Advice on Limiting

Hi Everyone,
Recently I did a film mix for an indy film which I scored (fortunately the director wanted the music up!). I'm not an engineer per se, though I'm good with EQ and setting levels. The mix came out good and the director and editor are happy. But... I'm of the mind that the mix needs to be compressed or limited or something, because there are some sections which are a little too loud overall, and others where the volume should probably come up.
I rarely use compressors or limiters because I have a very hard time deliberately squashing dynamics. But I think I have a case here where I need to treat the overall mix with one of those FX.
So I'm looking for some advice on how to approach this task, using only Logic plugs:
1. I'd like to make the overall level compatible with commercial DVD movie soundtracks (fx/dialog/music), and I'd like to know what's the peak level that I shouldn't exceed?
2. Maximize the volume (admittedly I don't understand how this works, but in the past I've seen engineers use a plug called Loudness Maximizer on tracks and it adds a certain amount of oomph)
3. Suggested approaches for setting up Logic's compressor or maybe AdLimiter (never used it before) across my 2-mix.
Many thanks!

good eeevvvvvening..........,(barrrump - da de-da-da dah-ta dah.)
first off, goto the sonalksis site and d/l there essentials collection.
30days, no hassles.
their compressor is very nice.
anyway, try this:
set logic's comp up as a leveller:
slow attack ~50ms,
slow-med release ~150ms- 500ms
ratio : 1.50:1 or less
deep threshold(-20 to -30) for -3 to 6 db GR.
knee: 0.5(~half way, more towards soft)
auto: off
clip: off, or soft. (soft will boost the level in the upper mids).
the GR meter should hardly move if set correctly.(not like with peak limiting.)
the attack and release settings have to be adjusted by ear for the program at hand.
you can get a nice bounce into things if the release times' not too long.
btw, check your mix's thru level by bypassing the comp.
i attempt to get my mix peaks at ~ -9db to -6db., and even lower -12, for soft pieces. (before the comp.)
i would test these settings by mixing out a bit of the program.
inspect this waveform and compare to an untreated example of same.
if working properly the sustained parts should have increased in level, but there should still be a very defined attack at the start of the waveform(like the original).
ok, next set up logic's AdLim after the comp.
feed it 0db(unity) from the comp if possible(don't feed it too much, it gets "fat" very quickly).
leave the AL input scale at 0db.
move the gain up (underneath it) until the out meters are reaching full scale on the louder peaks of the program.(if they don't hit the top, feed it more input.)
back off the "out ceiling" a little.
the goal is to have the program peaks in the 0 to -3db regions in the out meter, and definitely bouncing around. if they are static at the top you'll get a sonic brick.
also, the gain control will start to color the output if pushed.
and, the input meters should show a lower reading at anytime than the out meters.
the trick is to get the AL to do it's job without distorting in any way.
i mostly use the "opt fit" in the extra parameters drop down(with a 200ms delay.)
the compressor setting is critical for this to work, and it will take some fiddling between the two units to suit the program.
the sonalksis comp IS cleaner when pushed than logic's.
personally, i'd mix out an untreated version of your program and experiment on it, so you can easily compare the waveforms.

  • Sony Oxford Purchase Advice Needed - Limiter or Inflator?

    Hi
I would like to go for some sonnox plugins. I will buy 2, and save 20% in this bundle. I will go for the SuprEsser and the Limiter OR Inflator. And here´s my questions:
I used the Inflator in the past and loved it. I also used it on my bus in the mastering process.
I have no Limiter yet (only the W1 freeware plugin) which i use a bit. And the LiquidMix.
Would you go for the Inflator or the Limiter? Never tested the Limiter, but I think, I can use Inflator for more things.
Thanks for some ideas and thoughts

I'm more suprised why you'd pick the Superesser... But different strokes for different folks I guess.
My 2 fave Sonnox plugs are the Dynamics and Limiter. Dynamics is super flexible, with great gate, comp, limiting and 'warmth' features.
The Limiter is wonderfully transparent and effective, and I strap it on almost all of my master bus mixes. The secret weapon is the "Enhance" slider, which when used judiciously can really give some last minute polish and clarity to mixes. But ya gotta go easy with it.
The Inflator is nice, but for my music I only use it on the parallel drum bus most of the time. Obviously your needs and ears will be different.
Why not just demo all the plugs you're interested in and make your decision then?
If it were me, as I say, I'd start with the limiter and dynamics. But that's just me. I'm guessing your music is different than mine. Coz if it's not, well that'd just be downright weird, wouldn't it?
Better yet, buy 3 Sonnox plugs, or one of the bigger bundles . You know you'll want them all eventually... I've got the EQ, Limiter, Inflator, Transmod, Dynamics, and Reverb. All great. The only one I DONT' have, you'll notice, is the Superesser... I've got the Waves and UAD variants, and they do the trick just fine for me...
But different sonnox strokes for different sonnox folks...

