AE CS3 from PC to MAC

Hey Guys -My First Post Here-
I was just wondering if there's a process I should go through when I work from home on my PC in AE CS3 and want to then open those files at work in AE CS3 on my MAC Pro. Is this possible to even do? And if so is there a certain way I should save my project. Thanks for the help! -rjgettis

from "Cross-platform project considerations":
"After Effects project files are compatible with Mac OS and Windows operating systems, but some factors—mostly regarding the locations and naming of footage files and support files—can affect the ease of working with the same project across platforms...."

  • Transfer CS3 from Win to Mac - no upgrade?? really??

    Hi
I've just had a chat with an adobe Rep, and I'm 95% sure that what they told me is wrong (cos it sounds too good to be true!) so thought I'd ask if anyone can verify it....
I have CS3 Design Premium for Windows. I have a Mac on the way, and want to switch.
I was under the impression I'd have to pay to updgrade to CS4, and then switch. But what I was told was that:
    - I send in the letter of destruction and they'll email when effective
    - Apart from that, I just put my install CD in the mac (it works on both) and use my current serial number.
So - no need to upgrade, no cost, no new media - just email over a copy of the letter of destruction.
I've attached a copy of the transcript if anyone's interested.
    Can anyone verify this?
    Thanks
    Kieran

    Cheers
My Mac arrived yesterday, so I put the DVD in (it's a download only version, rather than a shipped box) and there didn't seem to be a Mac installer. In sheer naiveity even tried running setup.exe (!) but no joy.
Other info I've read since does seem to imply that this rep was wrong. Does anyone else know more about the process, or, if the rep was right, how I go about installing from that DVD?
    Cheers - Mac noob...

  • Crossgrading CS3 from PC to Mac

I'm struggling to find any information on the site to help me understand what would be involved (in terms of procedure and costs) if I go ahead with a plan to crossgrade my CS3 Premiere Pro from PC to IMac. Thanks for any guidance anyone can give.

Because CS3 is no longer being sold, I believe that you will be looking at an upgrade to CS 5.5, and unless Adobe has changed their policy, one can cross-grade at the same time, and for the same price as though they had kept the same platform.
If you had CS 5.5 (the current version), the cross-grade price should be about the price for the upgrade TO CS 5.5.
I would check the current prices, as there was a recent post, and also e-mail, featuring a deal on CS 5.5 pricing. I do not recall the details, but think they were for Mac users, though might have required that they be "upgrading" from FCP. The details shouild be in the Adobe Store, on the Upgrade page (probably accessible from the Buy page).
Good luck, and hope that gives you some options.

[Edit] Yes, it does seem that the "special offer" is for a "competitive upgrade" from FCP, or AVID MC.

  • Update CS3 from 10.0 to 10.0.1 fails

    Hi
I've just bought Photoshop CS5 as an upgrade to CS3. After installation, I de-activated and uninstalled CS3 from my desktop Mac and re-installed and activated it on my MacBook. That seemed to work, however the update from 10.0 to 10.0.1 did not, the updater quit "unexpectedly". Was it "unexpectedly", or is this intended behavior ?
    Kind regards - Hening.

…Do I understand your answer the way that I could even install the just purchased CS5 on both machines??
    Absloutely, yes.  Ohne Weiteres.
The license is always for one user, two machines that will not be used simultaneously.

No need whatsoever.  That's why I was asking.

i have switched from PC to Mac how do i use my windows version  of adobe photoshop CS3 on my MAC?

    rebel1568,
All Photoshop versions through CS6 came with platform-specific licenses, either Windows or PC.  You could get a cross-grade of platform swap at a nominal cost but not for older versions, only for whatever Photoshop versions was current at the time.
CS3 is totally out of the upgrade or cross-grade loop.  You'd have to buy a new license for CS6 Mac or subscribe to Photoshop CC, as Trevor points out.
Curt Y is correct in that CS2 will not run on current Mac-Intel machines.  You would need a used Mac G5 or G4 with a PowerPC (IBM) CPU, which have been obsolete since mid 2006.
Of course, you could run your Windows  on your Mac if you installed and ran BootCamp or Parallells.

How do I transfer my photoshop cs3 from my mac powerbook to my macbook air?

Download the Trial version to the MacBook Air from
    http://prodesigntools.com/download-adobe-cs4-and-cs3-free-trials-here.html
Follow the Very Important Instructions on that page first otherwise the links won't work.
Then launch the Trial and enter your CS3 serial number and you're done.
That'll use up your second (of 2) activation. If you want to remove Photoshop CS3 from the Powerbook then open Photoshop Help > Deactivate then uninstall to free up an activation.

I installed CS3 from backup to a new iMac when my old iMac failed.  How do I activate CS3 suite?
When I try starting Photoshop, for example, it tells me uninstall then reinstall the product OR contact product support.
However, when I phone product support, it says there is no product support for CS3 and to go to the Forums.
    Thank you.

You need to uninstall and do a fresh install with your serial number

  • Anyone used both CS3 on PC and MAC ?

Very long time professional user of Premiere on PC platform.
If (and I mean "if") I change from PC to MAC and install CS3, will I be in "very familiar territory" (apart from the OS of course).
I am considering this major step because I may want to run FCP on the same machine. Anyone know if they would co-exist?

I am running both CS3 and FCS2 (FCP6) on a dual Quad MacPro and am not having any issues. To be honest, I haven't had the chance to run PPro that much yet 'cause I'm working on jobs I started in FCP, but the little non-taxing things I have done in PPro have gone well. PPro behaves just as it does on my PC's and seems 'snappy'. Haven't tried every function yet, especially exporting, etc. but seems good so far and identical to PC version in every way I've tried it so far. I think you'll be comfortable in PPro on Mac. I think you'll like OSX too!

