Advice on process for launching live BC Site

Hi,
I am a new creative cloud member based in the UK and paying a monthly subscription. I am working on a test BC site and would like to launch it live in about 6 weeks or so. I would like to use the payment gateway (although i have managed to link existing paypal business account) and event booking features. The Payment Gateway is not currently enabled in the admin console of my test site. I would like to use these features at some point and also allow one more user access to the Admin Console. Is this possible ? Will this cost a bit more ? and what is the process to set this up when I am ready ?

Hey Matt,
With your creative cloud membership you get several webBasics+ BC sites included.  These are basic BC sites and if you need eCommerce and or event bookings, email marketing, etc. you will need a higher plan. If you pay monthly you can get your BC site for $38/month which has eCommerce-- called the "webCommerce" plan.  You'll need this plan to do eCommerce.
Each BC plan now comes with 3 admin users so you can add others onto the account besides yourself.  If this is a site for a client and not yourself, I recommend signing up for a Free Partner Plan for BC first.  This will let you create sites in your Partner Portal for your clients and since you are their partner adding yourself as an admin on their accounts won't count toward their "free 3 admin user" limit. You'll also have the added benefit of being able to upgrade in the future to markup the BC hosting service and charge your clients your own rate as well as completely rebrand the BC backend to match your brand identity.
If this is a site for you and not a client, it still might behoove you to become a free partner.  One note, though.  I'm not sure if you'd be able to transfer your existing Creative Cloud bundled BC sites to your partner portal-  support for CC sites on BC is still evolving and hopefully a staffer might now more about moving an existing BC site with your CC membership to a free partner portal.

    Once you are done with your sitet, Click on Publish in Muse, select New Site from the drop down, It will ask you a name for your site, which will be used for  site url, you will get a url like mysite.businesscatalyst.com, then go to the browser and login to the admin panel, mysite.businesscatalyst.com/admin and on Dashboard, click Launch site. This will push your site live, and you can then add your custom domain.
    Also make sure that you have completed all these actions mentioned here

  • Process for customising BC site templates

    Hi,
    I've been looking through BC Gurus which is great, although quite in depth, I should explain I am very new to BC and Web design in general. Whilst looking around the net it suggests it would be quicker to take a BC template and customise for my clients needs.
    However, I can not find any decent tutorials for a sensible process for taking a template and customising. I suspect I should be looking to edit the main site CSS file and default template, but is that correct?
    In a nutshell, I took the Halftone template, applied to my site, synced with Dreamweaver, now what! I can't even find how to change the logo
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Grant, The forums are very active.
    There are a number of us that are not fans of the - just edit templates to create clients sites so some of us wont comment on this. But in terms of what your asking is quite broad, its a lot to do with HTML and CSS and Javascript knowledge.. on top of that BC knowledge as well.
    A logo change is going to the content holder or part of the template where the logo is and changing the image html. This is more standard html and css knowledge and people spend a long time learning this and a wealth of information. I do not use templates for example so I can only give a broad answer on how to edit html for example. If you need to learn html and css stuff there is a million and one things out there. In the guide section on these forums there are docs about things and also links to guide sites like BC Gurus to help learn BC and this stuff.
    So it is quite hard to post a helpful response so I guess that is why you not got a reply.

    Yes, you can publish site and delete it whenever you want to. If you will keep the site in trial mode, you won't be able to add your custom domain to it.

  • How to add and develop eCommerce to a live BC site.

    I have an exsisting live BC site http://www.alchemiststea.co.uk/ and want to continue developing it by adding ecommerce to it.
    I want to develope and share the site progress with the client without publishing to the live site untill development is complete.
    I can see that I have the option of hiding pages and areas untill ready for publishing but I cant see how I would then be able to view or share the site in development.
    What I really want is two versions of the site a live version and a development version. I can see that I could make a copy of the existing site and start a new BC trial version which I could copy back in to the live version's location (exsisting BC hosting) once complete. But this still seems a little cack handed and I'm concerned that it may not work as I would then need to manually add products, blogs news items etc as these would not copy over with the site.
    Could anyone advise what best practice would be for this? Is there a magic button I'm missing?