  • Legitimate Windows purchase: install limits?

I have had to go through a few MBP's and am now on a MBA in the last 5 weeks. I have had to call MS for approval twice for the install authorization #'s lately.
If I have to exchange my MBA (battery issue) and re-install windows AGAIN, will I be ok?
I am the buyer, with receipt. It is only on the computer that I own (at that moment).
    Any advice on limits?

Might be best to ask Microsoft for a definitive answer.
If it is a standard retail version of Windows then there are no limits on the assumption you remove it from the previous machine.
As you have found out that you need to call MS for approval if you start to install it more than once on different machines.

  • Lock Box Reason Code.

    Hi Experts,
I am getting one issue in lock box, If Suppose customer has invoice of $ 1000, he is eligible for discount of $ 50 so he should pay net amount $ 950. But customer is paying full amount without knowing that he is eligible for discount i.e $ 1000. so system is crediting back $ 50 to the customer(returning back the $ 50 to customer).
In this case i want system should accept amount $1000 and system should not credit $ 50 to customer(system should not pay back to customer $ 50), instead of this system should transfer the balance to GL account by using the reason code.
Note : we are using BAI2 format for lockbox.
Please be advised what should i do in this case if i want to accept the full amount from the customer without doing the credit to him and i want to transfer the amount to GL account by using reason code in BAI2 format.
    Regards,
    Sam.

    Yes you can.
Customer and User tolerance limits, payment advice tolerance limits and reason codes
When an incoming cash payment does not exactly pay the referenced open item(s), then the system will not be able to perform clearing without creating residual items back on the account - except when you establish tolerance limits to allow posting with a write-off of acceptable payment difference amounts.
Reason code settings are used for description and reporting purposes, generation of specific customer correspondence letters (automatic system generation whenever this reason code is assigned to a document), and difference item write-off/dispute status assignment.

  • Lock box autocash -write offs

We are using Lockbox autocash process.
The process is for autocash to write off discounts less than $25.
This is working fine if the amount is a debit, however if the amount is a credit autocash
is setting the amount back on the customer account.
please tell me how to confiure that the amount shouldnt go back to customer account.

It is not compatible with Windows 7.  Advice could include telling you to purchase the latest version.  The other option would be to buy an old computer that is capable of running it.

  • Glassfish advice and its limitations

    Hi all,
First of all i am new with glassfish and my knowledge about it is that i know how to import lib and deploy application. Recently Oracle put adf essential, it is free for distribution and it can run on glassfish.
We have application which is created as two layer application. DB is 11g Oracle and C# is used for GUI. Now we want to move on three layer application build in Oracle adf. We do not have budget for web logic so we want use glassfish. Now we have 1000 customers who use this application every day. My question is can glassfish support this number of users who attacks application and DB transactions constantly?
Than you for your time, all best.

You're better off with 2x2GB, you may decide to run a 64-bit OS someday...and you will notice a difference between 2GB and 3GB when running a 32-bit OS.

  • I was given some advice here to restore my macbook OS that was having a glitch I now realize was nothing, by sliding in the original OSX disk at start up and holding the C key down?

So now my problem is herindous, my mac is crashed and it says I need to click repair disk if repair fails back up and erase the disc?
I have limited access to anything and would like to know how to back it up if possible, I have bought a 500G seagate, but nothing seems to be working
I have the snow leopard disc in it and it is open with Disc Utility, the repair disc did not work so I need to back up and erase, BUT HOW?
Please any one with some competence as far as knowing what they are talking about so I can get off this DELL Windows laptop, It's miserable!
Please good reliable advice needed with step by step blows for recovery, I have the MAC OS X Installer  open showing both the Macintosh HD and the FreeAge Drive side by side,
Can I just load the Snow Leopard on the Freeagent and operate my computer like that to get by?
    HELP PLEASE?
Sound confusing, I have been at it over 18 hours now with all involved and pulling my hair out!
Sincerely grateful for some reliable advice from a mac expert!

