Advice on Logic's de-esser
Hi Guys,
I recently released a 12" vinyl single which sounded spot on mastered and before pressing, but once on vinyl a horrible sibilance appeared on all 'S' sounds, like a "Th" instead of "S", distorted to boot. Since then, I have experimented a lot with the de-esser but all settings I have played with have made the singer 'lisp'. Can anyone offer any advice on how to approach this the next time? The frequency makeup of the mix was lovely before pressing!
Any advice much appreciated!
Ben, Brazil
This may not help you now, but I wouldn't change anything next time around in terms of your EQing or mixing - Except ... the mastering engineer. I would definately get a new mastering guy.
Can you have him remaster the single?
Regardless of the format you mixed to - If your mix sounded good, a mastering engineer is supposed to know how to reproduce that good mix on the format he is mastering to. That is his primary task. If anything, your mastered version should sound better.

Urgent advice on Logics Time & Pitch
This will sound like a crazy idea - but here goes... I have a track coming out soon and in discussing this with the radio pluggers they have asked if I could look at speeding up the track by 3 or 4 bpm to give it a better chance of playlisting.
So.... I spoke to my mastering engineer at Abbey Road who uses Sadie for Mastering.. Unfortunately his mastering room at Abbey road is being refitted this week so he suggested taking the Master and just speed it up in Logic. He says he is able to do this in Sadie without artifacts...
I have done a couple of tests in Logic but nothing I am happy with.
I can go back to the original project file and systematically go through the project but wondered if any of you pro's had any experience with this and if so what tips you would give
Cheers
IvanDon't try to change pitch and time independently as this is what causes the artifacts. Just resample the file with the proper ratio to give you the desired speedup and accept a change of tuning. It will sound odd to your ears first, but it will work fine for everybody else.
Even the best time stretching algorithms (i.e. leaving pitch unchanged while changing the tempo) introduce one or another kind of artifacts and are always a compromise.
To use logic's time and pitch machine for resampling just link pitch and time.
Good luck,

Advice for logical workflow for color correcting and color grading
I am an experienced user of PPRO CS5. I am a novice with color correcting and color grading. I am also just barely competant in AE CS5. It has been suggested that I use AE for color correcting my footage. Can you advise me as to the most logical workflow for doing this in coordination with PPRO CS5? Are there some tutorials that you recommend? I subscribe to Lynda.com and I think that they have some great tutorials, I am unsure as to where to begin looking and what to search for.
Thanks so much,

You can do it that way, sure. But you don't have to. You can accomplish quite a lot without leaving PPro. This has two major advantages. First, if you aren't using AE for anything else, it gets you out of using AE at all, so gets you out of climbing another set of learning curves.
Second, even if you are using AE for other things (I use AE to make motion lower thirds, for example), doing the work in PPro can improve exporting speeds. This is because AE gets restricted to a single processor core in some workflows as discussed in this thread and others (search around if you're interested). This can make exporting take 3x as long or longer, depending on how much footage has to be processed by AE.
So, how to do color correction without leaving PPro? Use either a luma corrector or luma curve effect to set black and white points, and contrast (use a waveform monitor to help). Then use a three way color corrector effect to get rid of any residual color casts (use the vectorscope to help, and the RGB parade, etc.).
If you find you have specific colors that need to be fixed, you can apply another three way color correction effect and use it to make that secondary color correction (for example I find the blue dyes used in many labels tend to fluoresce under fluorescent lighting, and has to be desaturated with a secondary color correction or it "blooms" on an HDTV -- IOW, it has to be made "broadcast safe").
If you want tutorials for using these tools, the ones on Creative Cow by Andrew Devis are quite good, and free. The ones on color correction with PPro cs6 start at tutorial number 47. There's a bunch of them. All good.
Finally, get a copy of Van Hurkman's Color Correction Handbook. May be the best technical book I've ever read, and it'll certainly point you in the right direction for doing color correction work regardless of which tools you use to do it. -
Need advice on logic board replacement
Hi,
My MacBook Pro has the whining on AC, but not too loud. It is a week 27 build, there is no heating problem nor other problems. I don't know, if it is a good idea to send it for repair. Because:
1. I always use bluetooth mighty mouse, which eliminate the whine completely...
2. Absolutely no whine on Windows XP under boot camp, even bluetooth desabled
3. I will leave United States at September, so no much time left
4. This replacement can cause more problems, scratches, as it will be opened up completely!
5. Maybe the whine will be worse, or will appear on battery also
I don't know what to do... Any suggestions? I am in Washington DC right now, do you have an idea about the repair times? And, the results are good??
Thanks a lot...I sent mine in before I left on a 4 day trip to the river where I wouldn't need it. They said expect a week, and it was back the day before I was. I don't think this is completely standard, but the same happened with my friend. I got it back in excellent condition, and this is finally the macbook pro that I paid for (whine free, lower heat). My whine was really audible on ac though. If yours isn't, and it doesn't annoy you like it did me then you might not want to do it.

