AE CS4 hangs everytime I open a certain project

Hi,
Im using After Effects CS4 v9.0.2.42 on Windows 7 RC Build 7100 (actually stabler than Vista) and until now everything was just fine.
But now, everytime I open up a certain Project, After Effects hangs and Windows 7 gives me the Message: "AferFX.exe doesn't react anymore. Cause: AppHangB1" (freely translated from german). I only have this problem with this one project and I can't figure out why.
In it, there's just a video in the background, a solid used as a ground plane, a camera, a light and two Trapcode Particular Particle Worlds.
I could work with this project fine until I opened it from the save.
In case they're important, here are my system specs: Intel Core 2 Duo @ 3.5 GHz
Ati Radeon HD 4890
4 GB of RAM
Hopefully, somebody here can help me because i would hate to do the whole project all over again.

Well, bad news then: If AE doesn't throw an error about "project structure damaged" or "project does not contain instance X of item Y", then the structure is usually unrecoverable. Even importing the project into a new, empty one would not work then. The only other potential culprit I can imagine is damaged conform files in your media cache. Manually deleting that data might help. All that aside - always make good use of incremental saving, regardless of how trivial a project may seem...

Computer hangs everytime I open up preview.

My Macbook Pro (mid 2012) hangs everytime I open up Preview. The only way to resolve it is to use force shutdown, Even the "three finger salute" force quit window dosen't appear when I press it. Problem started to appear when i accidentally opened quite a large number of image files ( >300) on preview. Currently using OS X 10.9.2

Do a backup.
Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J. When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder. Select Caches/com.apple.Preview. Move the caches to your desktop.
Open the application and test. If it works okay, delete the caches from the desktop.
If the application is the same, return the caches to where you got it from, overwriting the newer one.

You might need to redo the View settings after an update.

CS4 hangs when I open jpgs

Howdy! I just installed Illustrator CS4, and I'm having a problem.
Whenever I open a JPG into Illustrator, it loads the image and displays it, then a few seconds later Illustrator hangs permanently.
The error occurs when I use Place or Open.
I have tried opening the jpgs into RGB ai files rather than CMYK (Illustrator shows the jpgs as having RGB format), but that doesn't help.
PNGs, SVGs and other image formats work just fine. In fact, when I go into Fireworks and export one of my jpgs to a PNG, that opens in Illustrator just fine too.
Any thoughts? Thanks in advance...

Andrew,
Preference corruptions create many strange issues.
You may try to Ctrl+Alt+Shift during startup of Illy, or use the instructions in the hint Move the folder.
The former is simpler, the latter is capable of solving more issues, and it reversible so you do not lose your preference settings in vain if it does not work.

Firefox hangs everytime i open it

Every time i open Firefox it hangs for a while and i am not able to do anything on firefox. I have made sure it up to date, un installed and re-installed and done spy ware scans.
Any help would be great.

Dreamweaver freezes everytime I open a certain file

Hi, I have this problem with a file that's very annoying. I'm working on:
- a Mac OS X 10.7.3
- processor 2.2 GHz Intel Core i7
- Dreamweaver CS6 version 12.0 (mainly, but it also happens on CS3 too)
- it's a 10 kb HTML file linked with:
- CSS stylesheet and several images
- and fontkit from squirrelfont webfont kit and google webfont.
I have tried to :
- delete the MacFileCache and the folder in my personal configuration,
- uninstall and reinstall the program,
- Disable Dreamweaver's Resolve To IP Address by modifying Adobe Dreamweaver CS Prefs file,
But it's still not working. I think it's something to do with my own file because I tried to open other files in dreamweaver and they worked just fine.
These happened not only in Dreamweaver CS6 but also the previous CS3.
The thing is I don't know how to put/display the codes in here...
Please help me, I'm on my deadline so any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Hi, sorry for the late reply. The file is actually a homepage of my website, however there is no actual website since I'm only asked to create the homepage.
I can open it with text editor programs, but they only display the output not the actual source code...

Can't open a certain project, also having problems with FCP crashing

I saved one of my projects as save as, but was unable to open it the second time. I could see the name of my project but it wasn't highlighted, thus making it unable for me to open. And I also was trying to log and transfer quite a few clips and FCP shut down on me and sayed that an unexpected problem has occured and had to shut down. I'm not sure why any of this is, but I sure would like to find out. Thanks.

Have you tried double-clicking the actual project icon to see if it will open that way?
You could also try fully deleting all the preferences like this:-

Everythime I open a certain project in GarageBand, my MacBook freezes. Help?

