AE CS6:  Could not convert Unicode characters (23 :: 46)

I am sudenlty getting this error message.
I was importing a native XDCAM file into AE Win 7 when the error message first appeared.  Subsequent to that, merely clicking on the import button (no file selected) gives the same error message.
It seemed to "clear" by dragging an AVI file across from Bridge.  Using the same technique, I was then able to drag across the orignal XDCAM file. However, the error message reoccurs when I try to save the project.  It will not allow it.
I then opened a completed, tried and tested project - and it now gives the error message when I try to "saved as".  However, it will perform an "increment and save" without dirplaying the message.
I looked up the Adobe help - about replacing files from language folders etc, but that hasn't done the trick.  It suggested (CS3, CS4) that whatever the language txt file is in the AMT Language folder, is the one that AE was installed with.  However, EVERY lanuage txt file resides in there!  Perhaps it has changed for CS6.  I made the assumption that I would have used en_GB.txt.  Based on that assumption, I carried out the recommended procedure.  No change!
My motherboard was replaced yesterday - and I had to ask Adobe for another activation - as I didn't realise that MB replacement constituted an additional computer! Hence I didn't think to deactivate the Suite beforehand.  Could this cause the issue?
All suggestions greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

That really sounds like you have a problem with your SATA controller. If it came with a specific driver, install it. Otherwise really do verify the BIOS settings before it's eating all your data due to failed I/O operations. Also use a tool like Sysinternals System Monitor or even Win 7's own Resource Monitor to keep an eye on file operations. Something is afoot there. And really do run that fcheck/ checkdisk. As a last thing, look into your system restore settings. It's quite possible that Windows is restoring some weird stuff that may interfere with your new configuration. The same of course would be true if there is some security tool doing odd things...

  • After Effects error: could not convert Unicode characters. (23::46) CS6

Hello I just created a project in AE CC and wanted to save also a version for CS6.
All went ok but when I tried to open the project in CS6 I received the following error:
"After Effects error: could not convert Unicode characters. (23::46)"
Does anyone know what that means and how to fix it?

After Effects CC is much, much better at handling characters that are outside of the character set used by the OS at its current language settings. So, file names and paths (and other strings) that work fine in After Effects CC and later may fail with earlier versions.
For example, if you are running your OS and applications in English and have Chinese characters in your file names, After Effects CS6 and earlier will fail, but After Effects CC and earlier will succeed.

  • After Effects error: could not convert Unicode characters. (23 :: 46)

    Hello,
I'm getting the following error message:
After Effects error: could not convert Unicode characters. (23 :: 46)
I have yet to find an answer that works to resolve this problem. I'm using CS6 on an HP Z220 on Windows 7.
    Thanks in advance.

So I solved the problem. A little history for this situation: I created a new AE project and while attempting to import a file received the error message:  After Effects error: could not convert Unicode characters. (23 :: 46)
I then tried to import a Vanishing Point which broken the spell on the error message and allowed the menu to select a vanishing point to appear. I closed out of that and was then able to import files.

  • AE error: Could not convert Unicode Characters

    Hey guys,
I purchased the Video Copliot Action essentials 2 (720p). Whenever I try to import or drag and drop the pre-keyed clips (quicktime .mov format) into AE, I get the After Effects error: could not convert Unicode Characters (23 ::46) . I found an article online that said to make changes to the text in whatever Im importing, but umm it's a video, not text.
    I am using AE cs5.
I can import the clips just fine into Premier Pro and export them oddly enough in Quicktime format just fine, however I lose the transperency "pre-keyed" , that's somehow embedded into the original video, therefore I now have a video of smoke, but with a non removable black background.
    Please help! thanks!

Hey man i made an account just to reply to this, i had the same error come up while i was importing video files so i had a look around and found that it had something to do with the language/coding not being recognised, so i looked closer into the footage and tried different method of importing the file and later realised that after effects didnt recognise some of the characters in the file path way, the original folder was created using a macbook, windows recognises the language but after effects didnt, so i moved the file to my desktop and tried to import it again and presto it worked fine, you may not have the same problem but i thought just incase you do, you should try moving the file,
if not heres a thread for the error:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/after-effects/kb/error-could-convert-unicode-characters.html
hope that could be of some help.

    Andy,

There is some character in the file name or the path name for the file that After Effects doesn't recognize. What is the full path and file name of this project?

  • Illustrator CS6 is not displaying unicode characters properly.

I need to access certain unicode characters (namely the x/8 fractions). I have the appropriate font installed, and the characters display in every other program on the machine, but they are not displaying correctly in Illustrator. If I type the characters in using alt codes, the 3/8 character displays as "\", the 1/8 character displays as "[", etc. Is there some setting I need to change to enable support for Unicode characters?
    *UPDATE*
If I type the character in another program, copy it, and paste it into Illustrator, it shows up as a box with an X through it. If I highlight the box and change the font to one that supports the character, then the character does display correctly. This is, however, quite inconvenient. Is there a way to type the character directly into Illustrator?