Is logic pro 9.1.8 stable with OSX 10.7?
I run Logic pro 9.1.8 with OSX 10.6.8 on an external hard drive and it runs smooth as anything. Very stable, never misses a beat.
The reason i have an external as my boot drive is because I updated my internal drive from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion, and had continuous issues with stability when using logic. It would randomly crash, get stuck on loop with no response at all, crash when using certain 3rd party audio components, the list goes on.
So once i'd had enough I decided to get an external and start over.
I have native instruments komplete 8, and am wanting to upgrade to komplete 9, but alas, the update to Komplete 9 is not compatible with anything prior to OSX 10.7 (********).
So after a few weeks of researching and procrastinating, im still undecided as whether to update to OSX 10.7.
I don't know if it is stable with logic 9.1.8 because when i previously updated, i went straight from Snow leopard to mountain lion.
Soooo if anyone out there can help me out with any advice regarding logic 9.1.8 stability with OSX 10.7, that would be awesomeIt should be:

Hi,
I am looking to remotely deploy Logic studio (including additional content). We have Mac OS-X server running with PackageMaker and Apple Remote Desktop 3.5. I have managed to make a package to deploy the standard package for Logic Studio, but I am unsure how to create a package to include the additional content and also pre-fill the licence key. Does anyone have a guide which may be of use? I am relatively new to macs, especially the server side, and could do with some advice. the logical process seems quite different to the before and after snap shots used with msi creation.
Regards,
SiThe standard packages are not the problem (well, meaning: it is technically possible to deploy them), but the serial number is stored in a machine specific. You need a Logic Studio Volume License for deployment to several machines.

I am new in the stuff, so I would be grateful for your advice.
Logic Express doesn‘t react after doing anything - f.ex. changing the location of a piece of audio or MIDI file - the song does not play. It only works after beeing started.
The problem occured suddenly. Before that, it was fine.
There are 13 tracks now, this cant be too much, i guess.
Thanks for your help!I'm having this same problem in Logic Express 8 with the Blue Snowball USB Mic... and I saw that many people recommended combining your audio interfaces into an aggregate device, the steps for doing which are found here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1215 , but that didn't solve my problem.

