AE CS4 Won't Start on Multi-Core System

I use an older version of After Effects (AE CS4). I recently built a new workstation that is bootable into different choices of multicore (up to 40 cores).
I can successfully start AE CS4 on the boot configs up to 16 cores. But above that, AE CS4 won't start. It won't even show the splash screen (but the AfterFX_32.exe process does appear in Task Manager).
Just wondering if there is any way to get AE CS4 to run on configs with more than 16 cores?

No. There is no way because at the time operating systems did not allow to use more cores and thus the underlying system libraries down to the C/C++ code cannot handle it.

We can't know. You have not provided any system info. From incompatibility with operating system updates to otehr tools blocking components to system restore damaging the installation anything is possible.

Aggregate Storage And Multi-Threading/Multi-Core Systems

Please pardon if this question has been asked before, but the Forum search is not returning any relevant results.
We are in the process of purchasing hardware for an 11.1.2 Essbase environment. We are going 64-bit, on Windows 2008, with either 32 GB or 64 GB of system RAM. The debate we are having is the number of CPUs and cores per CPU. We have not built any ASO databases as of yet, but we plan to launch a major BSO to ASO conversion project once 11.1.2 is off the ground here.
Historically, with BSO, we did not see performance improvements significant enough to justify the cost of additional CPUs when we ran calcs on multi-CPU systems vs. single or dual CPU systems, even when the settings and design should have taken the most advantage of BSO's multi-threading capabilities. However, it would seem that ASO's design may be able to make better use of multi-core systems.
I know that there are a lot of factors behind any system's performance, but in general, is ASO in 11.1.2 written well enough to make it worthwhile to consider, say, a four CPU, total 16 core system vs. a 2 CPU, total four core system?

Windows 7 seems to be optimized for multi-core thanks to a lot of reworking. Intel wants and knows it isn't possible to hand code, that the hardware has to be smarter, too. But the OS has a job, and right now I don't think it does it properly. Or handle memory.
Gulftown's 12MB cache will help, and over all should be 20% more efficient doing its work.
With dual processors, and it doesn't look like there are two quick path bridges, data shuffling has led to memory thrashing. Use to be page thrashing with not enough memory. Then core thrashing but having the cores, but not integrated (2008 is often touted as being greatest design so far, but it was FOUR dual-cores, 2009 was the first with a processor that really was new design and (native) 4-core.
One core should be owned by the OS so it is always available for its own work and housekeeping.
The iTunes audio bug last year showed how damaging and not to implement code and how a thread could usurp processing and add a high cpu temperature while basically doing nothing, sort of a denial of service attack on the processor - those 80*C temps people had.
All those new technology features under development and not like OpenCL, GCD and even OpenGL are tested, mature but rather 1.0 foundation for the future. A year ahead of readiness.

Illustrator CS4 won't start, even after reïnstalling.

I reïnstalled the whole Suite but Illustrator still won't start. When I try to open Illustrator the orange windows pops up and you see that parts are being loaded but then it shuts down and is gone. I'm on Windows8.

SAP won't start after recabeling sap system

Hi, 
 
I have recently recabled my sap system (from wireless to wired) and now my sap instance won't start anymore. The weird thing is that nothing major was changed. When i read the logs from the work directory it seems it cannot load dbsdbslib.dll. I have updated to the latest version of the kernel and maxdb (kernel=7.00 patch 221, maxdb=7.6.06.07) and i made very sure i got the right kernel (NT AMD64). I also checked the environment settings for the <sid>adm user. The weird part is that it seems SAP cannot connect to the database, but the databse starts just fine and r3trans -d also returns no errors. Does anyone have an idea what could be wrong?

1. Did you create the SAP ticket, where this problem is
reported?
I didn't report it to SAP because it is just an IDES test
system. I can easily do a reinstall, but i would like to know the cause and
solution to this problem.

How does LabView choose which core to use in a multi-core system

I have to share my multi-core processor with another application. When this other application runs, it consumes 100% of one of the cores on the system for several seconds. I am worried about this other application blocking part of my control code, resulting in delayed control signals and possible loss of control.
1. When one core is completely occupied, will LabVIEW put all operations into the other core? (I am guessing this is yes)
2. If an operation is occurring on a core that is subsequently 100% subscribed, will LabVIEW move the operation to another core? Does LabVIEW (or XP) prevent the other application from stalling operations already in progress?
The operations I am most concerned with are for the Multifunction DAQ and serial port calls.
I am working on a good sized (>100 vi) control system application in LabVIEW 8.2.1. It is running on Windows XP.

1. Yes, Windows will allocate LabVIEW to an open thread on the unused core.
2. Again, yes, Windows will check for available threads and move LabVIEW to any that are open, it doesn't matter what core that is.
You can also force LabVIEW code, or parts of it, to run on a specific processor using the timed loop structure. You can find help for setting that up here.