ORA-19202: Error occurred in XML processing
LPX-00200: could not convert from encoding UTF-8 to UCS2
I used the tip from another developer to use the convert function :
    XMLForest(convert(train.programma, 'UTF8', 'WE8ISO8859P1') AS "programma"
Now at least I don't get the error but in the resulting all special characters (and there are a lot of them!) are garbled

  • LR4 Problem: The file could not be edited because Adobe Photoshop CS6 could not be launched.

Is there a fix for this?  When I try to edit an image in Photoshop from Lightroom 4 (CTRL+E), Photoshop CS6 launches immediately but with no image.  In Lightroom 4, after about two minutes, the message box appears saying "The file could not be edited because Adobe Photoshop CS6 could not be launched."  When I click OK, the image promptly opens in Photoshop CS6 like normal.  This wan an itermittent issue for me after the LR4.1 release.  I was hoping that LR4.2 would help, but now I get the error every time.
    System
    Lightroom 4.2 x64
    Photoshop CS6 v13.0.1 x64
    Bridge 5.0.1.23 x64
    Windows 7 Pro x64
AMD Six Core / 3.9 Ghz
    16 GB Memory
    NVidia Quadro 1 Gb Video
    Scratch space on three drives

This may be a cooincidence, I starting having problems after I started using a Nikon D800, which has 36MP files.  LR4 released at the same time as the D800.  LR4 shows signs of struggling with the larger files, which are typically 280MB TIFFs for the D800, like freezing for several seconds when using an adjustment brush or going into a spasm with the crop tool.  Because Photoshop does not have similar large file issues, I'm doing more basic work in Photoshop, like cropping, dodge and burn, exposure adjustment, etc.
Because Photoshop otherwise runs fine, and appears to read all the prefernes properly mid-issue, to get a better idea of what's going on, I turned on Process Monitor from Technet. For what it's worth, LR4 appears to touch the Photoshop preferences before it launches Photoshop.  LR4 must have a memory leak in that corrupts the Photoshop preferences file in a way that makes no difference to Photoshop.
My weekend project is to try Capture One to see if I can spend more time on photography and less troubleshooting Adobe problems.  As it stands, LR4 is not usable for me.

  • MailAPI SMTP sending error: 'Could not convert socket to TLS'

I'm stucked with smtp authentication in a project.
The process works on port 25 with no STARTTLS, but unfortunately our company server uses port 587 and STARTTLS.
It seems that only the half of the authentication process could be successful, as the server accepts EHLO, but when it switches to secure the program fails with the exception:

    Hi gerry,
does this happen for a particular image only, or for all images?
And does this happen only from your account or also from other user accounts?

  • ApEx BIP report using webservice: could not convert null to bean field

Seems like a pretty straightforward problem but I don't manage to find a solution.
I have a BI Suite implementation on one server.
And a database with ApEx on another server.
I want to call a BIP report from within my ApEx application using the webservices (runReport) available in BIP 11g.
I used soapUI to test my webservice. Result : OK
When called from within ApEx, ApEx gives me a succes message but the report isn't generated. Instead the console on the BIP server shows the following error:
    <Sep 12, 2012 10:28:37 PM BST> <Error> <org.apache.axis.encoding.ser.BeanPropert
yTarget> <BEA-000000> <Could not convert null to bean field 'sizeOfDataChunkDown
    load', type int>
'sizeOfDataChunkDownload' is a field of the webservice that is left empty.
That indeed is the only difference between my soapUI test and the ApEx situation.
In soapUI I removed all empty fields. In ApEx this does not seem possible...
    Some extra information:
    - the webservice is created on this WSDL : /xmlpserver/services/v2/ReportService?wsdl
    - it's defined as a SOAP v2
    - no basic authentication
    - the reports are defined in the BIP environment; not in ApEx

  • Merge to panorama from Lightroom to PS CS6 "could not be started"

I'm sure someone else has had this issue - but I've been searching for two days without finding it! I use LR 5.6 (5.7 as of 1 hour ago). I have PS CS5.1. I've routinely merged to panorama from Lightroom with no issues using CS5. I can upgrade to CS6 for $200 and I was led to believe the camera raw was contemporary (rather than giving me the "export anyway" dialog), the merge algorithm was better and the content-aware fill had been improved. As this really the only thing I us PS for (mostly), I thought I'd try the trial version and see if I could evaluate side-by-side.
When I "merge to panorama" now in LR, CS6 opens, makes me click the obligatory trail dialog, then just sits there... Eventually, LR comes up with the error that CS6 could not be launched (even though it does launch). I tried opening the DNG files in bridge and I could merge them... Did not notice an improvement in the content-aware fill - but I'd like to merge the same series on my laptop (with CS5) and desktop (with CS6) and give it a fair comparison. What could I be doing wrong??? Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry. Are you saying that resetting Preferences did not work, or that you don't want to try it?
Are you asking the same question in the Lightroom forum?
This link refers to Bridge, but it covers CC scripting problems.  I was going to ask if using CC 2013 helped, although I suspect that wherever you initiate the script from will default to the most recent version of Photoshop.  So you are probably going to need to uninstall and reinstall.
