AE CS5 Help application damaged, won't launch

Installed CS5 last week, on a Mac Book Pro OSX10.6, also with CS3 installed (Master collection) installed. Thought I'd try to get up to speed but when I try to access the AE help files, I get a message that says: Adobe AIR: The installation of this application is damaged. Try re-installing or contacting the publisher for assistance. The same error occurs whatever help feature I try to launch.
I don't really know what AIR is, or what the error means - do I need to re-install Air to read able to access the help files, or the whole of CS5 master collection (I really don't want to do this...). I've tried running the installer for CS5 to find the help app but it's not listed as a separate application. I've updated my installation of AIR, whatever this is, but it doesn't help either.
Hope someone can shed some light, thanks - Chris
Update - I just tried deleting & reinstalling a CS5 package, OnLocation - this didn't help. I also tried downloading another Air app, this ran fine, it's only adobe air apps that appear to be affected.

I gave an overview of the ways that you can use the Help document and avoid the AIR application on this thread on the Premiere Pro forum:
http://forums.adobe.com/message/2879425#2879425
On that thread, I also urge people to give feedback on the Community Help Client forum. This AIR application that's causing you problems is something that is included with all of the applications, not just After Effects, and the people who can help you with that application are on the Community Help Client forum. Just check out that link to the Premiere Pro forum thread for more information.

  • CS5 Help application damaged, won't launch

Hi - I've recently upgraded to CS5 Master from CS3, but whenever I try to access the help files for any CS5 application, I get this message:
Adobe AIR: The installation of this application is damaged. Try re-installing or contacting the publisher for assistance.
I've tried deleting and re-installing a CS5 application, also re-installing/updating the Air application/support/environment or whatever Air is - none of this helps. Other Air apps I've tried work fine, it's just the CS5 help docs that don't work. CS3 help still functions, and I can access the help files at:
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/(application)/cs/using/
    but it's obviously not ideal.
    Using CS5 on a MacBookPro under OSX10.6
Tried again using the direct link to the help application, at this link:
    http://www.adobe.com/support/chc/
But again I get this error: The application could not be installed because the installer file is damaged. Try obtaining a new installer file from the application author.
    Cheers - Chris

  • CS5 Help Application Broken

Shortly after installing CS5 (licensed version - not demo), I decided to check out the PPro help file. After selecting HELP->ADOBE PREMIERE PRO HELP, a window popped up telling me that an update for the Adobe Help application was available. I figured what could possibly go wrong? Well the installation of the update failed:
"The application could not be installed because the AIR file is damaged. Try obtaining a new AIR file from the application author."
And now, whenever I try to view the PPro Help, I get:
"This installation of this application is damaged. Try re-installing or contacting the publisher for assistance."
So I downloaded the Adobe Help application from http://www.adobe.com/support/chc/ and the installation also fails with the same message. I also tried re-installing it from the distribution DVD's. Didn't help. I guess I can access the help files from the Content DVD, but just want to warn others in case you are tempted to run the update. I guess there could be something flakey about my system:
    Mac OSX 10.5.8
    2 x Dual-Core
    13GB RAM

    Mac OSX 10.5.8
Installed the whole CS5 Production Premium Suite, licensed version. Machine also has CS4 Production Premium. After installing, I went into PPro CS5, loaded a CS4 project, scrubbed the time line a few times, rendered it, did a capture via FireWire from my HDV camcorder, tried out "Scene Detect", swore about on screen-preview still not available on the Mac (why?????), and then went into the Help function to lookup HDV capture. The first time I got the message about the help file update, I ignored it. The second time, I tried to run it and got the error.
    Hope this helps.