On Location CS4 won't start

When I try to start it up it just hangs on the splash screen. It doesn't even show up as running in task manager. I have the latest update installed. I have tried to delete the approps.xml file manually but it doesn't exist. Oddly their is a WSMgrCfg file, but without an .xml extension as in other application folders. Looks like a call to Adobe is in order once I get some time.

CS6 beta expired, now CS4 won't start

I had Photoshop CS4 installed on my Mac, then installed Photoshop CS6 beta and uninstalled it after its trial expired. Unfortunately, CS4 now reports "license expired" at start, and then quits. I have my CS4 serial number but I don't know where to get its installer. I'd appreciate any help.

Illustrator CS4 won't start in Win 7

The scenario:
- Brand new Win 7 machine; brand new CS4 Web Premium purchase
- All windows updates and Adobe updates performed
- All Adobe products start up fine, Illustrator doesn't; it just hangs; I don't even get the splash screens at all to tell me that it is even attempting to load something. The computer freezes; ctrl+alt+del will freeze as well. The only way to get out of it is to power off the computer with the power button
** This only happens with Illustrator, all other products/apps work fine***
Any ideas? Similar situations? Recommendations?

Extension Mgr CS4 won't start on PC

My Extension Manager CS4 was working fine until I updated Acrobat Reader and Java about a month ago. Now, if I attempt to open EM from within Dreamweaver, I get most of the EM shell, but then it hangs. No extensions are listed, and I can't click on anything. If I try to open EM from my start menu, I get nothing at all. "Adobe Extension Manager CS4.exe" appears in the Task Manager's list of Processes, but not in the list of Applications.
I tried doing a system restore to an earlier date, but it didn't fix the problem. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Java, as well as the entire Creative Suite. No luck. I also tried updating EM with the 2.1 patch. No change.
One odd thing that may be noteworthy: If I right-click on a file in Windows Explorer, Windows Explorer crashes.

I had the exact situation with Vista and this is what I did after seeing something on another thread that gave me a crazy idea:
The thread mentioned installing manually into a user directory. (Users/[name]/Library/Preferences/Adobe/Extension Manager2/Configuration/Extensions/
The problem was that I did't have the "../Configuration/Extensions/" folders, so I created them and threw an .mxp file in (while every CS4 program was closed).
I then started up the CS4 Extension Manager and instead of freezing and being blank, my extensions showed up and I was able to install again. Maybe just a fluke on my end? I would be interested to know if it works for someone else.

Encore CS4 Won't Start

I'm not too handy with computers, honestly. I have used CS4 for a couple years now. I made my last DVD 6 months ago with it, running Vista. But now when I go to open Encore, it starts to open, you can see the assets panel, and then it all just shuts down inexplicably. I am finding a lot of people that have the same problems all over the internet, and none of their fixes worked for me. I need someone to guide me through fixing it.

Welcome to the forum.
When a program crashes, or exits unexpectedly, there is often a breadcrumb trail left behind in Event Viewer. This ARTICLE will give you some tips on finding clues amongst the breadcrumbs.
I'd also check your video and audio drivers, and update from the mfgrs' Web sites, if you do not have the most current.

Dreamweaver CS4 won't start

I have the CS4 Web Premium Package installed on XP. Every appli
cation works fine except for Dreamweaver. When I try to run it, it gets to the welcome screen, then crashes. I've tried:
Removing the Configuration folder.
Removing the cache file.
Reinstalling Dreamweaver.
Disabled Firewall.
Installed new display drivers.
I have Homesite installed on this machine. I'm wondering if there are any conflicts between the two programs? Any advice would be appreciated.

After Effects CS4 Won't Start

Hi,
I installed AE CS4 together with Master Collection DVD, and tested it then, was OK.
The version was 9.0.0.346.
It stops working suddenly, and it seems to be after I've ran Adobe Media Encoder.
Tried reinstalling AE and also thrashing preferences for AE, and still didn't work.
Even after the Adobe Updater updates various CS4 including updating to AE 9.0.2.42 (AE CS4), still no luck.
Wonder what should I do now to get it working?

Mac OS X 10.6.3 Snow Leopard, iMac. Installed with CS4 Master Collection DVDs.
When i first installed about 2 weeks back, it was working as I checked by starting AE immediately after install, and no problems.
Now it stopped working after I've used Adobe Media Encoder within Flash. AE just doesn't start. That is before any updates.
Coincidently when I faced the problem yesterday, the Adobe Updater automatically prompted that new updates are available (it does it by linking to Adobe directly to my Mac), and I just went ahead with the updates hoping it will help. I didn't download the updates myself - it is done automatically by the Adobe updater.
i.e. with BOTH 9.0.0.346 (original from DVD) and 9.0.2.42 (the updated one updated by Aobe Updater) AE doesn't start.
