Advice with Motion presets

Hey guys,
I'm working with Motion to do a 3 minute slideshow and I'd love to get some advice on the project setup and exports. What's the best setting for Motion if this slideshow's going to be displayed on a toshiba projector? You can find a link with the specs below, but i'm wondering how best to set this up for the best output quality... how should I export this when I'm done? Do I need to get involved with FCP? Thanks in advance...

  • Applied motion presets don't work with page transitions.

    Hello everybody,
I created a multipage document within InDesign. I applied some of the available motion presets. I have a really hard time making the whole document play and than loop. The final file can be either PDF (interactive) or SWF. Please help!

Sorry, Jumped the gun. Just reversed the menu sequence and all is good.

  • 3D motion preset

I'm curious about whether InDesign can handle 3D motion presets. I exported the "spiral-3D" preset from Flash CS5 and imported it into InDesign CS5. I applied it to an object and it didn't work. Can an object be rotated on the z-axis in InDesign? Can this be done without scripting?

i'd recommend the o'reilly books.  there are quite a few and (disclaimer:  i'm a technical reviewer for their flash:  the missing manual) i've read several.
however, i learned actionscript via the adobe (well, back when i started macromedia) forums and experimenting.  but i've read some of their java and ajax books, too.
actionscript 3 has a limited future.  but then so does everything else.  actionscript 3 will probably evolve into something else in 5 to 10 years.
but learning actionscript 3 won't be a waste.  learning object-oriented programming (like as3) is not likely to go out of style in the next 10 years.  so, what you learn with as3 oop, you can leverage with the next language you want to learn.
and right now, the big benefit of actionscript over everything else is that it's browser independent. nothing else even comes close to browser independence.
<rant>when i do an ajax or html5 project, i'm aggrevated that i have to do everything, at least, twice because different browsers interpret javascript/html5 differently.  that (plus everyone has the flash plug-in), is a huge benefit that flash has over all other browser/plug-in interpreted programming languages.
the latest craze is html5 which is really a joke.  it's like working with flash from 10 years ago it's so primitive.  and you still need to use flash as backup because not all browsers can parse html5 to do the one thing it's supposed to be really good at doing:  playing video.</rant>

  • SWF header duration reduced to 2 frames after using a Motion Preset

It seems that after you apply a Motion Preset the header of an exported SWF reports an incorrect duration of 2 frames even though its much longer. Also, after removing the elements that are related to the Motion Preset, the SWF still reports 2 frames, even though the timeline is longer.
This has been replicated on multiple systems. I tested it by created a SWF with a main timeline of 175 frames, reading the correct duration, then adding a random motion preset and reading only 2 frames.
I believe that the updated SWF spec shows no changes to the header. Anyone know why this happens and if there's a way to get the correct duration in the SWF file header?
    Flash CS5 on Windows 7, 64-bit

Looks like he has fireFX instance on the timeline. Most probably this instances symbol base class is com.gskinner.effects.FireFX
You just need to create a directory structure that reflects his package:
    com/gskinner/effects/
    where you place his FireFX.as
Or, alternatively, you can remove package path from the class header and place FireFx where all you classes (or your application) are:
    package com.gskinner.effects {
    to
    package {
Then you will just need to instantiate the class.

  • Video blurry with motion when trying to create WMV video to share

    I have a Sony HDR-cx350.  I am currently using PE 9.    In the past using my standard def camcorder and PE 7.0 when I wanted to share a video for online I would usually select "share - windows media" and use the LAN preset to create a WMV file that I would upload to photoshop.com and share with friends.    Now with new camcorder and PE 9.0 using these setting any motion in the video become blurry/jagged.    The only way to improve on this is to go into the advanced settings and increase the average video bitrate setting which make the file get large fast.  I dot believe I am using the best project presets to use because PE changes it for me.  But based on MEDIA info below maybe you can tell me what the best project presets would be.    Please HELP  my son's football season is starting soon and the coaches depend on me to shoot game film to share with the coaches.  TIA  FILE INFO using MEDIA INFO PROGRAM  CompleteName                     :es\DCL video 2011\20110615103137.m2ts Format                           : BDAV Format/Info                      : Blu-ray Video FileSize/String                  : 71.7 MiB Duration/String                  : 53s 14ms OverallBitRate/String            : 11.3 Mbps OverallBitRate_Maximum/String    : 18.0 Mbps  Video ID/String                        : 4113 (0x1011) MenuID/String                    : 1 (0x1) Format                           : AVC Format/Info                      : Advanced Video Codec Format_Profile                   : [email protected] Format_Settings_CABAC/String     : Yes Format_Settings_RefFrames/String : 2 frames Format_Settings_GOP              : M=1, N=30 CodecID                          : 27 Duration/String                  : 52s 986ms BitRate_Mode/String              : Variable BitRate/String                   : 10.6 Mbps BitRate_Maximum/String           : 16.0 Mbps Width/String                     : 1 440 pixels Height/String                    : 1 080 pixels DisplayAspectRatio/String        : 16:9 FrameRate/String                 : 29.970 fps ColorSpace                       : YUV ChromaSubsampling                : 4:2:0 BitDepth/String                  : 8 bits ScanType/String                  : Interlaced ScanOrder/String                 : Top Field First Bits-(Pixel*Frame)               : 0.228 StreamSize/String                : 67.1 MiB (94%)  Audio ID/String                        : 4352 (0x1100) MenuID/String                    : 1 (0x1) Format                           : AC-3 Format/Info                      : Audio Coding 3 Format_Settings_ModeExtension    : CM (complete main) CodecID                          : 129 Duration/String                  : 53s 56ms BitRate_Mode/String              : Constant BitRate/String                   : 256 Kbps Channel(s)/String                : 2 channels ChannelPositions                 : Front: L R SamplingRate/String              : 48.0 KHz BitDepth/String                  : 16 bits Compression_Mode/String          : Lossy Video_Delay/String               : -67ms StreamSize/String                : 1.62 MiB (2%)  Text ID/String                        : 4608 (0x1200) MenuID/String                    : 1 (0x1) Format                           : PGS CodecID                          : 144 Duration/String                  : 52s 487ms Video_Delay/String               : -67ms

