AE CC UI lag / slowness / hanging, seems to be due to card wipe

EDIT - THIS SEEMS TO BE RELATED TO CARD WIPE?  I am using it heavily, and when I turn it off, the behavior below seems to subside. However, this was all working fine earlier today. Any insights as to why this would happen all of a sudden would be great!
Just this afternoon I started experiencing major lag in my top-level composition.
I've seen other threads similar, but this seems weird in that in nested comps or new projects I'm not seeing the same lag.
Symptoms:
QAll of the following produce a 1-2 second lag
clicking on or off visibility/audio
copying, pasting, undoing, redoing via keyboard shortcut (seems as if single key shortcuts are OK? ie [, ], home, b, n, pgup, pgdn <edit - i just used j successfully and got lag on [, so I'm boggled>)
twirling down project panel folders
drag-scrolling in project panel
It is very odd in that the lag is predominant, but not 100% consistent.
Windows 7
corei7 3.5
16GB
120GB ssd
nVidia GeForce 220
AECC 12.2
rebuilt prefs,
emptied caches,
reduced project,
rendered large video files to be smaller
turned off all antivirus/persistent bg apps
Any insight would be extremely appreciated, this just sort of cropped up this afternoon.
edit: oldest autosave version also exhibits this behavior. talk about an elusive issue.

To both the questions, I am basically using card dance <EDIT I meant card wipe> to go back and forth between two comps so I can use the transition several times in a 90 sec piece.
The effect is on the "front" source comp and the "back" layer is a second comp of about 90 secs. Any compression on source video I've done has been just h264, and the project is 8bpc at this point. I'm animating a lot of vectors, text, and the like. But I've replaced footage with proxies to no avail.
do i need to split this up into several instances of card wipe to go back and forth and still have a working UI? It's just such a beast to deal with timing changes down the pipeline when the source gets fragmented like that so I am trying to avoid.
It just seemed odd how it will still render just as quick as usual, and it's specifically ui, shortcuts, marquee selecting keyframes that are acting slower.

  • Quicklook lagging & slow

i don't know when. but just these few days i notice my quick look slow down when I zoom it to full page, no matter it's a complex or just a simple text file.
it will still lag(slow refresh rate on the screen).
    I don't have this before.
the last I did was update to 10.5.6 and installed smart scroll app.
    any ideas?

    Hello,
"the last I did was update to 10.5.6 and installed smart scroll app."
It helps to read the information about these updates before you install. An easy way to view this information is to run the Software Update from the Apple Menu/Software Updates. In the update window, there will be a link you can click to take you to that page. Here's the link for the 10.5.6 update: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3194
This update could have an adverse effect on 3rd party software. However, there is help here for SmartScroll: http://marcmoini.com/sxfaq_en.html
Very important; Always run Disk Utility and Repair Disk Permissions before and after all software updates. Launch Disk Utility. Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select FirstAid, then click: Repair Disk Permissions. Quit DU when it's finished and reboot.

  • My IPhone doesn't seem to have a sims card tray. Please help

My IPhone doesn't seem to have a sims card tray. I would like to change the sims card but I can not find the sims card tray. I have looked on the right side and on top of my phone but its not there. I have a Iphone4 and Verizon as my carrier. How do I change my sims? Or can I change my sims card? Please help me I would greatly apperciate it.

The Verizon iPhone 4 is a CDMA phone and as such has no SIM. Ergo there's no way to change a SIM and no way to use the phone with another carrier, if that's what you wanted to do.

    Hey everybody,
I would like to purchase the  phoyoshop+lightroom programm but I constantly get the following error message:
"Your billing address doesn't seem to match the credit card you entered. Check to make sure you entered this information correctly, and if you still can't place your order, please call us at +1 800-585-0774. If you're not in North America, you can look up a local number here."

I have the same issue. Haven't been able to get any work done for almost a week now. I have contacted the support chat 8 times by now - most unhelpful support ever. They all give me the same advice even though i say that i already tried that as if they are reading their answers off a pre-written sheet.
I have tried 2 credit cards, i have confirmed everything, including the address, with my bank - all good there. Desperate for help, my boss is gonna have my balls soon -.-

  • S5000 4.4.2 OTA lag/slow system-wide, don't update!