  • Painless switch from PC to MAC

As many people do so, i will be making the switch from PC to MAC in 2009.
Since i want to do this as painless as possible, i want to be prepared as good as possible. I already found some information about licensing but i'm also much concerned about the technical issues.
    - Creative Suite CS2 / Photoshop CS3 : can i take all my actions, custom settings, brushes etc to the other side? All compatible. Concerning third-party plugins i know i will have to contact them seperately
Working a lot in Indesign and Illustrator, i expect to have many Font issues. Any advice on this?
    - Lightroom: i have 5 collections and some 100,000 photos in DNG, JPEG and PSD format on 3 different (internal and external) drives. I backup on another external drive. I'm concerned making the switch, Lightroom's database will either not be compatible or will not take along all settings (presets, keywords, sets, etc).
    - color consistency / calibration. I know the colors displayed on my current monitor are correct. Can I expect differences when displaying my photos on a mac?
Anything else I have to think about? I don't want to lose years of work neither spend weeks switching from one platform to the other. Any advice is really welcome.

    Mr. Isaacs,
Please note this definition of the word misinformation:
"False or inaccurate information, esp. that which is deliberately intended to deceive..."
I am not a lawyer, and you might not be either: but when I am repeatedly given misinformation by representatives of a corporation, I must consider the possibility of fraudulent behavior. Whether or not the persons giving out the misinformation are employees or outsourced contractors is immaterial to me; the ultimate responsibility lies with Adobe's management.
Here's another example for you of misinformation. I discovered yesterday (after quite a bit of searching) that Adobe Acrobat Pro for Mac does not include the application LiveCycle Designer. However, when I looked at the product description on the Store page, I saw no mention that this is a Windows-only feature:
    From http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobatpro/features/:
    "Create dynamic forms
Use Adobe LiveCycle Designer, a professional form design tool included with Acrobat 9 Pro, to further customize and automate dynamic XML forms."
I have several forms that I have created for clients using LiveCycle Designer. However, now that I have a Mac, I will be unable to edit those forms in Acrobat Pro, which I purchased as part of Creative Suite. From Help files http://help.adobe.com/en_US/Acrobat/8.0/Professional/help.html?content=WS58a04a822e3e50102 bd615109794195ff-7dfd.html:
In Windows, you can use LiveCycle Designer to edit forms that were created in Acrobat, but Acrobat can’t edit form fields that have been opened and saved in LiveCycle Designer.
So now I will need to purchase a full copy of Acrobat Pro for Windows ($449.00 USD) in order to continue to use the forms that I have created for my paying clients.
Just out of curiosity, I decided to ask a sales representative about whether or not LiveCycle Designer is included in the Mac version. I clicked the Chat button on the Acrobat Pro product page, and initiated a chat with "Randy." Here's the important bit of our conversation:
"Adrienne: Just to clarify, the Mac version of Acrobat Pro 9 does have LiveCycle designer included?
    Randy: Yes."
"Randy" was only too eager to take my money then and there. Of course, if I had purchased Acrobat Pro 9, and once I opened, installed, and ran the software, I would have discovered that I did not in fact have LiveCycle Designer. I could then initiate a return, which would hopefully be completed within the three-week time frame specified.
I repeatedly requested that I be given an ID for the chat, either the representative's ID or a reference number for the chat. "Randy" told me he couldn't give me any "personal information," (I did not ask for his last name, just a way to identify him) but said I could email myself a copy of the chat. I entered my email address as instructed but never received a transcript of the chat.
I can only conclude two things from this experience:
    One: Adobe's management of its Customer Service and Sales departments is incompetent;
    OR
Two: Adobe is deliberately trying to deceive me, the customer, with "bait and switch" tactics.
If it's the first case, then I am only too eager to stop buying products from a company that cannot manage its Support and Sales teams. If it's the second case, I must consider filing a complaint with the FTC.
Mr. Isaacs, if you were in my position, what do you think you would do?

  • How to execute the InDesign Javascript from outside in MAC

    Hi All,
I need to execute the InDesign Javascript from outside in MAC machine.
    Anyone can help me.
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Ramkumar

If you just want to imitate double clicking a file, use execute() method, e.g.:
    var myJavaScriptFile = new File("~/Desktop/Test.jsx");
    myJavaScriptFile.execute();
At the top of your .jsx file type #target indesign to make the script run in InDesign.
And I want to add to what Harbs said in the previous post: when you use do script command, you can also send parameters and get back values. See DoScriptParameters and DoScriptReturnValues sample scripts from InDesign CS3 Guide Scripts for details.

  • Adobe CS3 Design Standard for Mac - lost disks

    Hi!
Situation: I'm buying a new mac, and do not want to use Migration Assistant to transfer my software (mainly as I'd like to do a clean install and not migrate a load of junk that may be on my older mac).
I have lost my cs3 install disks. I'm a registered and licensed cs3 design standard user.
I've looked at the forums and contacted Adobe.
No replacement disks can be sent for legacy software, so Adobe cannot help.
Does anyone have any suggestions? I dud see one post where a forum member offered assistance, but what the assistance/solution was I'm not sure as the discussion was closed/taken offsite.
Someone had suggested downloading cs3 from a torrent site, but I'm not at all keen on doing that.
Any suggestions or advice much appreciated, and yes, I'll take better care of my install disks in the future :o))).
(In my defence, lame as it is, when I bought cs3, I did see they offered replacement disks for a fee. I didn't realise this was only for current software).
    Regards,
    Venkat
