Advice on Negative Scanners and LR3

Hi. My wife wants to scan several thousand old colour negatives so she can make Blurb photo books of old holidays. I use LR3 for nearly all my photo editing, but do have Photoshop elements 8.0 and I am windows 7 64 bit Pro. I have ready every post I can find on the forum and appreciate that a dedicated negative scannner will do a better job than a flatbed, however she is not ceretian she has negatives ofr every trip and we may have to scan some 6"x4" prints. From my research and looking at the reviews the choice seems to be between:
Epson V500 or V600 (I find it hard to tell what the diffenrece is!)
Canon 9000f
OpticFilm 7600i SE
The Optic won't handle prints and seems to be extremely labour intensive and slow, but maybe that's how you get the quality. I suspect it is overkill for a photobook with max size 10"x8". The reviews and prices of the Epson and canons is very similar. Any advice on which if anyting will be easier to interface with LR editing, quality of the included scanning software or other issies woudl be really appreciated before we jump in.

Yes, this is the "effective resolution," but of course the actual image size will be larger and dependent on the actual scanning resolution you use. The Air Force resolution targets used at the links I posted produce lower effective resolution readings due to line-pair "aliasing" that occurs with any digital capture device.

These resolution targets were meant to be used with film camera images that have only film grain and effective film/lens resolution limitations. In reality, scanner images (and digital camera images) provide enlargements that rival film images with higher resolution numbers. This is due to the effects of grain and lower inherent contrast performance of film versus the near perfect digital image sensor. I think you will be very pleased with up to 8" x 12" enlargement performance from 4,800 dpi Canon 9000f scans of 35mm film. I have also found that 600 dpi scans of very good 4" x 6" original prints enlarge quite nicely to 8" x 12" size. In some cases you may find that the original 4" x 6" print scan actually enlarges better than the negative scan. Color negative film is fairly unstable and starts to deteriorate in as little as five years. Well preserved original prints that have not been subjected to heavy light exposure are fairly stable. B&W negatives and Kodachrome film stock also have very high stability.

See Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device. But you'll still need the password.
Once you have the computer authorized to use the account she could change the password again to stop you buying apps on her card (assuming it's not on yours!). It would lock you out of upgrading them too but they should work unless she uses the deathorize all feature.
It depends on how amicable the split is...

I found a solution !!!
The problem is that the font SEGOE UI MAGER (one of the fonts) is not installed.
When you go on this link, you can download the missing font !

download this, open it and go on install !
Then you open your Itunes and your Text is there again. Maybe its a little bit to big but, its there !!!

G4 display is suddenly negative black and white image...

As I run out to work, I notice this strange appearance on the monitor. Negative black and white for everything on the monitor. Does anyone know what causes this or how to switch back to normal?

Try this key stroke...
Hold down the Control Option Apple keys then hit 8. This will toggle the effect as well.
Control + Option + Apple then hit 8.

Obvious diff color b/w CS5 and LR3

i have a puzzling problem with CS5 and LR3
I use LR3.6 and CS5 on an imac running 10.7.2.
I discovered an old "hand tinted" b&w photo from the early 1950's. I thought that i might improve it in CS5. I began the process but had to stop before finishing. I deceided to save it in LR3 as a .psd and as a jpg, to leave more flexibility when i got back to editing later. I noticed a problem:
Tho not finished editing, i noted a remarkable difference in the tone of the photos as shown.
I thought that the problem was related to the original being a b&w photo but have discounted this. Monitor is calibrated. both are in prophoto rgb. any ideas.

