AE CS6 and tearing of XD CAM EX Mp4 source footage

Hi I'm getting tearing artifacts in CS6 when using XD CAM EX MP4 source footage. This does NOT occur on a colleague's CS5.5 install with the same files. I found a discussion from last year at http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1009064 , where the issue was apparently resolved with a CS6 update. I, however, did not install After Effects until March/April of this year and I am experiencing the same problems as the unfortunate users of Premiere and After Effects in the beforementioned discussion. Screenshots in that discussion are exactly like the issues I am seeing, I've posted a couple of frames below. FYI, I'm on windows 7 pro and using the calibrated{Q} XD decode and MP4-EX import QuickTime Pro extensions, graphics card is a  GTX 680 with stable drivers, and 16Gb RAM on the mobo - I just checked Creative Cloud and AE CS6 is up to date. Does anyone have any helpful tips about what I could do here, or insights into what the 2012 problem was and why?
addition: my present workaround is to stay at frame zero, apply effects and layers, clear disk cache and purge all memory... then set to render (without ever scrubbing or RAM Previewing)... this sometimes works. Of course, I need to define the endpoint of the clip as well... prior to the render run I make the duration decisions I need to (which is why the media cache file deletion is required), save and quit out, then come back in for the render session... less than ideal. The workstation has a  fast Tb drive, it's only a few months old... I am almost certain this is a CS6 decoder interpretation issue not a source footage or hardware issue.
... also, once I scrub through the timeline and notice an artifact it stays on that frame consistently for that session (and it also means there will be other torn frames on the clip), and purging memory can make it go away - but further scrubbing in the same session will introduce an artifact again either in the same place in-frame or somewhere else. The source footage is presently interpreted as upper field dominant, if I change that to bottom field it moves the artifact somewhere else on the frame... once again, purging all memory and clearing the media cache makes it disappear back to it's *original* state.  I'm also noticing that the artifact ISN'T a frame or field next to the *bad* frame, but a fair distance away on the timeline, and not consistently so (eg: not 25 frames away, some seemingly spurious amount).

If you are having problems decoding footage the first step would be to transcode the footage to something like a JPEG compressed Quicktime. Just use the AME or AE or Premere Pro to do so. If you don't know what I'm talking about then type rendering in the AE Search Help field at the top right corner of AE and read some of the materials you'll find.
I'm trying to avoid having to transcode, Rick In fact, I'm more interested in why you're suggesting I should transcode for CS6 when it's not necessary for CS5.5 (which I don't have access to unfortunately, it was a colleague's 5.5 version that we tested on with the same XD CAM EX footage, and it's being used on another project). I dearly hope that isn't the only solution, although thanks for the suggestion

Canon 1DX support was added to ACR in version 6.7, 7.1.  An updated CS6 should be at level ACR 8.6.  If your ACR is not at level 8.6 try using CS6 menu Help>Updates.  If that does not install ACR 8.6 try downloading the ACR and DNG 8.6 converter and see if ACR 8.6 will install into your CS6.

When I download camera raw 8.5 and install the raw converter doesnt work anymore, wont even open or isnt available anymore in the plugin list. Tried to reinstall everything for a few times, but nothing helps.

When I search for updates the raw converter doesnt get update automaticly. Frustrating, is costing me the whole morning.

  • Pls help. My Camera Raw, CS6 and Lightroom won't read the NEF files from D610.

I recently upgraded to Nikon D610 and the NEF files were not readable from my old version of Camera Raw, CS6 and Lightroom. So downloaded the recommended upgrades and I now have Camera Raw 8.4.0.199; Lightroom 5.3; CS6 13.01. But still did not read my D610 NEF's. Please help. Thanks.

oh wait, i got it. Just in case for those who will have the same scenario. I downloaded the NEF files from my D610 using the old ViewNX 2.1 software and that was the cause of incompatibility. So i upgraded my ViewNX to 2.9 and downloaded my images again. And it worked this time.

  • I'm going back to cs4 after using cs6 and I can't open nef files in camera raw.

