Advice on in-place reinstall of ZAM7.5

* Environment *
Windows 2003 SP2 Release 2
Zenworks Asset Management 7.50.0043 IR18
PRU 01/07/2009
All ZAM conponents run on the same server
The ZAM SQL DB resides on a separate SQL2005 server
* Problem *
A few weeks ago, access to the ZAM Management Admin Console on the main
ZAM server stopped working. At this stage, no errors were shown, the
Admin Console just didn't load.
An attempt was made to re-install the ZAM Admin Console but this was
done using the original ZAM7.5 CD (i.e without patches). This made no
difference so we did a uninstall and then install.Since the last
install, we are not only able to get into the Admin Console but also we
get the following error:-
"TSCMgr.ex_ - Entry Point nto found".
Does anyone know of any TIds are would help us:-
1. Reinstall the Admin Console either on the server and/or on a
standlaone PC?
2. If we do a complete uninstall, is a new install possible whilst
still allowing us to keep our existing settings, reports, filters etc
as well as negating having to reconfigure all of our 3000 windows
clients?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

If I understand correctly you are trying to launch the ZAM Manager given the filename you described. In my opinion I would not do a reinstall of the entire application (DB, Filestore, etc, just the 32bit client, i.e. ZAM Manager. I have seen this issue before and must dig to find how it was corrected.
In the meantime, attempt installing locally on your PC or elsewhere. (You can install the manager on other machines and by providing the correct connectivity information during install will work). It will update the manager to the correct level typically during second login if you have applied any IR's Then we can go back and revisit why your install on the server is not working. We may just need to have it ignore or clear some settings before attempting reinstallation there.
Let us know how installing just the 32bit manager on a different machine goes.
Thanks, Bryant

  • How can I add links to open xml and csv files stored in another location? Please advice how to place links in my frame maker document?

    Hi,
I would like to know as to how can I add links to open xml and csv files stored in another location? Please advice how to place links in my frame maker document?
    Kindly advice.
    Thanks
    Priya

Special > Hypertext > Command "open document" will do its best to open the target document inside FrameMaker, which may not be much help; Special > Hypertext > Command "message …" will use the application you specify. The user guide for 7.0 says this about absolute links, and I don't think anything has changed since:
For example, to start PaintBrush and open the Ship.pcx file on drive C you would use the command message system pbrush.exe C:/Ship.pcx
I've not often used a relative link, and not recently: the same source says
folder levels are separated by a slash / even in Windows and Mac
[relative links] FrameMaker searches for a relative pathname beginning in the folder that contains the current document
[absolute links] FrameMaker searches for an absolute pathname beginning at the top of the file system. In Windows, the absolute pathname begins with the drive specifier, a colon and a slash.

  • Re-installing, uninstalling and installing CC fails after Mac OS in-place reinstall

My Mac OS Mavericks failed (not bootable) and I had to do a reinstallation of the OS and  the CC Installer.
I have searched for online solutions including here but none are like mine or if I tried, did not work in fixing Adobe CC.
The reinstall put my old system, library , applications and system folders on my desktop. My user files, user library was still there.
I had to put the Adobe CC Apps back into my Applications folder (actually it copied them) and adobe support files back into the respective old locations to try and uninstall them and reinstall them.
I was able to uninstall Lightroom 4 and 5, Photoshop CC & 2014, Bridge, Muse, InDesign CC & 2014 and CC installer.
Some of the uninstalls were incomplete or partial or failed. I can not recall all I did, I did also try the clean up tool.
What I have now is the remains of Indesign cc, indesign CC 2014. The InDesign CC 2014 icon has been replaced with a generic icon with a circle and a slash. Clicking on it gives me the message "You can't open the application "Adobe InDesign CC 2014.app" because it may be damaged or incomplete.
I have been able to re-install Acrobat XI Pro, Bridge, Photoshop CC and 2014 and Lightroom 4 and 5
I also have broken Photoshop Elements 11 and 12 still on my computer that will not uninstall, I will try the CD next and reinstall then uninstall.
ALL of my other third party apps I don't have an issue with it is just Adobe CC.  Can I just trash all the files and will I get into issues with the mother ship when I want to reinstall them?

