Advice on DVD Writer with PowerBook - Matshita DVD-R UJ-815
Hi there,
I have been attempting to burn DVDs on my PowerBook using Toast Titanium Version 6 - TO NO AVAIL. During my first few attempts to burn DVDs, the SuperDrive accepted the disc but was unable to complete the Encryption process. Burning data files on a CD-R has not been a problem - now when a blank DVD-R is inserted, it is kicked out almost immediately.
When my computer was purchased I was told that DVDs could be written at 1X. This is proving to be ever frustrating and I am beginning to fear the worst.

Martin, Burning what would be called a standard DVD is not a problem, just drag and drop into Toast,
However most users that are not familiar with the process think they can burn Commercial DVD and you can not do it without first Ripping and then it must be compressed to fit a standard 4.7gb DVD.
So you can place DATA, AUDIO, and IMAGE data as is. However if you are trying to copy VIDEO TS from a Commercial DVD Movie,
You need 2 more pieces of software....Mactheripper......and either Toast 7...or Popcorn...these last 2 have compression software included where other methods cause you to need 1 more piece of compression software to use earlier versions of Toast.... Does this help....Don

PowerBook Mac OS X (10.2.x)If in fact you are trying to burn Commercial DVD Movies you will need one more piece of software.
You can burn just about anything accept Movies that are Commercial, because they need to be Ripped and then they also need to be compressed with either Toast 7 or Popcorn....Cheers...Don

How to succesfully burn a dual layer DVD with a MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-846?
I cannot burn EMTEC DVD+R DL discs on my iMac 2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with a MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-846. I get the "The unit could not calibrate the laser for this medium.." error.
Can anyone confirm a DVD brand that will actually work?Thanks, I will try them next time.
In the meantime, I was able to burn my EMTEC DVD+R DL discs using my MacBook (2.0 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo) with an HL-DT-ST DVDRW GWA4080MA without any problems whatsoever. -
DVD Burn Failed-Matshita DVD-R UJ-815
Please help: I can not burn any DVDs. I am trying to burn some pictures from iPhoto to DVD for storage. I choose the pictures & then hit the burn icon at the bottom of iPhoto. It will run for about an hour but then stops. I keep getting "Burn Failed: the burn to the MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-815 drive failed. Unknown error." I've tried several TDK DVD-R 2x discs & the original Apple DVD-R that shipped with my computer. I am able to burn CDs with no problem but this is the first time I've tried to burn a DVD. Can you also tell me if I will be able to use TDK DVD-R 8x since I can't hardly find 2x or 4x anymore. Thanks to anyone for any help. I have lots of pictures & I've got to get them off of my computer. Thank you very much.

Matshita DVD-R UJ-815I'm having the same exact problem with my Powerbook I think, it's a 1GHz with the same Matshita DVD drive. It'll burn the disc apparently, but it never finishes. it just idles in "Closing Session 1" (i'm using a burn folder in Tiger now)...
but the problem also occurs in iDVD. and when i burn disc images.
i've found that when i see it idling (at the end of a burning cycle), i can usually eject the disc and have a working disc, but with no guarantee.
I want Apple to fix this! -
Anyone with a new iPod Shuffle that works with Powerbook G4 OSX 10.3.9 ???
I just bought the new iPod Shuffle also and my Mac OSX 10.3.9 operating system is not recognizing the iPod. This is a big issue since they are supposed to be compatible.
I called AppleCare 2 times and spent 1hr+ at the Apple Store Genious Bar. Here's the deal ... basically the new iPod Shuffle is NOT compatible with 10.3.9 ... I would guess you are having the same issue. My iPod Shuffle works fine with Tiger OS. The Genious Bar tested my computer with Tiger OS to make sure it wasn't a hardware issue and the iPod Shuffle worked fine ... but not with 10.3.9. This is definately an operating system compatibility issue.
Let me know if anyone has the same issue or better yet ... if you iPod works with Powerbook G4 OSX 10.3.9.
TSI too purchased a new Shuffle and could not get it to work with any software on my PowerBook G4 running the latest Panther (10.3.9). (Only the Disk Utility could see the Shuffle.) I also tried it on my PowerMac G5 running the latest Panther Server, and my PowerMac G4 running the latest Tiger. Given that multiple hardware AND OS configurations were failing, I had to conclude that it was some errant software I had installed on all 3 machines. (As an additional indicator, NONE of my machines would play DVDs anymore: inserting a DVD produced the dreaded "You have inserted a disk containing no volumes that Mac OS X can read.")
The culprit turned out to be the kernel extensions installed by my (older) Lexar Secure jump drive. These files are in directory /System/Library/Extensions.
IOLexarEncryptFilter.kext
IOSCSILexarCommandsDevice.kext
LexarFilterScheme.kext
I do not know if it is just one of them or all 3, but I moved all of these files out of the Extensions directory and rebooted. Presto: the DVDs play and the new Shuffle can be seen by iTunes, etc.
Note that I do not necessarily recommend messing about in the the kernel extensions directory. If anyone has a better method for removing these extensions (I couldn't find anything on the Lexar support site), then I would be grateful for your input.