Soooo if anyone out there can help me out with any advice regarding logic 9.1.8 stability with OSX 10.7, that would be awesomeLP 9.1.8 tends to be less stable with Lion compared to ML so i would stick with the original combo of 10.6.8 and 9.1.8 if i were you... though of course that may prevent you updating to Komplete 9 though according to several forum posts, Komplete 9 will run under 10.6.8 without issue even though it is not officially supported...
http://www.gearslutz.com/board/music-computers/851152-komplete-9-anyone-using-os x-10-6-8-a.html
If you are upgrading from an earlier version you shouldn't have an issue but if you try and install Komplete 9 from scratch, the installer will not allow you to do so under 10.6.8 it seems..
However, back to your original question... it depends on what is causing the instability in the first place as I ran 9.1.8 under ML without issue here.... though imho, the most stable combination of LP9 and OS X is, for me at least, 9.1.5 and 10.6.8
Usually such instability is caused by driver problems with OS X rather than LP itself.. but some people suffered from graphic lag running under Lion and ML so again, it depends on what sort of instability you are refering to as to what may or may not be best for you. -
Hi all:
I was hoping for some basic mastering advice using Logic Pro inclusive plug-ins. Knowing that mastering is its own HUUUGE animal, I am simply looking to establish some basics to help make my song standout a bit more.
Basically my plan was to bounce my track down to 24bit split and put it into a new clean session. I was planning to start first with the multipressor then EQ then fininsh with the limiter.
-Is this chain ok or should the EQ be before the multipressor?
-Should I use the Linear phase EQ opposed to the channel EQ due to the manuals stated high quality, more intensive cpu characteristics? Im assuming this all means it’s a better EQ...
-For basic EQ, I was planning to simply roll off below 50Hz, cut some at 400 Hz to remove any muddiness, and slightly boost above 10KHz for some brightness. Shoud I use multiple LP EQ's doing these separate? Im a bit concerned about delay compensation and artefacts.
-Should I use the regular or adaptive limiter or both?
-The manual states that Tracks "normalized" to 0dB will sound 2 dB louder with adaptive limiting. Where in Logic do you go about "normalizing"? Is it possible to normalize the entire 24 bit split files or should I have normalized each separate track (how does this affect instrument tracks?) as I produced the song?
I know theres a lot to ask here so if anyone would like to answer one or two based on their expertise I would appreciate it very much.
Thank youWhoa dude... I'm on your side!
If you think you're being scolded for wanting to use plug-ins, please re-read it. No one is chiding you for using plug-ins (I use them when the song dictates). The question was, how do you know you need them? If it's because you read it in a book, or a course, then read Bob Katz's Mastering Audio (I believe that someone already suggested it as well), and he'll give you some reasons why you don't need them.
Regardless of whether a mix is really bad or good, mastering includes some level of final compression, EQ, and limiting...right or Wrong?
Right, if you believe that it will help your track sit well with the rest of your tracks on a CD.
Wrong, if you believe that it will make a bad mix sound good. Also wrong if you believe that plug-ins are a magic bullet that will all of a sudden turn any mix into a hit or give it the "professional touch".
Note carefully that this is based on the operative word: includes.
Like John stated, if you get it right in the mix, then the less you need plug-ins. Treating the sounds with EQ & compression is a part of mixing. Again, that is if it requires it as well. Helping them find their place in a mix is another part. There are also other little things that can only be done in a mix. If that certain something is not in the mix, no amount of mastering will put it there. No doubt, you have invested a lot of time in your mix. Does it pull you in? Does it make you want to shout "YEAH!"? Does it make you move? If any of these are a 'no', then revisit the mix (take a few days away from it completely, if necessary).
You're mentioning EQ and Compression as part of mastering. However, did you use any mix bus compression when mixing down? As well, did you apply any EQ on the output of your mix? For all you know, that may be all your mix needs.
By no means can I afford to go a mastering engineer either (almost all of the artists I produce/record out of our church have very little means as it is), which leave me doing the task. However, each song is different. Some require a bit of limiting; some require nothing; others require compression, EQ, limiting and possibly some harmonic exciters and reverb. However, it is to make everything sit together so that the listener can go through the entire CD without thinking something is amiss. If you were to pick any two songs off any of the CD's I've done, it's almost guaranteed that the processes were different on them. I can give you a process I use, but that would only apply to a certain song (thus, you'd have to hear the song as well).
Don't think you're being torn down for asking. Far from it. We both want the same thing: something that sounds professional.

G5 Dual 2.0 Ghz PPC logic board died, ideas?
Dear all,
Hi there, I have seen a few other posts related to this, but figured I would ask for any info on my situation & sad story in these tighter economic times.
I have: Mac G5 Tower, PPC 2.0 Ghz (late 2004)
It has run fine for me since i bought it, not a single issue or problem. Obviously, it is out of warranty & apple care, and in fact, Apple will cease supporting this model in Oct '09.
The computer fails to boot up, brought to Apple Store & was told "logic board AND processor need to be replaced". Cost to replace 764 (logic board) +764 (processor) +135 (labor) = a lot of money for an older machine!
Personally, I did not believe this... i have burned logic boards before, but never a processor. I asked them if i could attempt to just replace the logic board, if that worked, just pay for that... if not, have the part returned (restocking fee only).
In my area, there is an independent mac store, that offered a quote of 570 (logic board)+ 100 labor. This is still a high price for an older machine. The indy shop is still a lot.... my same computer sells on ebay used for roughly the same price as the indy repair.
As I know what is specifically is wrong, has anyone had any experiences buying parts like logic boards online? I see some listed on ebay for like $240.
Does anyone have any advice on how to proceed with this? Certainly, buying the cheap used parts can be dangerous... or not solve the problem, or whatever...
In the present economy, I hope to get a bit more 'life' out of my G5 before replacing it... but really I dont think it is worth paying more than $300ish under the circumstances.
Let me know if anyone has any advice, etcSudden Logic Board Failure(LBF Syndrome) is a pandemic everywhere you read the boards. The G5 processors or logic boards or power supplies were really terrible on these machines.
If you want to escalate, you have to DEMAND that you speak to a higher tech manager. Apparently, they will pay for it all if you raise Cain. I'm a fan of Mac products, and my g4 laptop 17" is the best darn thing I ever bought I think.
-Software upgrades with Power management fixes nuked my g5 the first round
-Everytime I unplugged the machine and took it to the AppleStore the PMU reset and the machine behaved better
-I took it in 3 times, they could not diagnose the issue
-After a week, the machine would never boot without the option key
-After living with the option key, the machine would have spontaneous shutdowns
-I cleaned the interior, and that was OK for a month or 2.
-The machine would have kernal panics after that
-then the UNIX code would spew on screen
-then it wouldn't boot at all, even with OS CDs
-Gray apple only-then fans of glory would kick in.
So, what happened? I can only guess since Genius Bar didn't help me is:
-g5 chips ran so hot and energy management ate the Power Manager(they went to Intel because Power PC g5 would have set laptops on fire)
-Constant shutdowns thanks to Power Manager fragged the PMU. The UPS I bought helped for 6 months...sort of.
-The above ate the LOGIC board(bad PMUs do BAD things to Boards and RAM)
-Once the power manager starts getting irregular, the machine kernal panics because of cooling issues or RAM panics and eventually everything corrupts and the poor voltage management destroys the machine.
Mac techs blamed my house voltage, but the electrician tested it and it was fine. The PMU is supposed to smooth amps and volt spikes but it did such a bad job I suspect it shorted or blasted major components.
I'm getting a new Imac which has it's own problems-I don't think the g5 is worth saving but Apple should give a rebate or refund prorated for the years it was used. It's a very bad representative of Apple products and they should be ashamed that they hid or submerged the issue. I think so many software updates dealt with Power management(ie:energy saving) because Logic boards were blowing sky high exponentially. -