  • AIR update and CS5 Help Application

Okay, question mostly answered, see below
Using the CS5 Adobe Community Help application, to post this question, for example, seems slow. Since Help uses AIR, I am wondering if updating to AIR 2.0 would speed that up (CS5 installed AIR 1.0 on the system). However, I would think that the Creative Suite would have automatically updated to AIR 2 if it were compatible. This doesn't seem to have happened, even more than two weeks after installing CS5 (AIR is supposed to autoupdate every two weeks). The questions I have are:
    1. Is the Help app. I received compatible with AIR 2? According to documentation, Help 3.3 is supposed to use AIR 2, but as above, AIR 2 did not deploy. Could there be different versions of Help 3.3 for AIR 1 and AIR 2?
    2. Can I manually update to AIR 2 simply by downloading the application from the Adobe website, or are there compatibility issues with AIR 1-based and AIR-2 based applications, or with the software updating?
    3. Is there a way to force AIR 1 to update itself to AIR 2, or does the automatic update not consider that an update but an upgrade? AIR 2 supposedly has an update manager helper app. available, but not AIR 1, as far as I can tell.
It seems like my copy of CS5 sat on the shelf for awhile.
Thank you for any insights that can be given here.
Okay, the version of AIR is found in a plist file, and does not correspond to the "Version" folder in the Framework folder for the application. According to that, my version is all up-to-date.
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/407/kb407625.html
The software version can also be viewed using System Profiler in Utilities. AIR will be listed under the Frameworks.
Incidentally, the Adobe Application Manager updating application lists the AIR version as 1.5.3 in its inventory, and not the version according to the Framework folder. Maybe someone could chime in on why that would be. Did the older version of AIR use AAM for updating, while the newer version has a separate utility?

  • Adobe Application Manager won't launch

Running Mac OSX Lion on Macbook Pro with Adobe Creative Cloud. When  I try to launch Acrobat Pro, Application Manager tries to launch, but no options come up. Happens every time I try to launch Acrobat, so Acrobat won't work. Suggestions? I noticed there is no uninstall for Application Manager. Can I just trash it and try to reinstall?

    Hi Dave,
Has Acrobat X ever worked? I wouid try running the uninstaller for Acrobat from  Applications > Utilities > Adobe Installers if avaiable, rebooting, and then launching the Adobe Application Manager first from within Applications and then reinstalling Acrobat.

  • Please help lightroom 5 won't launch with my mac 10.6.8 what

ANY  Suggestions  It won't launch it say's I need 10.7 however, my other programs are working fine with 10.6.8

Thank you.  It would have been lovely if they let us know (Important Notice that the New LR5 is compatible only with  MAC LION 10.7 and newer  Mac versions of operating systems and older, not previous Mac operating systems versions) on the main page before purchasing LR5. I've never had a LR product that didn't work with the old operating system, and I've owned all of them.  I think I just trusted Adobe would continue on with the same process .  So basically, we'd have to upgrade our operating system and risk the change of now having a situation with all of our current programs that work perfectly with LR5.
Is it possible that Adobe could make sure that they inform trusting customers like us,  similar to when trying to market their new products campaigns, they tell us how fabulous the upcoming product are in a variety of ways.... luring us in...   You know most of us are Artists.
Just make sure you make it known other than looking at the tech spec page... say like on the page where the shopping cart option is?   Epson's printer wouldn't calibrate with the Adobe PS4 a few years ago.  It took us months to figure out that, it had nothing to do with our calibration process. Finally....after speaking to Epson, they walked us through varies steps etc... hundreds of dollars later, we were able to get a good print, it turns out the Adobe 4 software was not compatible at that time with the new Epson software.   So here we go again...
Be good to us Adobe...this was a bit out of your norm.  Thanks

  • CS5.5 Mac - "Install" won't launch

    Hi -
I'm brand new to this forum. If this question has already been answered, I apologize, but thank you in advance for any help you can offer.
Earlier today, I paid for a download of CS5.5 Design Premium for Mac, specifically from littlesoftshop.com. I launched the downloaded .dmg file, then clicked on the "Adobe CS5_5 Design Premium" icon. Next, I see 4 options: a "deploy" folder, an "Install" icon, a "packages" folder, and a "payloads" folder. Logically, I clicked "Install". When I do so, it acts as though it wants to open (icon quickly zooms towards me), but nothing launches. Each ensuing click does nothing.
I've restarted my computer, I've cleared the cache...just about everything short of reinstalling the OS (currently on 10.6.8, btw). Is there another method of getting the "Install" to run? I have a serial product number provided for me at purchase, but I can't even get anything running to finish the install. Your help would be greatly appreciate!
    Thanks in advance,
    Bryan