I feel your pain. The Adobe forum software does some odd "stuff" with formatting, and once that happens, there seems to be nothing to do about it. I have been caught in that "trick bag," more times, than I can count.
As for Encoding to WMV, Adobe programs, are not known to do a good job of this, and that is both PrE and PrPro. For years, many users recommended Windows Media Encoder, which was free from MS, and to use that, one would Export/Share to an intermediate file, then use WME to do the WMV Encode. MS discontinued the old WME, but one user (Neale, IIRC) found a replacement. Unfortunately, I do not recall the name, but it was something like MicroSoft Media Encoder Live, or similar. That user tested the new, replacement utility, and thought that it also did a much better job, than PrE/PrPro.
Still, quality, and especially with motion (either subject, or camera) needs a good Bit-Rate to produce good results, however at the expense of large files. As all Encoders are not created equal, the best that one can do is to find one, that does a good job, and then experiment with the Bit-Rate to get highest quality at a manageable file size. This is the same "balancing act," that we all fight with.
Good luck, and maybe those, with better memories, can come up with the name of the MS WMV Encoder.

  • Motion presets

I created a motion preset of a 3D text animation that made the text swing back and forth like a gate with the hinge on the far left side.  However, when I apply the motion preset to other text, the text moves to a new location and the text swings closer to the center than the far left side.  Moving the text only creates a travel path that further complicates matters.
What am I doing wrong with the motion preset?  How can I save something into a preset and apply it to other things and have the animation work the way it was designed?
Help would greatly reduce my stress and frustration.

i'd recommend the o'reilly books.  there are quite a few and (disclaimer:  i'm a technical reviewer for their flash:  the missing manual) i've read several.

  • Flash motion presets

I've been working with Flash CS3 for a little while, and just
noticed that in the newest release (CS4) they have motion presets
you can use - which I think is great! However, my employer is not
going to upgrade me to CS4 just for that! Does anyone know if
there's a way to use presets in CS3? Is there a site or anything
where you can grab some free preset animations? Has this ever been
    done before CS4?
    Thanks!

I have not seen anything for animation presets prior to CS4.
I know in CS3 they introduced the ability to copy and paste motion,
which is just one step down from having a preset. I believe you can
also save motion out to XML, but that is for use in Flex projects.
As for convincing your employer to upgrade you to CS4, there
are more than a few options that make a CS4 upgrade not only
tantalizing, but necessary (in my opinion), and well worth the
cost. For starters, the ability to work in 2.5D (that means 2D
planes in 3D space). The highly customizable object-based tween
model (key frame-less!!). These are just a couple of the basics,
each one independently worth the upgrade, and when you bundle them
together, it is an upgrade that is quite irresistible.

  • Where can I download/buy Flash CS6 motion presets?

I'm looking to purchase or download or find a resource for motion presets for Flash CS6.
Although I can create most motions, I'd rather have a comprehensive library that extends the default presets that come with Flash.
Where can I download/buy motion presets?
    Thanks.

for tweenlite:  on the upper right is a download the appropriate (hopefully, as3) version: http://www.greensock.com/tweenlite/
for tweenmax: on the upper right is a download the appropriate (hopefully, as3) version: http://www.greensock.com/tweenmax/
p.s. these aren't motion presets. they are tweening classes with eases like easein, easeout, bounce, elastic etc.  those eases are also available with the standard flash tween class.

  • Motion preset plug in?

    hello forumers.
i was wandering if there are more motion presets that i can use than the ones that come with flash, the one they have as default are great, but id like to have a wider range if possible.
    thank you.

I watched your tutorial. Nice.  I have a few questions though.
How did you change the image size of your photos?  You say it is important to have them 1000 x 750
When I hit the backslash key I only get a picture at the beginning and one at the end.
I have been looking at your book and reading reviews.  If it is as helpful as you are I may have to purchase it.