  • Memory Placement

About MacPro memory? I am confused by the advice about 'pairing'. The AMUG advice for instance is:
"The initial 2GB of Apple memory is installed in the rear two slots of both memory trays. The next pair of FB-DIMMs should be installed in the two rear slots of the top tray and the Apple 1GB moved to the rear of the bottom tray. This method configures the stock Apple memory as a matched pair in the bottom tray. If you add additional memory it should be placed in the front two slots of the top tray as shown in figure "3" below. Figure "4" displays the last two slots of the bottom tray being filled when all eight memory slots are populated. .."
Now this seems to be suggesting that ' pairs' should be in adjacent slots in one tray, e.g. the bottom tray. Amug say for instance ' the next pair...rear two slots...TOP TRAY' !
It is not clear in advice overall if the similarity implicit in the stated notion of a ''pair" is one merely of the size of the card, i.e. that a pair is two cards of (say) 1GB RAM, or if it extends to the pair being of a similar serial number or at least the greatest similarity possible, and those 'pairs' should be close , in the same riser.
I have just bought two kits of Kingston RAM and note that the serials are in two sets. Though each card has a distinct complete number, that number is in two parts and the first part is common between the cards in the boxed kit of two cards. The other box has two cards with a similar commonality of serials within the box, but the first part of their serials is different to the other box of two. I assume the second part of the serial is indicative only of sequence in manufacture.
All the cards are 1GB-800MHz-240Pin-PC2 640-FBDDR2-DIMM. All are said to be suitable for a MacPro MA970LL/A. All are said by Kingston to be equivalent to Apple PN MB192G/A. Ergo they are the same sort of stuff to the same design, but does the notion of a 'pair' imply that one must also be attentive to the proximity in manufacture as evidenced by the serial numbers, or at least all discernible similarities?
That said where to place a 'pair'? Should they be split between the two risers and should they be placed in the same number slot in each? Or should they as advice sometimes suggests, both be put into adjacent slots in the same riser. That is what the boys in Arizona seem to be telling me. The advice they, and Apple, give about shifting cards from riser to riser may have reason where there is to be an asymmetric configuration in terms of size between the risers but otherwise it just sets my mind in a spin.
I know computers contrary to nerdic conceit ,do not follow logic. They are a mystery and it's all to do with where you poke them with the stick. I did expect that dealing with the logic switches it might not be needing a twelve year medieval apprenticeship and blood rituals and trance states to bring an appreciation.
Now I say all this looking at a machine that has had extra two GB ram added by Apple (it came from Cork) and Sys Prof shows it, not to have similar (s.s) RAM in a pair in the same riser. There are two manufacturers for the RAM per Sys Pref and each is represented by a card in each riser. So similar (s.s.) RAM has not been put as a pair in the same riser in adjacent slots. However it is all 1GB Ram of a the same technical specification.
So does "same' 'similar' 'pair'etc just imply capacity and technical characteristics or type. Can I, if I chose, mix Kingston, Crucial, etc, etc made now with SN x and made next decade with SN xxyy? Or is memory installation a black art? Should I ask an astrologer for the auspicious disposition of the cards? I admire botany for it's taxonomic precision and it's use of a dead language with no current development and hence frozen in time in it's semantic reference.
I could ask Kingston but their answer would just get to me. Yours will get to all that read the discussions. I have read the advice you have given and Apple and seen the diagrams looking like pedigrees but.. ? Maybe this is like the 900 year old legal dispute round Durham Cathedral that got into the Guiness Book of Records, never to be solved. A matter of 'Taste' like system maintenance, or 'do Macs get Virus'?
Seriously, is advice on RAM placement derived from mere empirical experience or is there something in the habits of memory addressing that allows one to draw conclusions with a degree of analytical consistency?

