Advice on sound filter

Hey ya'lls,
I was wondering if anyone had a quick opinion on what type of audio filter I may be able to use on a segment I have. In one feature, my talent is speaking into a microphone and (much to my frustration) is holding the mac a little too closely to his mouth, so his speech sounds very harsh if you know what I mean. I don't know jack about audio design, so I was wondering if anyone knew of a filter that would be aid in helping make this clip sound better? I of course realize that certain audio that is captured poorly is going to sound poor no matter how many filters you apply... but I think this might be someone salvageable if there were a filter that could doctor it up a bit. I can't rerecord the spot, either, so my only option is to work with what I got.
Thanks in advance for any answers!

Sorry, I didn't catch that. When people lump all their thoughts together without regard to paragraph form, my eyes tend to glaze over and I miss the bits that get tacked on at the end.
What I know is if the audio is over modulated, aka - peaks at -0db, whatever is garbled is gone.
This problem appears to be a major one then. You might want to also wander over to the soundtrack forum and see what the wizards there can offerup.
good luck.

  • Need an advice on sound effect.

    Hi
I have a small production videorecorded inside on green screen. After keying the thing, it is suposed to look as if the talent is standing outside talking.
Is there a way in audition CS6 to put on a filter / effect to make the sound more "outsidish"?
    Thanks.
    Ulf

Well, the thing with "outside" is that it's generally the deadest, dryest acoustic you can imagine.  Unfortunately, it's easy to add various room ambience reverbs to sound--but darn near impossible to remove a hollow, echoey room sound if it was recorded that way.  So, the question is, did you manage to close mic it sufficiently that room noise isn't an issue?
In any case, rather than a filter, what I'd probably do is add a loop of some outside noises.  Exactly what would depend on your background but even some light wind/bird song/cars driving by/waves on the sea or whatever might help with the illusion.
If you don't have your own collection of outdoor ambiences, I can recommend http://www.freesound.org as an excellent (and free) source.  Just search for "garden ambience" or "forest ambience" or whatever and you'll get lots of choices.

  • What sound filter to use to make a mans voice sound like he's outside.

Hello, I have several ADR files of people talking. I need to add a filter to make it sound like they are talking outside. Any specific suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Try something like this, adjust to taste:
Note that this will drop the volume of the track substantially, you will need to adjust the clip level after you've applied the effects.

  • Advice on sound card purchase - requires connection to amp

    : Hi there,
I would like to connect a sound card upto my amplifier using RCA to RCA connections and not the easy route people would take using theY connector.
What is the best sound card to use to achieve this?

I know that the SB X-Fi Surround 5. bundles a Y connector as it has stereo RCA jacks. See if it suits you for [email protected].

  • FC 6 and digitech RP 250 sound filter compatibility problem

I just bought a digitech guitar RP 250 muti-effect processor (http://www.digitech.com/multieffects.php), I have downloaded and installed the ad-hoc processor software for this processor (X-edit) which works fine with in my apple computer. However, I also have _Final Cut Pro for Apple that crashes immediately _when opening since I installed the RP250 software. I am sure that is related to the RP250 software because is _at the moment that Final Cut is showing the message "installing sound filters RP250" that the crash takes place_. The problem was also reported by another user (but not solved) in this page: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1410799&tstart=-3
    1. What is the a way to avoid this compatibility problem and allow the two programs to coexist?
    2. I have desinstalled X-Edit 2 and reinstalled final cut, but after that Final cut keeps crashing at the moment of showing "loading audio filters RP 250", suggesting the drivers have not been completely uninstalled(?). This makes the problem extremely serious as I cannot use Final cut at all.
Thanks in advance for your help,

This is the reply I received from Digitech, which actually works!!!
+Our guess is it could only be related to the RP250.component. If you remove this from your plug-ins folder, our guess is it will fix the problem. This could be in one of two locations:+
    +HD/Users/user name/Library/Audio/Plug-ins/Components+
    HD/Library/Audio/Plug-ins/Components
    Regards,
    +Digitech Support+
This still leaves one of my questions open though, how to keep FC and the RP250 soft working together...

