AE CS6, ray tracing with K2100M on a precision M4800

Hello,
I work with after effects CS6, using a mobile workstation precision M4800 with QuadHD Display and a quadro card K2100M
The K200M GPU is supported for the acceleration of the ray-traced renderer, in K2100M I'm not sure.
in settings I get the following message:
GPU unavailable, incompatible devices or display driver.
I have installed the latest WHQL driver.
or do I need a special Cuda driver from nvidia like this one:
CUDA Downloads
The QHD display + of this precision is great and the i7-4930MX is strong enough, but ray tracing with GPU should be better.
Can someone help me?
I'm disappointed because I thought ray tracing with GPU works with a K2100M quadro card.
The K2100M is much faster than the K2000M and should work.
Best regards from Germany, Götz

Thank you very much!
"then you must install the CUDA driver. Simple as that."..........
I have the cuda driver already downloaded for windows 8.1
I have just reread this again, but I was not sure.
It's really easy when you get so a quick response from someone like you.
Tomorrow I will install the driver, but now I have to look at football,
Germany-Brazil
have a nice day

  • Ray-tracing with AMD card

Just updated to this latest version and AE gave me an error message on launch. I'm copying this message to the After Effects blog page as well, in order to maximize the knowledge of this issue.
Upon launch I get a warning dialog of
"Ray-tracing on the GPU requires an NVIDIA approved graphics card and CUDA 5.0 or later. For now, ray-tracing will use the CPU.
    For more information see: http://www.adobe.com/go/aeraytracedgpu"
I never had this problem before the last update.
    I'm running OSX 10.8.5, MacBook Pro 15-inch late 2011 (version 8,2), AMD Radeon HD 6750M 512 MB
So any MacBook Pro, actually ANY computer, with a Radeon card will now encounter this error message.
I'm VERY disappointed Adobe would cut off such a large portion of its users in this way.

Thank you Szalam, you have been infinitely more helpful than anyone at Adobe. I tried contacting Adobe thru the chat with an agent, chatted with 2 different agents that could not help me, then was promised a callback that I never received.
Adobe is quickly becoming the worst at customer service I have ever experienced.
I'm still perplexed why I never got this error message before, it seems according to the links you provided, its the way AE always worked. Strange.
Thank you for the suggestions for looking into plugins that can use my Radeon 6750M.

  • Is gonna work the new Intel Iris Graphics with After Effects in GPU mode (ray traced) in a future?

I want to know if it will be posible... I don't want to think that lots of users (with intel iris MacBook's) are out of this option.

    No.
The ray-traced 3D renderer is built on top of the Nvidia OptiX library, which requires CUDA.

  • Effects Don't work with Ray-Traced 3D?

    Hello,
I'm working on a 3D logo for a company, and I'm trying to snaz what I have done with some effects, but the effects don't work. For example, I tried adding the CC Light Wipe Effect, but it will only show up when I switch back to the classic 3D renderer. Google searches aren't exaclty effective when I my serach quiere has "Effects" and After Effects" in it, so I'm forced to come here looking for the answer.
Are effects supported in this new renderer? If so, how do I get them to work?
    Thanks

Pre-composing and then switching off Ray-traced rendering in the main comp gives you the ability to apply effects to the pre-comp. This may or may not work for your situation.
Another option is to pre-render your Ray-traced work and then apply effects to the footage. There's almost always something you can do if you think about it for a while.
Still another option is to put a 2D adjustment layer above your 3D Ray-traced layer and apply the effect there.

  • Problem with noise/artefacts in AE6 Ray Traced mode.

I'm having a problem with some kind or weird artefacts appearing on parts of an imported Illustrator layer. Here's the import procedure I'm using:
In AE6 I switch to Ray Traced 3D mode, then I make a new comp, add a camera, import my Illustrator file, drag it into the comp. Then I right-click on the Illustrator file in the comp and and select "create shapes from vector layer" then make the layer 3D. I can extrude etc. but for the sake of this post, I didn't do that. I get the artefact regardless.
Here's a cropped portion of my Illustrator file showing the problem:
    http://img99.imageshack.us/img99/74/linesc.jpg
Here's another screen-cap showing the problem from a different angle:
    http://img717.imageshack.us/img717/4757/lines2.jpg
The sample image is in full res and set to AE's "final quality" mode.
I've tried different setting for the render quality (the same image is set to 10), but it seem the higher the quality I set it to, the more obvious the artefacts become!
I've added no lighting or anything else to the scene, jut the camera and the AI file. I've also inspected the Illustrator file inside Illustrator and I cannot see anything at all that can be causing this problem. Is it perhaps an export setting problem in AI?
These lines only appear when I use the "create shapes from vector layer" option.

Thank you very much for your reply.
Could you please explain to me how to import the paths in the manner you describe? I'm not overly familiar with Illustrator, other than loading and saving artwork.
If it's any help, here is the Illustrator file as supplied to me: homepage.ntlworld.com/mike1962/cnet.ai
    Thanks,
    Mike.

  • When support After Effects Ray-traced 3D the GPU of the new iMac with retina display (GPU: AMD Radeon R9 M295X 4GB)?

