Advice on slideshows

Hi All,
So im now developing another site and i need to display a photo gallery. I have it in my head to have slices, rectangular in shape of several pictures that are positioned in the middle of the page, that fade in and out, all at different times. Can anyone advise me on the best slideshow function to use for this?
Also, would i be right in thinking the way to do this would be to have a sideshow for each slice/picture element. That way i can adapt the timing to be different for each. If that all makes sense?!
All help appreciated!

jQuery Cycle 2 is probably the easiest to implement, it also has some nice features and good documentation to get you going...

  • Voice commentary advice on slideshows

Hello. I use both Adobe Encore DVD 2.0 and Adobe Audition 2.0. Need some advice. I have a slideshow that requires different voice commentaries on each slide with music. I know I can just multi-track in Audition (voice and music). What's the best way to do "sync" the slides to the different voice commentary? I know in some less powerful DVD authoring software, you can add voice commentary to each slide then it is all mix at DVD creation. Or will I just have to watch the slideshow and "talk it through" while recording in Audition?
    Any help would be appreciated.

The best & easiest way is as you suggest - record it whilst watching the clips.
It's the only way to be certain it is all in perfect sync.

  • Advice on Slideshow program

I'd like to purchase Fotomagico 3.0 to create personal slideshows. However, I'm confused about the pro vs express versions. My ultimate goal is to play these slideshows on my Sony PS3, which recognizes MP4. Can I just buy the express version and accomplis this task? Or does the pro version allow for the highest quality output? I think the express version will only export high quality .mov files. Does that mean I would need to buy an additional converter? Or would it be a lot easier to buy the pro version?

    Hi Jon,
I've used DVDxDV before with success. Easy to use and the quality is pretty good as well. Outputs to quicktime full ntsc file as well (maybe you can do PAL as well if you need it).
quick question and apologies if this sound silly:
you're not using your extracted DVD footage as the final footage are you? Or, is it for dailies? Asking because the final quality won't be as good as the original b/c you are compressing/uncompressing and re-compressing again. I have a feeling you may know this, but i wanted to mention it just in case.
    Cheers,
    Keebler

  • Image quality in slideshow is significantly deteriorated

I am new to Premiere Elements (3.0) and still have much to learn about navigating and using the software. I have no prior experience with other comparable products so I am a newbie in all respects.
I took a series of still images from a 7 megapixel camera, all shot in highest resolution, and placed them into a slideshow in Premiere Elements 3.0. Image quality is significantly deteriorated when I view the slideshow, which I've not yet burned to dvd, my intended output.
I don't understand why the original resolution of the images is degraded. I'm hoping there are simple settings I must change. reading through the software documentation thus far has not provided the answer.
do I need to take the original images and save them to a different format in Photoshop Elements before placing them into a slideshow for dvd output? if so, does this need to be done one image at a time (I've got 400 images) or can they be converted as a group?
I'm getting desperate and would appreciate anyone's advice.

The slideshow exported from PE3.0 will be at NTSC (or PAL) resolution so 720x480... so significantely lower resolution than your source photos and it will be interlaced. When viewed on a TV it will look fine but not so good on a computer monitor. Try burning to DVD and viewing.
Also PE3.0 might have problems working/burning photos at such a high resolution. As the final export it restricted to 720x480 you can resize your photos to 1000x750 and these will be easier to process by PE3.0

  • Urgent advice needed for exporting a slideshow in iPhoto '09

    hi,
what is the best setting for exporting a slideshow from iPhoto '09?
I'll be burning it with iDVD and it will be watched on a large flat screen TV.
I WAS GOING TO USE THE .MOV option with the default settings but should I use the DV settings?
I've only got time to try it once.
    thanks

Honestly there is no answer for that until you do it. A mov will work perfectly fine. But there are variables: The quality and sharpness of the original photos. How they survive being compressed to a mov, how that mov survives being compressed to DVD format. The quality of the DVD player (and no, they are not all the same) and finally the crispness of the screen. If all goes well, yes it will look perfectly good. But you're not going to know until you do it.

  • Need slideshow advice. Colors fading on export - no matter what I try

I don't remember having this much trouble in the past.
The slideshow looks excellent in iPhoto, but when I try to export it to iDVD or build it in iMovie, it loses color. The same thing happened when I tried Fotomagico. I tried making the iMovie movie HD1080, but that only increased the resolution - the color problem remains.
See example below of the pic in iMovie before import into the timeline and after. See how "dull" the second pic is?
    Any ideas?