    You could put all your new pages in a Secure Zone, an area of the website that requires a user name and password. Once you have the site ready to launch, you can simply remove the Secure Zone for those pages.
    Here's a quick 'how to' example:
    To create a Secure Zone, first go to the Site Manager (left side menu in Admin) > Pages and create a new page. You can use this new page as the initial landing page once a user logs in (it could have links to any pages you are developing - a kind of handy place to put notes too for the client previewing your work in progress).
    Next select Site Manager > Secure Zone. Add a new Secure Zone. Give it a name, like 'Development', and select your new landing page.
    When you create a new web page for your client, you can add it using the Site Manager > Secure Zone > (name of your secure zone) > add pages to Secure Zone.
    In the case of dynamic pages (like a catalog or product page) you would put links to these pages inside a page that is within your Secure Zone. Note that you can also use templates with Secure Zones. I'd suggest you use a duplicate copy of your site template for this so you can put links in the menu specific to the Secure Zone, like a link to a catalog or product page.
    Next you will need a login page to access the Secure Zone. Create a new page for this and insert the Secure Zone login module from the Modules toolbox menu on the right of your Admin > Pages > editing.
    Final part is granting access. In the Admin menu (right side) select CRM > Customers > Add Contact (if the user is not already in the CRM).
    Once the customer is selected, choose Subscriptions from the tabs just below their name. Then check the box listed under Secure Zone.
    Still in the CRM with that customer, select Details from the tab just below their name, if there is no user name or password shown, you can add one (click edit).

    ok the different steps are:
    1 google for webdesign companies
    2 call them
    3 arrange the pay and the deadlines specs, layout etc i mean technical and commercial things
    4 wait till it's finished
    5 cough up all the money
    6 go online
    --> this takes about 5 months max
    other possibility is
    1 learn java (if your good first descent site in 1-2 weeks)
    2 learn EJB's (if ya wanna put businnes logic in beans ya better now EJB) for beginner to work with it (and the applicationserver settings etc about 4 weeks minimum)
    3 develop the things you need and make the site (prolly longer the 2 months depending if yur full time/part time on it and how good you are)
    4 debug, test, implement on server depending dedicated/hosted somewhere and serverreloadtime about 1-2 weeks
    5 get online, and restart devellopment cause half doesn't work 4 weeks
    6 finnaly try to get your wife/girlfriend back because she hasen't been able to live with someone who doesn't talk but only works (1 week if your good)
    Get real, if you com here asking for the steps, why don't you ask if we could make a complete functional and technical analysis...
    and if you like it, you can let us program it for you to...
    no pain no gain.. do the effort, read up on those things and finally do it, and ask descent Q that aren't asked before!

  • MacMinis + SL Server for Intranet live streaming ?

    Hi,
    is this asking for trouble (not enough horse power) or can the MacMini be used for a live stream into our intranet?
    The documentation on this Apple site actually suggests a Macbook (for the Broadcaster) and a MacPro (as streaming server).
    We will need to do this only, say, three times per year for 45 Minutes.
    Signal will come via Firewire 400 from the camera.
    Will two MacMinis be able to handle the load?
    How many clients, do you think, can connect at the same time before we run into trouble?

    There's a lot to consider when dealing with streaming.
    If you're only streaming to the LAN then you might be able to use multicast, in which case this is a no-brainer - the server only sends out a single video stream to which all the clients subscribe (the heavy work is done by your network switches).
    If, on the other hand, you can't use multicast, or if your 'intranet' really consists of multiple sites/locations then you need to consider bandwidth since that's likely to be your major bottleneck.
    It really doesn't take much CPU to stream a connection (the hard work is in the encoding which is why Apple recommend a separate machine for encoding which passes the stream to another machine for distribution). I don't know what the hard limits are on a Mac Mini as the streamer but I wouldn't be surprised to see at least 100 clients on a reasonably-high quality stream. If you find it can't handle that (or you have way more clients) then QuickTime Streaming makes it easy to add additional streaming servers so all you need to do is balance your clients across the various streaming servers, making it easy to grow incrementally once you work out what your load is.

