Advice re install of XI 3.1 sp3 at our customer sites

We are required to upgrade our BI customers to XI 3.1 sp3. I am trying to make sure we have all the pertinent info before we head off to client sites to install the new version. The plan is to create a BIAR file here then install XI 3.1 sp3 and impement BIAR file.
I'd be grateful for help with the following questions:
1) Do you agree it would be better to do a complete fresh install, since our customers are curently on XI r 2?
2) Do you agree we need the name of the server where Business Objects will be installed and the name and IP address of DB server and the port number- then we can create the relevant BIAR file at the office
3) A list of BI users so we can set up the security at the office and include in the BIAR file
Am I missing anything?

Yes, it is much better to start with clean full install of Xi3.1 Sp3 when migrtating from XIR2.

What is the purpose of this BIAR file ?
3) A list of BI users so we can set up the security at the office and include in the BIAR file
Aren't you migrating/upgrading from existiong XIR2 environment ?
Why aren't you importing users/groups/security from that XIR2 enviroment ?

Issues after installing Hotfix Rollup 5 for SP3

Hi,
Last weekend we installed Hotfix Rollup Pack 5 for SP3 on our (single) Exchange 2010 Enterprise server.
This was needed to fix the WebApp Light issue with IE11 and to fix the problem where users were unsable to delete mails sent from multifunctionals.
These 2 issues were fixed by installing the hotfix rollup pack, but now our users have different problems...
Some users (not all of them, haven't found a common denominator yet) report that they don't see new mails in their Outlook 2010 box, even though they got the envelope notifier.
When they change folder and back to the Inbox the new mail is suddenly visible.
Same sort of "delay" happens when users mark a message for follow-up or try to change a message from unread to read.
Some users also report that they see delegated mailboxes (mailboxes from other users that they have full mailbox access to) twice in their Outlook 2010.
Outlook 2010 is running in online mode (because it's running on terminal/citrix servers), so it's no issue with caching as far as I understand.
I've already checked if there are any updates for Outlook available, but we've installed them all already.
I though I'd found something:
Noticed a lot of errors in the application log on the Exchange Server which pointed me to this:

I've added the registry values now with a value of 1500, but unfortunately this didn't help.
The errors in the eventlog are gone, but even after restarting the IS some users still have these problems.
One user reported that it takes about 7 minutes for a read mail to actually switch to "read" when looking at his inbox.
Did anyone else notice these problems? And maybe have a fix for them?
I really don't want to roll back the update :(
I even rebooted the Exchange Server after installing the rollup even though that wasn't even necessary

Correct - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2925273 discusses this issue.
If you do raise a support case to request this, please ensure that you review and understand the requirements for IU installation and removal.
For example:   You *MUST* manually remove it prior to installing Exchange 2010 SP3 RU6.

Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from the following page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):

To install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

Error when Installing R12 on Windows XP SP3

Hi I am trying to install EBS R12 on WindXP SP3 and followed all the steps mentioned. I go the following error:
Step 2 of 5
RW-50004: Error code received when running external process. Check log file for details. Running Database Install Driver for VIS instance.
I looked at the log files under
C:\oracle\VIS\db\tech_st\10.2.0\log\ap702app\client
C:\oracle\VIS\db\tech_st\10.2.0\log\ap735wgs\client
C:\oracle\VIS\db\tech_st\10.2.0\log\personal\client
and all the log files contain the following

Can someone tell me what other log files do I need to look and the location of the logs. As I am not able to install I tried couple of times but everytime it get stuck at Step 2 of 5.

Thanks it worked this time I gues was an issue with username having spaces. I know we need to start DB Services first when starting up and Shut Down AS Services first and then DB.
Under services I see the following services related to oracle now in which order should I be starting and shutting down these services. On shut down of my laptop I want to shut the services first so in which order should I do and on startup in which order to start the services. Following services I see in the windows services.