I would like to know whether After Effects CC Ray-traced 3D support the GPU of the new iMac with retina display.

It never will. This is nVidia-exclusive technology and the whole things is deprecated, anyway. You better learn to use Cineware, buy a 3D program like Pro Animator or Element 3D or learn a proper 3D program.

  • AE Noob here with nada clue what that Ray Tracing Warning means

Does this mean I have to upgrade my Graphics card inorder to use the software?

Ray Traced rendering is a feature that is not undergoing any further development. Adobe is moving in another, hopefully more productive direction. If you have an NVIDIA card that is compatible with the System Requirements you can get GPU accelerated rendering. If you do not have a compatible card then your Ray-traced compositions will be rendered by the CPU and this is very slow.
Check for a compatible card and then download the appropriate Cuda drivers. If you do not have a compatible card, do not install Cuda, and don't worry much about it.

  • ? With Ray-traced 3D are animated mattes not possible....

    Hallo,
With Ray-traced 3D are animated mattes not possible ( say this help function ).
But  - library.creativecow.net/mize_rob/AE_Flame-Effects/1 by Rob Mize - theese animated
    mattes work.
And what means a separately area to render in classic 3d renderer?
Simply, can you do the same as in classic only with some better possibilities?
    thx a lot,

  • Ray-tracing on GPU disabled on MacBook Pro with double graphic card

    Hi to all,
i've just installed the demo version of after effects on my new macbook pro 15".
It has these 2 graphic cards:
    Intel Iris Pro Graphics
    NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M
    2GB memory GDDR5
But when i open After effects CC i get this error:
Ray-tracing on GPU requires a dgraphic card NVIDIA approved and CUDA 5.0 or above. At the moment ray-tracing will use just the CPU.
I've seen on NVIDIA that mine is a CUDA GPU: https://developer.nvidia.com/cuda-gpus.
Why am i getting this error?
    Thanks

    > Maybe updating your graphics driver could help. Your current version is 310.xxx while the latest version is 331.xxx but if your card is not on adobe's supported list, i guess AE won't let you use it.
    No.
This is not about the graphics driver. It is, as I said, about the CUDA driver.
Also, you are incorrect about After Effects not letting you use a card that is not on our whitelist; that is why there is the option "Enable untested and unsupported GPU..." (which is "Abilita GPU nontestata e non supportata..." in the original poster's Italian version).

  • AE CS6 Open GL with multiple video cards

I saw a similiar post to this from January, but wondering if anything has changed with CS6:
I have two graphics cards in my Mac Pro, a Quadro 4000 and ATI Radeon HD 2600 (connected to 2 monitors). When I look at the  "Preview" preferences in AE, I see the Quadro listed for the CUDA device, but the ATI card is listed as the Open GL device.
Is there any way to get the Quadro to be the Open GL device as well as the CUDA device? In the previous thread for CS5, it didn't sound like it would make much of a difference either way, is that the same for CS6?
Here is the Preview pane info:
    Fast Draft:          Available
    Texture Memory:          200.00 MB
    Ray-tracing:          GPU
    OpenGL
    Vendor:          ATI Technologies Inc.
Device:          ATI Radeon HD 2600 OpenGL Engine
    Version:          2.1 ATI-7.18.18
    Total Memory:          256.00 MB
    Shader Model:          -
    CUDA
    Driver Version:          4.2
    Devices:          1 (Quadro 4000)
Current Usable Memory:          1.95 GB (at application launch)
    Maximum Usable Memory:          2.00 GB

You probably won't like this, but just forget about Open GL in AE.  It never worked properly.  In fact, it worked so poorly that Adobe just gave up on it as a bad job and eliminated Open GL rendering in AE 11.
That's why you don't see it:  it isn't there any more, and I say good riddance.

  • Making a Ray-Traced image expand

Running CS6 on Mac OS.  I was wondering if you could do something like a stroke reveal effect like you would for a fake handwriting effect work on an extruded image.  Like if I had an extruded Q, could I make it "grow" in a circle if I'm usuing Ray-Traced (which I know is rather limited).  I'm open to any suggestions.  I'm not getting my hopes up on this one but I'm hoping someone might have a creative idea at least how to cheat and get some kind of similar effect.

The raytracer responds to animation in extruded shape layers, which can include any Merge Paths operations like subtracting stuff from shapes with otehr shapes and animate the cutting object to create a reveal...

  • Gt645m not supported for ray tracing?