http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3968
Follow the instructions exactly, no more, no less.
The support article has a link to the Prokit you need to install. (after following the instructions).
If this doesn't help it's possible you have a corrupted project.
(Don't delete the "ProKit.framework" the support article mentions, just move it in case you need to move it back) -
Is Logic the right programme for me?
Hi.
Im seriously considering building my own home recording system. I just want to start simple with a programme and suitable microphones to capture voice, guitar and midi keyboard.
Just wanted some advice on Logic and if its the right programme for me? Would I get the hang of it easy and what microphone would you suggest?
I want to adapt my acoustic guitar playing and singing to an electronic set up which I hope to create with the recording program and use in a live setting. Would Logic be suitable for this also?
Sorry for all the question, im pretty new to the self recording process.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Marc.cramrevilo wrote:
Thanks for this. Very good advice. Should have mentioned that I have used Garage Band extensively for recording song ideas into the in built mic but nothing much more.
This doesn't count.
Seriously, FN's comment regarding Logic vs whatever being the least of your worries is exactly correct.
To get decent sound you are going to be looking at some hardware expenditure.
An "audio interface".
Your MBP's built-in audio will give you only fair sound and you will end up spending money on a mic/inst preamp that you can plug into the Mac's 3.5mm line-in.
You're better off purchasing an external audio interface, this will have mic/instrument inputs and can interface to the MBP via Firewire or USB. (Firewire is better imho)
Personally not fond of USB mics so I would recommend a standard condenser mic and cable. There are some decent models in the $100 range that sound good for both voice and acoustic guitar. The Audio-Technica AT2020 comes to mind.
There are a number of small inexpensive MIDI keyboard controllers that can do the job.
Point is, this hardware will work with any MIDI/Audio sequencer so before purchasing Logic I would take care of the hardware investment and learn the ropes using Garageband.
GB is very capable, it's built on a subset of Logic. Six months ago I used Garageband to cut a demo for an ad company, they liked it enough that all I needed to make were a few tweaks and add the voice over (all in Garageband 4.1.2) and they purchased it for both radio/TV broadcast.
A good thing to remember is more is not necessarily better, knowing how to use whatever you have will always produce better results. Good music, artistry..etc is seldom, if ever about the equipment/software.
Get the hardware stuff happening with GB, then make the jump.

Unable to Create Service Request Template in CRM
Hello,
I need to create a service request template in crm web ui,
Following are the steps followed.
I have identified the transaction type as SRQT screen shot attached below
However when I click on on the work center link groups of the service pro role, I am not able to find the same for the service request template
As per the post below it says that you need to go navigation bar profile and add the SM-SUPPORT work center and the work center link group as SM-SRQT-CR
How to customize service request templates
The error appears when I try to add the logical link id,
Because of the above error I am not able to create service request template in sap crm, please advice which logical link ID, I need to use so that the service request template can be created in the system.
Kind Regards
AtulHi Atul,
1. Screen shot 1 is correct
2. Screen shot 2 - You are at end of all work centers in your custom role which you might have copied from standard or Z role. If you look in standard role SERVICEPRO, navigation bar profile SRV-PRO, work center - SRV-ORD, you will find service request template
In Cases work Center in standard SERVICEPRO role you can create service request template.
Try copying this to your custom role in your required work center. It should work.
