AE CS5 is not using Multiple Cores

I have a six core Intel I7 980X machine which i've got running at over 4GHz, yet AE is completely not making use of this speed.
I've turned on "Render Multiple Frames Simultaneously", and set it to use all cores (it detects 12 because of hyper threading on the I7 CPU's) and this does nothing for both the Preview window/working area or when actually rendering a video in the Render Queue. It uses about 9% at most of my CPU, that's not even 2 full cores.
I also have two SSD drives in RAID 0, they're Crucial C300 SSD's, pretty much the fastest you can get, infinitely faster than any Hard Drive, yet again... not making use of these it seems. I also have 12GB DDR3 running at 2GHz, i've set AE to use 9GB of it, as much as it will allow.... yet i cant even work with HD 1080p material and get near to smooth performance or even play it smoothly with or without effects applied, atleast with the video/viewer window near to 1080p size. Really pathetic. Premiere Pro on the other hard does a much better job but still dont fully make use of the speed and cores available. Adobe Media Encoder also does not use all cores.
Other software and even games make way better use of these cores than Adobe software seems to.
I've got two ATI 5870 graphics cards in Crossfire mode, they have the latest drivers. Performance is like this on any driver version though, but as far as i know none of this software makes use of the GPU's like it does with certain CUDA based Nvidia cards. I'd still like it to actually make use of my other hardware though.
I'm most bothered about AE, so any ideas why AE CS5 is [edited] so badly?
This is on Win7 x64.
Thanks for your help!

I've atleast made the renderer work a little faster by ticking "Enable OpenGL" in the Render Settings, and increasing the amount of used graphics card RAM to 800MB.
I also tried doing what those Blog posts said in the FAQ links - It has not helped much, if at all. So i tried a few different other RAM settings too, which didn't really help.
Then i put the video files on my SSD drives, and that helped a little. But not much difference still overall, very unimpressed with AE CS5 performance. It's took me hours to put together a 1min 30secs video that has 6 video files in total with some lens blur and colour grading effects applied, that's just silly, even for often slow Adobe software.
Cant see this happening but i'd like it if Adobe almost completely focus on performance for CS6 and hardly add any new features. While also making use of the speed of Solid State Drives and having GPU's also made use of more. I mean my SSD's are capable of reading around 600MB/sec and doing 40,000 I/O's per second but none of this is being made use of.

  • Logic not using multiple cores?

I have a project that seems to be burning out my CPU. The music starts distorting and crackling, and I've noticed that the little CPU indicator is hitting the top of the chart. But, I also have the iStat monitor installed, and the CPU never reads as going above 50%.
I have a dual core intel, is it possible that Logic is using only one core?

    I have the same problem.
On a i7 iMac with 16 gigs of ram. Logic is only using one core no matter what settings I use (auto, 8 or 4), and even using the bus rerouting trick the plugins still run on the same core. That core create glitch when it reaches 100%, but really only 25% of my iMac is used.
Way to get us spending money, pay 3000$ for a computer that is 4 times faster than the previous one, but then your limited to 25% of what you paid for.

  • Does iMovie09 use multiple cores??

Does iMovies 09 take advantage of multiples cores such as the core i5 or the core i7? this is really the deal breaker for me in buying the new 27 inch iMac.

Not as far as I know.
One thing to realize is that it is very complicated for an application programmer to write code that takes advantage of multiple cores. Apple has addressed this in Snow Leopard by providing a system framework called Grand Central Dispatch that makes it simpler for application developers to use multiple cores. It still will take one or more development cycles before developers really start taking advantage of this.