Just installed the 4.4.2 on my S5000-H (3G version) and it lags like hell. The whole system. It used to be fairly snappy but now everything takes maybe a half second, even bringing up recent apps list or pressing home button. I feel it's a real downgrade, even typing seems slow, like an old single core phone running 4.3, not a quad running 4.4!
I tried changing to ART & it rebooted but only took normal boot time, no app reoptimising, so I guess it's not switched?
Can you push a fix (btw, Capservice is killing my battery, whatever it is) our let us downgrade? Otherwise I'll have to do a warranty return

    **bleep** is this "CapService" ?
It appeared after the KitKat 4.4 Update. I cannot deactivate it and it kills my battery!

  • MacBook Pro typing lag, slow performance, bad battery

I upgraded to my current MBP from my last MBP because the older one wasn't perfoming well. Now I'm having the same issues with my new MBP.
Current: 2012 15" MBP Retina Display, 2.6 i7 Quad Core, 16 GB RAM, 500 GB SSD, running OS X 10.8.3 and Windows 7
Old:  2010 13" MPB 2.26 Intel Core 2 Duo, 4 GB RAM, 250 GB HD, running OS X10.8 - starting running slowly after I loaded Lion
There is a crazy tying lag and it takes forever to type anything. It's frustrating not seeing what is going on. I'm trying to do my school work but it's impossible since everything takes forever and I make so many mistakes.  If I move the cursor at al before the lag is over and what I typed finishes , it starts writing the text where I move the cursor.  Then if I try to delete anything, it gets worse.
Worst part - THIS computer works faster than the newer pros:  13" White Macbook - 1.82 GHz Intel Core Duo, 1 GB RAM, 80 GB Hard Drive w/Snow Leopard
I'm so incredibly frustrated right now.  I never had these issues on the Dells or other cheaper notebooks I owned.
Web pages seem to load fine, but I'm unable to scroll for about a minute after the pages load and typing is awful.  I've had issues with one browser window open and nothing else running (broswer doesn't matter. It's slow in Safari and Chrome.)
Also my battery lasts about 100 minutes with both operating systems in use.  It goes down 1% every minute!

As far as the battery I'd recommend calibrating it and taking care of it per these two articles:
    http://www.apple.com/batteries/
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1764220
On your slow booting issue check System Preferences-Accounts-Login Items and then see if you have applications that are loading that you don't need. If you do highlight them and click the - at the bottom of the box.

  • MacBook Pro suddenly really slow, hangs often

My MacBook Pro is about 2 years old. It had been slowing down and occasionally running out of memory, which I figured was due to the fact that my hard disk was kind of full (had about 100 Gig of space available, which I thought should be enough, but whatever). But in the past 2 days this has gotten really, really worse. It's almost unusable. It's running Snow Leopard.
It takes a full 5 mibutes to start.
When I open an application it takes really long to open, then evey few things I do it hangs for a couple of minutes with the rainbow wheel spinning. Occasionally an application completely stops responding, and has to be force quit.
This even happens if I have only one app open at a time.
    What has changed recenttly:
    • 2 weeks ago I switched from DSL to cable. I have a new cable modem and wireless router. There is some random software that Comcast sent me but I don't think it's even installed.Things were still running slow and frustrating but pasable after that.
    • 5 days ago I bought a new Droid 3 cell phone, and installed The Missing Sync on my computer to sync music, photos and calendar. It still ran slow after that, but not crazy messed up like now. I don't remember if the speed seemed any worse -- I just know that it didn't hang often the way it does now.
    • 2 days ago I bought a new MacBook Pro with a faster processor, runnign Lion. I started migration assistant, then realized it was going to take 14 hours and I had work to do, so I stopped the assistant. and decided to run it again later. I think it's since then things became a complete mess, and every day that passes seems worse.
    • In the meantime, I may or may not have installed some software updates. I get update notices all the time, and generally install them right away without giving them much thought. In fact, now that I think of it, Firefox startded acting pretty slow after the last update (spinning wheel when opening new tabs, loading information, switching from one tab to the other), which I attributed to a buggy new release but it might be related. I don't know how long ago that was; I think about a week or two. There may have beensome OS udates too, I can't remember.
I did run migration assistant again late last night, after cleaning out my old hard disk (backing things up to DVDs and external drives) so it would have less data to transfer. But it transfered over everything, including old apps thatI don't need and don't know how to uninstall, and I am worried that I might have transeferred over whatever the problem was with the old computer. I can't easily test because the apps that I use every day (Microsoft Office 2008 and the Adobe Creative Suite CS4) don't run on Lion so I will have to buy upgrades for everythign before I can do any work on this computer, which is quite frustrating in itself but a different story. So I haven't been able to test whether my new laptop has the same problem; it does generally seem faster but not as much of a speed increase as I had hoped.
I ran disk utility on the old laptop, and it did find some directory issues, but I can't repair it because I don't have any discs to start up from. Why is it that Apple doesn't ship disks with its software? Granted, my new laptop runs a different operating system from the old one, but I didn't receive any system disks with it so I really don't have anything to start externally from if there ever are any problems.
I want to keep the old mac. I occasionally travel to countries where I don't feel comfortable bringing a new expensive computer, so I intend to use my old computer as a travel laptop and the new one as my primary work laptop in my home office. But that means that I don't want to have to throw out the old one, I need to get it working again.
(also, until I install the Microsoft and Adobe upgrades, I can't do any work on my new laptop and I have deadlines to meet that I will need to continue working on with the old laptop) (which, in fact, makes thisissue rather urgent -- I ned to keep working while it's being resolved)

