Advice please from the Experts

advice on all of this would be of great help, so please bear with me.
Hoping to buy a nice new Mac Pro, the Two 2.8Ghz Quad-Core Intel Xeon model for work.
It would be mainly used in editing video, sound recordings including Powerpoint with voice/video, all for Podcasting via iTunes. At present it takes forever to render a video clip down, say from 1.5Gb to something like 100Mb using Quicktime Pro', making it small enough for iTunes on my old G4 or even my Macbook.
A couple of questions for you guys ( the experts ).
Forget memory, that's a no brainer, the more the better I know that part. What i need advice on is this:
1) Graphics card :- do I go for the 2 x ATI Radeon 2600XT or the NVIDIA GeForce 8800GT ?
( read several discussions about the XT or the GT, some for one, others for the other )
2) Hard Drive :- I want speed, so do I go for the 300Gb SAS or should I stay with the standard HD !
( I know that the SAS is smaller in size, but....... advice please )
I hope someone ( or even more ) can come up with some sound advice please. My gut feeling is go for the SAS but unsure about which GC to use.
Oh before anyone does ask me, I will be getting the 20in Apple display too.

SAS and Mac Pro RAID are discussed (threads should be easy to Google) and based on Barefeats, and huge price jump, nearly $2000 extra, no.

Use 1TB drives are excellent for most and have gained speed and popularity.
Again, all of these are reviewed on Barefeats or look at StorageReview, though bare in mind drives perform different under Windows than on OS X.
So I am still partial to low latency Raptor.

It depends on fact that when you want to create the incentive.
If you want to create at the time of invoicing, then you have to enhance event R402.
If you want to create at the time of payment, the you have to enhance event 0032.

Information need from the experts

Hi guys,
I am a new mac user. I haven't tried to use mail neither the address book but I would like to know what are the benefits of using it compare to Entourage.
I would like to keep using: rules, hyperlink (something entourage doesn't have), create subfolder and most importantly create my pop account. Is mail capable of doing so?
On the address book side, I would like to create groups, to be able to enter different information such as fax, home phone number, work phone number and so forth
Also I am interested on using the calendar, does it interact with mail and the address book? Can you select your contacts from the address book when creating a meeting? Can you email meetings using mail?
Please, provide any good feedback you might have.

Your computer came with a User Guide and an Introduction to OS X. There's also Mac Help available from the Finder's Help menu and each application has it's own individual Help menu. These are good places to start learning about Mail, Address Book, and iCal as well as iSync.

Need "accounts" help from the experts here

Sometime ago I screw up my original account. In the process, I created a new account and somehow deleted the original one. I have some ideas on how I accomplished such thing, but it's a long story that has resulted on the following: My account name is "R. deFernandez" (made up name, of course), but the Home's icon in the Finder (the "house" icon) is not my present account, but the original one.
Also, if I open "Accounts" in the System Preferences, only one account (Admin) is listed, and this is my present account, not the original. If I open the Macintosh HD on the Desktop, and then the Accounts folder, only the original account, not my present account is shown.
Now, this information I am about to tell you may be of benefit to some: trying to update Office 2004, and also MS Messenger results on the following warning: "Warning. The following disk images failed to mount. Image: office2004-1123Update. Reason: invalid checksum."
I have unsuccessfully tried to update both applications with the help of both Apple technicians and Mactopia, and just today I realized that both updaters can't update the applications mentioned, simply because their respective installers follow the path through the original account. Sooo, whatever you do, don't mess around with the original account's name (the first admin. account created on your hard drive).
Now, here is where I am asking you for help: is there a way where I can reinstall Mac OS 10.4 without erasing the hard drive, AND so when I start the iMac I can use the Set-Up Assistant to create a new (virgin) account?

Open the NetInfo Manager in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder, locate your account in the list of users, and change the last part of its home property to match the desired setting; if you aren't sure which account is yours, look for one with a numeric UID of 501 or above. Don't delete or alter any other accounts, groups, or properties. Next, open the Users folder in the Finder and change the name of the item in the home folder to match what you entered in the NetInfo Manager. When you've done this, log out and back in; if this procedure was successful, your home icon will be the present name of your account. If not, you will have a brand new home folder and can migrate your data from the old one.
An account's name and home properties can be changed independently from each other, and a home folder does not need to be in /Users/.

Please help Update me after a 2 year COMA - Crash Course from the experts!

