AE CC and Cineform

Hi,
Not sure if this is just me but i put it out there for more info.
In AE CS6 i can create a new 32 bit float comp and then in the output module switch to QuickTime and Cineform then i can see options for Millions and Trillions output. Doing the exact same thing in AE CC only shows the millions option.
So for all those using Cineform and AE CC - can you select trillions when you render?
thanks!
Paul

The CS5.x version of the QuickTime MediaCore XML file is named
MediaCoreQTCodecRulesCS5.xml and on Windows 7 is found in the user's AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Common folder. The CS5 version lacks the CFHD entries found in the CS6 and CC versions of the QT MediaCore XML file.
To enable the Trillions option for the GoPro Cineform codec in After Effects CS5.5, I copied these four CFHD lines from the CS6 XML file at the end of the QTCodec list in the CS5 XML file:
<QTCodec codec='CFHD' vendor='****' platform='mactel' direction='encode' versionlow='0x00000' versionhigh='*' gammatag='false' cvbuffertag='0' deepdecodefourcc='b64a' decodefourcc='argb' />

  • How do I install the DNxHD and Cineform codecs? (Missing from AME 6 )

I have downloaded the free versions of both of these codecs in the hopes of being able to transcode to each as an intermediate codec for my AVCHD files. The problem is that neither shows up in either my Premiere Pro CS6 or Adobe Media Encoder Import/Export options? What gives? Did I miss something here? How do I get the option to transcode or encode to DnxHD or Cineform on a PC version of CS6?

The solution by @soulelle above worked for me. I didn't even have to reboot.

I ran the installer, moved the files from "C:\Program Files (x86)\QuickTime\QTComponents\" to "C:\Program Files (x86)\QuickTime\QTSystem\", launched Premiere, and the Avid codecs were in the list!

  • CS5 and Cineform Converted Files

I have been having trouble trying to Import files into a new CS5 Project Panel.  The files in question are my original digitized (from Mini-DV) .mp4 video tapes.  The problem is that when I choose to Import and select the original digitized file, the progress bar at the lower right corner of the Premier Pro screen flashes by quickly to completion before disappearing, giving the impression that the file has imported.  However, the file (which shows up in the Project Panel) is not there at all.  There is just an alias of the imported file remaining.  There is also no progress bar as the file is indexed (I'm sorry, I forget the technical term) which led me to believe there was a problem.
I know the person who originally digitized these tapes used Cineform conversion.  I believe the reason at the time was to better work with After Effects?  I really can't say, however.
So my question is this:  Could the problem of not being able to Import these .mp4 files (a RAID drive inside my computer) into the Project Panel be because of the Cineform conversion done at the time?  If not, are there any other suggestions as to why these files wouldn't Import?  Everything I've found tells me that PP CS5 should be able to Import and edit .mp4 file types without any issues.
I would appreciate any advice on this as I am left with no alternative but to rent a Sony deck and redigitize all of my tapes in order to solve what I hope is the problem.  Naturally, this deck rental will be quite expensive and I don't want to spend that money if in fact, there is another reason for the .mp4 file rejection and I might still be able to use those original digitized files.
    Thanks much.
    Tom

    >files in question are my original digitized (from Mini-DV)
The usual process with Mini-DV tape cameras is to connect via Firewire and then you simply transfer the ALREADY DIGITIAL data from tape to computer (Firewire is nothing but a glorified serial port for file transfers)

  • Problem with Premiere CC and Cineform (Go Pro)

My Premiere CC was running without any problems unless I installed the GoPro Studio Software 2.0.0.285. After this the timline apears very slow and don't react anymore. I can not move the cursor and the timeline is frozen.
I uninstalled the GoPro Software, removed every entry in the registry, uninstalled Premiere and reinstalled it. But the problem still exists.
Any idea what I can do to avoid a complete new installation of Windows? I use Win 8.1 without any problems on CC until now.