The original image was an old LR1 import from back when...
I noticed the old image recently and sent it from LR3.6 to CS5 where i began editing. I was interrupted and, in a hurry, i SAVED the image, with my editing, to LR3.6. The image retrieved from LR3.6 is the image at the top of the post
As i mentioned , the original photo was a poor scan of a poor hand-tinting job of a b&w photo. It had been stored in LR across LR revisions and i assume it is in "melissargb". In CS5 prophoto rgb is my default space.
The pinkish image HAS NOT BEEN IMPORTED IN TO LIGHTROOM AT ALL.WHEN I STOPPED EDITING IN CS5, I SAVED IT INTO LR3.6 and got the top image in my post. I did, however, also save the image to the desktop directly from CS5 and that is why i still have the the pinkish image unchanged by LR3.6
I realize my description has been clumsy and confusing. Perhaps i have explained it better

Magenta Printing Issues in CS5 and LR3

Hi,
   I have seen this issue mentioned in various forms over the last year or so but I have yet to see a real solution to the problem I am now experiencing.
History:
   I was running a Vista 64b OS and using LR 2.X and Epson's r2880 printer. I was able to print using LR 2.X without any issues both in B&W and color using the various papers, using iccs provided by various vendors (Moab for example) I never had the Magenta printing issues.
Fast Forward:
   I recently installed LR3 and CS5 under the same OS (Vista 64b) and when I print in color it is obviously Magenta heavy.   I am following the same practices as before of having LR3 manage the color (using one of the vendor iccs) and setting "No Color Managment" in the printer driver UI. Doing this gives me terrible crazy Magenta prints. I have un-installed and re-installed the Epson Printer driver numerous times with no positive effect. The causal effect was installing CS5 and LR3. These were the only changes made.
I also did try and print in CS5 with the same Magenta results. I posted in this thread along with the LR board also as I feel the LR3 and CS5 issue is related to some common theme.
I was wondering if anyone had a similar problem and had found a solution other than switching over to a Mac.

Thanks for the great Feed back. I was able to fix the printing problem by doing several things:
1) Re-install the printer drivers
2) Runnning the printer through nozzle checks and cleaning cycles. Had to peform the cleaning cycle 3 times.
3) Replacing the yellow ink cartridge. The ink level was showing about 15% remaining but in fact I was out of yellow ink. I had read that the ink levels were not always accurate.
So for me this issue has been solved. Thanks for the help.

HP B8850 - Added CS3 and LR3 - now won't print

I have been using the HP B8850 printer for some time with PS Elements and LR2 and the printer was functioning well. I upgraded to CS3 and LR3 and now the printer will not print from any application ( or do test prints for that matter).
The HP B8850 manual says that CS3 & the B8850 printer will not work with the HP supplied "Photoshop Plug in" so I have re-installed the HP driver twice (choosing only the driver) with no luck in getting prints.
I do get one test print after re-installing the HP printer driver but then the next print job just sits in the cue and the "on" light on the B8850 just flashes. I am guessing that I get one print because the print spool/cue has been cleared because the printer was turned off. Is this a spool problem? A setting in CS3 or LR3 ? Or what? Thanks! Dan

But what is the difference between them?

NEGATIVE STOCK:
Negative stock function used when you want to post Goods Issue quantity that larger than the book quantity.
For example: you have stock of material A000 = 90 qty and you want to Goods Issue with 100 qty.
Negative stock function is not relevant for the procurement, It can only use for the excess qty issue to to the production than stock qty. System will not create PR .
You need to do configuration setting to use this function.
Cust: In customizing negative stock are must allow for a valuation area, Plant and Storage location level.
In addition you can set the special stock at plant level such as
Consignment
Material provided to vendor
consignment stock at customer
sales order stock
project stock
returnable packaging with customer
returnable transport packaging
Application: The indicator for negative stock is with the storage data in the material master mast be maintained.
Note: It is possible for unrestricted use and blocked stock only.
With the standard price, There are no special features to the negative stock. But with the Moving average price , a price diff account can be posted to when goods are received.
STOCK BELOW SAFETY STOCK.
The Safety stock should cover any excess material consumption that may occur during the replenishment lead time as well as the normal requirements when deliveries delayed.
The Safety stock is therefore part of reorder point.
You do not required any special setting to use safety function. Just need to maintain the safety stock level in the material master.
If stock reduce below safety stock, system will create procurement proposal i.e Planned order or Purchase requisition.