    Hello, Katie,
Sorry for your photo loss problems.
I am not understanding what you did before you lost them.
The 326 pictures that I had found, I found them in the albums that I had copied them into, prior to the problem
Are you meaning that you put photos into albums within iPhoto? Those 'photos' are only alias that point to your iPhoto Library where the photos are actually stored. If you put them into albums in iPhoto, the originals don't get copied and should still be in the iPhotoLibrary.
So, I don't think I understand what 'albums' you mean, unless you moved them yourself, outside iPhoto.
As you are finding, when iPhoto loads, it looks into iPhotoLibrary files to find and load your photos. Usually, these are in your Pictures folder. If you have moved the photos to some other folders, iPhoto is not finding them because they are not where it looks. If you have not deleted the photos, you should be able to find them by searching on your hard drive for the .jpgs if that is the format for your photos.
If you have tampered with iPhotoLibrary's files and folders, you may have caused serious problems. See this: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=165521
If your search for the photos on your HD found only the 326 photos, then they are gone. You must have deleted them somehow. You might try a Data recovery program such as these: http://www.prosofteng.com/products/datarescueinfo.php?PHPSESSID=6644886d9d018b32492d16da027253c4

For the future.....always make a backup of your iPhoto Library. Our photos are too precious to trust having them in only one location.

  • Anybody create slideshows for businesses? ...need advice

    Hi Kids,
well, ...my goal is to create slideshows for businesses here in town. But I am not sure what businesses would benefit from them.
I have done quite a few slideshows for family and friends, and am trying to think of ways to earn some extra money to put my daughter thru school.
I am employed full time as an Art Director for an advertising agency, so I would like to use my experience as a graphic designer to create professional packaging/graphics, etc. for the client as well.
Anybody care to share what type of business to approach, that lend themselves to a slideshow, ...like your typical wedding slideshow.
    Thanks so much in advance
    Robin

One possible service you could provide is to scan in people's photo albums, page by page or better yet have them remove and submit those photos in order and create a slideshow either in iPhoto, iMovie or iDVD (that's what I prefer) and add some music. I get better final image quality when creating the slideshow entirely in iDVD and it's easy to add titles and comments
(NOTE: if you import the photos using iPhoto or iDVD's media pane all of the file names/titles will be shown if you select the Show titles option. If you select the photo thumbnails in iPhoto and drag into the open iDVD slideshow organization window, you won't get all of the titles when the option is selected. Makes it easier to add just one or two titles without having to delete all the rest manually.)
A great, IMO, slideshow application that you can import into iDVD to burn is PhotoPresenter. I think it has better themes and transitions than iPhoto and will take both stills and video clips in the same show.

what are you viewing the results on? The Mac computer monitor using DVDSP simulator or Apple DVD player; Broadcast PAL monitor, domestic TV?
I would suggest checking the compression settings in DVDSP preferences > Encoding tab( command and , )
do a few short duration tests with different settings, its not always the highest data rate that gives good results.
    best practice settings are;
    field order: auto
Mode: test between the two one pass settings
max bit rate: always set less than 7.0 try testing at 5.0 5.5 6.0 6.5
    motion estimation: Better

  • Can you show slideshow within Lightroom 4.4 in Adobe RGB color space?

Can you show slideshow within Lightroom 4.4 (not export out from LR) in Adobe RGB color space provided that you are using a wide gamut monitor which is capable and hardware calibrated & profiled to show such color space?
If this is possible, what is required to do so in Windows 8 and i7-4770 & HD Graphics 4600 platform or does LR take care of it automatically?
This is very basic question, however, I could not find a clear answer/info from LR documentation, so wish that someone can advice.

Those settings are probably stored in a plist somewhere in ~/Library/Preferences. If you can locate the appropriate file, you should be able to copy it to all the network user folders.

  • Help!  I need to have hotspots in a slideshow.

Okay, here is where I'm at, and I really need some help.  Background information: I have Flash CS4, but the tutorial I
used to create this used Action Script 2.0.
Here is a link to what I have...
    http://atleventguide.intuitwebsites.com/
Click on "inside this issue."  This is just a basic mockup of the site, but you can see that the client wants to have images of the pages of their publication that you can browse and have their advertising be clickable so it takes you to Coke's site for example.  The example you see there I did in Flash, but I was having trouble making the hotspots be active at the right time -- i.e. right now Morningside market is clickable even when the image is not up, and then it goes away and the hotspots I have on Coke aren't working.
The client also wants to have links to each page by number i.e. Front Cover/1-2/2-3.  So I saw that that part would be easy to do in Fireworks, but can't figure out the clickable aspect.  Then on the other hand, in Flash, I can't get it all to work either.
I'm stuck in the middle -- I can only get half of what I need to accomplished and can't figure out how to get it all.  Thanks so much if you have any advice!

Just like you should have different images for each frame, you should have different hotspots for each frame. When you place the same objects in adjacent frames the latter ones can inherit characteristics from the first ones.  To avoid hotspots losing their identity like this, alternate layers for them (two separate layers) so you can have blank keyframes between hotspots but not skip a frame.
As far as having buttons that go to different pages, just create the buttons and have their functions use gotoAndStop(#) commands, where # is the frame number for the section of the slideshow.