    Thanks Kappy and others,
The thing is that the configuration in my brand new Macpro with 2GB added pre sale by Apple is not in accord with the advice about 'Pairs".
The advice I see from Apple is in the User manual and in more detailed form in 'Artnum 304492'. That is about the best placement for one of the Apple 'Pro' applications. It has two themes ' insert symmetrically' and in 'Pairs' the latter being amplified by a stricture not to make up a 'pair' from the RAM of two different manufacturers.
What is meant by the terms symmetry is little explained but "pairs" is made clearer by the diagram from Anand tech that Kappy mentions. `pairing could be ACROSS the risers or within a riser but the article from Anand Tech that Kappy points to shows RAM moving about in pairs of adjacent RAM cards.
However this sort of pairing is contrary to the placement of the original and the extra two GB RAM in my MacPro set up by Apple in Cork, before sale. In that machine there are two makers to the cards and each maker has a card in the same number slot on each riser. The cards have a symmetry between the risers but less within them.
What I am told by Apple care technical specialists is as follows. Firstly they tell me my 'strange' configuration with no intra riser pairs is OK. They say it should work, and indeed it does.
Apple tell me that the advice about RAM pairs is , where it is more particularly phrased, is phrased as pairing down to same manufacturer as a precautionay advice. It is so phrased to avoid a situation where a 'little knowledge' might lead one to insert pairs made up of RAM that is FUNCTIONALLY different. That is don't use RAM that is a mixture of Fully Buffered and partially buffered or non buffered, or has a different speeds, or are a mixture of DIMMS and SIMMS ,or different pins, or different capacities, and so on.
If you buy your RAM as a pair from a reputable maker then it is likely that they will supply you two cards that are functionally similar. They will all be dual channel cards and there will be no bottlenecks in use, between the input channel chosen and the output channel. (So I am told). This could be the case with ram from eight different makers ergo none being identical down to makers, but having the same functionality.
My eight MacPro type cards, depending on who made the two sets disclosed by System Profiler, include two makers in the Mac and a third, Kingston, who made four cards in two packs of two, yet to be installed.
I could place these cards, all functionally identical, by lots in the risers but Apple suggests I accord with tradition and fill the slots with RAM from the same kit in adjacent slots (i.e. A PAIR) .
Perfect symmetry could only be achieved with a kit of 8 from one maker but that is a rare species so use 4 kits of two in a case of 1GB cards. If I was to use larger capacity cards I should still use pairs in adjacent slots and try to get symmetry between the occupations in the risers but the important point is still functional symmetry between the IN channels and OUT channels. My task with 1GB cards, is simplified in that all the slots will be occupied, in itself a contribution to symmetry.
I thank Apple Care in Cork and Karen from Kingston here in UK for their clarification and an explanation of the underlying technicalities. I now know it is not a black art or a medieval mystery.

  • I can't uninstall iTunes to reinstall it

    Hi,
I seem to be having the same problem as a lot of other people regrading this latest update from apple (itunes 11.1.4) only I cannot uninstall itunes to try reinstalling it.
I downloaded the update today  and it said there was a failure. After that, I couldn't get in to itunes. I tried downloading it a installing it from the main apple site but got the same problem. I had a slightly older version of iTunes still on my PC so tried to install this. I think it was at thes point that I started getting a missing DLL file (mscvr80.dll). Though the old iTunes desktop icon is there and it is also in the program list in the uninstall panel.
After searching for a something to fix it, i used something called regfix which I think has caused more of a problem. I then started getting a runtime error saying a program had tried to fix it incorrectly (not seen that one lately though).
To be honest, I'm not sure in what order I did all the above - this has been going on quite a while now. At some point I've had the 'you are not an administrator' message as well.
Basically, I now get two-four runtime error boxes when I start my computer (r6034) and when I try to uninstall itunes it stops early on in the 'please wait while windows configures itunes' states box/panel and I get the following:
    Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
    Runtime Error!
    Program: C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes\iTunes.exe
    R6034
An application has made and attempt to load the C runtime library
    incorrectly.
Please conact the applications's support team for more information.
Apologies if there is a solution somewhere else for this but although I can find the advice for uninstalling and reinstalling, it's the uninstalling I'm having trouble with (for some of the other apple programmes too, e.g. Apple Mobile Device support) and finding a solution for that.
Would really appreciate some help or pointing in the right direction of where I can find an uninstall solution so I can at least try to install the new version.
    Thanks

I updated iTunes and it wiped out all my music in Windows Media Player so I tried a system restore, which will not now work.  I now find that I still do not have my music and iTunes has disappeared and will not allow either uninstall or install.
I followed all the instructions above but my 'programmes' will not allow uninstall or remove.

