AEBS and Airport Extreme to create dual wireless networks

Sorry if this post is redundant, but I am not sure I put in the right place before.
I would like to know if this is possible.
I have an AEBS that has several n and g wireless clients. I would like to have dual networks; one n only and one g only. Can this be achieved by the following:
1. Connect cable modem to AEBS (which is set to n only) and has one network name.
2. Use an ethernet cable from one of the three ports in the back of the AEBS to an Airport express which would generate a second network with a different name for my g only devices.
Will this work? Thanks in advance!

Yes, it should. I have a similar setup myself (except I have an Airport "Extreme" BS G for my "g" band). However, do you have an Airport "Extreme" BS G or an Airport "Express" G/N to supply your "g" band? Your post's subject Title and Body's information conflict in this regard.

  • HT5022 How do i use my airport extreme to extend my wireless network, or make the signal stronger

I have a wireless modem/router and want to use my airport extreme to strengthen the signal throughout my house...how do i do that?

Plan to establish a permanent Ethernet cable connection from one of the available LAN <-> ports on your modem/router to the WAN "O" port on the AirPort Extreme. Locate the AirPort Exteme in a central location in the general area where more wireless coverage is desired.
Configure the AirPort Extreme using AirPort Utility to "create" a wireless network using the exact same wireless network name, same exact wireless security settings and same exact password that your modem/router uses.
Finally, the Extreme must be configured in Bridge Mode to operate correctly with the modem/router.
To get everything in the proper sequence on the network....once the Extreme is configured, power off the entire network for a few minutes. Then start the modem/router first and let it run a minute by itself. Then start the Exteme next the same way. Continue starting devices the same way until the entire network is back up.

I have a pioneer vsx-910-k and airport express.I have a wireless network at home. What's the best arquiecture/config to do with this hardware?

I would suggest that you connect the Pioneer to the AirPort Express Base Station using an optical digital audio cable that has a TOSlink connector on one end and a 3.5 mm optical connector (Mini Plug) on the other. You can then connect the Mini Plug end into the AirPort's audio port and the TOSlink end into one of the Pioneer's optical digital audio ports.

  • Airport Extreme - Cannot join a wireless network

I just purchased the Airport Extreme and cannot get it to find a wireless network. In the Airport Utility I receive the following messages, "Joining a wireless network….An error occurred joining the selected wireless network.". I cannot proceed past this point. When I select "manual" configure I get the same error message. I've tried repeatedly disconnecting the cable & power from the modem and the airport extreme and then restarting but nothing happens. Any advice would be appreciated!

If you have a cable modem, you will need to power it off for at least 15-20 minutes and pull the battery if is has one as it is remembering the last device (probably your computer) that is was connected to. Power it back up after 20 minutes and connect the ethernet cable to the WAN port on the AEBS.
Suggest you do a factory default reset to clear the corrupted settings and start over again on the AEBS
    Power down the AEBS
Hold in the reset button +and keep holding it in+ as you plug the power back in
Release the reset button after approximately 8-10 seconds
Temporarily, connect an ethernet cable from your computer to one of the LAN <-> ports on the AEBS to help AirPort Utility connect with the device.
You will be configuring the AEBS to "Share a public IP address" and "create a wireless network. The guided setup will step you through.

  • Airport Extreme in a Windows wireless network

    Hello
I am connected to the internet via a Windows based NetGear wireless network. There are also other computers on this network, though they are running Windows (which is why I say it is a Win based network). I want to connect a wireless enabled printer to my network. My question is can I connect a USB printer to an 802.11g Airport Extreme base station so I can print wirelessly from anywhere on the network. Is so how can this be done?
I created a separate Airport network (it even had the same network name as the NetGear network) with my Mac and the Airport Extreme, the problem is that I can't be on both networks simultaneously and I have to forgo internet access or printing capabilities.
Has anyone had a similar experience. Any help would be appreciated. thank you

The only way you can integrate your Airport Extreme base station into your existing network is to run an ethernet cable between it and your existing Netgear wireless router. Then turn off the router and radio built into the Airport base station (since both of those functions are provided by your Netgear wireless router).
It is not possible to have the Airport Extreme base station communicate wirelessly with your Netgear wireless router. The Airport Extreme WDS feature can only be used in association with another Airport Extreme base station - Apple's implementation of WDS is not supported by your Netgear router.
Note that you could use an Apple Airport Express. That device can connect to a USB printer and it can be configured to wirelessly "join" the existing wireless network created by your Netgear router. Again, this is a feature not possible with Apple's Airport Extreme base stations.

