.
Am using a Canon T3i and a Macbook pro 15.4inch 8gb ram.

you're trying to do something thats inherently very expensive to do ( tools you need to work ).
for example. if you want to shoot stuff you need to either own or rent the tools to do that.. and it is very expensive on the pro level.
to edit is the same. even more so really.. as the machines and programs etc to edit pro stuff is very expensive.
but
and this is a big BUT ...
you can also rent that stuff depending on situation you are in.. or you can 'borrow, beg , etc ' to do what you need to do in order to satisfy a client's needs.
this gets into the " client " area of the business.. where if you want to monetize your " talent" you need a client to pay for your time etc.
If you want to learn it before you have the talent to offer client..you have to absorb the cost of that education etc... until you save enough to offer that client your own special service and talent.
In other words, work as an editing assistant etc and get experience and save your money to go off on your own ..if you know what I mean ?
Sometimes schools help to do this when you're young... but you will still need the equipment ( tools ) at the end of your education to supply the product to clients...
no matter what you do or how you look at it.. this is a very expensive business to be in... to give clients what they need.
It also demands that what you USE FOR PROGRAMS give a product that is acceptable ( hence this forum helps ADOBE develop a suite of products designed to help

I have a mac mini server, all clients are lion and need to reinstall OSX10.6b on the server, there is not remote install on lion clients, any work arounds?

The onjly thing I can think of is dual boot one client machine in to OSX10.6, but is there a anther work around?

Need the Power Supply Video Work Around Again

I managed to bring my old emac back to life after the hard drive crisis. Now I'm ready to erase and install a new system and start from scratch. However....
This machine has the defective capacitors on the board, that caused me a lot of grief a year or so back. Since getting Apple service is difficult for me I never got it repaired..even under the free extended warranty offer. But..I found instructions here on this board someplace....to remove certain items from the system folder that basically disabled some video capabilities, that left me with a good working, stable machine. If I go start over, and reinstall the system, these drivers or whatever they were, will reinstall of course, leaving me with the old problem again, and I'll be darned if I can find the information again as to what files to remove from where to work around this problem. Anyone know where I can find 'em? This work around did leave me with limited video capabilities (no DVD watching, jerky screen saver, etc..but the machine worked GREAT)

I found a workaround on page 19 or something that has got m working again.
Boot up the mac in safe mode (hold down shift when booting)
Log in to an admin account, open the finder and navigate to system>library>extensions then delete all the ATI and Nvidia extensions that have nothing to do with your graphics card. (all the rage and rage pro ones but not the generics or the 9xxx ones in my case) and reboot.
It's now working OK, other than DVD playback and quicktime online.
