AE CC Cache folder gets deleted

Every now and again and usually after a crash, when I start up AE I get a message saying that the AE media cache folder does not exist. When I check on my drive for that folder, AE is quite right - it is not there. I use a seperate SSD for all my media caching and another drive for footage and another as my strartup drive. I set AE to use a folder called A:\AE Cache. For whatever reason AE is deleting this folder. Other folders on this drive remain as they are. Unless I have a goblin sneaking into my suite on a night deleting this folder or Windows decides to delete this folder all on it's own then it is almost definitely AE that is doing it.

Sorry I've lead you up the wrong path. It's my disk cache that keeps on disappearing, the shared media cache is fine. I've changed my drive letter from A to M since my first post.

We are working on BODS v4.1 SP2 and it looks like some log files in the application server are taking about 30GB of space.
The folder path on the server is
Program Files (x86)\SAP BusinessObjects\Data Services\Log\Cache
and the 4 files are named
PPF_file_21_116_56_1761_1_0_21
PPF_file_21_116_56_1761_1_1_21
PPF_file_21_116_56_1761_1_2_21
PPF_file_21_116_56_1761_1_3_21
Will there be any impact if these files are deleted from the above folder? Anybody has come across this issue before?

Hi Sriram,
Log files are generally .txt which won't occupy much space. But .dmp files occupy huge amount of space and is better to remove it once in a while. Both log and dmp files can be removed to free the disk space. The files in pcache folder are used while running the job because your jobs are executed with pageable cache and not in-memory, hence those files are needed while running the job.

Pacman -Sc chnged behavior, network-cached packages get deleted!

As of V 3.1 pacman -Sc changed behavior to delete all but the installed packages on one machine. I use a network shared pacman cache as described in this wiki entry:

This change killed the ability to only keep the newest packages in cache. If I do a
pacman -Sc
it deletes all packages that are not installed on this particular machine. If you have several machines with different setups this is not what is intended. Wouldn't it have been better to leave pacman -Sc as is and introduce a new option? Is there a way to work around that or do I have to keep track of whats new by myself?

Indeed, there are still problems remaining. If there are different repos enabled on different machines, the sync database of the actual machine where the script is started is used as reference. If others have more repos enabled, for example 'testing' these packages will be deleted, even if newer. Don't know how to work around this one by now. But my machines all have the same repos enabled, so it won't hurt me much.

But actually I wouldn't change it back either, because the majority of users will need the current implementation. I would tend to make it an extra option, if possible.
Sorry if it wasn't clear, that's what I was asking, which extra option it could be?
Because we would need a clear name and/or shortname to avoid confusing users with two different -Sc behaviors possible.

Protect a folder from deletion

I have a sharepoint folder that I want to protect from being deleted. The folders within change so users need to be able to read write within the folder.
I have used ACLs at the custom level and removed ability to delete the parent folder. However, when I attempt to delete the parent folder to test, a dialogue window comes up to tell me I do not have permissions to delete, and when I ok that window, the contents of the parent folder gets deleted.
Try as I might I have been unable to find the write combo of permissions to prevent the contents being deleted with the parent protected from deletion.
Any suggestions would be most welcome!

You could look at creating a 'Commons" folder. It can be a bit tricky at first, but if you work with it I think you can get what you want. Search for 'Commons". This document is geared toward 10.5 server, but ACL's were introduced in 10.4 server, so it should be doable.

[SOLVED] directory /run/mpd gets deleted at reboot

I had MPD up and running, everything worked fine, until reboot.
I then found out, that the folder /run/mpd which should contain mpd.pid gets deleted at reboot.
Why does this folder get deleted?
When i manually create the folder again and chown it to mpd, it all works fine again.

man tmpfiles.d - if you look at the files provided by the mpd package, you'll see a file mpd.conf in /usr/lib/tmpfiles.d which should generate the directory on boot.
(also, the systemd service for a separate-user mpd doesn't need the pidfile at all)

File name with symbols won't delete from trash.cache\trash\cache folder.

found this weird file name with symbols (squares nad the like) in the trash.cache\trash\cache folder. Can't seem to delete it from windows, can't get at from the dos prompt. Windows safe mode won't delete it.
Any suggestions as to what it is and how to get rid of it.
At present am trying reinstall of firefox and virus scan.