I basically have been in a COMA for the past 2+ years and in 2006 was part of an Elite group of Tech Support - Research and Review team that also served as "Crash Test Dummies" for Mac and various related software, Quark, Adobe, InDesign. Then I went 'brain dead' and the company I worked for and collegues are scattered.
I was know as an Excel Goddess. I was up on the latest "known issues" related to MAC/PC converted files and could save many others wasted time trying to work around a 'known issue'.
I'm going back to college for an Associates Degree for Computer Information Technology to go along with the 25 years experience I have - I started at NCR in '79 when mainframes were the size of refridgerators. I grew up with computers - the languages - glitches and software pms unknown promlems.
I have a iMac G3 with AppleWorks 6.4 I believe. From what research I have done it seems the brilliant idea of BootCamp/Conversion via parrarells was a waste of time for a lot of IT people.
My Question is this - would I be doing ok purchasing a refurbished Mac [AIR?] with wireless / bluetooth included and should I forget about AppleWorks/MS Office and just get the iWork09 and kinda relearn the tricks and tips from reading?

iWork is a fairly decent medium power collection of tools. But in the professional and academic worlds the MS Office collection is king of the hill. This will become especially true when exchanging files and data. If Excel is used in classes, then there is no acceptable substitute.
I spent 40 years in business and academia so I'm not mistaken in the recommendation. iWorks is simply not a substitute for Office. Since the OP is planning on returning to college he/she should have the tools that colleges and universities use almost 100%.

i just both the logic pro upgrade from logic express and I have a g5 and g4 can somboody help my to use the node sistem to put them together. i am in mexico and is not easy to find that kind of help, i dont have a clear idea because the manual instructions are not clear enough how to install the node sistem, they send you to on line help... welll thank you verry much

This is not strictly true... The G4 will work as a Node, though the benefit of it will be minimised.
It wirks pretty simply and you won't do any harm (especially your wallet), giving it a try.
Make sure you install the equivalent version (extremely important) of the Logic Node application on your G4 and run it.
Launch Logic on your G5, open preferences/ Audio / Nodes. Provided you have your computers networked correctly (I am assuming you have done this), the Node computer will be listed there. You can then activate it, if listed.
Assigning a track to a Node is done in the arrange window (view / Node buttons, needs to be enabled) .. Click the Node button and voila!!
It is important to note that only Logic plugins (with the exception of EXS24 and, I think, Ultrabeat) can be processed by a Node.

Yeah, I see this all the time.
Sodium street lamps are not flat-spectrum (why not? Don't they know people are shooting video?) And you get this illuminant error.
So.... white balance isn't going to work, is it? Those highlight streetlamp are already clipped out to R=G=B, aren't they? Black balance is probably right, too, because R=G=B=0 down there. What does that leave?
Mids. You can probably push a lot of cyan-blue into the mids. If you find this contaminates the blacks too much, then the fall-back might be go into secondaries and do an H-S qualified matte, and give the blue-cyan vector a big push.
What, you mean this isn't a suspect running away from an arson? Could be correct in the right context, is all I'm sayin'.

Key Figure values in the Bex Report are different from the cube

Hi all,
When I tried to pull data of the cube, the values of the Key Figure 0Lotsize_cm was showing 100 EA. But when I try to run the query of the cube, then the key figure is LotSize is showing up as 500 EA. I don't understand why this is happening.
When I checked for Aggregation in the Key Figure. It shows up as "Sum" under aggregation and "Last Value" under Exception aggregation.
Could some one help me find a solution to this issue.

Arun, I do not have any aggregates on the cube. I changed the aggregate properties of the Key Figure from SUM to Minimum. this has solved my problem temporarily.
the reason I am saying temporarily because this is a SAP delivered InfoObject. This is for the datasource 0CO_PC_PCP_01. When I read through the documents, it said, SUMMation for Aggregation and Last value for "Exception Aggregation" will display the value of KF as the last value and does not add them up.
Since this wasn't the happening in my query, I changed the Aggregation from SUM to Minimum.

