Advice on updating N97.

What's the best procedure for updating an N97 Do I also need to have the latest version of PC Suite or Ovi suite? Do I need those at all? Is the NSU sufficient if I have the latest version? How should I go about it?

If you have a computer that has never been 'tainted' by say the Nokia Suite, or any Ovi beta - feel free to use the Ovi suite - updates and syncing work fine, much better than the old nokia suite. The reason I say fresh is that i've had problems where not eventing seems to get removed from the Ovi betas or the Nokia Suite.
Here is the procedure that works for me:
- Copy everything off your phone (or sync) music, contacts, photos, videos, etc. (if you sync your contacts with say outlook this makes it REALLY easy.
- Install the new firmare
- Flash your phone.
- Set messages to store on 'Mass Storage' right away!
- Copy or Sync everything back.
- Reinstall apps (put them on Mass Storage)
Most people skip the Flashing part as they don't want to loose apps etc. In my opinion unless you want to struggle with your phone and C: space issue forever - just Flash it and get it over with. makes a world of difference. Just do it!

Advice about updating os

I'm hoping that some generous soul will give me a bit of advice about updating the os.
I have a macbook intel core 2 duo 2.16 running osx 10.4.9 I have stayed with this os for the last year or so becuase it was the only one that would run protools. But now safari is having trouble loading some pages and regularly quits unexpectly and things are generally slower.
Would it be a good idea to buy a new version of mac os (like leopard), reformat the machine and start again? if so, is it a straighforward process (like it usually is on a pc)?

One thing to keep in mind, applications and even Operating Systems do not wear out. If they worked at one time they should continue to work under the same circumstances indefinitely. Something may have gotten corrupt and need fixing. Sometimes an update will cover this by virtue of throwing out the corrupted file because that files gets replaced in the update but that does not necessarily happen, depending. It is far better to fix a problem before installing an update, and then it is very smart to have a way to revert to your "pre-update" status should you discover that the update has something that will not work with your setup. It happens often enough.
Updates only add features and maybe fix bugs but they can also add bugs and break things that have worked.

I am assuming you updated to version 5.1.1, not 5.0.1 since no legitimate version of 5.0.1 is available.

Can not updated N97 firmware OTA

I'm currently running firmware 10.0.012 on a UK Vodafone N97, I've tried updating via Device Updates and SW update but the first tells me no updates are available and the second says Refershing Failed, try again later.
Can anyone tell me how to do this without connecting to a PC?

Unfortunately in the UK no updates have been released to th on device updater, which is a real shame.
Your only options are using a PC or get a nokia care point to update it for you (free whilst under warranty).

Unable to update N97 software

I have been trying to update my version 12.0.026 software on my N97 to the 20.0.026. The software updater has recognised the device, downloaded 109.1 MB of the update but then says it's unable to complete it. I start again- it goes back to about 106 MB, downloads up to 109.1 and stops again....
I was unable to do this via OVI suite etiher. ANy suggestions?

I had an issue with an earlier version of NSU and my beloved n95 8 gb that seemes to be the issue you are exploring. First I had issues with my firewall, so i disabled it. Then it downloaded almost the update but stoped right before the finish and went going into some loop-kindofthing. I checked my internetconnection but it seemed ok. As I could see, it looked like an issue with the software. I downloaded an updated version of NSU and everything worked fine. If you are using NSU on W7 you might try out this http://betalabs.nokia.com/apps/nokia-software-updater if this isn't the version you are using. I don't really know the answere to this one.

"Refreshing Failed. Try again Later" is the message am getting when I go to check for updates can anybody explain this to please.

I updated the firmware on my N97 using NSU on the PC.
I think the SW update app you are referring to takes care of updates for apps installed on the phone not the firmware. To update the firmware with over the air updates you need to go into settings > phone > update device (not sure of the exact navigation as I don't have my phone with me). Please note two things: first make sure to backup any data on the phone before doing an firmware update; second, the over the air updates are dependent on your service provider so may not be available yet.