I tried to do the instructions Adobe gave me but when
I put in the disc that came with my mac and hold down
C when it restarts it takes me to the screen to do a
fresh install.
At that point go to the Menu & select Disk Utility - I can't remember exactly which menu but you should be able to find it easily... there isn't too much there

and for somereason the option to repair isnt
highlighted and it wont let me click it. I tried to
repair permissions/verify but it doesnt change
anything. I looked at the info and it says the volume
can be repaired, but it wont let me.
You can't Repair the disk the system is currently running the OS from - That's why you have to boot from the Installer disk (or some other start-up disk). Repair Disk addresses directory structure issues - totally separate from what Repair Permissions does.

Is it safe to delete everything in my Caches folder?

This folder tends to get very large, with thousands of files in it. I already have an AppleScript to automatically do my cron jobs and I was thinking of adding a command to delete the *entire contents* of my Caches folder every day as well.
Is it safe to do this?

But some of the third party applications may ask your permission when you want to open files associated to those applications.

Recently, I keep receiving notice of "Hard Disk is Full - You have run out of disk space on drive C. To free space on this drive by deleting old or unnecessary files, click Disk Clean-up". But after I removed a substantial sizes of files to another drive, in a short while, the notice reappear again. I was puzzled and take a check on the files and folders in drive C and realized the problem came from those unknown files in the folder named Cache.Trash (not the normal Cache folder although they are located side by side). Some files sizes are shockingly large ranging from 2GB to 5GB. They have strange and difficult to identify File Name and File Types. When I checked the Properties of those files, they have unknown MS-DOS name, Created, Modified and Accessed dates. When I tried to delete those files directly, a notice of "Error Deleting File: Cannot delete file: File system error (1026)" appeared. Note: There are still many Free Space available in other disk drives. Any idea please?

There is no session crash here. On others start, the Cache.Trash folder and its contents still there. When a ScanDisk program is performed, after some time, a notice appeared, "ScanDisk has restarted 10 times because Windows or another program has been writing to this drive. Quitting some running programs may enable ScanDisk to finish sooner. Do you want to continue receiving this warning?" So I closed any other running application and program and restart the ScanDisk program again. After some time, the notice appeared again. I clicked No to indicate do not want to continue receiving this warning and the program keep repeating running.....how long will the program take?

Gmail stops working until i delete the offline cache folder. why?

Using the Apple Mail Client, my G-Mail account stops updating every couple weeks. I found through forums that if I delete the offline cache folder (it's hidden, library-mail-account) everything goes back to normal. Why is this happening and why hasn't it been fixed? I'd appreciate any insight!

Since it doesn't happen to gMail on several Macs & OSX versions from 10.4.5 to 10.7.4 & beyond, I suspect Disc corruption, or possibly RAM, have you checked either?

Temporaryitems folder in cache- Can I delete it's contents?

HI all,
I'm just discovering that the Cache folder is the culprit in taking up most of my Disk space, as I always use an external hard drive for all of my content. So--how do I delete the cache folder contents? I discovered that the largest folder in there is called "Temporaryitems" and has only two things that are amounting to 40 gigs of space. Can I delete these things or will it reak havoc?
I've search the web for an hour and didn't find anything specific to this question.

I create a lot of project folders where i keep all my conversations regarding the project. Once the project is finished i would like to just delete the folder and get rid of all the emails associated with it but when i delete the folder i've noticed that only received messages are deleted. Now I am stuck trying to sort through my sent folder for messages that were returned there after the conversations was supposedly deleted.

Mail/Preferences/Viewing - un-check include related messages, delete the folder, then go back and reset yo include.

This sounds like the 100andro album was created on the PC and synced from the computer. The best option would be to move the unwanted images from the album you are syncing. The other option would be to create an album specifically for your iOS device, put photos you want in that album and only sync that album.
To delete synced photos and videos from your device
In iTunes, click the Device button in the upper right corner. (If viewing the iTunes Store, click the Library button in the upper-right corner first.)
Click the Photos tab in the resulting window.
Choose "Selected albums" and deselect the albums or collections you want to delete.
Note: To delete all synced photos, deselect "Sync Photos from" and, when asked, click "Remove photos."
Click Apply.

Why does cache automatically gets cleared

since the latest update of my firefox my cache are getting cleared automatically after a 2 to 3 days.... i have read u r earlier post n nothing helps , i have done everything and even re-installed my operating system....all this is happening after installing the latest firefox .... please if you have any real fix that actually helps and not the same old replies , please help ..i can't daily keep waiting for my cache to reload ....

oh and it failed too all my 350 mb of cache is gone now, i play online games daily and this stupid firefox expects me to load daily so much of cache each and every time?????.... i stored cache from firefox profile folder as a backup but everytime i replace it it again auto deletes it.... i should have sticked with google chrome ....never again firefox ...damn
