AE with Zyxel DSL (660RU) modem problems

Hello!
I've recently bought an AE and got a Zyxel 660RU modem and have tried to set up a wireless network. I have managed to connect to the internet using the airport but the connection isn't good and seems to stall after a few minutes use. It is not a problem with distance as the signal is full. I was hoping to use the airport express to share the internet connection between my desktop G5 and a PC portable.
I am wondering if the data transfer stalls because the Zyxel DSL is a modem and not a router. I am no expert in Internet connection so i am not sure.
If it is that, would it be possible to connect a router in between the modem and the airport express? Would that improve things? Or would i have to get a DSL router?
Please help as i've looked on all the forum and can't seem to get a clear answer!
G5 1.8 Ghz   Mac OS X (10.4.3)   Zyxel 660 RU, Airport Express

The information on Zyxel's web site indicates that the P-660 is a gateway.....a combination modem and router in one box.
In order to use the AirPort Extreme with the Zyxel gateway, the AirPort Extreme will need to be connected with an Ethernet cable from one of the LAN ports on the Zyxel to the WAN port on the AirPort Extreme and the Extreme will need to be configured in Bridge Mode to operate correctly.
The AirPort Extreme will be able to provide a wireless network when it is in Bridge Mode, but the Guest Network feature cannot be enabled in this type of setup.

  • Config Time Capsule with ZyXEL DSL modem/router

    Hello everyone,
I have been beating my head about this for the last week or so and it had drove me to drink (Really short drive by the way). I have CenturyLink DSL Service with a modem that they provided (ZyXEL PK5000Z), this is a modem/Wi-Fi router. What I am trying to do is have my Time Calsule be the Wi-Fi router so my AirPort Express can extend the network and do what it does to get my devices connected. When ever I have my Time Capsule connected to the modem, it will drop the internet connection within 10 min to 30 min, but when I have the modem wired to my Mac it stays connected for days. I have tried many different configs and putting the Time Capsule in "Bridged" mode with the ethernet cable in both the internet port and LAN port... same problem. If anyone could please help me get this setup, that would be amazing... plus this would save me from having to call the CenturyLink Tech Support line.
    Thanks,
    James

Strange things happen.. the TC should be fine bridged to the Zyxel.. as long as you turn off wireless in the Zyxel and only use wireless in the TC.. you must create the wireless network.. not join a network.. people try to do both at the same time and end up in a mess.
Then you can check the extend wireless network in the TC and airport should be able to extend it.
But I would also add the following.
Fix radio channels.. if you have difficulties the less auto the better.
Use SMB names ie short, no spaces, pure alphanumeric for everything but particularly wireless.
And use a different name for 5ghz.
    Use only WPA2 Personal security.
If you lay off the grog for a bit it helps keep the mind clear.. to think through the things.. although I do understand the frustration.
Let me suggest you post all the setup screen shots and that can help us loads to figure out if you are making a mistake.

  • IMac compatibility with a Zyxel DSL modem

I installed a new Zyxel DSL modem connected to a Time Capsule with an ethernet cable with the TC creating my wireless network.  My iMac connects perfectly with the TC's wireless network, but the moment I switch on the Zyxel model to provide internet access, my iMac gets a beach ball that never stops spinning.  Are there compatibility issues between the Zyxel DSL modems and an iMac, or do I have settings on my iMac or Zyxel modem that causes some sort of conflict that causes my iMac to hang?  I've never had a problem before with my iMac hanging, it's been as solid as the rock of Gibraltar!

I've used the brand in the past
routers don't rely on drivers so routers follow the std of ethernet
I would expect it to be 100% transparent for a computer what router was
    using from
    a mac
    to a
computer running windows 3.11 from the 90's
    to a windows 8.1 computer
    to a linux computer
the ethernet tcp/ip packets sendt are the same no matter what device send them

  • Verizon DSL-2750B modem bridged with a ASUS RT-N66U Router

I'm trying to get my Verizon DSL-2750B modem bridged with a ASUS RT-N66U Router.  I have DSL/PPPoE service.   IS this what I want the Verizon modem set at?  Do I need to do anything else set on the Verizon 2750 Modem?
Also what port do I use on the ASUS router?  Does the ethernet cable plug into the WAN port or one of the 4 LAN ports?  I will post a picture of my ASUS router setup page in a few minutes.