Question for the experts on Video problem

We are away on holidays but didn't want to miss this opportunity to ask for help from the experts. I'm not sure if I have a problem with my motherboard or video card or both. I posted the problem previously but here it is again.
I have an HPE-250f HP desktop computer which has worked well although has not had a lot of use. Shortly after purchasing it I got a real deal on a 17" i7 laptop which has been used much more than the desktop. Yesterday numerous Windows updates were installed and a couple of reboots to complete the installations. On occasion in the past Windows updates have caused issues but am sure they are not the cause of the current problem.
Upon turning on the computer yesterday it sounded like an airplane taking off so pulled the side cover off and it was the fan on the video adaptor that was making all of the noise. I have never heard it anywhere near that loud in the past even when under very heavy usage. In addition there was no video signal so my first thought was the adaptor had died. I took the adaptor out and reinstalled it to make sure it was seated properly however no change. I took the adaptor out again and then uncapped the VGA and DVI connectors that are on the rear of the computer but I did not get a video signal from either of those two outlets either. I don't know whether those ports are enabled on the motherboard or in the BIOS as this computer came with an upgraded video card. Either way there was no video. I have another low end video card here that I don't think was ever used so installed it and again no video. The hard drive seems to be making the normal sounds you would hear when it is booting but again with no video can't really say what is going on.
I am sort of out of ideas as to what to try next as without video you can't see if there are any error messages coming up, whether it is trying to boot or is actually loading Windows.
I don't want to scrap the computer and I guess an option would be to try and find the same motherboard and replace it but I am hoping someone may have some suggestions as to whether there should be video from the built in ports that come capped from the factory. It just seems odd that there is no video from the original card, the built in ports, or a different video card. It is also odd the original video card fan funs flat out when you turn the computer on before it even starts to get warm. If there is a problem with the slot the card goes in one would think the built in ports would still have video but that is assuming they are actually enabled but again don't know if they would be.
If anyone has any suggestions or if anyone knows a reliable place to buy the same motherboard that is in this computer I would appreciate that information.

Finally back from vacation and took a bit of time to get caught up from vacation. It appears somehow two threads got started so will continue on with this one as there is more activity here. There is no video from the original video card reinstalled in the computer. There is also no video on either of the integrated ports after removing the caps and removing the battery, and tried two different monitors just to be sure. I have a friend with the same computer and he said there is no setting in the CMOS/BIOS to enable the onboard video so don't know if it has been permanently disabled or not but again no video from either of the integrated ports. Also If there is a speaker on this computer they have done a very good job of hiding it and i have never heard it beep in all the time i have owned it. I know at this link under INTERNAL CONNECTORS it mentions a speaker connection. I would install a speaker for the purpose of troubleshooting but I cannot find a reference anywhere that says which pins are for a speaker so if anyone would know where to find this information I would gladly install a speaker so we could troubleshoot further. http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-Pavilion-Elite-HPE-Desktop-PC-series/4162190/model/4262654/document/c02014355 It is certainly a possibility that one of the updates caused an issue but it would be surprising as these were updates to Windows and not the BIOS, so one would think if the update was causing an issue it would be after the POST and when it was about to start loading Windows. I will try the suggestions listed above to the extent I can without a speaker connected but it would be great if someone can post a manual for the motherboard that mentions which pins or header has the speaker connections so I can install a speaker. I just heard back from my friend that has the exact same conputer and his has no audible beep when it starts either and am sure there is simply no internal speaker on this computer. Thank you

I bought Aperture from the App store & now it wants to charge me again.

I bought Aperture from the App store 2 years ago. I have now bought a Macbook pro but when I go back to the App store it wants to charge me £53 again. According to the rules I'm supposed to be able to use it on more than one machine. Any advice?

From the Mac App Store, click on the Purchases tab at the top, sign into the account that you used to purchase Aperture, then it should show up as available to download.

Is there a way to abort transformation from an Expert Routine?

I need to abort processing on a load if a certian condition is hit. I have figured out how to populate the monitor entries from the expert routine, but not how to halt execution. The effect I'm looking for is the same as raising exception CX_RSROUT_ABORT in a start or end routine.

I found Note 1227667 - Guidelines for expert routine: Design rules which shows method CALL METHOD cl_rstran_expert_rout_srv=>send_message
Unfortunalty you must be at Support package 18 or use note Note 1165167 - Message interface for expert routine to expose the feature.
This can be used to send a message to the DTP monitor. I have not been able to test it to see if it will actually abort or not.

I want to use NB 5 beta, and mobility pack.
My problem:
If I bulid a project (for example the auto generated simple HelloWorld MIDlet) the build is succesfull.
If I want to run, the emulator of the integrated wtk starts (DefultColorPhone), and after a secund shut down. The error message:

You should take it to an Apple store or an AASP (Authorized Apple Service Provider) Carefully inspect the hinge joint and make sure there is no debris that you can see, you can try carefully sliding some sticky tape thru the joint to clear any loose stuff out. But this sounds like there might be more going on here, and the hinge is something that you do not want to fool with.