  • Spatial Query, Use Multiple Cores

Basic question, is SQL 2012 running on Windows 2008 R2 64 bit expected to use multiple cores to execute it's tasks?
I have a table of points, 480, that has 3 empty columns that are being updated from 3 separate tables of polygons via a spatial join based on an intersection (STIntersects) of the point and polygons. All of the data is in 4326 and all tables have spatial
    indexes.
The server running this query has 32 logical cores, but only 1 core is used and it is maxed out. It takes 53 seconds to complete the update. I have over a million points that need this done. I want to assume that if SQL can access more cores it will complete
    faster.
I've looked at the actual execution plan and there is a 99% cost on the spatial query.
    update A
    set CONGRESS_DISTRICT = B.DISTRICT, HOUSE_DISTRICT = C.DISTRICT, SENATE_DISTRICT = D.DISTRICT
    from [LegislativeMapData2014].[dbo].[CNRM_INFORCE_EXTRACT093014_COMBINED_GEOCODED] A
    inner join [LegislativeMapData2014].[dbo].[CONGRESS_2014] B
    on A.FEATURE_SHAPE.STIntersects(B.FEATURE_SHAPE) = 1
    inner join [LegislativeMapData2014].[dbo].[HOUSE_2014] C
    on A.FEATURE_SHAPE.STIntersects(C.FEATURE_SHAPE) = 1
    inner join [LegislativeMapData2014].[dbo].[SENATE_2014] D
    on A.FEATURE_SHAPE.STIntersects(D.FEATURE_SHAPE) = 1
Is there anything I can do to improve the performance of the query? Do I need to hint the indexes? Or something else?
    Thanks

    Hi,
updating millions of records could lock your resource and other users may have trouble connecting or reading data.
In some cases, variable table is your friend, insert the data you needed to a variable table before issuing the update.
with that, you may need to have (nolock) on each table. eg.
    [LegislativeMapData2014].[dbo].[CONGRESS_2014] (nolock)

  • "you can not use multiple instance of Program at the same time"

    Hello @ all,
I have a Problem, after the installing from Acrobat Testversion and acrobat reader in version in "all Combination" 8 an 9.
I get this misstake information "you can not use multiple instance of Program at the same time" if I want open more then 1 .pdf.
If I have no pdf open, but acrobat/reader so i can´t open with the same Misstake.
I have deinstalled and installed, Allways I bekame the same information. I tryed all things to clean and know i don`t know forward.
Important: by Drag an Drop in the Acrobat Reader it is going, but by direct click on the pdf i get mistake.
Maybe, you know what I can do!
    Thanks for help!

Installation of both Acrobat and Reader in the same Windows machine is not advisable. If I were you, I would remove both completely and then reinstall the one you want to keep.

  • Dynamic Linked AE comp not using all cores in Premiere CS5 to render

I have a project that is taking forever to render and am trying to troubleshoot it. It has an AE comp that is used several times and seems to be the culprit. If i load that into after effects and render with my "use 7 of 8 cores with 1GB ram each" setting in afx then my cpu usage is about 80-90% and it renders that segment in 50 seconds.
Now when i link that into premiere and it is rendering along almost maxxing out all 8 cores until it hits that comp and then cpu usage drops down and only one core is at 80% and the rest are around below 20% and that segment takes almost 10 minutes for premiere to get through.
Now obviously i can pre-render that and replace the comp and the problem will be solved but i would much rather see premiere render at full speed like it should. Am i missing something? With multicore systems this would make dynamic linking almost worthless if it wont use them (and i LOVE dynamic linking, it is a GREAT feature)
system is win7, cs5, dual quad xeon (8 cores), GTX 460, and 20GB ram.
    thanks!

    > Am i missing something?
    No, you're not missing anything.
This is a current limitation of using Dynamic Link between Premiere Pro and After Effects. When Premiere Pro calls the headless version of After Effects to render those frames, only one After Effects process is used.
We're working on improving Dynamic Link. If you'd like to influence where we put our effort, please make a feature request so that the folks deciding what work to do can register your vote.

  • Premiere Pro is not using all core power for rendering of timeline

I have got PremierePro CS5.5 and i7 920 and nvidia GTX 295. When i edit my footage (cineform) everything is fine becouse i am using CUDA boost but when i am trying to render timeline i saw on my CPU & GPU Monitor that rendering is using maybe about 10% of power of all cores (8 cores). How to do to use all cores power when i am rendering my timeline?

When i am using cuda i work much faster with fullhd timeline than i am working with cpu. I thought that cuda is accelerating only editing of timeline becouse line is always yellow and when i am using rendering line is green and system is using cpu power. So i thought that cuda is acceleration only for editing without rendering acceleration. When i would use cuda for rendering acceleration system should work faster than with cpu rendering and it`s not true.
What is fastest way to turning off CUDA (to turn it on for a while).
    Thanks a lot...

