Advice on upgrading R61i from XP to 7 on a dualboot Windows/Ubuntu setup.

I am thinking of upgrading to windows 7 on my R61i. The machine is a dual boot machine and I spend most of my days on the Linux side. Having forgotten all I once knew about windows, I have a few questions about upgrading to windows 7 and if anyone could answer/suggest it would be greatly appreciated.
I would plan to do a fresh install of windows 7, by the way, not an "upgrade" (if that is even if possible). So...
0) is an R61i with 2 Gb ram reasonable for Windows 7? i'd rather have a snappier older (XP) system than a slow as molasses newer (W7) system. Wondering what experience people have had with W7 on systems like mine, ie not state of the art.
1) Does windows 7 play well with other OS'es? Will it respect bootloaders, etc? Any gotcha's I should be aware of?
2) To what extent would the features of the R61i still work if I purchase a generic retail version of Windows 7? I realize that I won't automatically have things like Thinkvantage, but will all the devices/hardware still be functional w/o a "lenovo" version of the OS? I've never reinstalled a windows OS on a laptop, so I'm worried to what extent the laptop needs some tweaked version rather than a generic retail version for all hardware to be fully functional.
3) Given I'd be dumping XP, would it make sense to remove and recover the partition that was allocated for system backup (which I've never used? Seems like I could make better use of those 8-ish GB of disk space...

I'll take a shot at some of this.
0) Don't know. It runs OK on my 3G T61. Google, maybe?
1) I multi-boot WIn 7 with several Linux and a couple of Solaris installs, so it can be done.
WIn 7 likes to use 2 partitions when installed on a clean drive. I _think_ that can be made to work OK with grub but haven't tested it. I create my partitions first (NTFS and 3 dummy paritions as place holders in the partition tables). That way '7 will install into a single partition. May not be necessary, but seems easier to me.
My favorite configuration is NTFS, FAT32 scratch partition accessible (easily) from both OSs, then an extended partition w/your choice of logicals for Linux. I personally like to put grub in my FAT32 partition so I can swap other OSs w/out tweaking the boot loader, but that's probably overkill for your situation.
2) Go ahead and install Win 7, then install ThinkVantage System Update and let that pull down all the Lenovo stuff. You can pick and choose what you want it to install.
3) The R&R partition won't work after a vanilla Win 7 install or after manipulating the partitions to install Linux. Burn your Product Recovery Media, and maybe save an "as configured" backup somewhere, and blow away all the partitions.
Maybe that helps a little. Just my angle on the thing. Others may have other suggestions.

Advice Needed: Upgrade Path from ZCM 11.0 to 11.2

We are currently running 3 primary ZCM servers at 11.0. The database server is running Server 2003 and SQL 2005, the reporting server is running Server 2003, and the content repository server that we use for imaging is Server 2008 R2. We are looking to upgrade to ZCM 11.2. We want to move the database to a stand alone SQL server running Server 2008 and SQL 2008 R2. I also want to upgrade the environment to have the OS at Server 2008R2. What is the best way to go about this?
This is what is being discussed. Moving the SQL Server first. Upgrading ZCM to 11.2 on all servers. Bringing up a new server running 2008r2 and zcm 11.2 and setting it as Primary. Then retiring the two 2003 servers. Does this make sense? ALso needs to be done before August 1st so any advice would be helpful.