OK, so someine suggested I run AppleJack -- it did make some repairs and now Disk Utility doesn't see anything wrong with my directory, but still finds some permissions problems. Almost all of them seem to be in System/Library/CoreServices/Front Row.app. Says:
should be -rw-r--r--, they are lrw-r--r--
Do I need to fix these or can I leave as is? What is Front Row? Does it make any difference who has permissions on these if they are for a program I don't use?
    Also:
stalling problems seem to have been resolved for now (I opened 3 different apps and they seemto work OK). But I still have a problem with the Microsoft Office applications -- I can't easily switch to/from Excel or Word from/to any other apps, I can't CTRL-TAB and select the app, I have to go to that app's window (means moving other windows around until I can see it) and click on it to switch to that app. It's doable but a nuisance. Can it be fixed?
    Also - important:
Would the directory problems I had on my old hard disk have affected the information I ported over to the new laptop yesterday? Will I have the same problems on my new laptop? I can't check because I haven't downloaded the upgrades to Microsoft Office and to the Adobe CS Suite, so I pretty much can't open hardly any programs on my new machine right now.  I thought maybe I should run Applejack on that too, just to check, but apparently it doesn't work with OSX 7 Lion.

  • IMac OS X performing slow/hangs

My iMac system is performing slower than expected and often hangs. I often wait up to a minute for the next action to happen, while the little cursor sits and spins. What to do? Frustrating.
    System specs that seem pertinent:
4G memory (2 slots taken; 2 slots free)
storage report says 176G free out of 499G
    OS X, 10.8.2
    Thanks, Apple community.

Most often this indicates you are running to many applications concurrently for the amount of physical RAM you have installed. It may also mean you have a crashed process:
Open Activity Monitor in the Utilities folder.  Select All Processes from the Processes dropdown menu.  Click twice on the CPU% column header to display in descending order.  If you find a process using a large amount of CPU time (>=70,) then select the process and click on the Quit icon in the toolbar.  Click on the Force Quit button to kill the process.  See if that helps.  Be sure to note the name of the runaway process so you can track down the cause of the problem.
While Activity Monitor is open click on the System Memory tab in the bottom portion of the AM window. Use COMMAND-SHIFT-4, use the crosshairs to select this portion of the AM window, then use the Camera icon of this message composition window to post the image here.

  • Fusion Drive, 27" iMac lags, slow

I'm using a new iMac with 3Tb fusion drive (16Gb RAM) to run Final Cut Studio 3 (fcp7).
The experience is slow and laggy. Commands in the top menu (File, Edit, View, etc) require 2-3 seconds for the menu to drop down, and I get a spinning beachball while I wait.
I'm wondering if I can get the app I'm using to load onto the SSD portion of the drive, although I know there isn't anyway to control this. Apple says, the machine will just know what apps I'm using frequently, and move files in the background to increase the speed.
It's been three days with FCP open nearly all day, and still it lags. (Commands like SAVE shouldn't result in beachballs)
Is the new iMac or fusion drive unsuitable to run FCS 3?
Switching to a different editing software is not a reasonable option for me currently.
Should I trade this macine in favor of a spinning drive instead?
Any advice and insight will be apreciated.
    thank you.
    -T

update: My slow video edit issue doesn't seem related to the Fusion Drive in my 27imac. Problem was solved by running FCS under a different user name.
Not sure exactly what the problem was, but since it's a new machine, starting a new user wasn't difficult.
And the machine is very noticeably more zippy. Boots and app launches are excellent.