Me again, I am not rushing here for the obvious reasons, I dont expect to hear from you tonight (so late) hopefully 2marrow.
Thinking closer about the way you worded it I dont think I actually booted of the disk, rather just able to access (Mac OS X Installer) that further allows me to access through clicking on (Utilities),
(Disc Utility). With it open to begin the (Erase) of the free agent drive,
I click on (erase) and the options open to be chosen of Format:
included in those options I don't have what you listed for me to choose, the available options are:
    Mac OS Extended (journaled)
    Mac OS Extended
    Mac OS Extended (Case-sensitave,journaled)
    Mac OS Extended (Case-sensitave)
    MS-DOS (FAT)
And under that is a space for Name: and it could be anything of my choise it by default automatically put in (FREEAGENT G)
fURTHER DOWN AVAILABLE OPTIONS TO CLICK ON ARE
Securiety Options: That compile 4 ranging from Don't Erase Data / to a 35-Pass Zero Out Data
And finally the slightly smaller space available for me to click on that says (ERASE....) and it starts the scrub I figure.
Now that would be the first part of two I would need to complete to hopefully get off this Dell from Windows Haties!
Step 2) It would be nice if I could just drag the Mac OS x install DVD to the FreeAgent and it would load it, and maybe it's possible?? I know everything about nothing! Famously.
But the next possible options back in (DISC Utility) when I am clicked on (The install DVD) are first aid,   erase,   and  Restore
Then other options open to click on depending on what is chosen?
I am sorry to be so handy cap needy, with my long history of (if there is anything worse that can happen it will happen to me) as it does and I have to accept the fact It can always be worse! I know yah it could, but then all mighty God would no longer have me the human hamster to bowel and toss around, and would get bored.
***************So I guess the first Mystery here is where's the (GUID) PARTITION option?*************************
Ihave found an option under (RAID) that makes more available striped, Mirriored, and Concentrated (RAID Types)
With (Format:) options the same as I listed above
I do understand if your too busy and unable to get back as well,

  • After a Lion clean install, how do I retrieve my data from external back-up? Following Apple advice for use of Migration Assistant did not work creating similar issues leading to clean install.

After a Lion clean install, how do I retrieve my data from external hard drive?
Following Apple advice I used Migration Assistant which crashed new system twice which is why I had to clean install Lion in the first place.
Is there a sure way of doing it?
I have only a few programs that I will have to install myself and that should not be a problem.
I just want my data, music and photos back where I can use them.

Time machine backups. I went to migration assistant a few hours ago and limited my selection to "users", no need for applications, settings and other files.  Stuff started moving over at a fast pace but has now seemed to stall.
I will let it run overnight as there are lots of songs and photos as well as a few movies.
If that does not work, then I will go into TM and try restore. I have restored some things in the past such a mail files and it has worked well.
The Apple fellow at the store told me to go right into TM, he may have had a point. I'll get it eventually.

  • Never owned a Mac, thinking of buying a Mac Pro, could use some advice...