  • How do i set up time capsule to work with airport extreme base to extend wireless network?

i have a airport extreme base, how do i set up a time machine to extend the wireless network i have with airport extreme? i have also 3 airport express's connected to the same network to extend my wifi all over my house. thanks in advance.

    Much better graphics, thanks.
You can leave the Time Capsule connected by Ethernet from the Linksys and configure for a "roaming" network as mentioned previously.
To do this, open AirPort Utility - Manual Setup
Click the Wireless tab below the icons
Wireless Mode = Create a wireless network
Wireless Network Name = Same name as the AirPort Extreme
No check mark needed next to Allow this network to be extended
Radio Mode = Same setting as the AirPort Extreme
    Channel = Automatic
Wireless Security = Same setting as the AirPort Extreme
Wireless Password = Same password as the AirPort Extreme
    Confirm Password
Click the Internet icon, then the Internet Connection tab
    Connect Using = Ethernet
Connection Sharing = Off (Bridge Mode)
Update to save settings and allow the Time Capsue to restart
Then power down the entire network
    Wait a minute or two
Start the modem first and let it run a full minute
Start the AirPort Extreme the same way
    Power up the switch
Power up the Time Capsule for a minute
Keep starting devices one at a time about a minute apart
Now, your computer will automatically pick up a wireless signal from either the AirPort Extreme or Time Capsule, whichever device is closer and providing the stronger signal.

  • How do i use the airport extreme to extend my wireless network

How do i connected my airport extreme up to my existing network so that it can extend my wireless through out the house ??
Can it be done wirelessly or do i need an ethernet cable thats about 10m ?
    Keith

The AirPort Exteme can "extend" your existing wireless network (using wireless only) if it is being provided by another Apple router.
If your current main router is not an Apple product, then you will need to plan to connect the AirPort Extreme to your router using an Ethernet cable.
Post back for more information if needed.

  • After setting up airport extreme to my existing wireless network after restart unable to conect even the light is green is telling me need to manage network im usin airport utility in pc

I try to set up my airport extreme thru my existing  wifi network using airport utility 5.6 on pc after i was done said that after restarting unable to located extreme to check in my manage networks Ican se green light on extreme but can not find in network to manually add on. Any help woul be appreciated!

If nothing works, try a factory reset: disconnect the Extreme from power, press the reset button, plug in power while still pressing the reset button, release reset button after 5 seconds or so.
This method usually helps me with problems with my Airport Extreme and Express (this happens seldom by the way). The only disadvantage is that you have to set it up again completely.

  • How can I use an airport extreme to extend my wireless network?

I have a Verizon FIOs router with both wireless and ethernet capability. I also have an airport extreme base station, which is currently connected to the Verizon router by Ethernet and provides wireless to a MacBook in a distant room upstairs. Practically, I have two wireless network now. I have two G4 Sawtooth, which do not have wireless PCI card and require ethernet connection for internet. One of them is in the upstairs study room and connected to the Verizon wireless router by Ethernet. The other is in an downstairs room has not wireless connection.
Can I relocate the airport base station to downstairs and connect it to the Sawtooth there for receiving wireless from the Verizon router and broadcast further to its wireless network? If so, how do I set up the airport station downstairst? If not, I know that I have get a PCI wifi for the Sawtooth downstairs.
    Your advice is greatly appreciated.
    Robert

Sorry but no the AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS) will not wirelessly connect to the network provided by the Verizon FiOS router.
What you could do is get another AEBS, an AX, or a Time Capsule and place that downstairs. Then use that device to wirelessly connect to the wireless network provided by your current AEBS. If your current AEBS is not 802.11n capable then you would need to use WDS to make this happen. One bad thing about WDS is that each WDS link cuts your affective wireless bandwidth in half.

  • Airport Extreme (802.11n dual) breaks network HP photosmart 3210 scanning

I just "upgraded" from a Netgear to a new April 2009 Airport Extreme Base Station (802.11n dual). With the latest HP software etc the HP photosmart 3210 all-in-one scanner (connected via network to the router) works fine with my macs (a bunch of 10.5 machines), but when I swap out and use the new Apple Router the Scanning hanges and a message pops up on HP Scan Pro SW "Error (Sorry, scanner could not be initialized. An error has occurred communicating with the scanner.)" I reinstalled the HP SW and re-added the printer - no change.
Printing is fine - and scanning is fine when I go back to my old router. This looks like a router firmware issue, I'm probably going to have to return the router - bummer - anybody have this issue or can help?

Thanks for the idea, but my printer is connected by ethernet to the router and desktop computers - (I haven't tried wireless scanning with my laptops). I wouldn't think that wireless settings would impact the wired part of the router - but you never know.
It is frustrating how many incompatibility there are from router to router I don't understand why there can't be a standard and everyone sticks to it. (another example, google maps detailed zooming in and out will always freeze my netgear router - which is one reason I went to the apple router!)