Slow GPIB performance after upgrading GPIB from 1.7 to 2.6 in Windows XP

We have bought several GPIB cards and installed driver 2.6, and I also installed the driver on my computer too. After installation, I got some questions:
1. After installation, under the path folder "C:\Program Files\National Instruments\Shared\ExternalCompilerSupport\C", there are three subfolders: include, lib32, and lib64.
    1) What is the difference between ni488.h, and ni4882.h? In my software, I choose include "decl-32.h", but I can also choose include "ni4882.h", right?
    2) Under the path folder "C:\Program Files\National Instruments\Shared\ExternalCompilerSupport\C\lib32\msvc", there are two lib files "gpib-32.lib" and "ni4882.lib". Is there any
        difference for user between these two lib files?
    3) How about lib32 and lib64?
2. Is the GPIB 2.6 compatible with its former version, V1.7, V2.4, and V2.5?
3. Why did our system become much slower after we change the GPIB card from driver 1.7 to driver 2.6 in Windows XP? Even after I changed the GPIB related lib and include files?
BTW, our lab PC is Optiplex 760, Core 2 Duo Dell E7500/2.93GHz, 3M, 1066MHz, FSB, with Windows XP SP3.
Can we make the timeout to be 0? how?

Actually it is not the GPIB driver version issue, and the issue becomes:

After upgrading ACS 3.3.1 to 4.2 on windows the local database is not working

I have upgaded the ACS 3.3.1 for windows server to 4.2. Everything went fine but the local database is not working.
The CD is an upgrade kit from 3.x to 4.2 on windows. I tried to install directly the 4.2 I was able to install but integration with AD/LDAp is not working. Anysay its an upgrade kit so I cant expect it shoud work when install drectly the 4.2 but by upgrading from 3.3 to 4.2 everything should work fine.
I followed the upgradation path as recomended.
Also we have a requirment that once it is upgraded to 4.2 we need to shift the whole thing from the physical server to a virtual machine on VMware ESX server 3.5.
Can anybody pls guide me if anything else to do after the upgradation.

First of all I was facing a problem of restoring the old database of 3.3 to 4.2. Somehow I overcame that issue by following the below steps. Now local authentication is working fine but AD/other External database authentication is not working. As you told the setting for the unknown users are configured to fetch the credentials from the external database if it is not in the local database.
Do we need to do anything in the AD itself?

Steps for ACS upgrade to 4.2 version
Below are the requested steps mentioned for the up gradation from ACS 3.3.2 to ACS 4.2.
        1)     Take a configuration backup from existing ACS. ACS--->System
configuration----> ACS Backup
2)    now if you have ACS 3.3.2 on server. take backup of the ACS
3)   Insert the cd or if you have the set up on the system then Run the setup of ACS 3.3.4. During the process it will prompt you to
upgrade existing configuration. Make sure you check that option else we will
loose the database. Now you need to hit next.next to finish the 3.3.4 upgrade.
4)     Once you are at 3.3.4, take a backup and keep it handy.
5)     Run the setup of 4.1.1. During this process it will prompt you to
upgrade existing configuration. Make sure you check that option else we will
loose the database. Now you need to hit next.next to finish the 4.1 upgrade.
6)Once you are at 4.1.1.24 take a backup and keep it handy.
7)     Run the setup of 4.2. During this process it will prompt you to
upgrade existing configuration. Make sure you check that option else we will
loose the database. Now you need to hit next.next to finish the 4.2 upgrade.
8)     Once you are at 4.2 take a backup and keep it handy. Now run the
patch 12 and take a backup again.
9)     Now fresh install 4.2 on your new production server and install patch
12. Restore the 4.2 patch 12 backup and you should be all set.

To reimage the application partition, follow these steps:
Step 1 Obtain the application partition file from Software Center on Cisco.com and copy
it to an FTP server.
Step 2 Log in to the switch CLI.
Step 3 Boot the IDSM-2 to the maintenance partition:
cat6k> (enable) reset module_number cf:1
Step 4 Log in to the maintenance partition CLI:

Password: cisco
Step 5 Reimage the application partition:

IF NOT, THEN IS THERE A SHORT CUT FROM 4.1 to 5.1 ?