Since I do not have that router I do not know for sure what else you have to do, but I can tell you this..
#1 Connect the WAN port of your ASUS to the Modem.
#2 And with most modem combos:
    a) Must disable wireless (if not a wireless modem combo, N/A).
    b) Must disable the DHCP Server in it.

  • A30 Modem Problem - Does it work with XP SP2 ?

HAS ANYONE GOT AN A30 (P4 3Ghz) INTERNAL MODEM WORKING WITH XP-SP2 ?
I've recently upgraded the hard disk in my A30 and installed XP SP2 and all the latest Windows updates and found most of the latest working drivers, but the last thing I'm trying to get to work is the modem driver.
Device mangler says the Toshiba Software Modem is installed - i.e. no driver / hardware conflicts etc - but if I try to query the modem from device mangler it cannot communicate and complains of a hardware conflict.
Similarly if I try to use any comms programs to get to the modem they complain 'unable to open COM3 - insufficient resources'
I've tried un-install & re-install different drivers from UK & Canada tosh support sites. The UK ones don't work at all, the Canada ones give the above symptoms.
The UK drivers worked with XP SP1, so my guess is there is a driver issue with XP SP2 - any one else tried it ?

Hi NA-A30-1, have you been able to find a driver yet to work with A30 and XP SP2 or resolve your modem problem otherwise?
I have a very similar problem. After a reinstall on a new hard disk and SP2, I still can't get the modem drivers recognised...
When I run the Modem Driver Installation program it runs for about 5 minutes and then closes as if everything could be ok. When I go to Device Manager, there is still a yellow question mark next to Modems (says "PCI Modem" with a yello question mark sign)...
I tried to search for the inf file, everywhere I could think of but until now, nothing seems to be recognised as the correct driver for this modem...
It would be extremely helpful if someone who has made progress can explain how they got around this problem.
    Thank you.

  • Possible internal modem problem with older iBook (Mac OS X 10.3.8)

I have an older iBook - from year 2000 or 2001. So its airport card is so old it's stopped reliably working & I don't know where I could find a replacement. In the meantime I want to get internet connection on it so I've tried plugging a phone cord from the wall outlet (that I always use succesfully for my desktop PC) into the laptop and typing in the phone #, account name and password of my desktop's internet account under "internal modem." BUT I keep getting a busy signal over & over when I dial up. I called my ISP & they thought it's a problem with my laptop's modem. I called Apple & they thought it's an issue with the ISP. Help?

    Hi,
So its airport card is so old it's stopped reliably working & I don't know where I could find a replacement.
If you have been using an internal wireless network, the router (base station) should (normally) allow you to connect via an Ethernet cable from the corresponding port in the iBook as well.
BUT I keep getting a busy signal over & over when I dial up
Without knowing any details, this seems to indicate that the modem does work. Wrong number/own number? Have you checked that everything has been entered correctly according to the instructions from the ISP?
Could KB article # 106748 possibly be of any help here?

Hi Roy, this has worked for a few...
Make a New Location, Using network locations in Mac OS X ...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2712
    10.7 & 10.8…
System Preferences>Network, top of window>Locations>Edit Locations, little plus icon, give it a name.
    10.5.x/10.6.x/10.7.x instructions...
System Preferences>Network, click on the little gear at the bottom next to the + & - icons, (unlock lock first if locked), choose Set Service Order.
The interface that connects to the Internet should be dragged to the top of the list.
Instead of joining your Network from the list, click the WiFi icon at the top, and click join other network. Fill in everything as needed.

  • Outgoing Mail Problem with Verizon DSL

I live in Hampton Roads, VA area and have Verizon's DSL with wireless gateway equipment on Dell Computer. My iMAC connects wirelessly to the gateway and connects to Internet fine and receives email fine on the Verizon POP account. I have verified settings and read most of the topics on the post and am very frustrated. There does not seem to be a definative answer on whether outgoing mail should work with Verizon DSL. Any new insights on this topic or something to look at? Dell is set to use Port 25 and sends fine so I know this is the port to use.