  • Mac Mini Airport Extreme - Cannot detect any wireless networks

    Hello,
Last week my Mac Mini (Power PC)'s hard disk crashed. So I did a DIY replacement. I managed to re-install all the software, and installed all the latest updates.
However, for some reason, the Airport Extreme is not detecting any wireless network after the re-install.
My own wireless network router is a third-party, which has been working well for the last 2 years. My Window PC and laptop still connects to it fine.
I can see the Airport icon but it doesn't how any detected networks (and there are quite a few in my neighbourhood). I did Apple Hardware Test and it shows the Airport card to be working ok.
    Any help would be wonderful!
    Regards,

It still may be possible that the antenna wire is not placed properly within the Mini. Here are an excerpt of the DIY instructions for installing the wireless antenna. Hope it helps...
    - Make sure that the antenna cables are firmly seated in the mezzanine board.
    - Pass the antenna cables through the gap at the rear of the internal frame.
    - Carefully lower the internal frame down onto the motherboard. Make sure that the wires are routed to the right of the interconnect board.
    - Snap the AirPort antenna onto the black plastic column next to the rear port panel.
    - Tape the AirPort antenna wire to the edge of the DVD drive.

  • Probnlems Adding PC to Airport Extreme (bought in 04) wireless network

I have an older Airport extreme base station. I am using WPA encryption with a 9 digit alpha numeric password that I put in. I can connect fine, although the difference between internet speed is considerable. I am trying to connect to the same network with a pc, using HP WLAN 802.11 a/b/g W500 software. Once I connect to the system (I enter the password and it connects and says it connected) and try to use internet explorer, it says it cannot connect to the website I specified. I have no idea how to fix this, since the computer says it is connected, but it obviously isn't since I can't connect to a website using the application that I always use (internet explorer). Please help me if you can. My mac is working perfect, but my pc is dead in the water.

See if it is a WPA issue, temporarily turn off WPA and see if you can now connect.

  • Can I use my AirPort express to create a wireless network in my uni room?

So, I'm going to university in september and my room has an ethernet port to connect to the internet. If I buy an AirPort express, can I plug it into the ethernet port to create a wirelss network in my room?

The quick answer is yes.  However, You should check with the appropriate University authorities to make sure they will allow it (some do not)  If they agree, they may offer you a tutorial as to what you need to do to enable it.
Many business people utilize the Airport Express to provide the convenience of Wi fi in their hotel rooms, if the hotel doesn't supply an in house Wi Fi system.

  • Airport extreme won't extend wireless network

I have two airport extreme base stations (the 802.11n versions, both of them), both with the latest firmware.  One is the main base station, connected to the cable modem.  The second is set up to extend the network where the signal from the first is weak.
After working flawlessly for about 6 months, the second airport extreme, the one that extends the network, will not do anything but blink yellow.  I have turned the power off and on, restored default settings through Airport Utility, and performed a hard reset.  After the latter two, I am able to "see" the unit again, and configure it again to extend the network, but immediately after doing so it goes back to non-functioning blinking yellow signal.
Is this just likely a hardware problem so that I need to bring it in?  Or is there something more I can try?
    Many thanks.

Is this just likely a hardware problem so that I need to bring it in?  Or is there something more I can try?
Before bringing it back I would suggest that you temporarily relocate the extending Extreme into the same room as the Extreme it is extending. Go ahead and reconfigure them for an extended network. This time does the extending Extreme provide you with a steady green status light?
If this is the case, you may find that just need to reposition the extending Extreme in a different location so that it is within a Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) range greater than 25 dB. Let me know if you would like for me to provide you with step-by-step direction on how to calculate SNR jusing a Mac laptop.
The other thing would be to verify that there isn't some new form of Wi-Fi interference present that is preventing the extending base station from receiving a quality signal.

  • Combine Timecapsule and Airport Extreme

    Hello,
I want to use a Time Capsule and Airport Extreme to create a wireless network in the house. Both are in different rooms, and connected by physical cable to the router.
Can they create a single wireless network in this configuration? I want to ensure they both connect to the internet through their respective cables, and avoid that they connect to each other through the wireless connection to avoid too much signal loss (several thick walls between them)
    Thanks for feedback,
    Tom

    Thanks,
Where do I see connection type Ethernet? Using airport utility 6
And how to connect the ethernet cables?
Have a dsl model from my internet provider. Do I connect both time capsule and airport extreme to a port on the dsl router, or do i connect one of them (eg time capsule) to the dsl router, and the other one (e.g airport extreme) to the time capsule?
    Cheers,
    Tom
