AEBS Direct Connection To Internet

Hi, i was wondering if it's possible to connect my DSL cable directly to my AEBS without going through my BT broadband hub ( 2wire gateway ).
When setting up yesterday as per apple setup guide my BT broadband hub recognised aebs as a " third party router ". Everything is working fine & i have disabled the wireless facility on the BT hub,but i'm just wondering if i can bypass the BT hub altogether.
Many thanks in advance for any help

Hi Duane thanks for your reply. The DSL cable ( WAN ) is attached to my BT hub and runs to an ADSL filter which is plugged in to the phone line. I'm new to this so bear with me!!
When i saw that the BT hub had recognised AEBS as a 3rd party router i thought i could bypass the BT hub altogether as the wireless facility on it was disabled & just run the DSL ( WAN ) cable straight in to AEBS so as to get the benefit of 802.11n My BT hub is 802.11g
The way i have it at the moment is an ethernet from the BT hub to AEBS & it's working fine but not at 802.11n.
Hope this makes sense....

how can I download an ebook to my ipad when i don't have wifi and only a direct connection to the internet?

I always do my Rentals with the itunes program on the computer.
Make rental from itunes store. It will show in movies under library, DO NOT click to play it. Plug in the device to the computer. Click the name of the device on left. Click on movies. There is an  option to copy to the device. Sync. obviously you still need space on ipad to put rental but you can have it take computers hard drive space until you need it.

  • Is there a way to connect an Apple TV directly to the Internet?

    Hi,
I was wondering if there is a way to forgo the network connection and just plug my Apple TV straight into the broadband modem via ethernet cable for internet access to the iTunes Store.
I have DHCP enabled, but the Apple TV is telling me the iTunes store is unavailable. Same for YouTube when I try the direct connection. When I switch the ethernet cable back to the router, everything is fine.
    -thanks

I tried looking at the network connection settings from my G4, and then plugging them in manually to the Apple TV, but that also failed.
It's not a big deal, I'm just trying some new things out.
Someone let me know if they have ever been able to connect an ethernet cable directly into a broadband modem and successfully pulled songs/podcasts/tv shows etc. from the internet onto the Apple TV.

  • Airport not connecting to Internet, but I can connect directly

Hi - My Airport Extreme (4th Generation) suddenly popped up and told me it was reporting problems.  I cannot remember exactly what the issue was, but I think it was something with the IP address.   (sorry, I know that's not helpful.)  Since then I have talked with my ISP, found I can directly connect via the ethernet, and wiped the Airport back to factory settings.  Any suggestions?  I can connect to the Airport, but it doesn't go out to the Internet.  Again, it's not the ISP, because I can connect with the Ethernet.  Thanks!

A little more info - I remembered the error had to do with Bridge mode, telling me I had to either turn it on or off.  And the current issue is that it does not have an IP address???  But I see an IP address on there - it's not pulling it from the modem???  Thanks!

  • Problems connecting to internet with AEBS

Equipment: MacBookPro (OS 10.5.3), AEBS (v.7.2.1), iMac (OS10.5.3)
MacBookPro is about 20+ feet from AEBS, iMac using same AEBS, about 3 feet away. Time Warner cable modem. When I try to connect to internet on MBP, nearly every time it fails and if I do manage to get on it is slower than the slowest dial-up. If I then go into network diagnostics and go through the whole 9 yards of setting it up, I can usually connect but connection is often slow. Needless to say, this is a royal pain since my work requires me to go on line frequently. Am pretty sure the trouble started when we hooked up the iMac, but not 100% certain. Went to see the "genius" who was stymied.
Just did some trouble shooting - switched the locations of the computers and both seem to be working fine and at speed I'd expect given equipment and cable modem. So now I'm thinking there is something about the MBP and its distance from the AEBS, since why both would work fine when we switched their locations?
    Any thoughts out there?
    Thanks for your time.

