Advice on Palm Model

I am a very, very light cell phone user (Verizon) and have no ongoing need for internet access on my phone, altho I do need it occaisionally (like maybe 2x per year), so would like the option when needed. However, I adore the convenience of having everything in one device with a phone/PDA, and use the PDA features 100 times more than I use the phone itself. I had a Kyocera Smartphone on a basic Verizon plan for years and loved it, but it eventually died. Because Verizon now won't sell me a Palm OS phone without forcing me to buy a wireless internet plan, I ended up buying some Windows Mobile thing that is the most hateful thing I've ever owned. So the question is -- how can I go back to using some kind of Palm device on my basic Verizon plan, and which Palm device would I buy? Thanks in advance for any advice.

I am working on the security model architecture for multi-tiered java application. The application architecture breaks down roughly as follows:
Presentation Layer (JSP/Java)
Business Layer (Java)
Persistence Layer (JDBC/Oracle DB)
Now, in the DB we will preserve information about various users, as well as the user's application permissions. My question pertains to authentication/authorization. Where is it most appropriate or efficient to verify a user's access to a functionality? Assume that the user and permission information is retrieved upon login and is made available to all levels.
The options, as I see them, include the following:
Presention layer - UI exposes only functionality applicable to the user.
Business layer - Encode the logic in this facade for the backend.
Persistence layer - Encode the logic in the data access objects.
Any thoughts?

Well, the layered approach is one way in which java applications are constructed.. the user interface is the top layer, which is composed of jsp files and other java files, and the objects that talk to the database are the bottom layer. Maybe an example would help..
You're looking at a page on the Java Discussion Forums. It's a jsp page. You click on the 'Watches' link (upper right). The link points to a servlet, which calls a method in an object that is in what I call the "business" or middle layer/tier. An object in this layer has methods that correspond to any request that needs to be made of the db.
This method in turn calls method/methods in the backend, or data layer, which queries the database and returns the watches for this particular user...
So, if you have a request/response transaction (click on a link or button, processing, and new page is loaded), it would make a round trip through the layers:
Presentation -> Business -> Data -> DB -> Data -> Business -> Presentation

HDTV Buying advice

I will be purchasing a HDTV in the next couple months. I have narrowed it down to a 40 or 42 inch Sony with 1080p / 120 hz. Can anyone give any advice on which model I should buy? I plan to use it for normal cable w/ some HD channels, and also hooked up to a PS3 for some gaming but mostly for blu ray. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

One of the largest differences between the W, Z and XBR model lines (aside from pricing) is generally considered to be the contrast ratio offered on each model. The XBR series currently offers dynamic contrast ratios around 50,000:1 on many models, compared to the 30,000:1 typically seen within the W and Z model lines. What this means is that XBR models are normally capable of rendering more subtle lighting differences in the same images than their W and Z counterparts.
Remember though that it’s generally recommended to make first-hand, side-by-side comparisons before you make any kind of TV purchase. Just because one model may appear to have more impressive hardware specifications than another does not necessarily mean that it will work better for you. To give you a specific example, when I purchased my KDL-52W3000 earlier this year, I compared it to a similar XBR model available at the same store. While the XBR may have had top-of-the-line specifications, it was two minor details – speaker placement and the coloration of the case itself - that ultimately helped me decide which to purchase.
Were there two or three specific models that you were looking at? Does anyone else have any recommendations for Crt2169?

Using EJBs in Web Dynpro and others model tecnology patterns

I'm having difficults in order to implement the business logic in Java.
I did a simple application and I put all business rules inside de controller in the web dynpro. Everything is ok to users, but I know that this isn't indicate.
I tried to encapsulate de business rules and dao in a session bea, but I'm not sucessfull. I'd like to receive advices/tutorial about model, I found some treads in the forum, but almost all links in the sdn are browke. I was thinking in using hibernate and spring, but I don't know with it's a good choive to sap world.

Need advice before buying MBP please!!

