Advise on wireless pcmcia adapter for PB17

Hi,
seeking advise on a wireless pcmcia adapter to use on a Powerbook 17".
Preferably 802.11N (tho my current wireless access point right now is
G, I'm planning on getting an N).
thx

Yes, a wireless bridge (WET54G or similar?) attached to the iMac should allow you to connect to that router, wirelessly. Alternatively, it ought to be possible to place the router next to the iMac, and connect via a short Ethernet cable. The router unit itself, apparently, would act as a new bridge between your internal network (wireless and/or cabled) and the external 3G network, thus providing access to the Internet. A separate 3G data card (PC Card) is required. It would probably not be a bad idea to check with the supplier whether Mac software is needed/available for the card (otherwise, could something suitable be found e.g. here?).
If the only purpose is to connect the iMac to the Internet, without an internal network, a non-card solution might still be worth considering. With a Bluetooth adapter (e.g. this one from D-Link) or a data cable, a direct connection to a "normal" mobile phone is possible. The same principle is applicable as far as 3G handsets are concerned. A handset can be used as a "modem". I do not know anything about the mobile-phone market in Australia, but this web page could perhaps be of interest.
Good luck!

  • HP B500 Wireless Bluethooth Adapter for HP Printer Not Working With Windows 8.1

I have been using the HP BT500 bluetooth Wireless adapter to print wirelessly to my HP Officejet Pro 8500 printer.  I have been using Windows Vista, but recently upgraded to Windows 8.1.  I learned after the upgrade that the HP B500 wireless bluetooth adapter is not compatable with Windows 8.1.  I have attempted to find a driver upgrade for the B500, but there does not appear to be one available.  I have also searched the HP site and other sites in an attempt to locate an alter wireless blotth adapter to replace the B500, but have again been unable to locate one.
Is there a wireless bluetooth apter that will allow me to print wirelessly to my HP Office Pro 8500 from my laptop?

    Hi @Raider83,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I noticed that your HP B500 wireless bluetooth adapter for your HP Officejet 8500 is not working with Windows 8.1. I am sorry to hear this but happy to look into this for you!
I am not sure if you are using a 32-bit or 64-bit Operating System. But sometimes with Windows 8.1 you can use compatibility mode to install an older version of the driver. Which might help the situation. Here is a link to some other Windows drivers, HP bt500 Bluetooth USB 2.0 Wireless Adapter Drivers.
Once you got a driver downloaded, follow this guide, Make older programs compatible with this version of Windows, on how to install it using compatibility mode.  It is not guaranteed to work, but it is worth a try!
If you still need me to look for other bluetooth adapters, please respond with your printer's Product/Model Number. To find your printer's Product/Model Number follow instructions in this link. Finding Your HP Product Model Number. As there are multiple HP Officejet 8500 printers.
Thank you for posting, and have a nice day!

  • Recommended Wireless PCMCIA cards for IBM laptop w/ Airport Extreme network

Does anyone know the best performing PCMCIA card for use on an Airport Extreme wireless network?
I have an IBM R40 laptop.

RHESKE, Welcome to the discussion area!
Does the WinXP laptop have wireless capability? If so, what have you tried and what were the results?

  • Can someone recommend a good wireless usb adapter for an iMac?

I would rather use a wireless usb adapter instead of having to purchase an airport card. Thanks a lot in advance for your assistance,
    Christine

This is the discussion area for Intel-based iMacs. Since you have an iMac G5 you probably want to make any future posts in the iMac G5 discussion area.
Its probably cheaper to get an AirPort Extreme card but you might want to take a look at www.macwireless.com

  • Wireless N adapter for MacBook Pro Core Duo

I am really wanting to upgrade my network to Wireless N. Problem being I have the core duo MacBook Pro which does not have this capability. Does any one know if apple, or anyone else, is planning on or has released an adapter (usb or express card) for wireless N that I could plug into my machine? I have seen only one solution on the internet but would rather not void my warranty and risk screwing up my computer. Thanx.

Yes, After I posted this yesterday I found a similar article. I think they just released it yesterday. Ask and you shall receive . I think I found another one, for half the price as well, by Edimax (EW-771Un) that is USB.

I think we are still on the verge of this tech becoming mainstream so there are not too many products yet. The whole "draft" n thing is annoying. I think they will have a whole new version by a different letter by the time they take the Draft off of the the designation.
Now the question is will it work with the Wireless N Airport for maximum speed to make the expense worth it?
    Thanks.

