Advice: Please recomend set up for viewing HD Qaulity videos on 50"  Plasma

I use FCE to make movies with my Sony HDR12. (AVCHD) I want to be able to export these as dvd's to give to family. But more importantly want to watch in best HD quality on my TV. I can hook up up my mackbook pro to the TV with HDMI adpater (plan on getting Mac Mini)
What are the best export formats to do this? And waht player is best to use? (have expiremented with boxee, plex, xbmc (they don't do quick time)
Looking for total solution suggestions. Thx

I've tried QT player and direct connect (before Snow Leopard), QT movie and h.264 outputs (.mov files). The picture was great, but there was an occasional judder. It may not be the case with Snow Leopard, because they use hardware acceleration with certain iMacs and display adapters, so the judder might be gone, I am not sure. Otherwise the diplay was very good. I tried MacMini (the generation before last) with Leopard, and it really couldn't keep up, lot of judder. Again, with the latest generation H/W and with the Snow Leopard, it may not be an issue. I finally resorted to network (Gbit ethernet) attached PS3, to which I originally spooled from my iMac (I now use IOmega network attached drive, so that I can use the iMac for other things or turn it off), or play Toast burned BD's (I don't play video games). It works great, picture quality is really good on 82" TV. For direct play, after edit, I perform QT export to h.264 format and keep the full resolution and best output quality (I set dual path through, etc.). BTW, hardly none of the picture quality issues show on smaller screen (I have Samsung 26" secondary monitor attached and don't see many of the problems). The big screen reveals more of the imperfections. 50" may not reveal as many of them, I am not sure. I hope this helps.

  • Cannot preview filetype please download the file for viewing and garbled text on a downloaded image

    Dear Madam or Sir,
When I click on a file titled "Subject Access Request Letter re Account Number 12527629 Sort Code 60-10-34 24022015.pdf", which is stored in my Account on Acrobat.com I get the response "Cannot preview filetype please download the file for viewing". This file was created from an OpenOffice .odt document of the same title. Please advise.
I downloaded an image, which purports to be a .pdf, from the Royal Mail Track & Trace web facility using my Samsung S5. The text that I expect to see might as well be hieroglyphics for all its similarity to text. Please advise.
    Regards,
    Ron Platt
PS I have tried to attach both files (.pdf) but am advised "That image type is forbidden". Please advise.

    Hi Laura,
I have found the solution to be:
       1. Not to upload to "Document Cloud" from the .pdf stored on my PC and
       open on screen.
       2. To login to Acrobat.com from the .pdf stored on my PC and open on
screen, select "Document Cloud" and the sub-folder required and then upload
       the file
I have a feeling that there is a glitch somewhere, because after I have
opened a number of .pdf files stored on my PC, and irrespective of whether
I have closed them prior to opening the next .pdf file or left them open,
Acrobat Reader will display (Not responding) in the window title bar. The
"number of files" equates to less than 10. I, then, click on the X at the
right of the window title bar and I am given the option of "Close the
program" or "Wait until the program responds" (or words to that effect). If
i choose the latter, nothing happens and I am back at the unhappy status
quo. If I choose the former, I am told that Windows is searching for a
solution, which it never finds. I, then, have to shut down the PC and then
start it up, again. Clicking "Restart" does not solve the problem.
I have described the above before and received the usual "it cannot be
Acrobat, it is perfect" response. I could, I suppose, screenshot/snip every
sequential screen but why should I have to when I have described the
sequence as fully as I can. So I have found a "workaround" that does not
solve the "Not responding" problem but does solve the problem of not being
able to upload from the open .pdf file to the sub-folder in "Document
Cloud". I am, on occasion, working through the myriad of .pdf files that
are in the root folder of "Document Cloud" and putting them in the correct
    sub-folder(s).
I have today read that Google is starting a cellphone service in the USA in
which a monthly "access" rental (US$20) is paid plus a GB capacity usage is
elected for at a rate specified, e.g. US$10.00/GB. If the subscriber  does
not use the elected GB capacity Google refunds the US$value of the unused
    elected GB capacity.
Suggestion: Adobe applies that kind of policy to its online software
package usage rates, e.g. I elect to subscribe to a particular level of
online software package usage monthly, but, if I do not use all of the
programs included in that online software usage package, I am credited back
for not having used the softwares, that I did not use, that were inclusive
in that online software package offer.

  • Best practice for viewing short home videos on AppleTV?