I don't know if I can purchase both CS5 and LR3 Student Teacher Editions together. The restrictions with Student Teacher editions say you can only purchase one license of any Adobe STE product within a twelve month period. Does this mean I could purchase CS5 now and in a year buy LR3 or it's newest version?

Yes, you can buy both now, or whenever you want.
Per Adobe's Student Edition FAQ, "Each eligible person may purchase only one copy per Adobe Student and Teacher Edition title ..."
However, those two products are different titles - so you could get a copy of each. There's an example of how it works given in the FAQ.
It's a good thing actually because you probably will never have an opportunity to get a better offer on Adobe products than when you're a student.

You might be able to strip that corruption with one of these techniques:
Export the original document as a CSV file. Open this in Numbers, then transfer the names and information columns (individuallly) using Copy/Paste
Export the original document as an MS Excel file, Open that file in Numbers.
Copy the names column from the original document to the Clipboard.
Select the first cell in the Names column of the new table.
Use an Applescript to convert the contents of the clipboard to Text and paste it into the new document.*
repeat with Information column

Two scanners and one Mac

Is it possible to have two scanners working on one mac? Not at the same time but to have this possibility. I have one HP Multifunction 1610 and a EPSON Perfection 1260 with the transparency adapter, both are USB.
I use the HP for printing and ocasional scans but I need the EPSON because I have lots of slides to scan. I've installed the HP software but was wandering if installing the EPSON software would mess with the HP software or the system.

I've found VueScan. It supports both scanners and it's an standalone application. I'll give a it try but so far it seems perfect for what I need.

I left a negative feedback, and now the seller won't stop emailing me.

I bought an item on eaby, and it was completely different from the picture, and honesty, just terrible. I'm not someone who jumps to leave a negative review, and this is the first time I've ever, ever done it. I left a negative because I think it's wrong to misrepresent a product. Ever since leaving the feedback, the seller has contacted me every day, sometimes twice, telling me to change my review. I'm not changing it. I left an honest review. The end. I want no further contact with this seller. How do I make them stop emailing me?

Well, I'm sorry to hear that you had a crummy experience with this transaction. Sometimes, if you let a seller know ahead of time that you are unhappy with your item, they might make amends, but it is completely within your right as a buyer to expect to get the item you bought the first time around so..... Assuming the messages are coming via ebay messages and not your personal email, you'll have to sit down at a desktop or open a web browser on your phone and log into your account. Go to your Messages. On each one, there should be a section at the bottom that looks like what I have attached below. Go to the Report an inappropriate email and follow the instructions. Do this for EVERY message that you've been sent by this person. I don't know what good it ever does but this is what you can do. Report them. For each message sent. When a seller makes a Feedback Revision request, they are warned by ebay NOT to harass the buyer to do comply. The seller really should know better than to do this to you. I too have a problem with unwarranted and unwanted messages from a fellow ebay member (not a customer) who has been reported by me to ebay multiple times and long-ago blocked but still has somehow managed to circumvent it to continue to contact me. In the most recent message, he suggested I have marital relations with a pig. He also told me he has run out of his meds. I don't reply to something like that. I would suggest you not either with this seller. Eventually, someone else will leave bad feedback for this seller and you'll be off the hook. Good luck as you carry forward.

Install order, PS CS5 extended and LR3 upgrades...

I just purchased PS CS5 extended (upgrade from cs3 extended) and LR3 (upgrade from LR1). Which product should I install 1st, or does it matter?

Install 3.2 first, remove CS3, then install CS5. This should make sure that the correct app path is in the registry so 3.2 can find the path to CS5.
The reason people are having to reinstall CS5 is because when they install it, before removing the older version, the uninstaller for the older version removes the app path from the registry. One then must either reinstall CS5 or manually add the app path to the registry.
Doing it in the order I gave you should avoid having to jump through a bunch of hoops.