Just wanted to clarify some things.
As Scott has already confirmed you can re-image using the method described and following Scott's advice on what additional updates to install.
BUT understand that any configuration you have your 4.1 sensor will be lost during that method of re-imaging to 5.1.
Another alternative is to first upgrade from 4.1(5)S225 to 5.0(1), and then to upgrade to 5.1(1).
The upgrade to 5.0(1) will convert the 4.1 configuration into a compatible 5.0 format.
I saw another post you made implying that you had to downgrade back to 4.1(5)S189 to do the 5.0(1) upgrade. This is not the case. You can upgrade directly from your current 4.1(5)S225 to 5.0(1).
You can install the IPS-K9-maj-5.0-1-S149.rpm.pkg file directly on your current 4.1(5)S225 sensor.
When S225 was installed on your 4.1(5) sensor, it also placed in storage the corresponding S225 update for your 5.0 sensor.
So when IPS-K9-maj-5.0-1-S149.rpm.pkg is installed on the sensor it will detect that stored off S225 for 5.0 and install it at the same time.
So once installed you will be immediately at 5.0(1)S225.
Once at 5.0(1)S225, then you can upgrade directly to 5.1(1) using the IPS-K9-min-5.1-1d.pkg upgrade.
(NOTE: 5.1-1d file was created to fix some upgrade bugs, but still installs the same 5.1(1) files as the original 5.1(1) upgrade package).
So you will wind up at 5.1(1)S225.
Now at this point I would recommend installing at least one later signature update (S226 or higher in your case) BEFORE installing the 5.1(1p1) patch.
And AFTER the signature update, then install the 5.1(1p1) Engineering Patch (contact the TAC for this patch).
Because of this specific upgrade path, the best way to avoid some issues is to install at least one signature update before installing the 5.1(1p1) patch. The signature update helps to ensure the sensor is ready for the 5.1(1p1) upgrade. Some of the files needed for the 5.1(1p1) upgrade have been seen to not get carried forward properly in the upgrade from 5.0(1) to 5.1(1), but a signature update corrects those issues.
NOTE: This precaution of installing the signature update BEFORE the 5.1(1p1) is only needed when upgrading from 5.0(1) to 5.1(1). If imaging directly to 5.1(1) using the maintenance partition, then the 5.1(1p1) can be installed before a signature update without an issue.
Once 5.1(1p1) is up and running and monitoring packets and generating alarms, then additional signature updates can be installed afterwards.

You may need to delete your current iPhoto from the Applications folder, if it is a version of iPhoto '11, before the App Store will allow you to download it from the main page.

Yes if you are updating one component, it is best to upgrade everything to be in sync. While it is possible to upgrade parts, its better to do the whole thing

Upgrade R3 from 4.6 to ECC5.0 and BW from 3.3 to 3.5 (Netweaver 04)

We are looking at upgrading R3 to ECC5.0 and upgrading BW from 3.3 to 3.5 using NetWeaver 04.
We would like to know if there are any dependencies here and if we do each upgrade in isolation what the likely impacts are.
So, if we upgrade the R3 side first what will we need to do to ensure that BW remains operational and vice versa if we upgrade BW first what will happen on the R/3 side?
Which route would be prove to be more cost effective - in terms of time and resource usage? Will work need to be repeated, etc ....

Almost certainly none of the above! Try each of the following in this order:
Select 'Reset Safari' from the Safari menu.
Close down Safari; move <home>/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db to the trash; restart Safari.
Change the DNS servers in your network settings to use the OpenDNS servers: 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220
Turn off DNS pre-fetching by entering the following command in Terminal and restarting Safari:
defaults write com.apple.safari WebKitDNSPrefetchingEnabled -boolean false

Assuming you see the above error message in the alert log file, which was your original post, follow the below steps:
1 Get the 'ospid' value from the error
2. Issue the below command:
SQL> select request_id,ORACLE_PROCESS_ID
2 from fnd_concurrent_requests
3 where request_id = 15598;
3. After obtaining the request_id
4, Query it from the front-end using SYSADMIN responsibility
Hopefully this should get you the respective concurrent report/program.