V12 update n97

Hi all having trouble updating my nokia n97 have carried out one update from v10 to v11 this was done lastnight all ok however have seen a new update v12 but when checking my phone with the no. under the battery its says i have the latest update have also tried putting the code *#0000# but this said no updates available i have seen some where that this update could sort out poor reception fault? any help would be great cheers

Alas, a lot of us have this problem.
For some reason that not even Nokia has been able to explain, the new firmware cannot be installed on phones RM-505* phones. They told me that it will be available before sept. first, and that it is a mistake they made when they released the firmware.
*If you run Nokia Software Updater on your PC it will tell you the RM-number on the left of the screen where it tells you which firmware you are currently running. You can also read the product code directly off of you phone - it is hidden behind the battery at starts with 05xxx...

Hi,I was having problems with my N97. Vibration was not working and the GPS never connected to any satalite after updating Nokia Maps. So I got a back up of my data and updated the phone. However the phone does not even start. Only the NOKIA screen with back light appears and it stucks. The same thing happens when I plug in the charger and the led next to the usb (indicating charging) does not light. Throughout Nokia troubleshooting pages I found a topic with that title 'If your phone is not working after a successful update' and under it it is said that 'Return to the beginning of all the steps and start the update procedure from the beginning' but the PC does not see the phone and so Nokia Software Updater does not also. Thus I could not repeate updateting.
The phone is not with me right now. When I get it I will try hard resting but I am not hoping a result. I paid lots of money on this thing and now I am sad and really geting nervous.
Do you have problems with vibration? I read in discussions that some people had their phone's mainboard replaced with a new one at Care Centers to get rid of this problem. This feels really bad that a new device requires a new main board. Really sad for Nokia I think.

Advice on updating to 10.4.7 re:- affect on games and applications

Can anyone advise. Everything running perfectly on my computer at the moment. My daugter however has been trying to load Sims 2 university. ... is not loading and the advice from the game people Aspyr have advised me to upgrade to 10.4.7, and that this will solve my problem. Does anybody have any advice about updating your book description once the book is live?

I made a careless spelling mistake while filling out the metadata for my children’s ebook. Obviously I quickly changed it and resubmitted my “package”. That was four days ago and the spelling mistake is still there in the book description for all the world to see. Does anybody have any suggestions on how to push this through? It really should only be a 30 second fix yet has turned into a complete nightmare. Please help. Thanks.

The description is one of the metadata fields that you cannot update yourself. You need to contact Apple and ask them to make the change for you. Quote the title, Apple ID, and ISBN of the book, and added description of the exact change needed, or complete replacement text for the description.

my phone doesn't work in pc suite mode and the phone software update doesn't detect that there is any update available although i'm running V 12.0.24 !

Just uninstall Nokia PC Suite and reboot your system. Now download the latest version of PC Suite from Nokia website and install it on your computer and again restart your PC. Now connect your mobile in PC Suite mode, it will surely connect.

Sql advice for updating a table.

(I am running Oracle 10g 10.1.0.2.0 on Linux AS3) I am stuck trying to delete a user from a user table when the user has not logged into "a software application" for 90 days. The tables are USER: (userid V2(15), name V2(50),password V2(30),update_date date, password_expire_date date, blocked V2(1)).
Other table is LOCATION_HISTORY: (Location_id Number(3),Userid V2(15),Login_Date Date).
I have a trigger that populates the Location_history table every time someone logs in to the software that populates who,when and where for each login- there are multiple login dates per id.
I need to check if the max(Login_date) is 90 days from the sysdate, and if so then delete the userid from the USER table- because the user has not logged in for 90 days, therefore the account is not "active" enough to keep.
I have an idea how to do it as follows:
delete from user where (select userid, max(login_date) from location_history where max(login_date) = sysdate-90;
But I am wondering if I am getting the logic right. I was going to run this sql as a cron job every night after midnight.
Can you offer me advice to whether I am approaching this from the right angle?

A common reason for the issues is a corrupt update file. To resolve issues if you have Windows, delete the previous update file from the folder:
C:\Documents and Settings{Admin User}\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPhone Software Updates
For Mac Users, Try searching an executable file "iPhone" Once you identify the setup file, you can delete it and proceed further.
Then start iTunes and look for updates for your iPhone. You will be able to download a fresh copy of the update setup file. Try reinstalling the update on to your phone and things should be fine.