What does “is not working” mean? What’s the problem exactly?
If you cannot send with the outgoing (SMTP) server provided by your ISP, the problem could be that you’re telling Mail to authenticate, but the outgoing server doesn’t actually require authentication because it can determine who you are by other means.

  • Can anyone here with a Westell DSL 7500 modem tell me its polarity?

I have a Westell DSL 7500 modem but I lost the power adapter.  I have found a spare power adapter laying around with the same voltage but the polarity of the modem is not shown.  I was wondering if maybe if the polarity was printed on the adapter and some could tell me what it is( positive outside/negative inside or negative outside/positive inside)... Thanks

    #1 Did you call Verizon?
#2 If so, what did they say about it?

  • ZyXel Prestige 861 Modem - vDSL Lights Flashing/Blinking Green

    Hi All,
The internet used to work, but now it's just flashing/blinking green. Hence the internet has gone down, and I can't figure where is the problem.
I live in a apartment (23 Floors), and the modem is setup this way:
Telephone Cable => Modem => Ethernet Cable => Router
I changed the telephone cable a few times, and even switched to a different jack that used to work (I moved the modem from the living room to the bedroom 2 years ago).
But it is still flashing/blinking green on the vDSL lights.
Also it seems like nobody had any issues with their Verizon services, could it be a hardware issue that the 5 year old ZyXel Presitage 861 modem has broken down?
Is it possible to switch to another modem, for example, Actiontec GT701D Ethernet DSL Modem?
    Thanks all

Well, I thought in the meantime while the network is down (tech is arriving tomorrow), why don't I try to debug the problem myself?
I've tested that the phone line itself works, but I don't know about the jack.
The ONT works too (The Verizon Phone Support said that ONT looks fine), so... It's some physical connection between the basement and my apartment (located 23rd floors high). I've tried all the jacks in my house, which they used to work when I was deciding the best place to put my modem and wireless router).
So it's either the modem, or the physical wiring is broken. So why not try a quick fix?
Anyways, if it's somewhere of the wiring, and also extremely difficult to fix it, I guess I need to find another apartment.

  • No wireless Internet access - DSL PPPoE modem

I have seen a few threads in the forum related to similar issues but have been unable to fully resolve my problem. I am trying to set up my Airport Express with a DSL router that runs PPPoE. When I attempt to set up the connection, my Express cannot locate the PPPoE server.
From what I understand, I need to disable PPPoE. I have done this on the Airport Express in the System Preferences (Network) but cannot figure out how to disable it on the Built-in Ethernet connection while running OSX 10.5.1.
The Airport Express indicator is solid green but I am unable to get through to the Internet. It just keeps looking for the connection but has yet to grab it.
I have used the device successfully with a DHCP set-up without any trouble but am visiting family with a different type of service. Any suggestions?
Right now I'm using an Alcatel Speed Touch broadband modem and have a Dynex Ethernet Switch that's splitting the connection between my family's PC and my Airport Express. If I hook up an Ethernet cable to my MacBook Pro and connect with the Built-in Ethernet connection, I have no trouble. So it's obviously something with my Airport Express settings.
Here's a summary of the Airport Express set-up:
    Running firmware 6.3
Internet connection: Connect using PPPoE (Service Name left blank)
    PPPoE: Connection always on
    Wireless Security: WEP 128 bit
Any advice is more than welcome.

