Advice on how to set up router

My internet provider is Fido and it's a plug and go set-up whereby you just plug in the modem and you're connected. It's like Bell and Rogers internet anywhere services. I have purchased a Linksys WRT150N router and a WMP300N wireless PCI adapter. What I want to do is have the modem and router upstairs and connect wirelessly to the PC that is in the basement. The reason for this is that the modem, while not line of site, works much better upstairs near a window. I set up the router by hardwiring it to the computer, then detached it, moved it upstairs along with the modem, then installed the wireless PCI adapter. It worked fine until the first time that I shut down the computer. After that the internet speed was terrible (about 1/10 normal speed). So I took everything apart and I'm going to start over. Is there a better way for me to configure my set-up? What would be the best way to set things up? Thanks, Jeff

It's probably not an issue with your router. I had the same thing happen with my PC on a setup that is very similar to yours. In my case it turned out that Windows XP and the Linksys program were both trying to manage the network settings and WRT300N at the same time. For some reason XP has a habit of turning the settings to lowest performance. So if possible go into your network settings and change the performance levels backup. That should cause your connection speed to increase. I'm still trying to find a way to cut out the Windows settings all together, but Microsoft doesn't make that very easy. Hopefully that will fix it for you, if you need more specific settings let me know and I can try and collect a screen shot. Good luck.

  • How to set up router as base station

    Hi -
I've recently purchased an Airport Express for the purpose of playing music from iTunes on my stereo. I've plugged the AE into my wall outlet and hooked up cables to my stereo. The AE is now flashing amber, which I understand means that I still need to establish a connection to a network.
Because my desktop uses a DSL internet connection, I acquired and set up a Netgear wireless router. My goal is to have my AE (as client) communicate with my router (as base station) wirelessly.
I tried using Airport Express Setup Assistant, but it scans for a base station and tells me it can't find one.
When I try using the Base Station Chooser on the Airport Admin Utility, it asks for the IP address and password of my base station. This presupposes that I know how to set up a base station.
Can anyone help me set up my router as a base station?
    Thanks
    John

When I open up Network Connections, I do not see any
reference to a wireless network. When Netgear
configured my router, did they necessarily set up a
wireless network? If so, how do I find it?
The Netgear is either configured by the supplied Netgear configuration utility or via a web browser.
Check the manual on how to do this.
Also, when I open Airport Setup Assistant, I receive
an error message stating that my computer has no
wireless interface enabled or Windows isn't set up to
    manage wireless networks.
In this can you will need to use the Airport Admin Utility rather than the Setup Assistant.
    It tells me to either
enable the wireless interface and allow Windows to
configure a wireless network, or to configure the
    base station using Ethernet.
    Which of these options
    should I be pursuing?
Using ethernet, plug the Airport initially into the Netgear router.

  • SG300: How to set up routing between VLANs?

I have recently purchased a Cisco SG300-10.  I need it to perform routing between two VLANs on the switch. Seems like this should be quick and easy to do from the built in GUI. When I configure it according to the documentation, it does not ropute between the VLANs.
I have set the system mode to L3 (for level 3 switching).
I have followed the instructions on pages 26 through 33 of the attached PDF (which I obtained from the Cisco site). I used the same ports on the switch and the same IP addresses as shown in the document.
Everything works until I attempt the step "ping 10.1.1.10" on page 33. This is the step to verify the level 3 switching between the 2 PCs (on separate VLANs).
The switch Firmware Version (Active Image): 1.3.5.58
I have attached the running configuration from the switch. It is the file named "running-config.txt".
The 2 PCs that I am using are running Windows 7 and Windows 8.

    Hi jkst,
There is a very minimum requirement to obtain layer 3 intervlan routing
1- 2 VLAN in layer 3 mode assigned an IP address
    config t
    vlan database
    vlan 2
    int vlan 1
    ip address 192.168.1.1 /24
    int vlan 2
    ip address 192.168.2.1 /24
2 - Active link state on each VLAN - Define a port for the second vlan then connect an IP device to that port and another device to another port since the rest of the ports will default to vlan 1
    config t
    int gi2
    switchport mode access
    switchport access vlan 2
3 - Assign your device #1 that connects to any port an ip address on the same subnet as vlan 1
Computer in vlan 1 IP info=
    192.168.1.100
    255.255.255.0
    192.168.1.1
Computer in vlan 2 IP info-
    192.168.2.100
    255.255.255.0
    192.168.2.1
Assuming these devices respond to ping and do not have external wireless communication, this will provide basic IP connectivity through the switch across vlans.

  • Need advice about how to set up a NBA finals spreadsheet.

    Hi everyone,
Some friends and I are playing a version of the Over/Under game during the NBA finals. My wife, being the geek she is, set up our score sheet in Numbers. Here's a screen shot of it:
What we're looking for is a more elegant way to set this up. M D and V are the first names of the folks participating in the game. The colored cells indicated that those predictions were correct. What we'd like is a way to automate the counting to determine the winner (and perhaps report first, second, third place, etc.)... and a way to make the whole thing easier to understand at first glance.
    Any suggestions?
My question really isn't a trouble-shooting issue. If it's not appropriate for this forum, I'm happy to delete it.