  • New Mac User Facing Sudden System Slowdowns - Advice Appreciated

I recently purchased a MacPro for video editing, switching from Premiere on my PC.
Everything was working great for the past month, and now suddenly I've been having terrible slowdowns in Final Cut Pro. Shortly after these slowdowns occured (constant dropped frames), I tried to restart the system and received a black screen with messages:
    exited abnormally, bad system call;
    respawning too quickly; throttling
I restarted, and this time the computer seemed to start up normally, but I'm still experiencing the slow performance and the dropped frames in Final Cut.
I'm fairly adept at solving performance issues in a WinXP environment, but am very new to this.
If someone could give me some troubleshooting info, I'd greatly appreciate it. Could this be a RAM issue? I did purchase extra RAM from a third party to up my total from 1 GB to 3 GB shortly after I purchased the Mac Pro. I'm also using an ATI X1900 graphics card purchased through Apple.
The only thing I have done to the system over the last couple days before this happened was download a couple free plug-ins for Final Cut and connect the Mac to the internet through an ethernet cable coming from the same router that is attached to my PC.
Again, any help, general or specific, would be greatly appreciated.

I use Final Cut Express and I wouldn't have installed the "free" plugins at all. Best advice: remove them and reinstall Final Cut Pro over your current installation of Final Cut Pro. I'm assuming here you are using the latest universal release of FCP.
As far as I know there are no or few universal plugins. And more importantly I know of no "free" universal plugins.

  • Needed to reinstall all software

Over the past month I have had repeated problems with my 18/12 old BB Curve. Lots of exception errors and "white screen of death". Reinstalling operating system worked for 1-2 weeks but then problem restarted. I had backed up all files and have just done a forced reset: http://btsc.webapps.blackberry.com/btsc/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=KB10144
I hope this sorts problem out. Be good to hear if it has for other users.

If a program crashes on startup - specifically when it is
trying to initialize fonts - then in
almost all cases it is a corrupt font. Remove all non-system
fonts and try to launch flash again.
If it starts up then you will need to reinstall each font,
start up flash to see if it is the one in
    suspect.

  • Reinstall of Apple Apps from CD messed up Aperture 2.1.1

I followed some advice on how to reinstall iPhoto, as I had uninstalled it for some reason. I was told to use the DVD's that came with my MBP and install only the optional Apps, which I did. Now iPhoto works fine, but Aperture keeps asking me for my Serial Number which I type in off the book, but it's coming up that the number is invalid.
I purchased Aperture 1.5.6 which I bought an update to Aperture 2.1 and it's now updated to 2.1.1 the only serial I have is the one off the book for 1.5.6
Does anyone know how I can get around this? I have a library of 32000 images and clients waiting for orders which I can't get out.
Just for interest the splash screen that comes up still says that it is 2.1.1

    Thanks Mike,
I was doing it the wrong way around (putting the original serial first) Thanks heaps.

  • Clean out/reinstall Mail 5.2 on OS X

I'm having issues with my Mac Mail 5.2 - even though I've defined my default email account, it's using another of my emails to send out messages. I've deleted the second email account but it's still using that as the default. I've deleted all my email accounts (all gmail) and added them back but that's not fixed the problem. Everything I've read online says you need the installation disk to reinstall Mail but I upgraded my OS directly from the internet so don't have any installation disks. My mail was working fine for the last 6 months - this is a new problem. Seems like there is something corrupt with my mail so any advice on how to reinstall/clean out default settings would be appreciated.

Thank you. I've just changed it so fingers crossed this is the solution.