This is an issue with GoPro Studio's latest installer. We'll be fixing it in the next release of GoPro Studio. in the meantime, you can resolve it by removing the CineForm entries in tthe following folder:

  • CS 6 and Cineform/Go Pro functional together?

Current degree of Cineform and Prem Pro CS 6.02 functionality?
    Gents:
I have both Neoscene 5.6.2 installed and a trial version of Studio Professional.
Recently upgraded to CS 6.02 and found 2 major problems with the above.
I refer to the main program console and not Firstlight ( Cineform files only) or HD Link.
    1) I own multiple Canon A1 and A1s HDV cams whose output/format is MPEG-2 which yields .files with the .m2t extension.
At present, in my case, although you can see the files in their original folders when attempting to import new files, when you select open nothing happens. Nothing is displayed in the main Go Pro Cineform Studio window!
    2) As an editor, I heavily rely on Cineforms video filters which can be found in the Efx panel in Premiere Pro. Examples include the color corrector.
Until CS 5.5, in my experience they worked perfectly however in CS 6.0+ they fail to do anything. It's very easy, quick and convenient to color correct a clip while its right on the timeline. Takes a few seconds. I utilize this resource often.
I mystified if its just me and what others experience has been.
Can you use Cineforms editing tools as intended and has been done historically up to now in Premiere Pro 6? if not is there a fix or update in progress?
Any ideas on how to rescue my situation?
Any input, suggestions and input welcome.
    Thanks.

I am pursuing that path which has not proved to be usefull or informative yet.
I was hoping to learn from actual end user experience.
    Thanks

  • Exporting from PPro CS3 -- lots of trial and error - and Cineform?

Rather than showing up on this forum out of nowhere and asking, "what is the best codec for exporting HDV edited material from PPro CS3 when the desired presentation is standard definition DVD" I thought I would do my homework first, and post my results. Then, if anyone has any suggestions on how to improve or if their mileage has varied from my results, I hope to learn from your comments.
My camera is a canon HV20, filming in 1080/60i and capturing using HDVSplit (due to premiere's inability to keep my audio and video in synch). I am operating in Windows XP Pro w/SP2 with a dual core AMD 6000+, 2GB dual channel DDR2 800 RAM. Seems powerful enough for me.
My finalists in terms of visual quality when burned to DVD using Encore CS3, 7MB 2 pass VBR, came down to these:
    1) H.264 max bit depth
    2) QT Animation Sorenson
    3) QT Animation Sorenson3
The H.264 takes a little longer to encode, but the visual quality wins out.
So, after doing this and reading posts on here about using Cineform AspectHD I thought I would download a trial and see what it does for me. The strange thing is, I don't seem to understand what advantage it offers, but surely it must be something since it costs $500!
After trying the Cineform trial for a couple of days, I'm not sure I understand what good it is doing. The CFHD files have to be rendered upon placing on the timeline, and they have longer render times when applying standard effects such as the Premiere color correction and time-remapping effects. No apparent difference in visual quality, but much larger file sizes to store. So why is it that folks use Aspect HD???
Hoping if you read this far you will share your preferred HDV-->SD export codecs and settings so I and others can learn from your efforts.
Oh yeah - and eventually, I will be purchasing a blu-ray burner so I want to export these same projects from Premiere into blu-ray format. But for now, it is standard def in 16:9 format.
Thanks for any comments or suggestions.
    MS

My computer is similar to Mystroh and Esc in KC. I am not as picky and I want to work in standard definition, I've been making movies in Premiere since version 5.5. In Premiere Pro version 2 I have been making movies using 3 different Sony videocams, usually about 30 minutes long, and exporting to tape and DVD.
So, I splurged for CS3 Production Premium and installed it. No problem.
I composed my first movie called 'Swindle Part 1'and exported it to Encore, (direct to DVD - no authoring) and it bombed near the end of the transcoding phase with the following message:
PGC "Swindle Part 1" has an error at 00;29;46;09. Internal software error: %0, line Swindle Part 1, ref = Bpgc, time = 00;29;46;09
The referenced timecode is one second from the end of the sequence.
I tried again with different clips in a different project and got the same error message.
I can successfully export this movie to tape and to a movie.
    Any ideas?