  • Pro's: Is my advice correct? Thanks :)

    Hi All,
b Is the advice re fall back into the other partition correct?
Some say the Combo Updater works better than Software Update.
I have partitioned my HD into a large and a small volume. I had 10.4.2 on both and was paranoid about the 10.4.3 upgrade until I figured I would run in "large" and install 10.4.3 in "small". Irrelevant info if no partition I guess.
b If you are partitioned it gives a safety fall back [ I hope ].
    BTW all is joy.

Thanks Thomas, we semi's depend on you level 3s & 4s to keep us going. See my prior "not the sharpest knife in the drawer." self descripter.
So the advice was sound, as far as it went. I absolutely agree with your addition that a bootable additional drive, internal or external is much further protection.
For the sake of others following this, note that an External HD has to be
    b Firewire
    connected,
    b not USB,
    to be bootable.
[OT] My old External Oxford HD from US Logic died w/o much time on it. That's why I paused on the 10.4.3 upgradeÑuntil I realized I had a fallback, short of Internal HD failure.

  • Need help on sound systems to form an ipad band.

We are hoping to set up a school iPad band but we need some advice re sound systems and connectivity.

    Hi,
There is no direct route from SAPscript to adobe forms, you can go from SAPscript to smartforms then from smartforms to adobe forms.
However, the structure of SAPscript and smartforms is very different, so there needs to be a fair amount of manual work after the migration.
It may be easier to build the adobe form from scratch, using the SAPscript as reference.

  • Ridiculously Awesome Sound Recording with Video

Although I was aware that the mic's on the 928 were touted to be better at recording loud music than most other phones out there, I never had a chance to put it to the test.
Last week I was at a small bar and recorded my friends band playing. I was really close to the speakers and they were fairly loud.  I made sure to turn off the sound filter in the recording setting of the video.  Just for comparison, I had my brother record with me on his Razr Maxx. The next morning I played the video back from my phone and plugged in some good earphones.
OMG! No distortion at all!!!  Full clean bass!!!  Full mids and highs!!!  Crisp and Clear!  My brothers sound on his recording was a huge distorted mess! Anyone else have similar experiences?  TI wanna make sure this wasnt just some freak luck with video recording...

First, what is the file format, and its specs. for the remote recorder?
Though the rates of modern cameras and digital recorders SHOULD match 100%, in the real-world, they seldom do. This make perfect syncing a labor intensive process.
One should do tests between the cameras and the recorders, to find out the % or error. Then, adjust their Audio to match first. As an example, one user in the PrPro Forum tested his Panasonic cameras, and his Zoom recorders, and found that the Zooms were off by 0.04% constantly. To correct this, he used the Time Remapping (with Maintain Pitch checked), and would apply that adjustment to all of the Zooms' files - perfect sync.
As for the Waveform not displaying for your remote recorder, did you allow those files to completely Conform (creation of the CFA and PEK files, the latter is the Waveform Display)? See this article: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/726693?tstart=30
Also, you should be able to increase the vertical zoom of your Audio Tracks, and hence any Clips on them, by hovering the Cursor over the junction between Tracks, in the Track Header, and when it turns into a = sign, with up/down arrows, click+drag. Then, you should be able to find commonality in the beginning, to sync up to. Tip: for this critical work, toggle the Snap feature OFF, with the S key.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Loud crackeling noise and barely any sound-Audigy 2zs, Dell Dimension 2

I just installed audigy 2zs into my Dell Dimension 2400 and all Im getting is a loud crackle, like static, out of my center speaker (logitech 5. Thx). There is a faint bit of sound in the background also, and no sound at all from the other speakers. Any suggestions? I think I have all the drivers installed and all the tests have passed. Thx.