Please help me find a simple way to view short home videos taken on a digital video camera, photo camera or cell phone on my Apple TV.
I've been using AppleTV to showcase my photos for a couple months now, but all the short little videos I take along the way have been gathering dust in a general folder. None of them are significant enough to warrant building a full on iMovie, and all are in Nikon's AVI format. To date I have about 300 of them, hoping that one day they won't just gather dust.
As I understand it these are the recommended steps that Apple encourages:
    1) Import movies from camera onto hard disk (Aperture prompts me to do this when I import photos)
    2) Import all movies into iMovie
    3) Export for AppleTV (creating new projects for each video, individually!)
    4) Import into iTunes
    5) Sync with AppleTV
This is awful. For comparison, here is my current workflow for photos to get them to show on AppleTV...
    1) Import photos into Aperture.
Assuming iTunes is already running (and it mostly is), there's not even a step two. iTunes is set up to sync a "Recent Import" smart album from Aperture to AppleTV so everything else is behind the scenes. A few seconds after importing I'm viewing new photos on my AppleTV.
Since AppleTV is actually built for video, I'm hoping for a revised workflow that can showcase my movies as quickly as it does photos.
I'm currently not running a hacked version of the AppleTV OS, but would consider it if it simplifies the process. Automator workflows, Finder Folder Actions, and AppleScripts are also fair game.

Thanks pvonk. I get that video is more complex than photos, but Apple still wrote its photo applications to accept all sorts of photo file types (even the many proprietary RAW formats). So I don't think it's crazy to question why this workflow isn't easier for video. Especially when Apple is the biggest champion of integrated video solutions.
Right now, here's my best guess at a workable solution. Care to weigh in?
    Setup:
    1) Attach a folder action to a folder (let's say ~/Movies/Imported/)
    2) Folder-Action runs shell script that converts videos to mp4 via HandBrake's command line tool
    3) Shell script triggers another folder action upon HandBrake completion to pushes the completed file to a new folder (let's say ~/Movies/Converted/)
    4) "Converted" folder action to import to iTunes (perhaps Applescript? Automator?)
~ if one could automatically add a meta tag (let's say "AppleTV") they could be added to a smart album on iTunes that is set up to sync with AppleTV
    *Workflow after Setup:*
    1) Import all movies to a folder (~/Movies/Imported/)
Does this sound about right? My shell scripting skills are less than adequate for this, so if there is a way to accomplish this with AppleScript, that'd be ideal.
Any other suggestions to simplify the workflow? The setup here still seems overly complex for a normal user. I can't imagine the folks at Apple really excited about the hurdles involved in this either, so I hope that they're working out a solution already.

  • Setting resolution for viewing TV and movies on HDTV?

Last night I played around with watching Apple TV through iTunes using my MacBook Pro and 1080p TV. Conncection is made via a DVI to HDMI cable, with a separate mini-plug to RCA cable from the headphone output for audio. I can open Preferences on the Mac and set the resolution for the TV, but there is no 1080 option (1920 X 1080). The video card should support external monitor resolutions up to 2560 by 1600 pixels but I only see resolution options (for both the built in and HDTV) up to 1440 by 900 (native for the Mac's display).
The TV is recognized by the Mac, but the resolutions available are identical between the two, and changing resolution on one changes it on both.
Suggestions on which resolution to use? Or how to "unlock" the higher resolutions to get to 1920 by 1080?
    Thanks!

  • After upgrading to OS 7.1.1 Maps no longer works correctly.  It is constantly "locating" and does not do real time updating.  Tried "Scout" map app it does the same thing.  Do I have something not properly set up for viewing Maps the way I used top?

After upgrading my iphone 4s to 7.1.1 the Maps application does not work properly.  It updates very slowly and is constantly "locating".  Why is this happening after the upgrade?  I also tried SCOUT App it is does the same thing.  It seems like it is losing the GPS position.  Is there a fix for this?

Any change after turning Airplane mode off and on and/or or after turning Location Services off and back on?
If not, any change after doing a reset which is similar to a computer restart and is done by pressing and holding the home button and the sleep/wake or on/off button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo and then release?

  • Advice please - 2010 MacBook Air for net only?

I need to purchase a Mac for someone. The use will be for accessing the internet only, browser based email etc. It will need ethernet and a usb port for a printer. I assume I can use a USB>Ethernet adapter. A laptop would likely be preferred over an older iMac because of the smaller footprint. The price of used 2010 MacBook Air 13" (13" would be preferable over 11) seems good. Assuming that it's best to bring it up to speed with the current OS, is 2gb enough?
Is the 2010 MBA 13" OK?  any other models/suggestions/ideas?
    thanks!

You are correct.  I failed to notice that my information source for the 2010 MBA says:  Ethernet Optional Apple USB Ethernet Adapter.  That is essentially the case with all MBAs.  Details matter. my apologies.

I would like to have the option to view the 1st page of my pdf next to the second page - not on its own (eg currently, for a 5 page document, mine only shows up as page 1, then p2+3, then P4+5. I would like it to show up at p1+2, then P3+4 then P5, etc. I know how to click between 1 page, and 2 pages and 2 pages continuous, but the 1st page is always on its own for all options.....I understand that in Adobe, you can set preferences for page set ups for viewing your pdf, which includes showig the 1st page with the next one:

    Hi,
In Preview's View Menu there is PDF display.
The Two Pages option places two pages side by side.
However I have found it is not consistent with different PDFs.
(I also set the Preferences to 50% for PDF display)

It seems to works once you are past the first page (Although I do have a 2 page document where it does not work).