Clicking on the .dmg file simply opened a window with an Adobe banner on top, then two options to click: a red "box" icon labeled "Adobe CS5_5 Design Premium" and a .pdf "Read Me" file. When I double click the red box, it shows me the 4 options I listed above, including "Install". I can't get it to run.
I currently have CS3 installed on my machine. While attempting to solve the above issue, restarting, clearing cache, then running the program "AppleJack" (that apparently helped others in the past), I've discovered (and quite frustratingly so) that NO Adobe program will open for me now. Everything else on my desktop is opening and functioning as normal, but all of the sudden, my computer hates Adobe. Wondering if perhaps solving whatever issue is in the way of my opening Adobe programs will also solve the problem of running the "Install" application for CS5.5?
At this point, I can't even get to a welcome screen to get started! Grrrrrr...
    THANK YOU for your time!

  • Please please HELP! iChat won't launch!

I think my husband deleted the program or messed it up somehow, but he doesn't know how. Instead of the icon in the >Applications menu, there is the paper with the pencil & ruler. He somehow deleted Garage Band, as well! I have tried reinstalling via the OSX Leopard install CD and restarting and it STILL does not work. I am fairly new to Mac, so I need specific instructions.
    Thank you SO MUCH!!

  • Zen Application Window won't launch

Has anyone run across this problem?:
We have Win98SE machines running Zen Agent 4 that
just can't seem to handle the upgrade to Zen Agent 6.5.
What happens is that after the upgrade
The Application Window never even appears.
The installation of the ZenAgent upgrade over ver.4 goes fine
    but when the machine reboots
The Application Window doesn't show up.
Nor can you cause it to run by calling it from
    the Start | Programs menu.
There are the rare Win98SE machines that the Zen7
App Window runs fine on, but this is the exception.
Could there be something in Windows preventing
    the Application Window from Launching?
    Thanks for the help,
    -Rick

There is a mapping to the root of SYS: which gives some access into
    SYS:\Public.
    I'll check on the other.
    Thanks,
    -Rick

  • JSAM - Java Secure Application Manager won't Launch

JSAM doesn't wish to launch in Lion, even though it did in 10.6.  The dialog complains the Java for Cocoa Plug-in is not available. I've been looking around for it but can't find it. Any tips? Anyone else see this?

On Snow Leopard you don’t need to downgrade.
Get a copy of Safari 5.0.5 for Snow Leopard from another machine or possibly by Googling it (…I couldn’t find it on the Apple Downloads site, but theoretically it should also be contained in the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo).
Mount the DMG image on your Desktop and use Pacifist to browse the PKG contents: find and extract (say, on your Desktop) Safari.app (edit: you can’t just install the PKG in the normal way even if you trash Safari 5.1 first, at least on 10.6.8).
Via the Terminal rename Safari to, say, "Safari 5.0.5", e.g. (assuming you did extract Safari onto your Desktop):
    $ cd ~/Desktop
    $ sudo mv Safari.app/ Safari\ 5.0.5.app
[enter your admin password to rename the folder].
Now drop your Safari 5.0.5 into your Applications folder. You should now be able to use it alongside Safari 5.1: use Safari 5.0.5 for JSAM and Safari 5.1 (which is better) for everything else.
    Hope this helps.

  • Help: PSE5 Organizer won't launch

Hi, I had been using PSE5 organizer for some time without any problem until recently. Suddenly the organizer would not launch even without showing any error message. I tried all kind of suggestions below yet still couldn't get it to launch:
    1) uninstall and reinstall PSE5
    2) Press CTRL during launching PSE5 organizer
    3) Delete Catalog folders and preference settings
Attached is the log file during Organizer's launch. Can someone help me with this?

Are you still getting the launch issue ?

  • Help! Iphoto won't launch.

I had installed iLife 08 on a new mbp, when the screen stopped working so I thought I would try reinstalling the operating system. I backed up all my apps using apples .mac backup to a hard drive, reinstalled, and then tried to restore the apps. My problem is that none of the 08 versions of ilife are opening now, includiong iphoto. I don't have my install cds with me, otherwise I would use those. Does anybody know what to do so that these apps will launch? They appear for a second in the dock and then vanish...

    Silly question:
Have you tried launching them from their home in the Applications folder?
    /Applications/iPhoto
If so, it also could be your launchservices being messed up. Can you launch Console in /Applications/Utilities? There may be something logged there that could be of use.