  • Help! Premiere Pro runaway timeline playback with multicam and Cineform Neo clips

    Hello,
I have experienced a problem with a "runaway timeline" in Premiere Pro CS5.5 - not always, but fairly often. Once playback begins, nothing short of restarting the computer can stop it.  I don't know if this is a bug that needs fixing or something else.  I am a recent Mac / FCP7 switcher to the Adobe product line.
My machine is a Sandy Bridge i7 quad core chip on Windows 7 with 16GB of RAM.  I do not have an Nvidia card in the system yet.  I am running Premiere Pro 5.5 using a multicam timeline with Cineform Neo clips at 1080p (four camera angles).  The initial "live edit" of the multicam went well, and I am now trying to go back and tweak the exact edits.  Playing back the multicam sequence to check the program edits has resulted in three "lock ups" where nothing will stop the playback (video and audio), not the space bar, mouse, escape key, nothing.  The mouse still moves normally but none of the buttons in Premiere Pro "click".  Interestingly, I can open other programs and hit restart on the computer, but the timeline just keeps on playing.  All clips are converted to Cineform Neo at 1080p.  The computer is showing 56% of CPU being used and roughly 45% of RAM.
I don't what other info would apply - no other apps are open when this happens and none were open before this (clean boot with Premiere being the first and only program run).
If anyone has any suggestions on how to fix or avoid this, I would be very appreciative.
    Thank you in advance,
    Videoguy 16x9

    Hi Jim,
Thank you for your reply.  I like the machine, and I did try the clips without converting but the HDV and DSLR clips alongside the XDCAM clips all in one multiclip really didn't flow so well.  I also love First Light for color grading and correction (part of Cineform Neo) - the color correction is all in the metadata, so there is no slow down or drag on the system during playback.
I have an OWC 4TB RAID connected via eSata which should be plenty fast, especially on the Sandy Bridge chipset and 16GB of RAM, but the clips just didn't feel light or zippy.  Coming from a Final Cut Pro background, I'm so used to transcoding everything to ProRes (and I used to be on Adobe and then Vegas so I was used to Cineform's workflow), that going back to Cineform seemed like a good solution.  Cineform is also the format we are using as a mastering format for program materials.
It all plays very well, the four cameras in the multiclip, the trouble is that as I'm watching the playback of the mixed multiclip, it just keeps on playing.  Nothing stops it, it's very weird.  Especially since it continues to playback perfectly and I can also open other apps and work around in them (trying to unstick Premiere).  Still the timeline continues to play, perfect video and sound without skipping a beat.  I haven't let it reach the end (long form program) so I don't know how that would affect it.  I wish I knew if it was a Premiere thing, a Cineform thing or something in the cross talk.  In any case, I seem to be the only one with this weird side effect.......

  • How do I play my completed 3D movies created with CS5.5 and Cineform  Neo3D?

I know how to display a video being edited with CS/Neo3D but how do I play it after the completed movie is rendered in its final form.
I have not been able to verify that I can use Quicktime 7 and the FBX QuickTime Viewer Plug-in from Autodesk?   I think you could output to a 3D TV connecting it to the Mac graphics card DVI output (with a HDMI 1.3 converter) using the 2nd Display option of Quicktime.  Will this accept a full 1920x1080 to each eye and include audio?  Can I put the 3D movie on a DVD to play directly on a 3D TV?  Thanks.