    Hey guys,
I know this was a lot to read, but I sincerely hope someone will take the time to answer my questions:
As the title of my post implies I've never owned a Mac in my life. I've always built my own desktops and usually gone to HP or Dell for my laptops. I'm approaching that time again where my custom-built desktop is looking outdated and I'm getting the upgrade itch. I'm looking at all the parts I need to order to build a computer and I can't help but think I'm older now with a full-time job and a one year old daughter in the house. Do I really want to go through the hassle of building a desktop from scratch again? Not really. So I started evaluating things a bit. As I get older I’m really just getting sick and tired of Microsoft’s antics (Vista was a huge disappointment for me) so I decided this could be the year for me to take the Mac plunge.
Now I’m an IT guy, so I have a pretty atypical setup at home. I’m currently running both Windows and Linux on all my computers. Rather than dual boot or use virtualization software I have a pretty intricate system in which I use a product called Acronis Trueimage to experiment with operating systems. What I do is perform a a clean install on an operating system, tweak it as needed for security and to use resources on my LAN than back up the customized OS install to a server a an image file. I have pre-built images for XP, Vista, Ubuntu and OpenSuSE that I can roll out to one of my machines in an average of 15 minutes whenever I get the urge to switch operating systems. I also serve all my data off a NAS box, so since data and OS are kept separate on the network I don’t have to worry about erasing something when I swap between Linux and Windows (as loading an image literally destroys the previous OS install).
So you can see I’m pretty highly specialized. I even have things down to the point to where I have custom images for specific purposes. For instance I have one XP image customized for development, one XP image customized for gaming, etc. Naturally if I got the Mac Pro I’d like to have the freedom to create a similar set of custom OS deployment images (Windows, Linux and OSX) for it as well. In researching the Mac Pro I have some concerns my current system might not work if I go that route. Am I correct in assuming that in order to run an alternative operating system on a Mac I’ll have to run boot camp or something like it? Or upon unboxing my Mac and tweaking Leopard will I be able to use disk imaging software to make a backup image of my preinstalled Leopard hard drive and then do a clean install of Windows XP or Ubuntu and set it up to function like a PC? I guess I’m asking if it’s possible (now that Macs are Intel-based) to run Windows or Linux exclusively on the Mac hardware?
Also I have some concerns about the proprietary nature of the Mac platform. From what I can gather in my research it seems the hardware is pretty locked in. One area that has me really concerned is gaming. I pretty much use Ubuntu exclusively at home for productivity and web surfing. However I still like to load that XP image every now and then to play some games on the LAN with my buddies. I’m not a fan of virtualizing for gaming because of the obvious performance hit you take, so I’d have to be able to run Windows XP free and clear. Also I checked Nvidia’s site and I see no OSX drivers listed there for their cards. Under the Windows platform they are always releasing driver updates to squeeze more game performance out of your card. What if I want to upgrade my video card? How do drivers work on OSX? Does Apple just integrate drivers for just a few specific video cards into the OS? Will I be stuck only able to pick from a handful of video cards approved by Apple?
Thanks in advance to anyone who can offer advice!

    Hi Zeus
I may be able to answer some of your questions. And sorry in advance if this sounds like yet another of those "religious conversion" stories
I'm a software developer/architect, mostly doing Microsoft .NET/C#/Web Services coding. I'd been a loyal Microsoft guy since I started on the original IBM PC back in the 80's. Like a lot of people (or so it seems) I just got fed up with Microsoft's high-handed and self-important ways. More importantly, the company always seemed to be lagging behind technically. Looking at beta versions of Vista did not bode well for the future - it just seemed awful. When Vista came out it it was the last straw - I just could not get enthusiastic about this bloated, slow, mess of an operating system. I really hated it. Still do. Even with a top-spec machine, Vista didn't run in the snappy, responsive way it I thought it should. Nothing seemed well thought out.. yuck!
Then, by chance, I was staying for a few days with somebody who had a Mac. Now, for years and years I not even considered Macs as remotely serious machines. My only experience of them was in the late 80's when somebody at work had one. He took delight in pushing a floppy disc into the machine so that it would respond "Ah, it's so big!". Great, just a toy. Not for serious programming work. So, encountering Mac OS X Tiger on my friend's iMac was something of a shock. It was so responsive, clean and elegant. When you turned it on it only took about 30 seconds or so for the thing to be ready for use, etc, etc.
Long story short, I bought an iMac, then a newer, bigger, faster iMac, then a MacBook Pro and now I have a Mac Pro. I still have to work with Windows to do my .NET-related day job. But 95% of the time I work on the Mac using various VMWare virtual machines. I can switch between Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP in a few seconds and still be working in a Mac environment. And the performance of running Windows inside VMWare is even better than on my dedicated top-spec Windows laptop! I have a selection of virtual machines to choose from and, because these virtual machines are just files, I can back them up, revert to saved copies, etc. I've tried Bootcamp but it's much less convenient and performance inside the virtual machines is never an issue (although I don't do any gaming). So, you could keep virtual machines on your NAS box or local Mac hard drive.
With regard to graphics drives, etc. I've never had any problems whatever in this respect. For example, when I installed Windows XP on VMWare it automatically recognised all my hardware (including some obscure audio interfaces, USB-based MIDI interfaces, etc.) and made it available. I must admit that when I was new to the Mac I expected to have driver issues, but never have had... So, my guess is that you'll be able to run all your Windows and Linux distros on the Mac without too many problems.
You mention Apple's hardware as being "locked-in". I don't think that's the case. Certainly the consumer Mac models like the iMac can't be upgraded (by you or me) internally, expect for memory. The Mac Pro though is very easy to upgrade - though there may be some limitations with regard graphics cards.
Re your questions about graphics card drivers. Yes, these come with OS X in just the same as as with Windows. Because I've also used the card that comes "with the box" this has not been an issue for me. However, unless you get a Mac Pro you can't swap-in your existing graphics card. And even then I think you may find restrictions. However, other, more knowledgeable Mac users on this forum may have other thoughts.
Overall though, the experience of using the Mac in terms of software is very much the reverse of Windows - the OS is very open and well documented. It really is an IT person's dream machine - so much to fiddle around with (particularly if you know anything about Unix!). Unlike Microsoft who charge a FORTUNE for their development tools, Apple give them to you for free. And very good they are too!
Finally, one bit of advice. If you are considering buying a new Mac, join the Apple Developer Connection scheme as a Select member. It'll cost you around $400 to join but they give you a hardware discount for Apple-store purchased items that will save you a ton of $$$'s - absolutely definitely worth doing.
Hope this helps (and good luck)!