Although, I know that you mentioned that you have reset your AirPort, I strongly suggest that you perform a complete power recycle of your network components to see if this will get the modem and your AEBSn communicating properly.
    Please try the following:
o Power-down the modem, AEBSn, and computer(s); wait at least 10-15 minutes. Order is not critical.
o Power-up the modem. If it has a reset switch, go ahead and perform a modem reset. After the reset, wait at least 10-15 minutes.
o Power-up the AEBSn; wait at least 5-10 minutes.
    o Power-up the computer(s).
Your computer(s) should now be able to access the Internet thru the AEBSn either by wire or wireless. Please post back your results.

  • Connecting to Internet with Windows Directions

Hello, I am currently deployed overseas and my room is hardwired for internet. They provided me directions to connect to the internet, but I am not having any success. These are the WINDOWS directions they provided:
    1. Open Internet Explorer
    2. Click on Tools
    3. Click on Internet Options
    4. Click on Connections
    5. Click on LAN Settings
    6. Type in Address: 10.100.0.1 Port: 8080
    7. Click on OK
You are now connected to Internet.
What I did was go to:
    1. Network
    2. Built-in Ethernet
    3. Clicked on Settings
    4. Disabled the THCP (i think that's right)
    5. Tabbed over to Ethernet and manually typed in the IP Address and Port above for all settings
    6. Clicked "Apply Now"
But I still could not connect. Am I doing something wrong? Please help...thank you.

The instructions you were given appear to be incomplete. For a fixed IP address, you also need to enter a network gateway address and the address of the domain name server (DNS) serving your network. Without those, your system will not be able to connect to the Internet. You'll need to go back to whoever gave you those instructions and ask for the rest of the information.
    Good luck.

    Wi-Fi Setup Considerations
Things to consider before you begin
Start with a plan for the physical layout. Depending on whether you have an existing Wi-Fi network, or if you are using your AirPort Express as a standalone Wi-Fi device, there are several options available for you to choose from.
When using Ethernet, Cat6 cable is recommended.
The layout you choose should take into account environmental factors such as physical access, location, range, radio frequency interference, etc.
You will need to consider what AirPort Utility settings to adopt.
You will need to know whether you are using an AirPort Express (802.11b/g) or an AirPort Express (802.11a/b/g/n).
If you will be using more than one Wi-Fi base station, it may be helpful to read the article Extending the range of your wireless network by adding additional Wi-Fi base stations.

  • What is the direct connect method for transfering photos from my macbook pro to my iphone without using iTunes syncronization? (iow: a simple photo copy from mac to iphone?)

I feel like I should know the answer to this. I can't believe it is a hard question.
What is the direct connect method for transfering photos from my macbook pro to my iphone without using iTunes syncronization? (iow: a simple photo copy from mac to iphone?)
    Easy? Right?
Just plug my iphone in to a mac and copy a photo from the mac to my iphone.
I don't have internet access - I can't email it, or mobileme it, or dropbox it.

iTunes. Other than that there is no direct method. However, do try the iPhone forums.

  • My 1st Generation time capsule won't connect to the internet thru a new motorola sb6121 - get continuously flashing yellow light. Using a router in between the modem and capsule yields good but slower connection to internet. Any thoughts?

My 1st Generation time capsule won't connect to the internet thru a new motorola sb6121 - get continuously flashing yellow light. Using a router in between the modem and capsule yields good but slower connection to internet. Any thoughts?

    Thanks for your response
Let me give the history - I started with an Apple Express being fed thru a D-Link  EBTR 2310 cable Router from an RCA DCM315 Modem (Pure). Comcast service all the way.
Got the 1st generation TC in 2008 and merely replaced the Airport Express with the TC. Worked ok
A year or two ago I did try removing the modem and feeding the TC directly from the modem. Resulted in the same condition I have now - Continuous flashing amber on the TC. So I put the router back in the chain.
Some time later, at the recommendation of a Comcast rep, I replaced the router with (a Belkin F5D 5231) to see if speed and dropout problems would be improved. I thought it helped some at the time but now I am not so sure.
Last week I decided to see if a new modem would help with download speeds. So I got another pure cable modem (Motorola SB 6121- high on the Comcast recommended list).
Got up and running easily with Comcast help and with the modem connected directly to a computer.
Next I put the TC in the link and again could not get past the TC continuing to flash amber. Although I did get connected to the internet with this configuration I lost connection two both of my printers - one connected by USB and the other wirelessly to the TC. Again everything works fine when I put the Belkin router back in the system.
    However with the router in there, the modem shows the downstream connection to be 10/100 ethernet speed. (Modem light changes color for indicating speeds.}
I have gone thru all of the combinations of powering down/ up, but all stays the same.
I can live with what I have but something still doesn’t seem right.
    Thanks again

