AE 2014 - ray trace 3D looks fine in edit, doesn't render depth

I am editing some 3D text and have my comp settings to use the ray trace engine. All looks good as I edit, but when I render the text is flat 2D. Attached are samples. What's going on?

This is how it renders out. I've tried different formats all thru Media Encoder to no avail.
One more data point - if I use Save Frame As it renders correctly with the 3D depth.

I'm sorry that I missed that you were using AME CC 14. I would have suggested a better workflow. I may have also explored the differences between AME CC and AME CC 14. If you open the Preferences in AME 2014 you will discover that the Mercury Playback Engine in the Video Rendering section. There is no mention of this option in the help files.
The Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acdeleration (OpenCL) does not support Ray-Traced rendering so the default setting would give the expected results. The option to select a Cuda rendering option from the list gives the impression that CUDA accelerated effects would render. Software Only suggests that the GPU would no be used to accelerate rendering.
I've filed a bug on this. It's a bug if CUDA is in the list and it is not going to work. It's a bug if Software Only is in the list and software rendering worked in AME CC. It's also a bug, at least a bug in the documentation, if there is no warning given that Adobe Media Encoder will no longer support any Ray-traced rendering features. I would suggest you also file a bug on this.
In AME CC there was no such option and since the Cuda supported rendering of Ray-traced comps is only supported inside After Effects, software or CPU rendering of ray-traced comps was implemented in AME CC. Software rendering is so slow that no one I knew chose AME for rendering Ray Traced comps. The DI (digital intermediate) was used to take advantage of the GPU. To tell you the truth, 90% of my work does not benefit from MP rendering (also not supported in AME) or Ray-traced rendering. I run the AtomKraft rendering engine instead of RayTraced rendering in CC if I want to extrude text or do other quick 3D things inside AE. The AtomKraft rendering plug-in has not yet been updated to run in CC 14. I'm getting a bit off track here. What I wanted to say is that whenever I have a project that benefits directly from rendering directly inside After Effects I will render a DI. For all other work I use the AME. For my client proofs I use Vimeo Presets and upload directly to private vimeo pages for clients. For all Final renders I render an archival DI, usually with AME, then render my deliverables from AME using the DI.

    If I start the project in CPU ray trace all is fine.  If after the problem develops in GPU I change back to CPU I DONT get them back!!!!!

  • Ray Trace Render problem

    Why do I get  Ray Tracer failed to Launch part way through the render/ram preview? I have done this many times with no problem, the render or ram preview goes 2/3 of the way through and stops with the error. I just can't figure out what's going on. I have deleted layers where the render stops to see if that is the problem but to no avail. This is a project that is due Monday and I have been trying to figure this out for 2 days. Any idea of possible problems? The only thing is at the point where the error stops the render I have some PNG files, although I don't know if that is it, as I take them out and I still get the error.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    As far as the project, it is a HD 1920x1080 29.97 15 second ad. Not sue what else you want to know.

    Are you sure about your FTP credentials (FTP folder and site URL) that you are using for the upload? Are you able to see the updated files in the remote directory of the FTP server, after you finish uploading the muse file, using an external FTP client like FileZilla?

  • Ray-Trace not working on a 3D object

    I created a model in Google Sketchup, mapping photo textures to some surfaces to create certain textures. When I imported it into Photoshop (in DAE format), Photoshop shows the mapped photo textures no problem, but when I go to ray-trace the model, it starts and then stops right away without ray-tracing. I've rendered lots of 3D models from Sketchup before and never had this issue, although, I haven't tried importing a model that already had photo textures mapped before, which is why I made mention of that.
    I'm using Photoshop CS5 Extended. (Not 5.5)
    Does anyone know why it would be doing this? Are there settings I need to change, or just a glitch with the particular model file?
    Here's the model:
    The dashboard (made up of a group of floating flat surfaces made to look like holographic controls) is all photo-textures. This is a screenshot taken directly from Photoshop, so you can see they're appearing fine in Interactive quality.

    I do that dmennenoh, on contentLoaderInfo COMPLETE EVENT i smooth the bitmap in the same way, it even says trace(bitmap.smoothing) true.
    I kind've nailed down the problem. It comes from the good old AS3 3D API. You know how when an object has 3d propertis applied to it it creates a matrix3D for it. Well on a picture like this one, that has small 1pixel patterns on it, when the matrix3D != null the image looks like hell even with smoothing = true.
    I returned the image's rotationY to 0 and still look fuzzy. Than i also made matrix3D = null. And now the image look fine. So the problem is from the matrix3D or the 3D API itself. There's not much of a solution to this problem.
    The image is also scaled down from a big image. You know that if you scale down an image that has patterns on it without smoothing applied to it, it look much like my image. Thus when it's a 3D object the smoothing property isn't taken into account. So every time you use an image with patterns and rotate it or move it on Z it will look much like my image.
    I found a solution though. If the image is almost or the size of the desired dimension it will not look fuzzy. My image is a 1680x1050 reduced down to 610x380. And it looks fuzzy even with smoothing=true if it's a 3d object. After I resized my image to 610x380 in Irfanview it looks cool.