  • Suggesting on best Mac set up for home photographer

looking for suggesting on best Mac set up for home photographer and video editor using iPhoto and CS6 products for example. I have a 8 year old Mac and looking to start with a new clean build. I don't need to get too fancy can be a out of box Mac solution

Any Mac will be faster than an 8-year old one (especially since that Mac is almost certainly PowerPC-based).
You've posted in the Mac Pro forum, but ironically that's the one Mac that wouldn't really make sense (they're very expensive and are generally overkill for most home applications).
The iMacs are probably what you want to look at - I would go into an Apple Store and look at the two sizes to determine what works best for you. The 27" has expandable RAM; the 21" doesn't, so you are advised, if you buy the smaller, to max out the RAM from Apple to 16GB when you buy it.
Don't forget that they lack optical drives now, so you'll need an external USB drive if you use a lot of CD/DVDs. (Doesn't need to be an Apple Superdrive.)

  • How can I view Sony HD videos

I have a Sony HD video camera, a Handycam.  The camera came with a software called PMB which is only compatable for PC's.  The software enables the PC to view the HD video files.  My Macbook Pro is not able to view these videos and I can't figure out what software I need to be able to do so.  Please help me figure out how to view the HD videos my Sony shoots on my Mac?  Thank you.

Your problem is the reason why I chose not to consider a Sony camera.  The only solution that I know of would be to partition your HDD and install a Windows operating system on the new partition.   It seems it would be difficult to justify doing it just for viewing your cameras video, unless you had some other uses for a Windows operating system.
    Ciao.

  • Acrobat Standard 6.0 Set as Default Viewer, but Browser is looking for Adobe Reader 8 or 9

    All,
I use Adobe Acrobat Standard 6.0 for viewing and creating PDF's.  Just a couple of days ago, I tried opening a patent document I found on Google.  The browser displayed the following error:
"The Adobe Acrobat/Reader that is running can not be used to view PDF files in a Web Browser.  Adobe Acrobat/Reader version 8 or 9 is required.  Please exit and try again."
So I looked for an update for Adobe Reader and downloaded Adobe Reader 9.1.2.
The next PDF document that I opened came up in Adobe Reader....NOT Adobe Acrobat.  The installation must have changed the default viewer.  So I right-clicked on the PDF file icon and selected OPEN WITH Adobe Acrobat.  I clicked the checkbox to "Always open with this program..."  This seems to have fixed the default viewer problem, as PDF files now open with Adobe Acrobat Standard...just the way I want things to work.
I still have the problem of not being able to open many documents within a browser...I think because the browser is looking to open the PDF files in Adobe Reader 9.1.2, NOT Acrobat 6.0.  But Adobe Acrobat is now the default viewer.
Does Acrobat function independently of Reader?  Or is Reader a module that is required for Acrobat to function properly?  Whatever the case may be, can somebody suggest a fix for this problem?
    Thanks,
    Neal
    [email address deleted by host]

They do not require each other for running as mentioned. There are some modules in common and that is where you run into problems. There are issues with the parts that remain resident also. I would suggest you follow the other advice you have been given. Unfortunately, there are some PDFs that may not open correctly in AA6. You may have run into some of those.

  • Lost my export settings for Compressor. Advice please.

I just transferred all of my files to a new MBP from my iMac. But, I forgot to save my Compressor settings that I always used. I would really appreciate some advice. I shoot in 720p 60 then edit in a 29.97 timeline. I then export ProRes LT to take to Compressor. First, what would be a good Compressor template to use? Broadband High? Broadband Low? WiFi High? Should I change data rate? Audio settings? I am just looking for some simple parameters here.I am using Video Press to stream my content and it is working very well. But I lost the settings that I was using for streaming. Any help would be great.
    Happy Holidays to all.
    Cheers.
    Tom

Hi tom, your previous Compressor v4 settings are probably in your previous home directory at
    ~/library/application Support/Compressor/Settings
If you still have your previous Timemachine sparsebundle around you can simply restore this folder to your current ~/library/application Support/Compressor/Settings and you will have all your old settings back
I've assumed that you have an old instance of your application support library around
If not I don't know of any way to reinstate your compressor settings without another instance without manually setting them up again
Please post your results for others to utilise. :)
    Happy new year!

  • How do I set a particular view in STUDIO record browser for a particular user?

How do I set a particular view in the Studio record browser for a particular user?

Thank you for your reply. However, I could not get Templates to work correctly for me.  Following your instructions, I opened my document, opened Page Setup, set the printer, paper size, orientation, and printed a copy to make sure it was right. Then I re-opened Page Setup to verify that the settings were still correct. Then I saved the document as a Template. Then I found my template in Pages, opened the template, and tried to print. The first thing I noticed was that the template did not remember my printer. Then I set the printer, and printed, but I found that the template also did not remember the page size or the document orientation. So, did I miss a step here? Lion 10.7.5 and Mac Mini.