I have also had some issues with the sound card popping and cracking. It only happens when I am either playing a cd, DVD or a video game. I have a Compaq Presario 2500 laptop, dvd/dvd-rw dri've Maxtor usb2 external hard dri've, Targus 7 port usb2 router, wireless mouse and keyboard, and finally my Audigy 2 NX sound blaster. Seriously I have tried everything and to no avail. I have even wiped the computer just for kicks. I only had the sound card working properly but it didn?t last. What I did was to uninstall the drivers for the DVD dri've and shut down the computer. After the computer started back up it reinstalled the DVD drivers and I had good quality sound.... or so I thought. About 2 days later the same problem arose and I uninstalled the drivers again but this time it did not fix the problem. I have the windows updated, DVD driver?s updated sound card updates EVERYTHING but I still get the static in the speakers only when I am trying to listen to a cd play a video game or watch a DVD. When you have a 4 thousand dollar sound system connected to your sound card would expect good sound from it. Plus the email technicians have emailed me a million things to do but have those worked? NO! I am starting to think that Creative doesn?t care about its costumers anymore. I have seriously thought about getting a different sound card but I have not. I like my 7. surround sound when I listen to mp3 and watch movies that I have ripped on the computer. Someone please give me some advice this sound card is really trying my patience.

All of a sudden, my iPod Nano no longer moves randomly to the next song, but repeats the same song over and over.  I have to manually "shuffle."  The shuffle indicator does not seem to activate.  Any advice?

but 1st try an restore to factory setting's plug the ipod in to computer and click on the ipod tab click on restore, if its still the same as before it's time for repair check out this web site

  • Mac OS no longer found

I have an iMac, circa 2004, running 10.5. the other day it crashed, and since then has not been able to boot. I get the apple icon and the spinning circle, then after awhile the fan goes crazy, but it never boots.
Today I tried starting off the leopard install discs. it boots, but when I get to the installer, my hard drive is not shown as an option to re-install to. only sees my external hd, which I obviously don't want to use as the destination.
    any advice?

Sounds like you had a harddrive failure. Have you a backup?
You don't want to reinstall, you only want to repair from the DVD, so boot into it and after the language screen, in the menu, top left, under Utilities, select Disk Utility and see what your options are. If DU cannot locate your HD, it may be hosed or you may have some other hardware failure - logic board, etc.
If this does not work, reset PRAM
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
and if that does not work, it's time for a call on Apple for repairs.

  • Has anyone seen this BUG with Time Warp and Dissolve?

I'm doing some real basic slow-mo clips, transitioning with various dissolve wipes. I've come across a problem that is extreemly frustrating! I'm wondering if anyone has insight on a fix or if Adobe does service packs or fixes that I might be able to install.
If you put two clips adjacent to each other on a timeline, apply time warp, set percentage to say 30% of realtime, then apply a dissolve between the clips, clip B, the outclip will play in reverse for a period equal to about 1/3 of the duration of the clip.
This is true scrubbing through the timeline and even rendering.
    VERY ANNOYING!
I'm going to call support tomorrow, but that's not going to help me get my project finished any sooner since this is a critical element in this composition. I've tried the time remapping method, but the frame-blend is no match for the pixel motion of time warp.

    Steve,
I think your post #11 was being sarcastic, but you left a little wiggle room for it not to be. With the sarcastic interpretation, I must add my thoughts:
Here is the link to the Adobe bug report form
. It is important that users who discover bugs with reproducible steps file them - otherwise they don't stand a chance of ever getting fixed. Steven Gotz's advice was sound in this regard.
As to the discussion of workarounds - since this is a User-to-User forum, the best that we as a community can do is help each other out with workarounds, since none of us here have the power to actually fix anything.
The important thing to glean from SG's post is the definite need to file a bug report.

  • Need Help in report

    Hi All,
There is a current funcationality for exporting the value of one entity being selected from a drop down and exporting to excel. This has limited number of records, so excel is able to handle this.
But now the need is to select an option that says "select all entitites", When I try to export this to excel, it just hangs and does nothing. The total number of records is definitely more than 65000 which is the maximum that excel spreadsheet can handle.
Can you please give some options or suggestions on how I can achieve to export this huge number of records to any other format other than excel.
    Will exporting to PDF work?
    Please reply asap.
    Thanks

thanks a lot for your reply.
Cheers.  Although I suspect there was an element of sarcasm in yours.
My advice was sound: if you need help urgently, and you're not getting it here, then it might be an idea to pursue other channels.  And also an urgent issue might need a bit of urgency on your part as well as ours, eh?  An easy way to get something solved urgently is to throw money at it.
    Anyway...
What's the purpose of this export?  Your post is a bit light on detail, so it's difficult to give a sensible answer.
Can you not export the recordset to more than on Excel file?
You could spool it out to a CSV file or something, maybe... CSVs don't have a size limit, obviously.
Or maybe some sort of XML?
It's difficult to be sure, but I really don't see a PDF as a sensible format for exported data..?