  • Looking for best wireless Network Adapter for my PowerMac G5

    Dual 2.3 GHz PowerMac G5 (PowerMac11,2)
    5.5GBs DDR2 SDRAM
    Leopard 10.5
Before the local Mac Store upgraded me from Tiger To Leopard I was using a Hawking Technology HWUG1A Wireless Adapter. It was clunky and the software crashed me now and then. Now that I'm on 10.5 the Hawking Tech. software  crashed me every time it tried to connect to the router. I uninstalled it using AppCleaner, then reinstalled the Hawking 'Leopard version' of the software/firmware, still crashing me.
There support says "it should work" which I could still pursue getting it to work correctly, but I want to move on since I've never been happy with the product and don't want to risk wasting to much time incase it is simply not going to work.
It seems I have some PCI(e) slots (whatever is in the PowerMac) available on this mac, can it take a wireless network card? That would be much better than a USB doogle. Anyway, I'm looking for a reliable solution for connecting my PowerMac G5 to my router without using cables. Can you please recommend a product if you know of one?
    Thanks for your time!

have you searched the forums? There are a bunch of threads on the ath9k module not working correctly with the latest kernel.
That's why it works in the live cd environment but stops working once you update and login to your actual installation.

  • Wireless printer adapter issue

I purchased an HP802.11b/g Wireless Printer Adapter for an HP H470wbt printer; I installed the driver on a laptop with Windows Vista; I could never get the printer to work wirelessly; I recently purchased a new laptop with Windows 7 and attempted to install the wireless printer driver but failed - I believe it is because the driver is not compatible with Windows 7.
I cannot even find the product on HP's website to see if there is any installation upgrade.
Can anyone offer how I might make this work?

OK, I just got it to work....unplug the power cable from the printer, and unplug the power cable from the outlet...wait 30 seconds and replug. If the printer does not power up on it's own, power it up. I also reset my router. After a day of trying to figure this out, it's working. BUT, it definitely had something to do with the Mac Software Update. Hope it works for you!

  • USB adapter for old imac

I know this should be in the crt imac forum, but i need a response soon.
I'm looking for a wireless usb adapter for a crt imac. This mac has the capability to use an airport card, but none is installed.
Are there any usb adapters that are mac compatible? If not, is there anywhere i can find an old airport card (not airport extreme).

    Hi John,
    You want one of these:

It connects to the ethernet port. I have the 'B' version on an old 450DV+, and it works well.

Yes, if it doesn't have wireless built in. Provide the model number of the TV if you wish specifics.

  • Opinion - "n" wireless adapter for pc notebook

I would like to add a wireless "n" adapter to my pc notebook that is compatible withe the AEBS. USB or PCMCIA would be fine. What are your suggestions?
    Thanks is advance.

Hi: HP used to have a BIOS whitelist on notebooks made beyond the last year to 15 months ago. It seems to have been removed for most models, but none of us know which ones.  However many forum members have been able to install different wireless cards in their new HP notebooks. For example, I bought a HP 350 G1 notebook in February.  I replaced the wireless card with an older Intel 6230 I had lying around to see if I could screen mirror my notebook to my smart TV, since the 6230 is WiDi capable.  It worked just fine and I was able to screen mirror my notebook to my TV. Now that I know I can install whatever card I want, I just ordered an Intel 7260 dual band card.  If you can easily access the wireless card in your model (the service manual shows you can), and it has two wireless antenna terminals connected to the wireless card, you should be able to install any model wireless card you want. http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c04501633

i need Mac driver for TP-Link Wireless USB adapter model no TL-WN7200ND

First of all, TP-Link does not provide OS X drivers for that adapter. However, there are other sources that have drivers like this one. It is not official and it may fail, but it has been tested by other users and it works correctly.

  • Using Airport Extreme as a wireless adapter for an xbox 360 and/or computer

I have a wifi network that is successfully broadcasting internet, i also have a spare Airport Extreme that i would like to use as a wireless adapter for my xbox 360.
My Existing network is being broadcast from a D-Link modem so it doesn't support "extending a network" with airport extreme
What i want to achieve is:
Wifi Internet being broadcast by d-link, received by Airport Extreme WIRELESSLY, then sent via a WIRE to my xbox 360's ethernet port so that i can access internet on my xbox 360.
    Unfortunately:
My Xbox 360 doesn't have built in wireless
Connecting to the d-link network wirelessly (with the airport extreme) doesn't seem to give me a wired internet connection (from the airport extreme)
I don't want to extend the network wirelessly
    Any help would be appreciated
Thanks in advance to any users who know how to solve my (probably simple) problem

    Welcome to the discussions, DanSwiggsD!
If you have a non-Apple device as your main router, unfortunately the AirPort Extreme has almost no chance of compatibility with your main router.
If you do have an Apple router as your main device, please post back with your model number and we'll let you know how your devices should be configured.
If you don't have an Apple device as your main router you have a few options to connect the xbox:
    1) A pair of ethernet powerline adapters could be used if you did not want to run a regular ethernet cable from your main router to the xbox.
    2) The new AirPort Express 802.11n model does have a feature called Proxy STA which should allow it to receive a wireless signal from any wireless router and allow the ethernet port to be enabled.