  • IDVD encoding -- not using eight cores

Went from an iMac to a Mac Pro this weekend to heavily decrease the encoding times of movies (been making a lot lately). My current iMac (2.8ghz, 4gb ram) takes roughly two hours to encode (professional quality) an iDVD. I figured that with an eight core Mac Pro, this would be around 40 minutes (4x the number of available processors).
After cranking the encode, only four of the cores were lit up, not all eight. Has anyone else noticed this?

Compressor, which is bundled with Final Cut Studio, can be tweaked to use all 8-cores. I don't think Compressor comes with FCE. Adobe After Effects will make use of 8-cores. Some functions in Aperture (and I THINK Motion) will use 8-cores. There may be more applications, but again, not many. It is difficult to write and debug multiple core applications:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Multi-core_(computing)
    http://www.barefeats.com/octopro1.html
But can't stress how effective your workflow is improved by having a "better" computer. OK, it takes an hour to compress a video... I can still be working during that hour instead of waiting.

  • Do not use multiple devices for BT email

I have been advised by the Yahoo email support team that my account is being locked every few hours because I use multiple devices and the server sees multiple requests to 'sync' email from one account onto several devices as malicious activity.  I use outlook on three PCs (a desktop and a couple of laptops) and the default email client on a stock Android.
The advice I've been asked to follow is to ensure I close outlook (on which I view several email accounts) every time I walk away from my desk and then enable email sync on my phone.  On return to my desk I should reverse the process. I'll do this in the short term as it will take a few days to switch from BT email to another provider but this is not sustainable.
I find it hard to believe that the btinternet system isn't robust enough to accept single user/multiple device scenarios.  The problem has only manifested this week so I suspect it will be due to a change in system protocol/software as I have had a few years of trouble free multiple device access until this point.
I'm interested in other peoples' experience of this as it's the only email service I use which has exhibited this issue in recent years.
    Solved!

There are several reasons why you get password rejected messages however based on the information you have supplied I have the following observations and advice.
    1.  The failure message incorrect in that your username and password is likely to be correct but is being rejected for another reason.
    2.  The most likely cause is some form of timeout.
    3.  Providing you have a reasonably fast connection the timeout is likely to be because your account is being accessed by two or more of your devices at the same time.
    4. To stop this happening you need to do the following.
    a)  Do not use webmail unless you have to.
    b)  If you do use webmail make sure that you sign out when finished.
    c)  Make sure that all your devices do not check for emails automatically but require manual intervention.
Not sure this is strictly necessary, unlikely devices will be polling simultaneously.
    d)  Use POP instead of IMAP in email clients.
    e)  Make sure smartphones and  tablets have Email accounts Push "off "and Fetch data "manually".
Not sure this is strictly necessary, unlikely devices will be polling simultaneously. Agree with Push 'off'

  • Using Multiple Cores

    Hi,
I'm new to Qmaster, and I'm trying to use it to utilize multiple cores when exporting video from Compressor. I following instructions to get the option of a cluster other than "This Computer" in Compressor:
    First, go to System Preferences.
    Choose Apple Qmaster
    Stop Sharing if it's on.
Set to Quick Cluster with Services
    Select "Distributed processing for Compressor"
Click on Options for Selected Service. You can choose from 1 to 8 instances, depending on the number of cores you have.
Give your Quick Cluster a name like "op's Local Cluster."
Once you have the options set, click Start Sharing, and close the prefere
I did all this, and it didn't work. Then I found someone telling me to deselect "Managed" and select "Shared" in services, and my new cluster finally showed up in Compressor. However, when I submit batches to that cluster, nothing happens. Time elapses, but to the best of my knowledge, no video is being produced. Am I doing something wrong, or just reading what's going on incorrectly?

