Ae-Won't open normally
When I launch AeCC, a page with the Render Queue opens and nothing else. It is responing but it won't let me do anything.
You are launching the render-only version. Check to launch the full version. Otherwise run the Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool and reinstall. Just make sure you do so with sufficient user privileges and no otehr prgrams blocking AE's operation.

Firefox won't open normally. Only opens in safe mode. Help?
I was just surfing and listening to spotify (separate app) on Windows 8 and all of a sudden all of my applications that i had open froze. i turned off the computer and turned it back on and everything worked normal except for firefox. it just kept giving me the crash reporter. the report id is Crash ID: bp-0ea35c7a-76c2-4f0e-bffb-c73342140920
I can only open it in safe mode. What can I do?Looks like that crash was caused by '''url_advisor.dll''' .

If you are running Kaspersky, check for updates for that application and any Firefox add-ons that Kaspersky installed. -
Organizer in PSE7 won't open normally
Today when I clicked on the Organizer in the welcome screen - nothing came up. Editor worked as always. A friend advised to open the organizer.exe through the program files, it came right up and worked fine, but once I close it down I still can't open it normally. I did set a shortcut on the desktop but hoping there is an easy fix without having to reinstall the program.
Thanks so much, I'm right in the middle of a project and this is a frustration.Hi John, thanks for the reply. I could use the shortcut as long as I had
the program open, once closed I had to use the shortcut to again open
Organizer. The good news is, we had a sudden and unexpected power outage a
week or so ago that lasted for several hours. When everything came back on
the Organizer worked perfectly. I've no idea what the problem and closing
down and restarting had no effect earlier.

IPhoto will not open normally - hangs up
When I try to open iPhoto, it hangs and will not open. I can go in the "back door" by choosing a photo and selecting "open with" and iPhoto, but the application won't open normally. I got my new laptop last December and migrated my applications, etc. iPhoto worked fine for a few months but has recently not been able to open.
Here's the iPhoto forum:

I recently did the latest update for my MacBook Air and when I use a specific website it won't open the popup blocker at a normal size. Any ideas on how to keep the popup blocker at the size that I select?
This is a user to user forum and Adobe Staff does drop by.
First thing to try is Reset the Type Tool by right-clicking on its' icon in the Options bar.
If you still have problems, it could be related to fonts. Here is a step by step troubleshooting help doc for that.

MacBook Pro won't start in normal mode and won't open in safe mode.
My Mac suddenly won't open in normal mode. It just stays on the apple logo and won't continue. Then, I tried going on Safe Mode. Unfortunately, it only loads up to the Apple Logo with the progress bar below it. I would load one-third the bar and shut down completely. What do I do?
Reinstall Lion, Mountain Lion, or Mavericks without erasing drive
Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported then click on the Repair Permissions button. When the process is completed, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion, Mountain Lion, or Mavericks
OS X Mavericks- Reinstall OS X
OS X Mountain Lion- Reinstall OS X
OS X Lion- Reinstall Mac OS X
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet
if possible because it is three times faster than wireless. -
I just began to update my itunes and now it won't open
Hi,
My Itunes won't open when i click on in, at first it would do nothing but then when i tried to reinstall it and fix some errors with it, now it acts like its going to download something every time i click on it. What do i need to do so that i can make my itunes work normally again?Try opening iTunes in "Safe Mode" (without external plug-ins) and see it the problem persists. To do this press Command+Option (while opening iTunes).
If you decide to remove a plug-in, they are in your Library folder -> iTunes folder -> iTunes Plug-Ins. -
Safari won't open when I click the icon on my desktop. It just comes up with an error and says that it "quit unexpectantly." It does however open when I turn on my macbook in safe mode (which is what I'm doing now). My mac os is version 10.6.8. It's completely updated and worked perfectly before I updated it earlier today. Anyone have any idea what could be wrong? I've restarted my computer a few times and it hasn't done anything. After I restart my computer in the normal mode once more I'll post the error that I keep getting.

Programs keep not responding, computer freezes often, apple mail won't open
Starting yesterday my computer has been running very slowly. it takes almost 15 minutes to start up and then programs won't open or will quit unexpectedly or not respond. Not to mention that my computer freezes every 30 seconds or so. I have 4gb of crucial ram that system diagnostics say is ok. i don't know what is wrong.
Have you tried opening Mail from the Applications folder. The Dock alias may be corrupt.
Try a restart.
Do a backup, using either Time Machine or a cloning program, to ensure files/data can be recovered. Two backups are better than one.
Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. If Back-to-My Mac is selected in System Preferences, the Guest account will not work. The intent is to see if it is specific to one account or a system wide problem. This account can be deleted later.
Isolating an issue by using another user account
If the problem is still there, try booting into the Safe Mode using your normal account. Disconnect all peripherals except those needed for the test. Shut down the computer and then power it back up after waiting 10 seconds. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. When you reboot normally, the initial reboot may be slower than normal. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application un-installer. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once.

iTunes won't open.
I get this message: The iTunes Library .itl file is locked, on a locked disk or you do not have write permission for this file. This may indicate a corrupt preference file with iTunes trying to open the wrong location. Try holding down shift as you launch iTunes then choose the correct file, normally <User's Music>\iTunes\iTunes Library.itl. See iTunes: How to open an alternate iTunes Library file or create a new one.