    Hi Macademic,
Your question is about how to do something using Numbers. As a 'technique' question, it's appropriate to the forum. Good thing, as you'd have some difficulty deleting your post.
The main difficulty I see is that with the positioning of the data, there doesn't seem to be an easy way to determine which bits Numbers should count as 'wins'.
Here's a possible solution. Details under the graphic.
    Data table (on left)
Column A: Descriptions. This is a sampling of your list, some repeated to show different entries for "Yes" and "Results".
B: "Yes": This contains the numerical criteria to be met or exceeded to make a "Yes" answer correct.
C, D, E: Columns for each player (identified in Row 1) to enter their guesses. Checked means "Yes", unchecked means "No"
Formula in the Footer row: =Evaluation::B Returns the value in the footer row of column B of the Evaluation table.
F: "Results": Results should be entered as numbers. See below
    Evaluation Table
    A: Formula: =IF(ISBLANK(Data::B),"",Data::F>=Data::B)
checks if an entry has been made in the "Yes" column.
If not, the formula returns the empty string ( "" ), if so, the formula returns the result of a comparison of the values in "Yes" and "Results"; TRUE if "Result" is equal to or greater than "Yes", FALSE if it's not.
This column shows the choice (TRUE=checked, FALSE=unchecked) that will be evaluated as 'Correct' in the three checkbox columns.
Note the warning triangle in A2 due to comparing the number (1) in "Yes" to the text string ("!!!!") in "Results". Any text is greater than any number, but comparing 'apples to oranges' this way will display a warning. Avoid the warning by using only numbers in "Results" (and "Yes").
Also note the error triangles in Row 7. These result from 24:00 entered into the "Yes" column being interpreted as a duration, and the smaller 15:53 entered in "Results" being interpreted as a time (of day). (Originally 3:53 PM—I must have re-entered it as 3:53 at some point.) The error triangle in B7 is due to the formula there (and in C7 and D7) referencing A7 in its calculations. I removed the formula from C7 and D7 to allow the formulas in the Footer Row to show a result,
The next two lines show workarounds to avoid the error messages.
In Row 8, "Yes" and "Results" have only the number of full minutes entered, and that value entered as a plain number.
n Row 9 the two cells have been formatted to contain Durations, and to show them as minutes and seconds, separated by a colon.
    B, C, D: Formula =IF(Data::C=$A,1,0)
In English, If the guess is correct, 1 point, if not, 0 points.
    Footer row formula: =SUM(B)
Conditional formatting is used to change the Fill colour for correct guesses.
The rule shown is for the selected cell, E10. The same rule is used for C10 and D10. For other rows, the cell reference A10 must be changed to match the row being formatted (ie. in C8, the reference would be to A8).

  • How to set my router to allow one site entrance??

Hello I need  help with limit my surfers form surfing outside my web.
I have internet spot with WRT54G Linksys Router, the access to the router is free at my Cafe place.
I would like the customers to only be able to surf to the cafe site and the options I will give in it like google search and more.
How do I make them see my site after they had logged on to the router?? like home page.. and how do I block them from free surfing to other www sites??
bottom line I want the user to access my free Wi-Fi and see the Cafe www page as the homepage at his device and not be able to get out of it to other sites on the net. All he will be able to surf trough  will be my site, the google search I will define in my site and more..
    Thanx a lot.

Look at 3rd party firmware like dd-wrt or tomato. They may have support for hot spot functionality. Standard Linksys firmware won't do it.

  • Need advice on how to set up pages!

So I am making a site and there is a section that will be
dedicated to selling boats. I need to have on one page a listing of
all the boats with a thumbnail picture and title...easy enough, I
    can handle that.
The part I can't figure out though, is that I need to be able
to click on the listing title and have it open a new page with
several more pictures and a full description. My questions:
    1. Can the database (mysql)/dreamweaver automtically resize
an input picture to a thumbnail size?
2.How can I create this layout and make it editable by users,
i.e. with a form to update records in the database that will
automatically create these pages with the input of
    descriptions/pictures, etc?
I am familiar with mysql and use phpmyadmin and Dreamweaver,
however I am no expert. Any ideas anyone?!

  • Two interfaces on different subnets -- how to set default routes?

    Hi,
I've configured an S10 box with two interfaces (both of which will eventually have zones on them), and I want to make sure that packets sent from each interface go do different default routers. Is this possible?
The routers here are configured such that they won't forward packets with a source address they don't recognise, so at the moment all traffic from the second interface is being sent through the first interface's router and subsequently dropped.
This might be a Monday morning brain fart, so apologies if nonsensical!
    Cheers
    - Ian

I would like to propose this as a new IDEA in this forum but again: NOT POSSIBLE. I am not privileged.

  • HT4587 How to set up an older version Airport Express on the 6.2 Utility

I have a older version of Aiport Express  (M9470LL/A model A1084) and I get the following message when I try to set it up with the Airport Utility Version 6.2 on my iMac with Snow Leopard 10.8.2. -
"This version of AirPort Utility doesn’t support this base station. Go to AirPort Service and Support for more information."
Any advice on how to set it up ?