  • Uninstall reinstall itunes windows

I need to do an 'in place' reinstall of the Win7 OS files. The process requires that itunes be uninstalled.
I have my music libraries stored on my local drive under my specific folder(s). After the reinstall process for the OS, I do not want to go through the headache of reloading all my music files into iTunes.
Prior to the uninstall of iTunes, do I need to first backup the ENTIRE iTunes folder(s) and then after the OS refresh copy the iTunes folder(s) back or is there a simpler more direct method?
    Mark

    Hello Markg2
The iTunes library files should remain after you uninstall iTunes. When you reinstall iTunes everything should be in the same spot where you left it. I would recommend backing up your files before reinstalling an operating system. The articles below will give more information about removing iTunes and related components and as well as backing up.

  • I receive a U44M1P7 error when installing Adobe CSXS Infrastructure 4.0

Particularly annoying in that ALL FIVE installs failed, and Adobe's lovely solution based on the error code (u44m1p7) is to uninstall and reinstall. Or check the arcane logs that don't tell a real story. How about this idea? TELL THE ENGINEERS NOT TO RELASE THIS STUFF UNTIL IT'S READY FOR PRIME TIME. Thanks. I'm clearly NOT the only one with this issue. AND we don't even know what the added benefit is for this kind of pain. I'm very happy for updates...but to click on all five and they all fail, and we then read that others have the same problem...please do better than that. Thanks.

This might (or might NOT) be fun. Opened log, converted to .csv, filtered errors using Excel. Went into WordPad to correct errors in the errors. Here's the result:

Jeff, I understand you're just trying to help and please understand that my POISONOUS ANGER is in no way directed at you but at someone in the company you work for who caused this problem for me. Thus, from here on out the pronoun "you" refers interchangeably to "Adobe" or "The incompetent engineer (and I use the term loosely) that allowed this dog dirt to be released into my computer"  The problem is clearly NOT with any of my apps but with the infrastructure that you place on my computer to have it all run (thus "common files"). So the advice to uninstall and reinstall is despicable. Rather, YOU fix the garbage in these programs that clearly don't benefit US the users but YOU the company, probably in keeping tabs on my license and right to use CC, which I pay for. I do NOT pay to have that underlying software break and then have to do YOUR work to fix it. Thanks for your ear.

  • Servermgrd crashes with EXC_BAD_ACCESS. Ideas?

I just realized that I'd posted this in an inappropriate thread (as a question in answer to a question), so I'll repost it here in hopes of getting input.
This problem has occurred after having suffered a boot disk failure and having performed a clean ground-up reinstall of 10.4.11 (10.4 DVD, followed by the Combo Updater directly to 10.4.11, on a dual 2GHz G5 with 8Gb of main memory and 1x500Gb and 1x750Gb disks). Servermgrd crashes immediately at startup, with an EXCBADACCESS error. The following log file entries will illustrate the problem. Note: I'm aware that they are not all from the same crash, but the content is reproducible from crash to crash.
    From system.log:

The latter log file is very disappointing, as it contains nothing of any value about the crash or the operation in process at the time.
Interestingly, the following posting to the mailing list ( http://lists.apple.com/archives/macos-x-server/2007/jun/msg00432.html ) is not from me. But the person's log files contain similar information to mine, and the debug information when attempting to start "servermgrd -d" from the terminal is the same. However, this person had problems with their DNS setup, whereas I do not (as shown by the "synchronized" entry in the system log, and the following output):
    (root@thrale)78 html> changeip -checkhostname
    Primary address = 192.168.168.10
    Current HostName = thrale.ises-llc.com
    DNS HostName = thrale.ises-llc.com
The names match. There is nothing to change.
I followed the advice given in the later postings to the mailing list thread, up to and including replacing all the files associated with the servermgrd bundles in /System/Library/CoreServices and /usr/share with the versions from my other (working!) 10.4.11 server installation, to no avail. I hasve also cleaned out all the servermgrd locks, thinking that somehow one of them was hanging the process, all to no avail. Permissions have also been repaired multiple times. This clearly must be a problem with some input file somewhere- but there's no obvious way to bump up the debug level to get more verbose or informative output from servermgrd prior to the crash.
Any ideas? Since this is happening on a clean reinstall just a couple of days old (and was not happening prior to the reinstall), I'm not too inclined to reinstall yet again in the hopes of somehow fixing it...