  • Help setting up wireless network with Verizon DSL

I bought a MacBook Pro and an Air Port Extreme yesterday. I have an iMAC G5 from October 2004. I have Verizon DSL service and a Westell Series 6100 modem.
Bottom line --> I can't get the wireless connection to work.
I have successfully used a wired dsl connection with my iMAC G5. But, I tried to just disconnect the ethernet cable from my computer and put it into the Airport Extreme and that didn't work. I used the utility to set up the base station and the network, but I'm not sure if I did it properly.
I know a PPPoE is involved but I'm not sure of how to configure the system properly. I'm also not sure if the problem is with the configuration of the AirPort extreme or with my Verizon modem.
All I know is that I want to see a green light on that thing and not a flashing orange one.
Does any one have some instructions for setting up your AirPort Extreme using Verizon DSL? Has anyone else had similar problems? Thanks in advance!
    MacBook Pro & iMAC G%   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Just finished solving this problem. I am not a strong tech guy, but I know that since it works for others it is just a question of poking and pushing. Anyway it was nine hours in the making...
My snow airport working with an airport express had been bullet proof with verizon dsl for a couple of years. I wanted to upgrade since I am now Intel mac and hit the blinking amber light.
I am only going to be able to give the big picture... The AEBS found and worked with all my computers from the beginning, so the problem became that the default IP Address and Subnet Mask were wrong and never automatically adjusted by the assistants.
Take your working plug-in ethernet connections or the working snow connections from the Airport Utility Internet Connect page. I used the manual configure process to access the info screens.
I copied all the numbers down, but I believe you only have to insert the IP Address, Subnet Mask, Router Address and DNS servers. I put "dsl.verizon.net" in the domain search box.
Go up to the IPv4 pull down menu and select manual and put in the numbers you copied. Then click Update. When the software returns control, the AEBS will still be orange.
Toggle the IPv4 to "using DHCP" Click Update.
This should bring the green light.
I think I then updated the Network Preference Pane, probably had to manually put in my wireless password again. Browser and mail program worked.
I think that was all. I may have had to repeat the toggle to make it stick, but I am operational for the last several hours, including the airport express, a G4 laptop and a Sony PC.
    Hope this helps.

  • Airport Wireless and MacBook Pro Security with Verizon DSL

My Airport wireless network connects my MacBook Pro mid-2009 model and iPhone 4S via TimeCapsule (1st gen) to a Verizon DSL D-Link DSL-2750B modem/router. Lately, I've been having problems with slow speeds (since the spring it's gone from a very nice 3.8 to 2.7 to an almost halved 2.1 mpbs download speed). I tinkered around with the modem settings from the webpage control panel and reset to the factory settings to no avail as far as increasing my speed but I did get all my connections back and running again.
However, my question is this: the Macbook's wi-fi drop down menu shows the name of  my own user created wi-fi network name, along with some others throughout the neighborhood, along with my networks SSID number that everything all links up to. My Macbook connects in bridge mode via Ethernet and wi-fi with WPA2 security and is "Automatic" for the location. Is this safe to have the SSID ID listed there in plain view to the neighborhood and if not what should I do? Thank you.

I seem to be having the same basic problem-except the wireless connection works fine when I am in the basement (where the Airport Extreme is located) but when I go up flight of stairs, i get "invalid password". Of course, the password is the correct one for the wireless.
THoughts on whether it might help if I by boosters for the wireless for each floor of my house?
Oh, one other thing, my macbook pros never did this before today, my macpro desktop is on an upper floor and it connects wirelessly easily, as does my iMac on an upper floor. I've had the macbook pros working just fine for at least a year each and I didn't change any settings on any of the computers.
    Thanks

  • I cannot maintain a consistent connection with Verizon DSL

I have had my DSL since May (when i purchased my mac) and cannot keep a consistent connection to the internet. Surfing the internet is not the problem (though I do get "your computer is not connected to the internet" messages frequently) The real problem is with downloads. Mainly, I can't download. I have had 3 apple updates that i have needed to download for the past month and i cannot keep the connection to my DSL to get them. I have phoned Verizon who says that i am connected, my modem is fine and so is my phone line. I have changed the ethernet cable. Apple support is always closed when i am home and actually in front of my computer. Has anyone else experienced this with Verizon DSL and conquered it?
    Thanks.

I would suspect the modem. Has Verizon been out to check it? They should also check your phone line. You shouldn't be paying for service you don't get. I think you need to complain loudly, get a case number and work it out with them that you are not paying for service you're not getting.