  • Typing Lag / Slow

I have a Powerbook 15" with 1 gig of RAM.
I'm not sure if this is a software problem or not, but I'm sure others have had this problem.
At times when I'm typing in a text field on the net - I use Firefox, so it could be an issue with that - but there is a considerable lag between when I type something and when it comes up. This results in me typing a bunch and my letters lagging behind it, which is infuriating, to say the least.
I mostly notice this when I'm typing email in my web based email program, which makes letters in HTML. I tried the same thing in Safari and it didn't seem to have that problem. Any help would be appreciated.

    Off the top of my head;
    General maintenance;
    a) Check how much disk space your're using. If close to full, free some up.
    b) I heard recently that having a desktop full of icons can have a marginal slowing effect, consolidate them into a folder.
    c) Repair disk permissions - in Apps, Utilities, Disk Utility - under first aid select your hard drive and run repair.
    d) Daily/Weekly/Monthly maintenance. Go to www.versiontracker.com and download "macjanitor" and run the daily, weekly and monthly tasks one after the other - warning - the monthly task takes a while.
    e) Check that this behaviour only happens in webmail - ie does it happen in any other programs - if it happens in other progams it sounds like the whole computer is slowing down, if only in webmail, I'd look at the web connection and internet speed or the webmail provider as it could be that the server at their end is slowing you down.
    f) Personally, I'm not a huge fan of webmail for general use. I find popmail (where you use a mail program like Apple Mail to pick up the mail and deliver it to your computer much better). It means that you can read and write mail without being on the web, and you just use your connection for sending and receiving mail. Many providers let you use pop to download a copy of mail to your computer while still keeping a copy on their servers so that you can access your mail via webmail as well, if for example you are away from your machine.
    g) Lastly, perhaps you should do this first, go to system profiler and check that all of your memory is showing up - if you go to the Apple menu on the top left, about this mac and more info you'll get the profiler.
    h) Also if you run the Activity monitor, also found in the utilities folder - you can click on it when you get this slow behaviour to see what the CPU and memory usage is - it is not impossible that some other process is kicking in.
    i) On the same subject you might the firefox preferences file is causing the problem. Go to library, firefox and copy any preferences files relating to firefox into a separate folder, then delete the originals - Firefox will create new ones when you start and revert Firefox back to it's orinal state - if this works then that is the answer, if not replace the newly created prefs files with the old ones you just backed up.
    Best of luck.

  • Photoshop CC 2014 - Interface Lag, Slow to Update

    Hello,
This issue appears on both OSX 10.9.5 Mavericks on an iMac 2.9 Ghz i5, 8GB Ram, 512 vRam Graphics NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660M and on a MacBookPro Late 2013 with 2.4GHZ Quad i7, 16GB Ram, 2GB vRam Geforce (Don't have laptop in front of me for exact settings at the moment)
It doesn't occur ALL the time but very frequently. The issue is that I will be working on a file with multiple layers of all sorts, shapes and sizes, then I will SAVE that file, CLOSE it and the go to work on another file and the layers from the previous file are still showing on the Layers Panel. If I go to click on a layer, the old layers will vanish but the layer I selected would be wrong. If I go to select the next layer it will highlight the one I had previous selected, then if I click on a different layer, it would highlight the one I was just trying to select. Like there is a lag in between what is actually selected and what is highlighted.
When this happens ALL of the UI starts to lag. The Character and Paragraph boxes start to lag, for example: trying to set text size or Leading, I would go to type in my size and it won't show. I will tab out of it and it still won't show. If I click off of it and back into it it will refresh and finally be updated to what I entered.
The Tool Bar at the top, I guess is what its called? Where you have your Brush settings if you have the brush tool active, or you have some text settings visible when the text tool is active, this will also be lagged. If I have the Brush tool selected, the Move Tool settings will be showing.
It's all very laggy. I can fix it by quitting Photoshop and re-starting it, but seeing how this happens almost after every file I open it's a major pain since I build like 30 a day where I work.
It's not all the time and there isn't a real rhyme or reason to it. It some times just happens after a long period of time. And it isn't directly relative to how many things I have going on outside of Photoshop. Most of the time I have Chrome running, Mac Mail, Photoshop, Illustrator, Filezilla, Distiller and Acrobat open. But the problem still persists even when Photoshop is running all on its own after a fresh reboot.
I tried uninstalling and re-installing Photoshop CC completely on both machines but it still seems to be a problem. CC didn't have this issue, just 2014.
I don't know what the issue is. Its not a MAJOR issue since quitting the Application and Restarting it fixes it but its an unneeded inconvenience.