I find that v4 is strictly for complete beginners.
If youve done any editing before youll find it ridiculous .
Most of the things you want to do and did before are hidden and hard to find unless you look them up in help.
I put it on and soon abandoned it and went back to v3 ( or even v2) which are far better editing programs.
Do what you like but if your looking for an improvement your wasting your money with v.4

Me use this application primarily for dumping footages from my camcorder to the PC and then trimming off the bad portions, Adding Begin title and Close title and Backing it up back to different set of tape [[[ And also shifting on DVD.
But, yes when I start adding effects / transitions, the properties window comes handy. But even then -invoking the properties panel is not as painful as most of the guys describe here. Definately not important enough to ask others to NOT to upgrade.
I would site an example of the Dual monitor stuff of version 2 (I guess ??), the 'seperate''always visible'preview monitor and edit Monitor was very helpful and I used to complain about it all the time, but with every new version there is always some change.
Definaltely - the guys out at adob must be doing enough research before putting up the final product to the user. -

Is it possible to use a USB 3.0 HDD with PowerBook G4 12" 1 Ghz OS 10.4.11? I'm using a HDD with a USB 3.0 tyo 2.0 cable that came with the drive, but it has proven to be extremely unreliable...cloned my system and backed numerous files to 3 partitions on the 1 TB drive, now I can no longer access the drive at all. None off my drive utilities will even show the volumes (TechToolPro, Disk Utility, Disk Warrior, or DataRx). If I plug it into a Windows machine running Windows 7, the drive appears, and is functioning perfectly. I'd just really like to use it with my PB G4, if at all possible...thanks for the help folks...StudioBill
You need drivers and adaptors which I doubt will work with a G4 Powerbook.

Trying to connect my iMac to on 10.8.2 with PowerBook Intel on 10.5.8; sharing works from PowerBook to iMac but not the other way around. Why?
Thanks for the interest. Preferences are similar on both machines: screen sharing, file sharing, printer sharing & scanner sharing all ticked and radio button for Screen Sharing is ON.
My confusion is that I can get a network connection to the iMac by selecting "go to server" on the PowerMac running 10.5.8 but am unable to make the iMac connect to the PowerMac using similar selections. When ethernet cable is plugged in the PowerMac shows up on the finder bar on the iMac, but it does not allow either screen sharing or connection to occur - a dialog box tells me to check System Prefs and Network connection.
I'm hoping to export a large file of photos from iPhoto on my iMac to my wife's PowerMac and hoped to achieve this with an ethernet network connection. -
After a months of stable work my new IPad suddenly denies to find cell network under any circumstances.Please advice if anyone familiar with that problem?
It sounds like there are a couple things going on here. First check if you have a successful install of SQL Server, then we'll figure out the connection issues.
Can you launch SQL Server Configuration Manager and check for SQL Server (MSSQLSERVER) if default instance or SQL Server (other name) if you've configured your instance as a named instance. Once you find this, make sure the service is started.
If not started, try to start it and see if it throws an error. If you get an error, post the error message your hitting. If the service starts, you can then launch SSMS and try to connect. If you have a default instance, you can use the machine
name in the connection dialog. Ex: "COWBOYS" where Cowboys is the machine name. However, if you named the SQL Server instance during install, you'll need to connect using the machine\instance format. Ex: COWBOYS\Romo (where Romo
is the instance name you set during install).
You can also look at the summary.txt file in the SQL Server setup error logs to see what happened on the most recent install. Past install history is archived in the log folder if you need to dig those up to help troubleshoot, but the most
recent one may help get to the bottom of it if there is an issue with setup detecting a prior instance that needs to be repaired.

Problem with Powerbook G4 - 15 inch, machine ins currently connected to the DVI/AVI adapter so I can use the powerbook with a monitor attached, and have been doing so for about 3 months so far, with no problems, now, it wont boot up without giving me the grey screen with the "please restart, hold done restart button for several seconds etc". I did the power management reset, take out battery - even though battery dead, and remove adapter, hold down button for 5 seconds etc... it worked, finally booted up, but the DVI/AVI monitor adapter stuff was not connected when it booted up. When i put them back on, and tried to restart, i get the same "please restart, hold done restart button for several seconds etc" what do you think could be happening, could it be the DVI/AVI adapter or something a lot more serious

Diagnosis
The Report Writer can only report on tables if the attributes of these tables that are relevant for reporting are defined in control tables. This is not the case for table YSCO_BASE_ALOCAC.

Error GR493 report painter/writer with special ledger

I am trying to create a report painter using a table of a special ledger. The table is the one for 'real item'. The following error appears:
'Table ZIFRSA is not installed in Report Writer.
Message no. GR493
Diagnosis

We are not using intercompany transaction. My question is if it possible to make report in report painter/writer with this table.
I can make report with the total table of special ledger, but not with the one for real item.

I guess the tables created through SPL should look as follows:
1. ZIFRST - Totals Table
2. ZIFRSA - Actual Line Item Table ( I guess this is what you are calling real item)
3. ZIFRSP - Plan Line Items Table
Bear in mind that, the report is not created off table ZIFRSA but rather ZIFRST. Please create the report writer or report painter using table ZIFRST.
If the above suggestion did not work, then check the solution provided in OSS note 3761.

Hi,
Im trying to write video and data into an avi file, and I based my program mainly on the AVI read write with data example, however My write does not seem to be writing the data to the avi file. I have a test signal which is converted to a double precision floating point number which is then flattened to a string which is then fed into the AVI write frame VI. When i display this string on the front panel it displays some random string. However when I try and play back the avi and read the string again, I can see the video, but the string seems to not be saved with the avi file, and does not display. If you have any insight on the possible reason for this problem, i would really appreciate it
I am running LabView 8 with Vision Module and USB camera drivers.
I attached the 3 files I have been using to test this all.

It looks like the problem is associated with the IMAQ AVI Create. There is an input on that vi called Has Data. This input needs to be true if you have anything wired to the Data input of the Write avi frame.vi. Try wiring a true constant into that has data input and that should correct the problem. I hope this helps.