  • Multiple libraries, Pbook/Pmac, advice for management & updating please.

    Hi Everyone,
I travel frequently, and am looking for suggestions to keep all my iPhoto libraries up to date. I currently have a g5, Powerbook, and Mini.
I just upgraded to iPhoto 6 and I have several thousand photos on my Dual g5. I just came back with 1000 more from my diving trip. The problem is, they are on my Powerbook, and taking up alot of space on the relatively small hard drive. I managed to work through the rough upgrade from 5 to 6, and now I need some more help...
    1) What is your advice for managing multiple libraries of photos.
    2) What is the best way to transfer the iphoto pics (and movies) to my desktop, which of course has the larger storage capacity, after travelling...
    Thanks,

    Jason:
There are several different approaches to what you want to do. Let me just throw out a couple that I'm familiar with.
To get the new photos from your PB to your G5 and maintain any keywords, and other organization effort you put into them, you'll need the paid version of iPhoto Library Manager. It will allow you to merge libraries or copy between libraries and maintain the metadata, etc. That's the only way currently available to move photos from one library to another and keep the roll, keywords, comments, etc. with those photos. You can connect the two Macs with one in the Target Mode, probably your PB, and then run iPLM to move the photos to the G5 library.
Now there is a way to have a library on your PB that reflects the one on your G5 but is only a fraction of the size. That's to have an alias based library on your PB that uses the Originals folder as its source of source files. (My 25,600 files, 27G, are represented by an iPhoto Library folder of only 1.75G). When the PB is not connected with the G5, say with a LAN, it will have limited capabilities which are in part: you'll only be able to view the thumbnail files, be able to add comments, create, delete or move albums around, add keywords (but with some hassle-but it can be done). You can't do anything that requires moving thumbnails around, work with books, slideshows or calendars. Once the two computers are networked together again the library will act as normal.
Now while on the road you can have a "normal" library to import new full sized files, keyword them, add comments, etc. and then transfer to the G5 library. Once in the G5 library they will be represented in a roll(s) and corresponding folder in the Originals folder. You then fire up the "alias" library, and import those new folders in the G5 Originals folder.
It may be a lot of work but it may be one way of doing it.
I've not done any of the "sharing" with iPhoto so don't know if that's another possible candidate for transferring.
P.S. FWIW I've created this workflow for converting from a conventional library to an alias based one.

  • Advice Needed - Events that span multiple years?

Just wanted some advice from others if this makes sense. I was originally thinking a setting up Events for only one year but does it make more sense to say have a Event called Birtday Parties and have all my kids birthday parties pics for all the years in that one event and then have smart albumns to show current year/4-5 star rated pics and maybe one smart albumn that does the same but across all years. How do others arrange their events.

    Craig7535:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. What you might want to look into is using a Smart Album to group all the photos of a specific annual event. The criteria would be Date = xx/xx/07 AND date = xx/xx/06, etc. That would group all the photos on that month and date for each year added. Now if some of the photos have a different date you can change it within iPhoto so they would be picked up by that smart album.
You could create an Event for that but would have to manually find and drag the appropriate files into that even.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Database storage for video, movies and slideshows?

    hi all,
i am trying to see if there is software or a database that would let me organize my videos/slideshows/movies.
since i have ported to mac from PC i am seeing the following file types in my "video + slideshow" folder: wmv, pdf, 3gp, avi. mov, mp4 and m4v. my recollection is that these were either downloaded form the internet, created on some PC software or created using Keynote, Aperture or iPhoto.
i am also going to post on the adobe forum as i have purchase the Creative Suites package and if there is an adobe product that does this exceptionally well i would be happy to buy it.
THANKS in advance for any help or advice on this.

It's the same as adding an iframe, at least in the Mac version. If you want to add other media types, you can, but you'd need to manually enter the code or at least manually set the embed/object parameters. For more info, try googling things like "object embed WMV video" or similar. For instance:

  • Expression Issue - Photo Slideshow

    Dear forum,
I need some advice on expression settings in After Effects.
The project I am working on is a slideshow with 300 photographs. They move from left to right (panning horizontal while maintaining their vertical position) within 150 seconds.
All of these pictures are in one composition as single layers, in their right order (first layer is picture 1, lowest layer is picture 300). I want to achieve the movement using a null-object. Now between each of these photos there ought to be a space/border of 600 pixels.
I already repositioned half of all the layers and linked them to the null-object. In order to having just the null object as my panning move for the last step.
Now I figured: Why not realise this with an expression. My idea is to give all the layers' position values an expression, that tells them to multiply the value by it's index (layer) number and by 600 (for the space between).
Could you guys give me some advice on how to write the expression code for this.
    t.i.a.
    Daniel

    X=thisComp.layer(index-1).transform.position+width+600;