Check your Edit - Preferences - Performance settings.
Note:  Make changes methodically, and close and reopen Photoshop after making any change, to ensure you're testing with the updated settings.
    1.  Make sure Cache Levels is set to 4 or more - I suggest 6.
    2.  In the GPU section, under [Advanced Settings...] try changing to one of the alternate Drawing Modes.
    3.  Check the web site of the manufcaturer of your video card (in your case, nvidia.com) for an updated display driver for your operating system and hardware, and download/install if one has been released.
    4.  Try resetting all Photoshop preferences to defaults by pressing and holding Control - Shift - Alt immediately upon cold-starting Photoshop.  You have to be quick to get the keys down, and if you are quick enough it will prompt to confirm deletion of your preferences, which will lead to creation of a new default set.
I don't know what you mean by "compressing cache", but it doesn't sound like anything I've ever heard that's restorative to Photoshop performance.

  • Dreamweaver CC 2014.1 slow, hangs, loses passwords... Should I revert to a different version?

I've been using Dreamweaver since version 2 in 1998. These days I use it mostly for editing PHP / HTML / CSS. I don't use the visual editing features much.
With each release, Dreamweaver gets slower and less reliable. I'm at my wits end. This morning:
When using Find: Entire Local Site feature on a relatively large site (about 10,000 pages) the find just stops about 20% through, takes up 100% of my CPU, hangs indefinitely. I have to force-quit.
When opening files that tie in with a substantial javascript framework (e.g. twitter bootstrap) opening files, even bringing the file to focus, saving files, is unbearably slow. I've already turned off Enable Related Files.
For the first time ever, Dreamweaver is now just losing my FTP passwords and I'm having to type them in again from scratch. Might have to do with force-quitting (see #1.)
I'm actively looking for a replacement code editor at this point. So far, nothing quite fits the bill. In the meantime, can anyone recommend a process for getting Dreamweaver to be faster and more reliable? I'm very much willing to downgrade, etc.

    > were you opening them in live view or design view
Neither -- I work 100% in code view. That's why I'm fairly intolerant for slowness. I use Dreamweaver as a code/text editor exclusively. I love the way it colorizes, checks syntax, does PHP lookup functions.
    > Can you please let us know how many related files like js, css etc are present among your 10000+ files?
I'll do you one better: I'm sending you a private message with a link to download the template + framework I'm using. You should be able to open up any number of files and experience the problem for yourself.
FYI: With my downgraded (2014.0) version, I still get a lot of beach balls simply when bringing focus back to a Dreamweaver document, or when I start typing something new. However saving is now instant again, which is nice.

  • Mouse lag / slow down due to bandwidth useage?

I'm using a late 2009 Macbook Pro running Lion. All software is up to date.
I have a Magic Mouse and also a Microsoft Wireless Mobile Mouse 4000.
The mouse slows down and becomes very jerky and laggy jumping all over under certain curcumstances, I have been able to replicate this each time.
If I am downloading using uTorrent.
If there is a movie being watched on my Apple TV 2 streamed from this computer.
It seems unusual that using bandwidth would effect the mouse, but this does seem to be the case.
I upgraded from 4GB RAM to 8GB RAM today in the hope that this would solve the problem, but it persists.
I don't have a wired mouse to test with. Could this somehow be a Bluetooth issue?
    Any ideas please?

This is possibly a Bluetooth issue. Since RAM has a way of redistributing resources, it's possible that your recent upgrade may address the problem.
But it could very well be a power issue. Replace the batteries with ordinary alkaline cells and note the difference. If there is a positive change, you might consider charging your rechargable batteries more completely.
    Please post your results here.