Each camera needs a specific camera raw version (ACR).  And each ACR is tied to a specific version of PS.  See this list http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html

  • Camera Raw CC and CS6 and Lightroom 5 Support for Canon SX60 Canon 7D Mark II

I have just bought my wife Canon SX60 and loaded pictures into Bridge and saw that Camera Raw does not recognize Canon SX60 CR2s. I checked the supported cameras and saw SX60 is not in the list. I will be purchasing a Canon 7D Mark II on Tuesday and see that it is also not supported. I saw in a forum post that the 7D is not in the current Camera 8.7 but will be part of the Camera Raw 8.7 "production release". I currently have Photoshop CC, Photoshop CS6 and Lightroom 5 will both cameras be supported in the next "production version" of Camera Raw and Lightroom 5 and when is it scheduled for release (I saw some thoughts that it would be by the end of year but was hopefully we can get a more definitive date).
    Thanks

It has been indicated that both of those cameras will be supported in the final release of Camera Raw 8.7. But there is no announced release date. There never is. I assume it will be before December 31. But that is only my guess based on the fact that the release candidate expires then.

  • I have CS6 and Bridge... I bought new camera Canon 70d and the Photoshop and Bridge could not read my files....

So I downloaded new version of Camera Raw and now everythibg crasheh - camera raw dissapeared and i can not do anything... Please help!

    I'm no expert but,
I think you need "extended" version of CS6 to get 3D  (3D included in CC)
and a suitable graphics card to display it
CC 3D is easier to use too.

  • Update of Camera Raw 7.2 for Photoshop CS6 and Lightroom 4.2 - now Bad color

Did the auto update of Camera Raw 7.2 to Photoshop CS6 and Lightroom 4.2 now the color is green and flat in all images after I save them. I do use a Nikon Camera profile and lens correction. Everything was working fine until the 7.2 update. Now the only way to save correctly is to Save for Web. Where do I match the color/profiles?
    Mig

Color Settings are :     RGB     sRGB IEC61966-2.1
                                       CMYK     U.S.Web Cooated (SWOP) v2
Color Management:     All say preserve embedded profile
I had marked the Profile mismatch boxes to see if I got an error message, but I never did, so I cleared them again.
    Conversion Options:     Engine     Adobe
                                                Intent     Relative Colorimetric
Advanced Control     Only one checked iis Blend Text Colors using Gamma at 1.45
As far as what settings do I open images with.  File > Open and find the file. During the edit process everything looks perfect - only after I save is the file trashed.
Under Preferences: File Handling > File Compatibilty > checked are Prefer Adobe Camera Raw for Supportred files
Everything has been fine for months with PS CS6 & Lightroom 4.2 & Colorchecker software profiles, until the Raw Camera update. And I can still save perfect images as long as I save they with the File > Save for Web.

Have you used Nikon Transfer on those files? Early versions are known to corrupt files so that ACR can't read them. Nikon has since fixed the bug so new versions are safe.

  • Why not let me have Acrobat Pro XI and DC much like I have CS6 and CC?

I've loved CC so far because it let me have both CS6 and the new CC apps. That meant there was no slowdown in production while I learn how to use the new app. When crunch time came, I could just turn to my trusty old app that I know like the back of my hand. I'm a huge fan of the CC subscription model and the constant rollouts, but this is the first time I felt like the rollout was forced upon me.

    Thanks Dov,
That makes sense for why Acrobat is the exception to the parallel installation rule. Thanks for the explanation. I didn't mean to imply that Adobe made me install DC, just that there doesn't seem to be a way to roll back the installation - at least not within the Creative Cloud App. Is there a trick to do that?
Also, I haven't tried this, but could I have both Acrobat Pro XI and Reader DC on the same machine? I was thinking of using that as a work around to have both the old familiar acrobat, but also start using the doc share/fill and sign stuff that I like in the new DC. Does that cause too many problems to be practical?