Advice on Installing Windows 7 on a MBP 17"

Need some advice on install Windows 7 (barebones) on a Mac 17" MBP.
It is possible to instaall Windows 7 with out all the crap that MS has in Winows 7 and does it play nice once you do have it installed with ParallelsDesktop-7.0.15054.722853 or would I be better at installing VirtualBox instead.
The only reason I'm going this route after almost five years or running straight Mac is that there are still backward sites on the net that don't recognize Safari, FF or Chrome as alternatives to IE as well as Corel and their thinking that PaintShop Pro is'nt good enough for the Mac Platform.
Any help would be appriciated. I probably won't be able to join in the conversation as is I'm on the road for thenext few day.

Well, my 2cts would be to check out the forums of the different VM's and see what or if any one is having issues with what you may be using or thinking about using.
You might be thinking of a "computer bundle" version of Windows, (Dell, HP, etc,) yeah """without all the crap that MS has in Winows 7""" they do come with a bunch of "Trial" stuff, but the standalone version, to me anyway, doesn't seem to have near as much.
About the only major drawback with a VM is it shares the computers resources like ram, processor, etc, so the larger applications may not work because of it.
For me I'm in Windows long enough to have a physical copy via Boot Camp (I need the hardware) and I use Parallels (I use BC for the VM) for the temporary/quick things like reading a .docx or some silly thing I get and have to have it translated or accessing a web site that needs IE.
The one thing that sticks out for me with Parallels (6.x) is they have a "Coherence Mode" that runs in the background, any Windows items you click on in the Mac OS side, will just open instead of "Booting" into the full VM. Won't work with the "Mega" applications but for the few times you may need it it's fine.
I really can't give you more info on Parallels as I forget I even have it to use most of the time. (got it as a package bundle, couldn't pass it up, I would have bought one of them anyway.)

Error installing Portal Platform 6.0 SP3 with WAS 6.40

While installing EP Platform 6.0 SP3, we get the error in the step " Start SAP J2EE Engine".
The error says " CJS - 20024 J2EE engine JC00 of SAP system did not come up after ... seconds:giving up"
We are using JDK version 1.4.2_05 on windows 2000 server.
In SAP MMC the jcontrol.exe doesnt start.It remains GREY.
The file 'dev_jcontrol' says :

Oracle 7 install fails with Windows XP SP3

After installing Windows SP3 on systems with XP Professional 32 bit, we cannot install Oracle 7.3.4, which is required for an older 16 bit program. Running the Oracle 7 setup.exe returns an error "setup.exe is not a valid Win32 application". The installer file is not corrupt, we can still run the setup successfully on any computers that still have XP Pro SP2 installed.
However, systems that had Oracle 7.3.4 installed prior to the Windows SP3 update will run the software OK; it is just new installations of Oracle 7.3.4 that fail.
I have tried running the install off of a CD, network drive, and copied the files to the local machine, all return the same error. I have tried different users all with Admin privileges. I tried installing with each compatibility mode checked, clean booting the machine, and updating Windows Installer. I always get the "setup.exe is not a valid Win32 application" error.
Any suggestions or info?

Here is some updated information.
Systems that have been in service for a long time and updated from Windows XP Pro SP2 to SP3 will not run the Oracle 7 installer. All machines that still have SP2 will run the installer.
However, systems that we recently formatted and reinstalled Windows XP Pro with SP2, and then updated to SP3, will run the installer for Oracle 7 with SP3 already installed. This indicates that it is not SP3 that is the issue. It could be an update that was done in the past (Microsoft or another software vendor), or some different file that is on the other machines (same brand, models, and OS, just been in service without being formatted recently).
We also have Oracle 10g on all the systems, but the old CrisPlus program probably won't run with Oracle 10g, because we have to add "C:\ORAWIN\BIN" to the system Environmental Variables or we get a "Ora7win.dll" error when launching the CrisPlus program. An Oracle expert or programmer may know how to work around this issue, but I do not know how.
This does give us options to fix the Oracle 7 issue. Either rollback the SP3 update and then install CrisPlus prior to the installation of SP3, or format the systems and reinstall Windows XP Pro, Service Pack3, and Oracle 7.

Hi Simon,
The SP3 is still unavaiable, but you can download the latest fixpack 2.7 in the service market place.
All the fixpack and servicepack under the same product version should under the same place in SMP.

A possible cause is a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.