  • Limitation on source group with services using ip address range

    Hello,
I have an interface on CSS which I regard as public and another interface I regard as private. On the private interface is a server farm with private ip addresses. Since the server admin guys insisted the servers need to access internet just for Windows Update, I made a source group to NAT the private addresses to public addresses to allow the servers to access internet.
I defined services for use by the source group. Since keepalive is not important in this case, I set keepalive none to ,I hope so, save system resources.
    I have server 192.168.1.1-5 (5 servers) and 192.168.1.11-14 (4 servers), so I made a service with ip address 192.168.1.1 range 5 and another service 192.168.1.11 range 4.
But then I found that the two services cannot be put in the same source group. It is because of the different range in the service definition.
I can get it work if I define services with single ip address, but then I will have a long configuration with repetative information. And I think this may be using more system resources.
I can also get it work if I include 192.168.11.15 and define two services both with a range of 5 ip addresses. But 192.168.11.15 is not actually there.
Why is there such a limitation on source group, or services with ip address range? Is there the same limitation for content rules? Or am I getting it all wrong and should do the configuration in other ways?
    Advices will be welcomed.
    CT Yau
    Hong Kong

Yes you are correct. There is a limitation while adding services into source groups.
You can create as many services that share an ip range (eg. a /24 subnet range). But the trouble starts when you add them into source groups. You can not add them into a source group NOR you can add them under different source groups as well.
You mentioned that you can use single ip adress instead of range for the services...but it is not true as you will be stuck when you add them into source groups.
I can think of these following options in your case.
    Option 1
Change the ip range on the servers. Use 2 different IP ranges one for those 5 servers and another for those 4 servers.
Create 2 services for each range.
Create 2 groups and add the services.
    service server-out-192.168.1.1-5
    ip address 192.168.1.1 range 5
    active
    service server-out-172.168.1.11-14
    ip address 192.168.1.11 range 4
    active
    group server-out-192.168.1.11-14
    vip address x.x.x.1
    add server-out-192.168.1.1-5
    active
    group server-out-172.168.1.11-14
    vip address x.x.x.2
    add server-out-172.168.1.11-14
    active
    Option 2
Create a service that includes all the ip addresses starting from 192.168.1.1 through .14 using the range keyword.
Now you need to create one source group with a VIP. Add the service to the source group.
If you do not want to cover the unassigned ip addresses just move them up and use consecutive ones.
    service server-out-192.168.1.1-14
    ip address 192.168.1.1 range 14

  • Limitation on SQL executing select statement from ADO and Oracle 8.1.7.1 OleDB Driver

    Hi,
we are running a query with a big dunamic select statement from VB code using ADO command object. When Execute method is called system hangs and control won't return back to the application. it seems to be that there is some type limitation on Query string length. Please tell us if there is any?
we are running Oracle 8.1.7 Server on Windows 200 Server and connecting from a W2K professional, ADO 2.6 and Oracle OLEDB 8.1.7.1 OLEDB Driver.
    Sample code:
    Dim rs As ADODB.Recordset
    Dim cmd As ADODB.Command
    Set cmd = New Command
    With cmd
.CommandText = ' some text with more than 2500 characters
    .CommandType = adCmdText
    Set rs = .Execute
    End With
when i debug using VB6 and when .Execute line is called system hangs or return a message method <<somemethod> of <<some class name>> failed error.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Anil