Hi everyone, sorry this is AGAIN a "need help before buying" post.
I'm basically looking to buy a MBP for movie production : I will do data transfer (footage into USB3 to TB2 drives/USB3 drives).
And maybe some playback of very large 4K video files.
I was looking at a few options :
First of all I missed my chance and saw a rMBP 15inch 2.4ghz(ish) for 1900 (canadian) and didn't order it.
I've got my eyes on either another rMBP which is a 2.7 with Geforce 650M (june 2012) for 2400$ or a brand new one with maybe 2.5ghz for 2200$.
Your advices on these models? Is the Iris Pro GPU good enough? Is 2.2ghz enough for my tasks?

My Location for Google Maps Not working on Palm Treo 500

I have a Palm Treo 500 running WM 6.1. I have google maps installed on my device but I get the error "Your current location is temporarily unavailable" when I try to use the My Location function.
I have read on the google site that some devices don't have 'cell ID' enabled in the devices API. Does anyone out there know if it can be enabled (and how if it is possible).

My device is one of the unlocked ones on o2. I have been in touch with o2 and they say 'go to Palm'. I can't seem to find anywhere to get any advice from Palm (other than this forum).

Models that turn off integrated antenna when using antenna jack.

I am looking for a cell phone that has an external antenna jack AND will turn off the integrated antenna when the external jack is inserted. Lets define the term " integrated" as being an internal antenna or the permanent attached external or nub style. This can be on the market now or on the used market. The Treo line, even the old ones, is my primary interest but only because i have tried them and I could check email. Any HP/Palm model cell phone would be fine even if it is only available on the used ebay market. Knowing what models DO and DO NOT have an external jack and knowing what ones WILL and WILL NOT turn off the antenna next to my head will help me narrow down my options. So knowing a model will not do as I want is just as valuable. Thanks for the help. Pete I try to buy local. With cell phones that is hard for obvious reasons. HP has many workers in my hometown so i will support them first. If you can think of a non-HP or PALM company that offers this option please let me know and I will add it to the backup list.

Set all destinations to always ask and select no whenever the phone gives you a request, set Maps to offline, and set location to just use intergrated GPS. By the way, just been to Portugal using Vodafone and data charges only about £5 for week, and they've just improved allowances, may be worth checking your service providers web site and see if it's necessary to bother about data roaming, they all tend to follow each other, and Data roaming charges in europe seem to be coming down !

Synchronize Palm IIIxe with Outlook on Microsoft Exchange

Our tech support suggested that only some Palm models wil synchronize with Outlook on Microsoft Exchange. Does anyone know if Palm IIIxe will allow for this?

Are you asking for a wireless sync or a cable sync? If its a wireless sync to the exchange server, this device cannot do that. A cable sync you will need to outlook conduits from the CD. If you do that have the CD then you need pocket mirror from www.chapura.com

New MacBook Pro Model?

Would love some advice, feedback and thoughts on the new just released Macbook Pro's.
I have a late 2008 15" unibody 2.53GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with higher end dedicated graphics card option. Looking to purchase a new MacBook Pro. You ask...What do I use it the Mac For?
Documents, powerpoint/keynote, numbers, loads of itunes, Djay, surf the net..etc
Love to edit video but usually simply use imovie. Thought I would get into Final Cut for work but have rarely used it. Never had the time to learn. Have used BoinxTV but not often. Probably have switched to the dedicated graphics card maybe 12 times.
Not sure I still need the higher model? Might miss the screen size but I did have an old white MacBook and liked that baby.
What is your advice? Base model? Upgrade the Ram or Hard Drive? Go solid state or Seagate hybrid? Or wait for that technology to come down to reality on the price.
Go stock and leave it alone.

Actually, we’re not supposed to speculate here although I wouldn’t look for the OS this year. It’s pretty certain we’ll see updates before then although the current OS is pretty darn cool and very full-featured for us picky Mac owners. You can wait or jump on now and learn a lot. “The only thing that’s constant is change itself”.

External keyboard for Palm Centro

I've read a few reviews on Amazon on the Palm wireless keyboards (Palm 3245WW) saying they don't work as advertised and that Palm no longer makes them/supports them and was totally not helpful in resolving any of the issues. Does anyone know of an external keyboard that will work with the Centro? Or new drivers that resolve these problems? IR, Bluetooth, wired....I don't care. My wife has the phone and texts a lot and the phone keyboard is extremely painful for her to use for long periods of time.