Hello guys recently i bought a laptop with 645m GPU its MSI c61 was having 2nd thought of buying the other laptop which has 650m because of $250 difference and when searched for the both GPU specs its almos the same so i just bought gt645m instead and use the $250 on SSD but my gawd now i am in deep trouble.. because gt 645m is not supported by after effects and in this site it says this video card is OEM..
    http://www.studio1productions.com/Articles/AfterEffects.htm
when i go to preferences on AE cs6 the GPU is greyed and wont let me choose it so its CPU in default. sadly i cant return it now cause i already bought the ssd and have no budget at all
Is there anyway that i can use this card? for AE and Ppro? geezuz cries..

    ok i did that..
and so i got this error
    After Effects error: Ray-traced 3d: Initial shader compile failed. (5070 :: 0)
and when i removed my card from the list the error is gone . and GPU is not supported again .. of course

  • Pre-comp 3D Ray-Traced text quality

I've made some text in AE.  It looks smooth and great until I pre-comp.  Then it gets some aliasing around the edges and is nowhere near as smooth.
Text looks aliased in the pre-comps.  If I click the 3D icon on my master comp, it becomes smooth in master comp.  Unfortunately, I can't leave 3D checked on because I want to apply effects to the 3D text - hence, the pre-comps.  Changing the ray-trace quality and anti-alias filter type does not appear to change anything for me.
    Any suggestions?
    AE CS6
    Win 7 64
    2GB GTX 560 Ti
    16GB RAM
    i7-2600k
    Thanks,
    JB

I'm not exactly sure what your comp looks like but here are some guidelines. If you want to use Ray Traced rendering then you cannot apply certain effects, blend modes and other things to the 3D layer. If you pre-compose and collapse transformations you should be able to then apply effects to the pre-comp and still see the 3D and move around the object with the camera. If you turn on the 3D switch for the pre-comp the effects will then go away and the edges will show aliasing.
The Collapse Transformations switch looks like a * and is just right of the shy icon.
If that doesn't solve your problem then we need to see a screenshot and maybe a flow chart of your project.

  • AE CS6: Render glitches with timeremap expressions

    Version:
    11.0
    OS:
    Mac 10.7.4
    Source Footage:
    .ai files
    Problem:
First of all, we've been using this method for character animation since AE 7.0.  We have had minor glitches here and there, but nothing consistent enough to a real problem.  We're currently using CS5.5, and considering the CS6 upgrade.
I am filing an official bug report for this, but am curious if anyone else is experiencing this.  I don't want to share my project here as it's for a TV show in production.
Starting with CS6, we're experiencing random, arbitary render glitches all over the place.  Our character comps are generally two comps deep.  Meaning in the character comp, we have timeremapped comps for sequences of eyes, eyebrows, mouths, etc.  Inside those comps, there is a lot more going on than just an image sequence.  We have mesh warp keyframes and other stuff.
All of this is controlled by various expressions that link everything to some simple master controls.  I'm sure this sounds familiar -- it's very similar to the method used in these tutorials, but not even as complex.
As for the glitches, they are hard to pin down.  There are different glitches depending on whether the character is continually reasterized in the scene or not, which comp we're in, etc.  Really random.  The problem is resolved by proxying those precomps (the eyes, mouths, etc) with prerendered sequences.  This is an OK workaround for most cases, but we can't depend on it.
Thanks for any help.  In the meantime we'll be sticking with 5.5.
    Bryan

Has anyone had any success talking to Adobe about this?
I would really like to know if they can fix this in CS6, and not wait to fix it in the CC version.  I am not sure I can convince my studio to make the plunge onto the cloud, and so we may be stuck with CS6.
I found what sounds like a similar bug described in the previous patch (11.0.2):
Fixed difference in rendered result between ray-traced 3D renderer and Classic 3D renderer when using time-remapping on precomposition layer with collapsed transformations.
If they were willing to fix this, maybe they could fix this other time-remapping inconsistency bug.

  • Ray-tracing on the GPU requires CUDA version 4.0 warning

    Hello,
I've been using AE CS6 on Mac OS 10.7.4 upon release and updated to 11.0.1 when it was released as well, so for a while, but just today I started to get this warning-
"Ray-tracing on the GPU requires CUDA version 4.0 or later.  Ray-tracing will use the CPU until you install the latest supported CUDA driver."
I am running a supported Quadro 4000 with the latest CUDA driver, 4.2.7, and about the only thing I know of that I have installed recently was the update for SpeedGrade today.  Any idea why I'm now getting the warning?

Hi Kevin, thanks for responding.  Here's a rundown of the system info, some of it may be redundant-
    Computer Hardware-
         MacPro4,1
         Dual Quad Core
         2.93 Ghz
         12 GB ram
Quadro 4000- CUDA driver version 4.2.7
         Blackmagic Intensity Pro
         OSX 10.7.4
    The error, which reads-
"Ray-tracing on the GPU requires CUDA version 4.0 or later.  Ray-tracing will use the CPU until you install the latest supported CUDA driver

happens on startup.  I went to http://www.adobe.com/go/aeraytracedgpu and didn't find anything that was relevant to this issue.  Today was the first day it happened, so AE has started up error free before, and the only change I can think of was the update for SpeedGrade.  Aside from CS6 applications, which are all updated according to the Adobe Application Manager, other software I run is- FCPX, Compressor, Lightwave and rarely FCP 7.  I have some Red Giant trial plug ins, and FXFactory installed, but no 3rd party codecs.  In the AE projects I use XDCAM EX footage, with Ai, tiff and jpeg files, almost exclusively.  I assume it uses OpenGL features, I haven't done anything in particular that I know of about that, and Render Multiple Frames is deactivated.
I am only using one video card, which has been installed the whole time.
    Thanks for any help
    Dave