Doing yet another complete reinstall from scorched earth fixed the problem, at the cost of another lost day. And, unfortunately, I have no idea why.
I have no idea why things appear to fall through the cracks during the installation process (or perhaps when applying the necessary updaters and security patches afterwards), but they do. One thing I'm getting very good at is reinstalling the OS. I've now pretty well optimized the machine for it, by moving everything possible that has to be customized off onto a non-root volume... So, for anyone else who encounters this issue, my advice has to be "reinstall a couple of times until it goes away".

  • 10.6.8 - No Audio/Output Devices!!

I've had countless computer problems lately, but have traced the roots of these problems to the audio files.
My mac detects no output devices, and I have attempted all *simple* suggested solutions to fix that.  I still get a startup sound.  I do get sound through my USB headset, and have found that Skype DOES NOT work unless this headset is plugged in.  Skype will crash when the headset is not plugged in.
I also have an unusually slow boot-up time, and after running it in verbose mode, have found that it gets stuck on some AppleHDA.kext files, as well as some com.AppleAudio~~~ files.  The names disappear before I can write down the specifics.
Is there a way to find a solid set of completely new audio files and install those?  What should be present as far as Audio kext files and com.appleaudiowhatever files?  Anyone have any advice?  A clean reinstall of OS X did nothing.

From what I've read, an OS installation will not usually fix these problems.  I'm not super Mac savvy, so I wouldn't know why that is, but I know that an alteration of some files HAS been helpful for some people.  I just don't know enough to know what in specific to do.  I have found that some of my audio related kext files haven't been in the right place etc. (AFTER the reinstall), and given that information, maybe those aren't replaced during a reinstallation and that's why.
Anyway, I've done an SMC reset, PRAM reset, NVRAM reset, checked sound preferences, checked the Audio Midi Setup, plugged headphones in and out several times, opened Garageband, checked the System Profiler in which built-in audio input&output were listed, started from safe mode, used a root account, opened (booted from the OS X CD) Utility Disk and did all possible repairs, and followed all of the instructions listed here.  I found, however, as many people suggested:
"I deleted the Audio dir and created a new one as root in the terminal. Can do it like this:
    sudo mkdir /Library/Preferences/Audio
    then set permissions, er owner:
    sudo chown -R _coreaudiod:admin /Library/Preferences/Audio
Then change the input in the sound pref pane using an admin account. Should create the file."
I found that the "chown" command was always an illegal option.
Basically, I've determined that this isn't a logic board problem because the startup sound operates normally, and the System Profiler lists the audio devices.  I just need the computer to recognize/utilize/whatever the internal speakers&mic.
I go to college in a few days and am desperate to solve this.

  • How do I do a completely new Lion install?

I had a Macbook Pro for 5 years, just got a new one. Used Migration Assistant to bring everything over from the old one to the new one and I'm in place. I'm selling the old one so what I want to do is wipe it clean, get ALL my data files, songs, applications, photos, everything off it so that it just has a clean install of Lion (its current operating system) and nothing else.
I tried rebooting to cmd-R and reinstalling Lion, and it completed successfully but all my stuff is still there. It didn't give me any options to wipe the hard drive clean and then reinstall Lion, at least that I could see.
How do I do this? I'd really appreciate any advice, thanks.

Install or Reinstall Lion from Scratch
If possible backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive.
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Erase the hard drive:
Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion: Select Reinstall Lion and click on the Install button.
Note: You can also re-download the Lion installer by opening the App Store application. Hold down the OPTION key and click on the Purchases icon in the toolbar. You should now see an active Install button to the right of your Lion purchase entry. There are situations in which this will not work. For example, if you are already booted into the Lion you originally purchased with your Apple ID or if an instance of the Lion installer is located anywhere on your computer.