Everywhere you go, even here, you'll find people who have problems for one reason or another (user error, wrong driver, other third-party software incompatibilities, actual hardware issues) pairing the two devices. But that particular keyboard is compatible with the Centro. Searching on the Forums here will yield threads evidencing the fact that users have successfully paired the keyboard with their Centro.
Just realize that the Bluetooth Wireless Keyboard is no longer a current Palm model. Here is the device's support page where you can download the latest driver, etc.:

HP LaserJet P2035n Drivers for 64bit XP

So I tried to use the HP email and live chat support but neither worked because they said my p/n or s/n were invalid and I am pulling them off the printer itself. The issue I am having is with a HP LaserJet P2035N. It is hooked to the network and the driver for xp work the PLC5 ones. I have one computer that is running XP 64 bit and when I go to download the drivers for it there are no network driver for the printer only local drivers. I called the 1800 number and they gave me a website to go to that just redirected back to where I was. Any advice?

I have a requirement to create a report where I need to show the unfulfilled sales orders due to materials were out of stock for those sales orders.
e.g. there were 3 orders placed yesterday. we partialy delivered order - 1 as one of the material was available but second material was out of stock and order - 2 was not delivered at all due to out of stock materail and order - 3 was delivered completely

I have looked in to the material availability date and it gives me the required result about 80%.
only problem is e.g.
if the customer placed order for a material for 10qty and if we had 5 in stock same day and the rest of the 5 qty is available after the month but material availability picks up that 5 qty and it does not show that we were not able to fullfill the order 100%. material availability date does not pick up the second date.
how do i overcome this issue? do you have any idea?

Windows 7 Won't Boot. Frozen no matter what i try.

Hello! My Laptop Is A Toshiba L755D-S5204.
& I'v had problems with it sense i got it 2 yr's ago "Brand new" & contacted before but i recieved no help for the issues i was having. but i'v had to tolerate it the way it was sense i'v been in & out of hospitals. & today it's taken all day to get nowhere.
But today i had a bigger issue, I can't get past the windows screen & a blue screen flashes than it brings me back to the Start Windows Normally Or Start Windows Fix Launch Startup Repair. & When i go into Repair it just shows a mouse & doesn't load anything but a black screen.
When i go to boot into Safe Mode it does the same thing. & I Never even got a Recovery disk for this laptop & it's always had issue's such as the DVD Drive has never worked. So now all i can use is a 8GB USB Stick to try & save this Laptop. Is there any Toshiba Software i can load onto a USB Stick to get WIndows to boot?
Help will be appreciated! I Want to fix this for good & can use any advice towards this model Laptop.
Also could use a bit of help Removing the DVD Drive. I Got a new one but never installed it & not exactly sure if it fit's but it look's like it does & maybe my only hope here. & If i reformat it i don't want to loose some stock Toshiba Software like the mouse functions & FN Key features.

I'm a total newbie in XML DB and need advice on generating XML from database.
The situation is the following: there is a legacy web application which uses an XML document as a configuration file. This document conforms to some well-defined schema. For instance:

It contains portions of static data which are common for all users as well as dynamic personal data.
Dynamic data comes from two sources:
1) security considerations (for instance, not all widgets are available for some users) - thus the "master" configuration content must be filtered, but not otherwise modified;
2) user preferences (for instance, user can set widget2 to be opened by default) - thus values of some attributes must be different for each user. When the user saves her preferences, the entire document with new values is posted back to server.
We want to try to store user preferences, apply security and generate personalized configuration documents using XML DB.
So we need advice on storage models and generation procedures - which should be more efficient and easy to support or extend.
Please note, that there is no requirement to actually store data as XML.

I'm trying to re-produce a IP Planning scenario in BPC. We have a cube with multiple different keyfigures(ex: A,B,C)
When we are creating application in applicationset we can create all characteristics of BI cube(IP Scenario) as dimensions in BPC then how can we handle keyfigures of BI Cube(IP Scenario) in BPC?
I heared BPC will support only single keyfigure(Signeddata) but my scenario is not suitable for account base model in BI.
BI Cube contains multiple keyfigures(ex:A,B.C)
Please advice on the model to acheive in BPC as i',m new to BPC.