    Bryan G. wrote:
Jon Chappell, why are you saying that Qmaster has to launch multiple instances of whatever app is doing the compressing? If you have multiple Macs networked together, you don't even need to have FCPro installed to use Qmaster services.
    http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/Qmaster3Compressor_3_Distributed_ProcessingSetup.pdf
    See p.77.
To export a Final Cut Pro sequence directly to Compressor for distributed processing:
1 *Make sure Final Cut Pro is installed on each computer in the cluster that you intend to use for distributed processing.*
Each installation of Final Cut Pro requires a product serial number. For information about volume licenses, go to http://www.apple.com/finalcutstudio.
But as I said, that's only if you export directly from FCP. If you export to a QuickTime movie first and then import that to Compressor, that will work fine without FCP being installed. You will, of course, need the necessary codecs installed on the cluster machines though.

  • Does IMovie '11 Use Multiple Cores?

I'm trying to decide between a high end 4 core (4G i7) iMac and a (3.5G Xeon) 6 core 2013 Mac Pro. Currently I have a 2009 Mac Pro. I do light video editing, and was wondering whether iMovie '11 would take advantage of the extra 2 cores, as opposed to the faster speed of the iMac 4 cores...
    Thoughts?

I'm not sure that iMovie '11 will use all the cores.  iMovie '13 (version 10) will BUT....  If you are going to splash 3000-4000 $ on a high-end mac why not layout a paltry additional $300 on Final Cut Pro 10.1.x which is FAR more powerful and less frustrating to use than iMovie and will definitely make best use of  your processing power.

  • Data merge CS5, will not create multiple records.

I have my base elements on the master page and two text boxes on page 1 on of a single page document. I am creating raffle tickets so there is box on the left side of the page and the right side of the page. I need this step 3 times down the sheet.
I've tried using a comma delimited and tab delimited file. These files have two columns with numbers 1-500 and each with a different heading. Ticket 1 and Ticket 2.
When I turn on multiple records nothing step and repeats. It looks exactly the same as a single record. I make raffle tickets like these quite often but the template I've used for the last few years is 1 up, built to the size of the ticket, and everything works great. I end up with 500 pages, send through our impositioning software then print.
In this case, my client wants to print the files themselves and have them stepped up 4 per sheet.
Does anyone know what I might be doing wrong?
    Thanks!

When I read the third line of Kimberli's email, I thought of this article from my blog which might help if the artwork was set up as it was in previous years (i.e. 1up)
    http://colecandoo.wordpress.com/2011/10/28/theres-more-than-one-way-to-cut-and-stack/
It takes the 1-up PDF and allows it to be placed into InDesign as it it were prepared in an n-up imposition.
It isn't a fix to the multiple record issue that the OP has, but rather a workaround.

  • Download Full CS5.5 not using Cloud

Where can I download CS5.5 without going through Cloud. I don't want to ugrade to cloud. I have a CS5.5 registration key which was purchased in 2012 and have just upgraded my computer but no longer have the downloaded CS5.5 files.

if you follow all 7 steps you can directly download a trial here:  http://prodesigntools.com/adobe-cs5-5-direct-download-links.html
and activate with your serial number.
if you have a problem starting the download, you didn't follow all 7 steps, or your browser does not accept cookies.
the most common problem is caused by failing to meticulously follow steps 1,2 and/or 3 (which adds a cookie to your system enabling you to download the correct version from adobe.com).
failure to obtain that cookie results in an error page being displayed after clicking a link on prodesigntools.com or initiates the download of an incorrect (eg, current) version.

  • LR 4.2 - not using virtual cores?

    I've just updated from 4.1 to 4.2 -
First thing I noticed while exporting from NEF to jpg is this:
Before my CPU would be rockin' along between 600-700% (2.2GHz i7 MacBook pro) - nearly all cores - 4 primary and 4 virtual (8 total) - would be being used.
Now with 4.2 my CPU load is between 300-400%, with all 4 primary cores being used, but the 4 virtual cores just kinda hang out without being used.
Something is different by example of the load it stresses on the CPU cores.
    But...
That said, it all seems zippy enough and is totally usable.  I honestly couldn't tell you if it's exporting any faster or slower...
    Any ideas what's going on?
    Ben

Lightroom 4.2 should have no problems recognising and importing Canon 5DMk3 files. Actually, I imported around 200 such files late last night. So, there is something else going on with your installation. Have you tried deleting the Lr preference file ? More info where it's located can be found at http://forums.adobe.com/thread/358041?tstart=0