  • How do you create a new file in Bridge CS4?

For 12 hours I have been trying to create a new folder in Bridge  I am using the book Adobe Creative Suite 4 Design Premium Digital Classroom.  I am only on step five of "Using folders in Adobe Bridge"(pg. 5) and I cannot get create a new folder to work.  Both the icon in the upper right corner and the file > New folder are ghosted.  Does anyone know what could be going wrong?  I have followed all of the instructions and I have even reinstalled the CS4 Design Premium software.  Anyone?  Bueller, Bueller?
    Thanks for any advice.

It sounds like you are trying to create a folder on a CD, DVD or a drive to which you do not have write permissions…

  • Aperture 1.1 & RAW

Currently I'm not using Aperture 1.1, or 1.0 or at all.
I don't want to spend an extra £350GBP to receive £130 Apple Credits/Vouchers to purchase V1.0 to upgrade through the web to 1.1 or now 1.1.1. As I don't need to bank with Apple. This means that I have still to wait, yet another week, until the Retail Boxed Version 1.1 might be available.
So, in my anticipation I have idled my time away reading about all the problems you guys seem to be having, with what seems to be (aside from the bugs) an amazing piece of software. I wonder why Apple haven't provided all of us Intel Mac owners a key through the web and a download for the application, and send the box out when it's available?
The knock on effect of which, is that instead of purchasing this software and spending my time using it, I'm trying out Lightroom (which incidentally, is nowhere near the mark yet) and reading about all the issues Aperture is presenting, leaving me a little aprehensive about purchasing it.
A large number of posts and coments seem to revole around Aperture operating sluggishly on high spec systems. I think it would make sense for users to add additional details to their personal details, pertaining to their equipment and average RAW file sizes. Maybe include on each post rough number of images in open projects.
Surely this would help each other and anyone on the Aperture Team looking here for user issues? Or is it possible to monitor performance without all the relevant details?

NO NO NO. "Repair permissions" as proscriptive
    medicine is pure voodoo.
This is not the time or place to really get into this...
Sorry, but directing anyone away from this is important enough that any time and place is the time to get into this! I don't know Gruber, but I do know Macs, and Gruber's advice is WRONG (more below).
If you think that Repairing Permissions might be a mistake, this MacFixIt article may enlighten:
    <http://www.macfixit.com/article.php?story=20060413075624652>
I oversee 7 Mac boxes with a wide variety of apps on them including all the apps in Adobe's Premium Creative Suite, Aperture, MS Office, etc. I am absolutely convinced that religiously Repairing Permissions immediately before and after every installation leads to a long term totality of a much more stable box.
Many folks on the Adobe Photoshop Mac Forum, each of us with decades of Mac experience using notoriously difficult apps, will concur with the recommendation to Repair Permissions immediately before any installation of any kind.
Not a scientific sample, but I do note that frequently on various forums when folks are saying some OS/app combination does not work I am responding "that's funny, it works fine for me and I have the same configuration..."
IMO a side benefit is that repairing Permissions twice sort of forces one to think about the installation: Do I really need it? Is it absolutely safe? Where should it go? What else on the box may be affected by the installation? Is there something I should back up first? etc.
Another totally valid MacFixIt recommendation that Gruber falsely called bogus was:
"We recommend the following procedure when installing Mac OS X 10.4.6.: First, avoid performing any other operations (in Mac OS X or third-party applications) while the update process is occurring... Also, disconnect any FireWire/USB devices before applying Mac OS X 10.4.6, then re-connect the devices one by one after the update process is complete and the system has restarted."
Although not all FW devices succumb to a System Update many (including one of mine) have. Similarly many of us have had crashes by getting too impatient and trying to multitask during OS updating. The MacFixIt advice is sound and Gruber is again flat wrong.