Unable to Sign in analytics After Upgraded obiee from 10g to 11g

I have problem when upgrading catalog from 10g to 11g.
The error is:" Unable to Sign In . An invalid User Name or Password was entered. "
I upgraded following the steps like this:
1.Login EM and check BI server is running successfully.
2.Started the UA.bat.
Select the operation:Upgrade Oracle BI RPD and Web Catalog.
Step by Step,and the upgrade completed successfully.
3.Open the RPD online using the Admintool succefully.
4.But when I Login the BI and view the dashboard with the 10g's user (Administrator),the page appear the error "*Unable to Sign In . An invalid User Name or Password was entered.* "
5.Then I Try to Regenerating User GUIDs
1. Update the FMW_UPDATE_ROLE_AND_USER_REF_GUIDS parameter in NQSConfig.INI:
a. Open NQSConfig.INI for editing at:
b. ORACLE_INSTANCE/config/OracleBIServerComponent/coreapplication_obisn
c. Locate the FMW_UPDATE_ROLE_AND_USER_REF_GUIDS parameter and set it to YES, as follows:
d. FMW_UPDATE_ROLE_AND_USER_REF_GUIDS = YES;
e. Save and close the file.
2. Update the Catalog element in instanceconfig.xml:
a. Open instanceconfig.xml for editing at:

d. Locate the Catalog element and update it as follows:

if your using oracle db please make sure your db settings and tnsnames.oRA settings
also try you please try below troubleshooting steps:
1) please check latest error message and find the root cause,
presentation catalog log path:
obiee installed Drive:\Oracle\Middleware\instances\instance1\diagnostics\logs\OracleBIPresentationServicesComponent\coreapplication_obips1\sawlog0.txt file
also check it nqserver.log file
oracle bi server log path ref:
obiee installed Drive:\Oracle\Middleware\instances\instance1\diagnostics\logs\OracleBIServerComponent\coreapplication_obis1\nqserver.log
2)can you try to login RPD,EM and console by using your weblogic a/c then try to login with some other user.
if its not working then try to delete that users from catlog and check it Check OPMN services are running state.

Can I upgrade directly from ColdFusion 9 Enterprise to ColdFusion 11 Enterprise without going to 10 first?
For those who have done this,
1. What quirks did you find that you had to overcome in your installation (I know that everyone's environment is different and produces differest results)?
2. What part of your code broke for which you had to find fixes?

Create a car (archive file) in CF 9 enterprise which will capture all CF 9 settings like Data sources, Web services etc. Make sure when you are doing this, pop up blocker is disabled.
NOTE : While creating the archive file, give the full name with the absolute path in the package name. For example C:\Test\mypackage.car
Then move this car file into the server where you want to install CF 11. Install CF 11 and then deploy this archive (car) file. All CF 9 settings will be migrated to CF 11 enterprise.
Else, if you want to install CF 11 on the same server where CF 11 is installed, then remove the connector for all the websites which are configured with CF 9, make sure the CF 9 services are running and then run the CF 11 installer and at the end of CF 11 installation, you will get a dialogue box which will ask you to migrate CF 9 settings in CF 11.
Run the Code Analyzer in CF 11 Administrator to check whether any the CF 9 code used in your application is breaking in CF 11 or not

R12 Upgrade Report from 11i Getting Error

We are currently working an R12 upgrade project from 11.5.10 to 12.1.3. I am currently converting a report from 11i to R12 but it is erroring out when I run it in R12. Below is the log. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

It looks as though its failing in your beforereport trigger.

REP-1419: 'beforereport': PL/SQL program aborted.I dont believe payment batches are used anymore as they need to be done via Payment profiles and therefore you will need to use Payment Instruction ids instead. Also the setup at R12 is Mosaic
try including this. as the first statement in the Beforereport trigger. All the banks tables payment tables has changed so unless you have changed these to you will need to adjust these correctly to the R12 tables.