For instance I open up My Song 119 and it loads fine but then I press something in the GarageBand window and it gives me the spinning ball which causes my Mac to be unresponsive. But if I open another song from the finder folder, it works perfectly fine. Why is this happening?

One of your recordings may be corrupted, or one track may be using too many complicated automation setting. Does your project have many software instruments that require a lot of processing?
And are you maybe runnimg out of disk space?
To try to find a possible bad track silence all tracks but one and play each track on its own. This way you should be able to find out if one of your tracks has a corrupted audio file or uses too many effects.
Then remove the bad recording or simplify your software instrument track (or turn it into a real instrument track).

IMovie quits when I open a certain project

I have been using iMovie 6.0.3 for several years. My iMac OS is 10.4.11.
I have an iMovie project I've been working on for two weeks and have done hours worth of editing. Tonight when I try to open this project, each time iMovie starts to open, I see a progress bar of my project's name, then iMovie quits. I tried opening other projects and they are successful. How can I retrieve the work I've done in this particular project?

Hi redpen - if all else fails, Control-Click the project's icon, and choose 'Show Package Contents'. In the Cache folder you will find a QT version of your movie. Hopefully this will open in QT. Save it as a self-contained movie. You will of course have only limited editing capability with this if imported into a new iMovie project.

Motion crashing upon open of certain project files (fine otherwise)

I am a fair newbie to Motion and am working through the Apple Pro training book (Motion Graphics and Effects in Final Cut Studio 2). All included project files open fine on my Mac Pro, (leading me to think the project files are fine) but crash Motion on the iMac I'm using. Projects I create from scratch open with no problem on the iMac.
Both Mac's are using the latest OS and application updates.

Looks like a font issue. Try this:
Create a "virgin" account from the accounts preference panel. Try opening it there.
If it crashes, try again with Console (Application -> Utilities -> Console) open and see if it outputs anything useful when it crashes.

Premiere Pro CS 5.5 crashes when opening certain projects. Others work.

Hey,
when opening two certain project PP starts to load but when the progress bar is full the program crashes with an error saying Premiere Pro doesn't work anymore.
Other projects can be opened like normal. I can also create a new project and premiere works.
Is there a problem with the project file? Can they be faulty? But I didn't change them for a few months. I also tried to open backupfiles of that project but it is the same problem. What else can be wrong?
The project is very complex, might this cause any problem? Or sth. in the cache, preview files?
Hopefully someone can help me out.

That would certainly indicate that your "bad" projects are completely corrupt
When you create new projects (sorry, I don't have any other suggestion) you might also start a new work habit
At least every day, or after every "major" project step, do a SAVE AS to save a new project
Something like...
JoeVideo01
JoeVideo02
JoeVideo03
and so on... so if JoeVideo03 is somehow corrupted, you may go back to JoeVideo02 AND all of the auto-saves for that name to try and find a project that is from before the corruption happened

Everytime i open motion it kills my memory!

everytime i open a motion project it takes my memory from 3000MB free down to 5MG free....Help please.... it was working fine up until it did an update a day or so ago.

The caching process for earlier versions of Motion were 64bit, so could access all of your memory.

Media Encoder CS4 hangs when opening large XDCAM HD MXF files

I am having a problem with Media Encoder CS4 hanging consistently when importing large (18GB) XDCAM HD (25mbps, MPE-2 HD) MXF files. Smaller files are not a problem. This is on a soupped up system, HP XW8600 Workstation / Windows Vista Pro. The same files work fine in After Effect CS4.
Any idea what could cause this?

I'm having a big problem with a flash file. I installed CS4,
and trying to open a flash CS3 file crashes CS4. It´s a
complex file, but it opened quickly with no problems in CS3.

Hmmm - I havent experienced this here - CS4 opens all of my
CS3 files no
matter how large or small and across netwrks. I would try
opening your file
in CS3 again, do a save as with a new name, then launch CS4
and try opening
the newly saved file.

Adobe Bridge CS4 Hangs and whole system goes down.
This is happening when I just finished edition RAW files in ACR and hit DONE, right after that a Bridge hangs, Cannot open Explorer, PC functions are down, cannot start anything, cannot stop Bridge process, cannot properly restart. Only holding power button shuts donw PC forcefylly.
I happens once per 10 edits of RAW files and super annoying.
Pleeeeease help!

No wonder I think this is Bridge.
That is indeed a tempting thought, have you already tried the refresh preferences for Bridge using ctrl key pressed down while restarting Bridge?
But Bridge is very critical in reacting on odd system behavior, so also keep the advice of Station-Two in mind. On a Mac repairing permissions often solves problems, don't know the PC equivalent of this.