Following is the thing i found after many searched for you..
Anything goes awry in this unholy menage-a-trois that causes a hard shutdown, harms the OS and it is being a great reason subsequent failure to boot up due to a lockup at the "Welcome" splash screen, You will have to press the "enter" key with machine gun rapidity when the "Welcome" first starts moving and keep it up despite the little tone telling you to desist. It seems to work. I have run out of more logical solutions....
This is the only thing i can suggest for animated techniques whether in form of animated movies or anything else.

  • CS4 and Cineform

Hello all - Quick question for you. I'm working with my new Canon T2i, which saves H.264 .mov files. It's been suggested to me that I convert them to Cineform's AVI format for better color correction ability. But before I go shoot off $129 for the software, I wanted to know what preset I should be working with in CS4, or if I should be working with a preset at all? From what I've read, users of Cineform seem to suggest that a new preset should be created using the GENERAL tab when starting a new project. Is this the most efficient way to do this? The only reason I ask is that's how I've been working with the footage so far, since CS4 didn't have the 5D / 7D / 550D support. I hope to upgrade some time soon to CS5, but that's far off, most likely. My specs:
    Win 7
    CS4
    2.53 quad core
    4850HD video card
    8GB RAM
Thanks for any help you're able to offer!

That's what I've been doing so far, but just using the .mov files. I have to render them out before I can scrub through without any hang-ups. That's what I'm trying to avoid. Using HDV 1080p24, I won't have to render incoming cineform AVI files?

  • MainConcept and Cineform plugins

    folks, please suggest:
Is there any danger of installing any of above mentioned plugins?
Can they be installed on one system?
What would YOU use in oder to work VOB files easily?
Will any of above help to import xxx.mp4 file into Premier?
    Thank you!

Yes, both can be installed on the same system. I would try (trial version) MPEG PRO HD for the VOB files, that you can rename to MPEG for editing (unless the VOB contains AC3 sound, then you may need to demux and convert the audio to WAV). The choice between Aspect and Prospect is mainly 8 versus 10 bit encoding. Whether that is worth the price difference depends on your editing needs, like color grading, keying, etc.

  • Blue screen of death, surprise restarts, and some captured clips distorted, with blocky artifacts!

    Hello,
I've been using my set-up (Premiere Pro 2.0* with Cineform AspectHD) successfully for years, to capture and edit footage. But just recently, my computer has given me the blue screen of death after capturing for about 5-10 minutes or caused my computer to restart in the middle of capturing. I've also noticed that the resulting captured clips are, in some places, distorted and contain blocky artifacts. It isn't a problem with the tape because the footage plays just fine on the camera's preview monitor. I tried re-installing Premiere Pro 2.0 and Cineform AspectHD, but the problem persisted after a successful, but brief capture session (the resulting clips were still distorted and contained blocky artifacts). I have no idea what the problem is! One solution I attempted was to capture on another computer in my house, using the same software. Although I didn't get the blue screen of death or a surprise restart, the captured clips were still distorted and contained blocky artifacts in some spots. Another option I tried, with the second computer, was deselecting the Scene Detect option in the capture dialogue box. As a result, the captured clips are free of distortion and blocky artifacts, but the problem is that the captured clips are too big and very difficult to manage (I shoot a lot because I'm a filmmaker and I'm in the middle of a big project). Why is this happening?!
Any help with this problem would be greatly appreciated!
*I'd use a later version of Premiere, but I spent a lot of money on Cineform AspectHD and the version of Cineform I have only works with Premiere Pro 2.0.

I agree with John T. BSOD's are most often caused hardware issues, such as overheating of a component, or a failing, or undersized PSU.
Also, general system drivers can cause failure. Often, those are outlined (though maybe not in really adequate detail) in the Event Viewer's log. In that article, that John T. linked to, there is another link to "Finding Clues." It goes into more detail on using Event Viewer to explore warning, or error messages. If your testing of your system's components and heat, do not yield a weak link, see that one (no pun intended). It is in Reply # 3.