  • Airport Extreme can't connect to Internet

    Hi all,
I recently inherited a 4th gen airport extreme base station and i cant connect to the internet wirelessly. The light is green, the comcast motorola modem is working fine, but when i open a webpage, nothing comes up on any of my devices (MacBook running lion, iPhone, playstation).  I've reset/unplugged the modem and soft/hard/factory reset the airport extreme a hundred times, sometimes leaving them unplugged for 30 minutes, but no luck. Sometimes after a reset the Internet will work for a few minutes but then suddenly stop eventhough I'm still "connected" and the light's green.
The airport worked perfectly fine at my friend's house who also used a Comcast modem. And my modem worked great for the last 6 months with my 1st gen airport extreme that I am trying to replace with this malfunctioning 4th gen. Called Comcast and they said the modem looks great on their end, no signal cut outs and Internet connected. Other things I've tried but without luck:
    - plug in laptop directly to modem (internet works) write down working DNS addresses and put those in to the airport utility manually.
    - renew dhcp lease which sometimes makes it work for 30 seconds
    - update firmware to latest
    - downloaded air radar and made sure channels used were clear
    - turn on only 5 ghz channel
    - of note, I own no cordless phones or other 2.4 ghz wireless electronics that I'm aware of.
Please help, this is driving me crazy! Thank you so much in advance.
    Happy Holidays

I am having a similar issue in that I have intermittent Internet connectivity. I found using Mozilla's Camino browser as a work around, or I switch to one of my other AirPort Expresses. This started happening on Friday the 9th. I am not sure if it is the AirPort Extreme or the AirPort Disk Utility software I installed.

  • 4th Gen won't connect to internet even though it says it's connected

    Hello Apple Community!
I have been using my (4th Gen) Time Capsule to back up my devices and for my household WiFi for about 2 years now. The other day, after a storm, my connectivity was down. I thought it was my ISP, but after bypassing the TC and plugging the Ethernet Cable that would normally connect to the TC directly into my laptop, I was finally able to get back onto the web. (In fact, I am typing this question while hard-wired directly to my ISP modem... but I digress).
Here's the problem (and screenshot's provide a thousand words) -
The Time Capsule SAYS it is connected, but every single device that is connected to it {iPhones, MacBook, Xbox, etc.} will not connect to the internet.  Each device is giving an error saying "Cannot connect to internet" or "Unable to connect to internet".
    Remedies I have tried already:
Contacted ISP and verified that the internet was still working
Reset ALL devices including - modem and TC (like... 100 times)
Checked update for TC (and I am current with update 7.6.4)
Switched from DHCP to Static IP
Programmed DNS server to recommended addresses (99.196.99.99 and 99.197.99.99) and released them back to automatic
Turned OFF security password for WiFi and set network to OPEN
    Factory Reset TC
Rebooted both TC and modem through both Apple recommended and ISP recommended power cycle instructions
Read through all current, passed and relevant 4th Gen Time Capsule connectivity issues throughout thread
I am about to see how the TC floats in the pond out back soon... (not kidding).
I have tried everything and it wont work!  The only way I am typing this to the community is directly connecting to the ISP modem.  Any suggestions, please help!
{P.S. - I took the screenshot of the router by pugging the cord back into the AirPort TC so you could see what I see, but again, to no avail.. I couldn't connect to the internet via the WiFi)

Electrical storm could have blown the WAN port of the TC, without the TC diagnostics showing it up.. hence the green led.
If you have not already done so, try powering down the TC for several hours. You need it cold, so overnight is a good idea.
Power up the TC and quickly test it.. you have around 10min before issues start if it has heat issues.
No luck quickly change the TC to bridge mode.. ie on the Network tab.. make sure it is off (bridge mode).
Plug the modem to another port of the TC.. LAN 1 2 or 3.. does the light come on?? From a computer, test if you have internet access. In this mode only one computer should have internet. Tell me how that test goes.
Do you have a computer running any OS prior to Mavericks? Even windows would do so you can load 5.6 airport utility.
In 5.6 utility you can set wan port speed to 10mbit half duplex.. I want you to do that.
And then test it again in router mode.
    What modem are you using??