My Time Machine won't back up and files won't open when double clicked.
I'm not sure if these are related, but recently my MacBook Pro has been acting much more sluggish than usual.
To start, I have a 13in MacBook Pro Mid 2012 model with a 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5 processor and 4 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 memory. I've got it new in the summer of 2012, and haven't had any real problems until now. I have a 1TB Hitachi external hard drive with over 600GB left of storage. I'm running Yosemite.
Lately, as in the past few weeks but more noticeably the past few days, I can't open files if I just double click on them from my desktop or from searching them outside of the application. For instance, if I click on a word document on my desktop, it will cause the work icon to bounce for a while, pretending to open, but it never does. If the application is already running, the file just won't open. If I search from the "open" selection within the application, it works fine. This is true for all of my Microsoft Office apps, Photoshop, Preview, iTunes, and everything in between, all of which I had never had a problem with before.
Next, anytime I try to backup my system using Time Machine, it simply shows the "Preparing Backup" status and never starts. I've had the hard drive and used it as a Time Machine since I got the computer, and have had zero problems at all.
I've tried CleanMyMac2, Memory Clean, and I've always kept my Mac very clean and organized, as in no duplicate files, moving my biggest files onto my hard drive, and deleting any of my unnecessary files. I know I don't have a ton of RAM left, but I'm honestly not completely sure what to do about that, as this model apparently doesn't have RAM updates available.
Think you all can help?
Thanks so much. Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Please take this step regardless of the results of Step 1.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2. -
Files in Finder but won't open
I made a disc image the other day using Carbon Copy Cloner and when I mount it, there are a bunch of files that list in the Finder just like they would normally, with appropriate file sizes and their icons in tact, but they won't open in their respective applications. Every file, like a quicktime for example, if you double click it will open its associated application but then the app will report an error like "can't understand file" or something like that. Does anyone have experience with files that appear to be there but won't open? THanks.
PS - permissions seem to be set correctly on these files -Hello Sean:
According to your profile information, you are running OS X 10.3.x. If that is the case, you should post in that forum as you are liable to get incorrect answers here. If you are running OS X 10.4.X, I have read that CCC had some compatibility problems with OS X 10.4 - I do not know if they are resolved (I dumped CCC in favor of SuperDuper months ago). I only use SD (and before that CCC) to make bootable clones......

Mail won't open or close properly
My Mail app won't open in a conventional way. The toolbar appears for Mail so the app is open but the window does not appear.
If I click View > Enter Fullscreen it will do that, but then if I exit full screen, instead of staying in front of me and just shrinking in size a little bit, as it normally would, it totally disappears into my desktop.
Any help would be appreciated.Hi MistaDan,
It may be that the Mail windows is somewhere on the edge of the screen. Should this be the case, you can use the "Zoom" option under the Window menu, and the Mail window should appear on the screen.
This solved my question by VikingOSX on Oct 17, 2012 10:57 AM
Window > Zoom.
Command and + key will zoom in.
Command and - key will zoom out.
For applications that support trackpad zoom, enable Zoom in or out in Trackpad Scroll & Zoom prefs.
See video at System Preferences > Trackpad > Scroll & Zoom. Hover pointer over Zoom in or Out.

mail won't open, the little light by the icon in the dock won't go away, it won't quit, and it won't let my mac shut down even if i let the battery die, it just goes to sleep until you plug it in. Someone please help me!!
Launch Activity Monitor (in /Applications/Utilities folder), find the Mail process, and force quit it from there. If this is NOT an admin-privileged account, then log out, log back in to an admin-privileged account, run Disk Utility Verify Disk. IF problems are reported, reboot from installer DVD and run Disk Utility Repair Disk from the installer DVD. Launch it from Utilities menubar item once the menubar is visible. If you are now running booted off the installer DVD, when repair disk is complete reboot normally and log back in to admin account and download 10.6.2 combo update from http://support.apple.com/kb/DL959 and reapply it. Then run software update from the menubar item. Let us know if that works or not.