  • AE CC 2014 Corrupted and Glitched frames when rendering to Quicktime

Ever since upgrading to the newest version of After Effects, I've been getting corrupted and glitched frames when rendering videos with a Quicktime holder.  My normal workflow is rendering the video straight out of AE, but it also happens when rendering with Adobe Media Encoder, or even while using the "BG Renderer" script for AE that renders from the terminal.  It happens whether I have multiprocessing enabled or not.
The corruption differs depending on what codec I'm using, but in the Cineform Codec it shows up as green frames:
On DNxHD they show up as Red frames (don't have a screencap of this one but you get the idea).
Using the QT Animation Codec they show up as static or distortion:
I have not found a codec that does not become corrupted when encased in the QT holder.  Image sequences render out fine, and Cineform with an AVI holder renders out fine.
Even more strangely, I can fix the problem if I link the AE composition to Premiere, then render the QT file out through Premiere itself.  The fact that Premiere calls and renders the Comp fine but AE does not, makes me think this is a bug in AE's treatment of Quicktime rather then a driver/system incompatibility on my end.  But I'm certainly willing to try any suggestions the community might have for me =]

  • Replacing Assets Works, and Doesn't Work.

I'm using a Dell 720 PC, QuadCore processor, Windows XP with all current service packs and patches, 4GB RAM, and Premier Production Studio CS3 (with all patches).
I have a dual-boot system, with a "Clean" install (only the OS, Premier, TMPGEncXpress and Cineform NeoScene) on one disk, and a "Messy" install on another disk (all the above listed software, plus everything else under the sun, including anti-virus and anti-spyware software, email/ftp clients Nero 7 etc).
I have an HD (1440x1080, 30FPS) project which was originally created on the Messy system. It's about 8 minutes long and created with a Canon XH-A1. The project consists of a video file (created in Adobe Media Encoder from the original Premier Pro CS3 project), one menu, one sub-menu, and two audio tracks.
I booted to the Clean system and opened the project. I had done some work on the audio tracks, and rather than re-do the entire DVD and menus, I used Encore's "Replace Asset" feature and swapped the old audio track with the new one. No problem.
Then I wanted to replace the main video asset with another, slightly higher quality version. I used the "Replace Asset" feature, as above, to replace the old video (a 250 MB M2V file) with the new one (also an M2V file, just slightly larger).
It seems Encore replaces the video in a 2-step process. The progress bar zipped across to 100% on the first step, then rapidly went to 50% on the second step. From there, the time-to-completion indicator continued to increase, but the process never progressed past 50%. I looked at Windows' Task Manager, and my Quad Core processor was running at 25% overall and there was almost no disk activity. After 5 minutes, I cancelled the operation. Encore never recovered, and I had to kill it. I tried again, with the same results.
I tried the exact same steps on the Messy Windows installation, and had no trouble replacing the video asset (it took about 6 seconds), so "something" on the Clean system is screwed up. I'd actually expect the Clean system to be the more reliable of the two!
Do you think a reinstall of Encore is the only way to solve this? Has anyone else experienced this problem, and if so, what was the solution?
    Thanks.

Are you using the same file name to replace the assets?
If so - try using a different name for each incremental version instead as the cache might be getting confused/corrupted due to (apparent) multiple instances of the same asset.
Failing that, what happens if you create new timelines instead of attempting to replace?