  • Updating firmware in Airport Express disables connection to Internet

After updating my Airport Express to firmware 7.6.1 it will no longer connect to the internet via a 4-port router that is connected to a DSL modem. This arrangement was working immediately prior to the firmware upgrade. I have unplugged/plugged in the AE, turned off then on the modem/router/AE combo all to no avail.
The AE establishes a LAN, but Airport Utility indicates that the AE beleives that the Internet is disconnected, when in fact all the other devices attached to the router via ethernet cableing works as expected.
Any suggestions for reestablishing a working internet connection via the AE would be appreciated. Thanks.

I was able to fix the issue by directly connecting my AE to my MBP with an ethernet cable and using Airport Utiliites to reset the AE to factory conditions. I then had to reenter the various usernames & passwords on each of my connected devices, a pain but at least the AE now works well.

  • Airport Express wireless network works fine, but won't connect to Internet

I had a power outage and since then my Airport Express doesn't connect to the Internet although everything else seems to work. I can see the AE just fine in the Airport Utility. My computer connects to the wireless network provided via the AE, so does my iPhone, so does my wireless printer, and I can print wirelessly from the computer to the printer, so the AE's wireless networking is working. If I directly connect my computer to the ethernet connection that I use for the AE, it connects to the Internet, so I have wired connectivity to the Internet. But somehow, I can't get to the Internet using the wireless network of the AE. Any suggestions on what I should try next?

    Hi there,
Try to reset your Airport Express (AX), y pressing the little dot on the back of device. Keep pressed for some seconds until it flashes. Start then your Airport Utility and go through the setup process again. This will reset your whole wireless network. This may work for you. Good luck.

  • Can't connect to internet - but all settings seem correct!

My G5 can't connect to the internet (but my Mac Pro can). I've just had an engineer out because I thought it was the cable connection (I connect via a cable modem). Yet I can ping a host via the Network Utility when I boot from the Tiger DVD - so there doesn't seem to be a hardware problem. But from my user account I can't access the internet.
All the Network settings look fine - no firewall, nothing looks out of place. I'm getting an IP address served by the modem, and Diagnostics even says it can connect to the ISP server just no dialog with the internet!!! It's bizzare. Tried ping from Terminal too, no go. I've repaired permissions, still no go. Only thing I haven't done is zap the PRAM.
This is a direct connection to the modem via ethernet (I usually use a router but it's out of the equation now)
There's something blocking the connection but I can't find out what.
This happened after I swapped the network round so that my new Mac Pro would be the main internet machine (sharing the connection with other machines on my network). Previously I could connect to the G5 via the Mac Pro but that's no longer working, or rather it's REALLLLLY slow, it will eventually connect.
The only thing I've done out of the ordinary is put the drive from the G5 inside the Mac Pro to transfer some of my files. I had used BatChmod to change permissions on some User folders so I could copy them, but I've repaired the premissions since.
    please HELP!!!!!!

I solved my problem by installing a fresh system on a different drive and starting from that. My Mac can now connect - but starting up into the other system causes the same no-internet problem so I can only assume it is some OS corruption that caused it.
    Hope that helps someone.

  • Can't connect to Internet using airport

I am trying to connect to internet wirelessly, using my Airport Extreme (802.11n), but it won't work. When I use the ethernet cable directly to my MacBook Pro (as I am now) internet comes fine. I have done many tests, change configuration, but nothing works. I really don't know what the problem is and what to do.

Just as an update, I have been able to reestablish connection by resetting the airport base.