  • Can the WLPI be used for a perl web site

    We have a client, which has a perl(Apache/mod_perl) based web site. Cutomers submit orders on the web site and right now there is an order-processing system, but the client is looking for workflow/process product which will ease with all this order processing stuff like acknowledgement, approval, shipping, etc....So my question here is, can they use the WeBLogic Process Integrator for this purpose? The reason I am asking this is, looking at the WLPI docs, it looks like a Java/WebLogic only product and cannot be used for a perl web site.Thanks,Shireesh Thanneru

    Yes.
    However I would not recommend it, at least as your primary connection for the SmartTV.  Relying primarily on VZW data plans is a bad way to view video services such as Netflix at the moment.  It is very easy to chew through your plan with only a few videos depending on the resolution and a few other factors.  Not only that but a smart TV may be periodically checking the internet from time to time to download firmware updates or provide reporting stats to the manufacturer. 
    VZW Jetpacks continue to be a poor choice for home primary internet replacement.  The data plans that come from VZW and all other metered wireless providers are not friendly to this kind of internet traffic.  Letting your guard down for a moment could result in costly overages and once you accumulate them you will be liable to pay them.  A normal cable or DSL line with a high/unlimited cap would be more appropriate.
    If the Jetpack is a backup or temporary internet connection then go for it.  This is what a Jetpack is designed for, you can get by every now and then without too much risk.  Just make sure you are powering your Jetpack down as soon as you are done streaming and keep a close eye on your data plan before and after any major viewing.

    Could windows Firewall be stopping this geo-location weather ticker app from working? When I start Captivate 8, I get the message indicating the the firewall is blocking some features of the program. When I check the geo var it seems empty.

    I have installed Adobe Lightroom CC.  In the process of launching, a popup appears, that says:  "AN INTERNAL ERROR HAS OCCURRED.  Cannot create the required folder:  /Users/(my user name)/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Lightroom/Develop Presets."  So even though Lightroom CC is installed, it will not launch.  What do I need to do to allow it to launch?

    The problem was solved today.  Here's the full story.  I'm a Mac user.  At first I installed Lightroom CC on my iMac (desktop).  I had this problem so I called Adobe, and was referred to a "special unit" .  After about an hour the tech solved it for me ... we did a screen sharing and she took control of my computer for a loooong time.  Because of language difficulties, at first I wondered if she knew what she was doing but she eventually solved it.  Although she couldn't explain exactly what she was doing, she summarized it by saying "it was a permissions problem."  I asked if I would have the same issue later when I installed it on my laptop (Macbook Air).  She said probably not.
    But I did.  The same internal error popup arose on launch and launch did not complete on my laptop.  I tried chat but no joy so I eventually called Apple Care.  I had noticed that on my laptop (and the iMac for that matter), that there was no Library folder after my user name.  The Apple tech explained that the Library folder is actually there but it is hidden because it's very easy for users to do some very nasty things to their computer by going astray while in the Library folder.  The folder is actually there, but they hide it.  I did remember seeing that the tech helping me with my iMac had typed the work "Library" while she was controlling my computer.  Basically she had activated the hidden Library folder so she could open the path that Lightroom was trying to follow to create that "Develop Presets" folder.  For some reason, the inability to create that folder in the launch process was preventing launch from being completed.  The Apple tech said she didn't actually have to do that and activated the Library folder by use of the Go selection on the menu bar.  Anyway, once that complete path was replicated and opened, the next step was to go to the Lightroom Permissions field and add my user name to the user categories already there and enable "read and write" permissions to my user name.  Once done, I shut down my laptop, and then rebooted.  I launched Lightroom and then boom, voila, heavens to betsy, etc. it launched and suddenly a dismal weekend turned into a great one. 
    I am not a geek, so I hope this makes some sense.  I also hope Lightroom launches again tomorrow and beyond!