  • Cineform Codec crashes Media Encoder CS4

Trying out current trial version of Cineform Neoscene. Regardless of Codec settings, exporting with Cineform Codec crashes my AME (PPro CS4). Eventually only a hard reboot will get things running again. Other codecs work fine.  Hoping for some suggestions to rectify this.
I need to render Intermediates - one of 3 project tapes (all of them HD footage from an XHA1 on brand new tapes) is corrupted and I have to slide the audio around and export synchronized clips as this tape's footage captures with dropped/red frames resulting in shifted (not drifting, aparrently) audio/video sync. (Same - or worse - capture problem with HDV split and Cineform capture also. Gave up on digesting synched footage after days of attempts.) Have succesfully captured many hours of DV with the system except from this one tape.
The export problem occurs with any footage (uncorrupted included) I put on a timeline in any format of project I've tried (DV included). It occurs whether PPro is running, minimized, or closed when AME is run.
(This install of CS4 has been working okay otherwise, though - to solve some recent performance slow-downs and crashes-on-quit - I could not reinstall the programme unless I added a second user/admin account. Adobe don't know why.)
I've ensured firewall and antivirus are off when both installing/reinstalling all this and when running these exports. XPpro is a new install with all drivers and components up to date. Bios recently flashed to current.
I'm otherwise having modest success doing this small HD project on a lowish-spec pair of PCs (one's a backup) and rented cameras in part to determine my next upgrade (PPro PC or Mac, FCP - not sure what HD camera)to an HD-optimized system.
The spec I'm using is minimal but acceptable for getting something out of Cineform, according to the readme. I would expect that at least the lowest settings would work, but all crash identically - within a few seconds after "Start Queue" is clicked; always before any progress is tabulated/shown.  A crash notice replaces AME, including a window to report the crash to Adobe. I dispatch that and try again. Eventually the system goes up to 100% CPU use after one of these crashes and stays there despite attempts from panes or Task Mgr to close Ppro/AME. Each AME attempt adds another instance of PProHeadless to the Process list, but the performance is equally crashy from first through to the final attempt.
I've tried every solution my research has unearthed. Suggestions appreciated.

    GEforce 8800 GT
    7200 RPM SATA drives

Yes, as I noted, capturing this problem footage as HD in any way nets out of sync so that's off the table.
And yes Ann, thanks, it gives those minimums on the CF download page and I'm pushing the envelope with this exploration. Nevertheless, CF's readme gives P4 as a minimum - perhaps a complete error but I've assumed more a matter of degree of performance rather than absolute failure at the spec I'm attempting.
I'm finding that I'm able to off-line edit in SD and then render subsituting identical HD clips with any other  codec I've chosen on this system - that's the workflow I'm having success with.  (So being able to generate  identical clips between the SD and HD is crucial. Hence ideally being able to work with the longest possible clip of agglomerated shots, logging it and down-resing it as one operation, and not needing to down-res render a myriad of individual clips.)
Maybe the descrepancy between download page and Readme is a complete error, but it's lead me to expect that the codec would be just painfully slow with this system. That would not prevent using it to render (only to edit.)
Thanks for your thoughts.  It may indeed not work at all with CF, and in that case I'll probably use Lagarith (aparrently lower quality, but it works on this system) but I was hoping to find a way to make CF work. If this problem is in fact a minimum spec issue - and it looks likely, doesn't it - it will be the first tech problem I'm had where the actual problem was an obvious one! (They're often system configuration, conflict, or - usually - undocumented settings issues.)

  • Is ProRes as good as Cineform?

I have 720p HDV material shot on green screen and wondering wether ProRes or Cineform would be best for compositing. My cameraman has shown me the material perfectly composited in Cinefomr using Premiere CS3 on WinVista. When I try it in FCP and After Effects in ProRes I never get rid of the fringing around the hair of the person in the shot.
So ProRes and Cineform both claim to use 10bit 4:2:2 but has anyone had much experience using both codecs?
    Kevin

My cameraman has shown me the material perfectly composited in Cinefomr (sic)
As mentioned...it all depends on the SOURCE material. HDCAM SR, FILM, Digibeta...high end shooting formats are easier to key...there is more information there. Stuff like DV, HDV...even XDCAM...are highly compressed formats and getting a clean key isn't as easy. It can be done, but there is a tad more work involved.
4:1:1 formats (DV) and 4:2:0 formats (HDV, XDCAM) are harder to pull a clean key. Missing color information makes it so. Doesn't matter if you make it 4:2:2 later...the information is already gone.