Mountain Lion no longer supports the older A1084 AirPort Express that you have.
If you want to try a workaround.....not supported by Apple.....see this article to find out how to add another version of AirPort Utility that will work with Mountain Lion and hopefully allow you to configure the AirPort Express that you have.

  • How to set authorization to limint plant to craete reservation from IW32

Please advice me how to set authorization to limit plant to create reservation from IW31 or IW32 (Maintenance Order).
I set at M_MRES_WWA (authorization object) but it is not work.

    Hi consult.,
I am not very sure about the object you are using, but if it is correct(else serch for the correct object), then make a master role for the T-Codes IW31 and IW32.
then make a drived role from the above made role, and assign the object(above searched object) in the object give the value as that of your plant, and activity as per the requirement.
you can maintain as many derived roles as the no. of plants.
    hope it helps.

  • How to set up Airport Express to extend Buffalo WHR HP 54g wireless router

Contrary to what official Apple policy is, it is possible to use Airport Express as a remote repeater using a Buffalo router.
I sent hours setting up this network and wish to share what I learned
I only wanted to use the Airport Express as a repeater to distribute the internet to the far reaches of the house--no iTunes, no Printer, and I did not bother setting security.  If you want to add any of those features please make sure that the basic setup is working as described below.  I have no idea how to successfully set up these features.  My advice is to search the internet for guidance.
Anyway:  how to set up the Buffalo wireless access router to work with Airport Express
    Setting up the Buffalo:
From the routers home page of 192.168.11.1, hit the "advanced" box at the top
    1.     Go the "Wireless config"   "basic" item.  Give name to your network (spaces are allowed), lets call it "WIRENAME" and select wireless channel 1 or 6 or 11. These channels have the least interference and will tend to work when the others do not.
    2.     Go the the "repeater" item under Wireless config.  . " Enable" repeater/bridge (WDS).  Next register the MAC address of the Airport Express.  Record both the LAN and Wireless MAC addresses.
That is about it.  Your Buffalo system Info page should look like this

  • How to set up TimeCapsule (4th) to create own private (wired) network behind Airport Express (5th) that is set up to join existing wifi-network of fritz adsl modem/router?

I work in an office building with free Wifi to connect to the Internet. I want to be able to use this internetconnection, but at the same time I want to shield of my own wired network.
    I've made the following configuration:
    - fritz adsl modem / router
    - Airport Extreme (5th gen) set up to join existing wireless network (green light, works)
    - Lan-cable from lan-port AE to wan-port TC (4th gen)
    - Lan-cable from TC to Mac
    - Lan-cable from TC to Printer
When I set my TC (network-settings) in bridge-mode everything works fine, but my Mac and Printer get an IP-address from the fritz modem / router and are visible to others.
I tried to set TC in NAT/DHCP-mode, but then I get the error message that I should set a static IP-adress for TC. When I set TC in DHCP-mode, it looses connection to the AE. I'm not sure what to do now. Does anyone know how to set up my TC and create my own private network and still be able to get on the internet?

    Hajenius wrote:
Is there a better alternative? I'd rather not want to reset my TC every day.
You are using free internet.. so there is a price to pay.. that is convenience and non-ideal network setup.
The better alternative is to pay for your own connection. Then you are completely free of the possibility of others in the bullding seeing your connection. (as long as you secure the wireless).
But I think you are probably over worrying about public wifi.. if it is setup right.. ask the building admins.. it should be setup so each user cannot see another users connection. This is typical for most wifi setup and simply means you can see internet connection but nobody else on the connection. ie other wireless users.
Having a router with NAT makes it then more secure again and allows clients on your own network to interact with each other. But you can setup wireless to the free wifi for every client.. (depending on how many IP you are allowed).. and run a secondary network without internet access. This is easy for desktop etc where you have a wireless and a wired connection but less convenient for mobile devices.. unless you use a cloud connection and each client can link and share via that.
Have I made the explanation worse??
Think of it this way.. if you had 3 laptops.. all 3 could connect to the internet from the building wifi.. but they cannot talk to each other or share resources in local office. You can put resources out in the cloud, that can be shared.. but that adds traffic and most free services are not fast.
Now you can also plug all three into Time Capsule by ethernet.. and share local resources. Files, printers backup etc. This network is not connected to the internet at all. Each laptop has internet via free wifi and local connection.
For devices like iphones that have no ethernet or other method.. you could use local wireless and public wireless.. but in turns.. still the only advantage is less issues with double NAT.. if that causes problems.. then this is an alternative.

  • How to set up time capsule with router

I have a router N 300 and would like to buy time capsule but I did not find any information how to set up bouth devises. Thanks

You can always bridge the Time Capsule.. it is easy. Once bridged the time capsule will no longer route. All routing is then handled by the original router.. N300 (which could be belkin or netgear and maybe other people call then N300). It will still work as a wireless access point.. unless you turn it off, a switch with WAN now allocated to LAN, and a network drive.
    Just look up bridge.
But there are other ways to do things. You could replace the N300, unless it is a modem.. in which case you can bridge that and use pppoe client on the TC (if you ISP does pppoe).