  • Problems with Motion title

I am trying to create a title using one of Motion's pre-made template's but every time I try to import the picture it does not fit the drop zone and I can't resize it or anything. I am very new to Final Cut Studio, I worked with Final Cut Pro a while back but I have not done a whole lot with Motion. I am trying to create some good looking titles for a fitness company that hired me, but I have not had so much luck. If anyone could give me a link to some good tutorials or has some good advice, I would greatly appreciate it.
    Thanks!

Not sure which template you're using, but there is a Fit parameter with drop zones. Select the drop zone and click on the Image tab in the Inspector. Under the Fit parameter, make sure it says, "Fit" and not Center or Stretch.

  • What happened to Final Cut's integration with Motion??  Renders are hosed..

So is it just me? I have a HUGE project (1.5 hour bio/documentary) that is crashing Final Cut every time it tries to render or export. I was getting an error that said the crash could have been possible to a "ProGraphics plug-in." I can't locate any plug-in anywhere on any drive that's associated with "ProGraphics" at all. From what I gather it's something to do with Motion integration, causing problems with renders. Basically, I've used many Motion effects within my Final Cut sequences. They're nested everywhere, and were rendering just fine a few days ago (although I was still having issues with exporting). So basically I either need to wait for a fix, or go back and re-cut without the Motion graphics. Uggh. Disgusted and in need of a patch (or a drink).
My versions of all software are current, as is my operating system. I've done all updates and patches (I'm a versiontracker geek so I keep up with this stuff). I've deleted preferences, dumped all render files (that's when I figured out the rendering issues with Motion), rebuilt permissions, created a clean User Account, etc. I've done hardware tests on the drives and RAM. I'm out of options.
Can anyone from Apple confirm that there are indeed issues with this, just to reassure me that I'm not going insane?
    Thanks.

Try searching the forums for that ProGraphics term., might find something that helps.
Chances are you lost or damaged a system-level hook in one of your recent efforts to stay up to date. Most of us would not update QT or the pro apps until big projects are out the door or securely backed up. We often print to tape or export a completely flattened movie before running major upgrades to the Mac OS.
However, I just popped open an old FCP project that has some Motion work in it from about 8 months ago. Everything hooked right up and some tests rendered okay.
Huge projects with delicately nested elements need careful workflow decisions. I try to pre-render or use proxies where ever possible. Hard lessons learned over a decode of After Effects work. Hope you get better advice but searching for the ProGraphics error term will get you results faster.

  • Adjusting motion presets to sound

I have a saved motion preset that I want to use to display in a flash animation with various speakers. I have a preset motion that I want on each and I want to use on all my objects. Problem is since the voice files are of varying length, I need to adjust the animations on each, as far as when they occur etc. I am doing this the class way in the timeline, and when I adjust (by moving the keyframes towards the end) it messes up the front of the animation by moving that also.Perhaps I am doing this the hard way, by dragging keyframes, but it is causing problems. Any suggestions of a better way?  Thanks in advance,  Bruce

I'm not sure if this is what you're doing, but it sounds like you might be stretching the span by dragging the end?  If so, then perhaps Shift+dragging the span will help (it changes the length without stretching the animation).

  • Calling Motion Presets Far and Wide!!

I think the new motion tweening on CS4 is amazing and the default presets are even
pretty darn awesome.  So I hop on the net and there is no website for motion preset downloads!!
So I'm making a custom motion preset website!
Send me ALL your custom motion presets and I will put them all on a site with your name or SN.
The site will go up as soon as I get a few.
I will make a new post with the site name.
Send all of them to [email protected]
Thank you!! Xi xi!  Graci! Mui Bien!

Ok well, I havn't gotten any responses from anyone who has custom motion presets, lol.  So if anyone ever feels like sharing contact me.

  • Does Qmaster come with Motion? - Compressor does.

    Hi,
I've been using Compressor 2 with Motion 2, works great. I want to set up Qmaster but I can't seem to find the AppleQmasterNode.mpkg package. I saw a bunch of other Qmaster packages, and installed them, but I can't get the control panel to show up in my system prefs, which would confirm I've done the setup correctly.
    Advice would be appreciated.
    John

That I'm aware of Motion doesn't doesn't come with Qmaster in that sense. However, if you have if you have Final Cut, it will come with Qmaster which you can then set up and compressor will use Qmaster. But if it doesn't show up in your system preferences then it wasn't installed and you would need to purchase Final Cut.

  • Working in Logic 9, how do I use a drum loop WITH ITS PRESET EFFECTS? I can drag and drop the loop but it plays dry in timeline. thanks

Working in Logic 9, how do I use a drum loop WITH ITS PRESET EFFECTS? I can drag and drop the loop but it plays dry in timeline. thanks

    Here's the short-cut solution:
Green Apple tracks are MIDI files (so to speak). If you drag one from the loop browser (Capitol C Orchestral hit, as you mentioned in this exable) directly into the arrange page it creates the MIDI file and the instrument to play it back on.
HOWEVER.If you create and audio track first, THEN drag the green Apple loop onto that track, the loop will get "bounced" with the reverb in tact and you'll have the exact sound that you heard in the preview.
    Make sense?