  • Uninstalling Illustrator CS6 and Prelude CS6 Mac Betas

I was on beta team of CS6 and before release this past week was experiencing an issue with Adobe Application Manager. A very unhelpful and uninformed Adobe Tech rep demanded that I uninstall all beta apps manually. I knew this was wrong but followed his advice. Now installing from the Creative Cloud and am getting error messages in Illustrator CS6 and Prelude CS6 installations that there are conflicting files. I cannot locate these conflicting files using Spotlight. All other apps installed without a problem. Since I removed all of these beta files, including uninstallers, manually (following the bad advice of about the worst tech rep I have ever experienced), I have no uninstallers to find these files. I recall that after the cs5 beta cycle, there were several clean-up scripts available to remove any residue of beta software. Does such a script exist or is there a different way to find and remove those conflicting files?
This is the Illustrator error message:

I apologize for the experience you had with our support representative.  They were partly correct though with asking you to remove the beta version prior to installing the released version but you would have wanted to use the uninstallers.  At the moment I would recommend running the cleaner tool.  You can find more details on this at CS Cleaner Tool for installation problems | CCM, CS6, CS5.5, CS5, CS4, CS3 - http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/cs5-cleaner-tool-installation-problems.html.

  • I am running a laptop with windows 7 on it and trying to use the save as feature in Photoshop CS6 and won't let me save as anything. Please help?

I am running a laptop with windows 7 and am trying to use the save as feature in Photoshop CS6 and it wont let me save as anything. Can someone please help me with this?

A screenshot of your Photoshop work area showing the open file you want to save as, the Layers panel open, and the Save as... dialog open might give us a clue as to what is going on.
To take a screenshot and save it as a file
For Windows 7, Printscreen, open a New File in Photoshop, Ctrl v to paste, then save as jpeg (the other trick was for windows 8)
Use the Camera icon on your reply to upload it.
Also File > Save for Web is a good workaround if you just need a jpeg, png, or gif.

  • Disappointed in CS6 and Adobe in general

I am more and more disappointed in CS6 and Adobe in general.  I no longer have any respect for Adobe or their products.
I can't read the new title editing function in Premiere CS6 (it was fine in CS5). Somebody here said you can make it bigger: No you can't. You can make the box bigger like a picture frame around the edit, but the text is still unchanged and unreadable. Soundbooth was usable as a wave editor, Audition is not. Installed on an AMD machine, Premiere Pro CS6 imports Nikon video as audio and after more than a month of playing with it Adobe's India supper support still doesn't have a clue.
Dreamweaver CS5 Ste files won't fully import into CS3 or CS5 (it can't read the FTP user/pass), my install of Encore CS6 is missing all the menu templates and buttons so I go back to CS5, and I was totally disappointed that CS6 won't edit in 3D. The After Effects work around for 3D is a joke.
The Master Collection download install file is just a little too large to fit a backup on any DVD. How inconvenient! The first one kept asking for "Disk 2 - English/Japan". It would be nice if they got it right before releasing it to the public.
Finally frustrated with the idiocy of Adobe, I bought Grass Valley Edius 6.5. When I called GV for a minor issue I got an office in the USA on the second ring and a quick, correct answer. Everybody there speaks clear English. The Edius product simply works (it's been a broadcast news editoring standard for years) and I can also edit 3D.  I can actually see titles when I'm editing them. It imports any file I want correctly, including the Nikon files that Premiere CS6 can't. It has all the functions that Premiere does, including good stabilization, and a few that Premiere does not.
And Grass Valley Edius is a product from Japan!
Wake up Adobe, your ship is sinking fast into the Indian Sea and I'm sailing in the other direction.

I had another adventure today. Learning from this forum that the menus and buttons missing from Encore CS6 were in a "missing items" update, I downloaded and installed the update only to find there were still no backgrounds, no buttons and only a few "menus". So I contacted Adobe Chat Support. I was put in contact with Rahul.
I filled in form indicating that the missing files update did not contain very many missing files.
Rahul asked what the error message was.
I said there was no error, that Encore CS6 after installing the update still contained no backgrounds or buttons.
Rahul asked for the serial number. I provided it.
Then Rahul asked what the error message was.
    Rahul is not paying attention.
3 cents per hour would be overpayed for Rahul.
Rahul is not unlike all the others I've encounter with Adobe's outsourced support. They don't pay attention. They simply don't understand plain English. They are robots.
Adobe is not saving anything by hiring people who act like robots and accomplish nothing. They are only alienating customers. (Double meaning on the word "alienating")
Two other "Rahuls" wasted hours doing the same things over and over by remote into my computer trying to figure out the AVI files that came up as audio only, and they solved nothing.