A stored procedure would only slow you down here if it was poorly written. I suspect you want to use the translate function. I'm cutting & pasting examples from the documentation-- a search at tahiti.oracle.com will give you all the info you'll need.
    Examples
The following statement translates a license number. All letters 'ABC...Z' are translated to 'X' and all digits '012 . . . 9' are translated to '9':
    SELECT TRANSLATE('2KRW229',
    '0123456789ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ',
    '9999999999XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX') "License"
    FROM DUAL;
    License
    9XXX999
The following statement returns a license number with the characters removed and the digits remaining:
    SELECT TRANSLATE('2KRW229',
    '0123456789ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ', '0123456789')
    "Translate example"
    FROM DUAL;
    Translate example
    2229
Also, LIKE '%<string>%' is going to be rather expensive simply because it has to compare the entire string and because it forces full table scans, rather than using indexes. You could speed this sort of query up by using interMedia Text (Oracle Text now in 9i). If you can eliminate one of the '%' options, you could also improve things.
My guess is that your stored procedure is inefficient and that's causing the problem-- 5k rows per table should be pretty trivial.
If you post your query over on the PL/SQL forum, there are better performance tuners than I that might have more hints for you. To get really good advice, though, you'lllikely have to get at least the execution plan for this statement and may need to do some profiling to identify the problem areas.

  • New Airport N network limited to 3.7mb/s - slow N performance

I recently purchased a new airport extreme and express to replace my older G equipment.
I have the extreme connected to my dsl internet and a few computers. The express is in a different room and is in wireless-bridge mode with a computer connected to it. So basically, I've got two rooms pretty far apart that I didn't want to run an ethernet cable between, so the express is acting as my internet bridge.
The extreme and express are the only wireless networking devices used and they are set to 802.11n only, 5ghz.
When I transfer a file between a computer connected to the extreme and a computer connected to the express, I get an average of 3.7mb/s (Wireless N should provide around 8-11mb/s).
    I've tried the following things:
    - I've transferred files through ethernet between the same computers (obtained 50mb/s)
    - Had the express in the same room as the extreme and still got 3.7mb/s
    - tried 2.4 ghz mode, g mode, robust networking on/off, wide channels on/off, security off, NAT off (on the extreme), and still got a max of only 3.7mb/s.
Either there's a setting I'm not seeing, or I'm starting to think that the WAN port of the express is limited to 3.7mb/s as it was primarily meant to be connected to an internet connection rather than a computer.
Anyone have any advice, or do you have a similar setup where you are getting more than 3.7mb/s between an express and an extreme?

This has been broken for a long time, I think. I have a similar setup, with two Airport Extremes (802.11n Fast Ethernet) each running 5GHz only on wide channels, one wired to the broadband and my network storage, the other wired to various bits of my entertainment system including a Mac Mini. They are only about 4 metres apart though there are some walls in between and for various reasons it's not practical to run cable without a lot of fuss.
I am using Airport firmware 7.1.1 and getting 9-10MB/sec between the two, which is great. I'm still using the old firmware because every update since then has dropped the network speed to the magic 3.7MB/sec.
When the Gigabit version of the AEBS came out I bought two to replace the old ones. The Gigabit removes one of the internal limitations of the Fast Ethernet, meaning that streaming from a single AEBS to say a Macbook is a bit faster, up to 12MB/sec over the same distance. But it has no effect on AEBS to AEBS transfers, which are still limited to around 3.7MB/sec.
Of course, the Gigabit AEBSs can't be downgraded to 7.1.1, so I sent them back to Apple. Luckily I'd kept the old Fast Ethernet versions, which are getting pretty old now but are still twice as fast as the newest hardware running the latest firmware.
I don't know what Apple have done to limit AEBS to AEBS speeds like that. It must be a firmware issue starting with 7.2. Maybe it was to improve reliability or something, but I'd rather have speed or at least the option.
If anyone has managed to get decent speeds between two AEBSs I'd love to hear about it, I'm pretty sure I've tried all the configurable options to no avail.
