Advice needed to upgrade from A2 to A3 AND move machines simultaneously

Hi, I have A2 on my Macbook Air and have just bought a new iMac and upgrade to A3.
I'm trying to work out the cleanest way to upgrade and would be grateful for your advice please
1. Can I just install A3 on the iMac? Will the licensing model let me do that (ie how will it know I'm upgrading)
2. Assuming I can do this, will it be able to recognise and 'migrate' my A2 library if I transfer it across using my external drive?
3. Or do I have to install A2 on the iMac, then upgrade it to A3 which will then naturally migrate my A2 library.
Option 3 does not feel as 'clean' hence my question
Many thanks!

When you install the A3 upgrade version on the new iMac you will be asked for the serial number from the A2 full version.
As your library is quite small you could just copy it to the new machine (/Pictures directory usually) and then open it with A3. It will be converted to A3 format which could take some time. It is also non reversible so you should keep a copy of the A2 library on the old machine until you are happy with A3.
You certainly don't need to install A2 first on the new iMac before installing A3.
Stating the obvious here but make sure you have a backup (vault) of your library before doing anything!

  • Help Needed. Upgrade from CS2 to CS3 and now PSD Linked Files Not Read?

    Hi!
Just upgraded to Illustrator CS3 and I am trying to work on a document I created in CS2 and for some reason when I open the document I am getting this message:
Could not find the linked file "filename.psd". Choose repair to locate the missing file, Replace to select another file, or Ignore to leave the link unchanged.
Now I went in to try to re-link the file, but I can not 'see' any PSD files? I had a series of transparent PSDs in that document.
Why can't the new Illustrator see my PSD files and how do I fix this problem?
    Thanks!

Hi! I just wanted to post back to say that I ran the installation CD again to fix whatever might be wrong and when I re-opened Illustrator I could go in and see the "PSD" extension to re-associate the files.
I'm now having problems with Photoshop CS3, so I'll have to sort that now. Not the smoothest of upgrades to this CS3 suite, I must say. LOL
    Oh well!

  • Need to upgrade from Tiger ASAP

So...I feel like an idiot. Somehow I never noticed before today (or even considered the possibility) that the new iPhone requires 10.5.8 or higher and I've been lazy about updating my MacBook Pro from Tiger. I was so happy I got out of store with my phone by 8am...and then I plugged it into my computer and discovered the problem. I'm upgrading from the original iPhone and I was hoping to sync my new phone with the contacts and apps and everything from the old one, but I obviously can't do that yet.
I'm fine with updating my OS but I wanted to ask for advice on the process of backing up everything on my computer beforehand and for anything else I might need to know about switching from Tiger to Snow Leopard. I'm hoping to get this done as soon as possible so I can enjoy my new phone (I mean, I already am, but it would be better with all my stuff synced on there!)

    Hi soaction;
My usual method for backup for an upgrade is to create a bootable clone on an external drive with either SuperDuper or CCC. Once the clone has been created, I always test it to be sure it can boot the Mac. Once I have done that, I proceed with the upgrade.

There is no download; you need to buy a Mac OS X 10.6 DVD.

I need to upgrade from Safari 5.1.10.  Went t the best buy site you indicated but that product is no longer available.  Now what do I do?

What model MacBook Pro and what version OSX do you have?
Safari is download as an update to OSX.
It maybe yo have to update OSX version to get the latest Safari version.
SOme model Macs can be updated to latest version of Safari/OSX since the hardware does not support it.

Prior to upgrading to Maverick, you must FIRST make sure your iMac meets all of its system requirements.

  • Is there a version of Acrobat XI Pro called 11.0.2?  I am trying to submit a grant on grants.gov, and it is telling me that I need to upgrade from version 11.0.08 to 11.0.02.

Is there a version of Acrobat XI Pro called 11.0.2?  I am trying to submit a grant on grants.gov, and it is telling me that I need to upgrade from version 11.0.08 to 11.0.02.

Here is the message that appears:  It's not a screen shot, but this is the entire page as it comes up:
To view the full contents of this document, you need a later version of the PDF viewer. You can upgrade
to the latest version of Adobe Reader from www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html

In spite of what the message says, I am using Adobe Acrobat XI Pro, not Reader.

  • I have lost nearly all my photos and events.  I received a message effectively saying that I need to upgrade from an old base.  I think I may have tried to open an event that was stored in iPhoto Buddy a few days ago.

I have lost nearly all my photos and events.  I received a message effectively saying that I need to upgrade from an old base.  I think I may have tried to open an event that was stored in iPhoto Buddy a few days ago.  iPhoto Buddy is not supported in Lion.  How can I retrieve my phjotos?

    What version of iPhoto?
    Assuming 09 or later...
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

I need to upgrade from OS X 10.6.8 to 10.7 or better in order to run TurboTax. My iMac is about 4 years old with limited space. To what do you recommend I upgrade?

    Hello kparker2112,
I understand you would like information on upgrading your operation system. The link below will help you determine if your computer meets the requirements for the current version of OS X, which is Yosemite. I would highly recommend backing up your data before upgrading any version of OS X:

  • Do I need to upgrade both LR 5.7 and Camera Raw 8.7 to import files from Canon 7dMark2?  or is LR 5.7 enough or is camera raw 8.7 enough

Do I need to upgrade both LR 5.7 and Camera Raw 8.7 to import files from Canon 7dMark2?  or is LR 5.7 enough or is camera raw 8.7 enough

Lightroom is a complete stand alone program and does not require you to have any other Adobe product on your computer.
Adobe Camera Raw is a plugin for Photoshop CS and is not require by Lightroom nor is it used by Lightroom.
However if you are using both Lightroom 5 and Photoshop CS6 /Photoshop CC and wish them to 100% compatible then you will need to update the ACR Plugin in Photoshop.
Lightroom 5.7 will work fine with your Canon 7dMk2. (Its internal processing engine is the equivalent of ACR 8.7)
To wit LR 5.7 is an alternative to ACR 8.7 Plugin in Photoshop, you do not necessarily need both.

    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mavericks, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion at the Online Apple Store. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase a redemption code at the Online Apple Store: OS X Mountain Lion. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. Use the code to redeem a download of Mountain Lion from the App Store. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion - System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 7,1 or later.

             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later.
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later.
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.

I need to upgrade from 10.5.8 to 10.6.6 before I can download MOUNTAIN LION OSX. I am having trouble finding this download for 10.6.6.

10.7/10.8 will NOT run your older PPC or most Intel software, you going to have to spend money on a older machine that might not be worth it.
    http://roaringapps.com/apps:table
Also 10.7/10.8 is slower and has more memory needs you machine might not be able to handle (4GB+) also your older CPU and graphics card.
If you want fast, OS X 10.6.8 is simply the fastest with a fresh install, even faster than 10.5. AND it runs your older software, no need to purchase new ones.
Run 10.6 until the wheels fall off that machine before you inflicted yourself with a backwards crap of the Lions.