  • Using local/testing server with cs5 inserting images look fine in the split screen but do not show

    If I open example: header.php and insert any photo jpeg/.html ecs i can see the images in the split screen but not in the browser if i save then refresh. I am able to make any change to the code ecs. and they are reflected just fine. I have tried this with my fireworks images .html and when that did not work i tried a strait jpeg off the desktop. This all did not work. I have deleted the local server then step by step created a new one via devnet instruction. This did not work! everything looks fine i even tried in 3 sep browsers with 0 luck....There is no remote server connected at this time because i am making a child theme for my current site. After all changes are done we will the ftp the word press files to site and change.
    Ps i even started over from scratch with 0 positive affects....

    After a lot of pain!!!!!!! the issue is fixed lol After 3 weeks I have overlooked the obvious !!! so the simple fix was the path of the image. Yes i feel stupid 10 years in lol....
    Apparently dreamweaver cs 5 will not use the full path when inserting images into the page example: If you drag the image out of your assets folder or however you do it, DW will give you a path like this <img src="images/glass.jpg" width="800" height="729"> This is not the full path and when your pist!!! you cant see things like that ;( so the image path should look like this:

  • Report Rendering (Print & PDF) trashes report that looks fine on screen

    Since installing SQL Server 2012 SP2 CU3 (11.0.5556) a number of reports look fine on screen but when printed or exported to PDF the format is totally altered so that either many blank lines are inserted between lines, or lines are squashed together. It
    doesn't affect all reports. Reports (both affected and not affected) use Tablix with both Row Groups and Column Groups. There is no obvious consistency between those reports that are affected.
    All of our SQL Server instances are hosted on VM-Ware virtual servers.

    2),If you don't know how to duplicate the issue, please try to remove the sqlserver 2012 sp2 cu3 update by the following steps to see if the issue can be fixed.
    In Control Panel, open the Add or Remove Programs item.

    You can also try opening the PDF with preview, then doing a copy and paste to TextEdit and printing from there.
    Adobe makes it easier, but you do have software to accomplish this.
    Only download Adobe reader from this site, to avoid "fakes/spoofs/malware" that will cause damage to your machine.

  • Since I have installed iOS 6.1.3 on my iPhone 5 I have sometimes problems to start a phone call. Everything looks fine, but no ring tone... A workaround is to stop phone app in the multitasking bar. But this is more than inconvenient ;-) Any solution?

    In this cases everything looks fine, but no ring tone is there and after sometimes the phone informs me that no connection can be estabilished (its a German phone, therefore I am not sure about the message in English systems). A workaround is to stop the telephone app in the multitasking bar (double click on home button, hold the app symbol pressed for some seconds, close app). Next several call work after this.
    I am not sure if an incomming call would work in this mode...
    Faces anybody the same problems or has solution for it?

    I have Thunderbird version 24.3.0 downloaded to my Windows 7 computer.
    When I send an email in Thunderbird it looks fine and when the recipient receives it, it looks fine on the screen, but when she tries to print it, the font is unreadably small. This happens on every email I send her, but not other people's emails she receives. It has happened on some of the emails I receive back from her that contain the information I sent her.
    Is there a setting I need to fix or something I can do on my end to address this so this doesn't happen. She is receiving email through AOL online. I believe she is viewing it through either IE or Chrome.

    I recently tried sending myself an email through Thunderbird to another email account to see if that was the case, but the email came in with a font so tiny that it was unreadable. I had chosen a font type and size (arial 10) and just coming into my outlook inbox was virtually unreadable.
    And referring to the person I work with, she doesn't have problems getting anyone else's emails, just ones I send from Thunderbird.

    I unfortunately cannot remember where I got the 'trrndlines' plugin... I assume that it must have been from CFX (as it is located under /Users/Dom/Library/iMovie/Plug-ins/cfx/XXXtrrndlines.bundle).
    As for what it does, I also do not know, as I do not think I ever used it in my previous video projects.
    At this stage, I think I just need to uninstall it so that iMovie doesnt try to use it.
    Do you know how to uninstall a CFX plugin in iMovie?
    NOTE: I have re-installed iMovie 6.0.4 (instead of iMovie 6.0.3), but still encounter the same issue.

    The value of the Channel Strip volume etc is not stored within the C Strip setting, as you have discovered.
    If you really wanted, you could add a Gain plug to the strip, with it set to give the correct output level with the Fader set to 0
    (Or just set the fader manually in MS)

  • Static image looks fine in media pane but renders with problems

    I have a project in which I am placing a few static JPGs over the video portion for a few seconds at a time here and there to illustrate certain things a speaker is touching on. The JPGs are usually not quite big enough to cover the entire frame of the media pane, so I end up having to resize them and make them bigger to either cover the rest of the video that’s still showing, or to effectively ‘crop out’ a portion of the JPG that I don’t want to see in the final output.
    Everything looks fine in the media pane. The problem arises when I output the final video to FLV. Some of the JPGs look fine – just as they did in the media pane preview. But a lot of them end up showing portions that I had cropped out, or even portions of the video that I know were covered up. It appears completely random. And when I re-export and try again, sometimes the problem disappears.
    Windows XP SP3
    Adobe Premiere Elements 9.0
    Export format: FLV

    One JPG sample is 960x720 pixels.
    The Project Preset Frame Size is 1280x720 pixels.
    For this particular sample, I stretch the JPG so that the text at the bottom of it falls below the media pane (since both the JPG and the project have the same pixel height). It becomes a little more pixelated, but that's fine. Sometimes it does get cropped out of the final FLV, sometimes it doesn't...

    7.0 Upgrade your flash plugin to 9.0 and it should work fine in
