AEBS Distance-Improvements after Model A 1143?

My 2005 Airport Extreme Base Station, model # A1143, is starting to get unreliable on farther distances, while still ok up close.
Before I go out and purchase the current Airport model, does anyone know whether newer versions have seen an improvement in reach or speed (I use an IMac G5 pre-Intel machine and an older G4 iBook over a courtyard distance of ca. 70 ft with good results until recently)?
Also, would there be a compatibility issue using the current AEBS with OS 10.4.11 (I need to keep that older OS version, due to its OS 9 compatibility)?  Or can I save my money and get a used A1143, and would see the maximum reach possible, even with that version?
P.S.: I have done all firmware updates and tried soft and hard resets, but the transmission remains erratic.

This is somewhat of a good news / bad news situation.
The good news is that the newer versions of the AirPort Extreme provide up to a 25% improvement in distance capabilities due to an improved wireless antenna design.
The bad news is that the newer versions of the AirPort Extreme require AirPort Utility 5.5.2 for configuration. This version of AirPort Utility will only run on Leopard 10.5.7 or higher or Snow Leopard.
If you want to continue to use your current operating systems, the idea to use another A 1143 version would work if you configured the second AirPort Extreme "to extend a wireles network". In this configuration, the second AirPort Extreme would provide more wireless coverage to a remote area.
In general, the "extending" AirPort Extreme would need to be located where it can receive a good, strong signal to "extend". This means that it must be located about 1/2 the distance from the main wireless router to the area that needs more wireless coverage.

    can i measure moving distance using after effects?

    I don't know what you mean. If you mean take measurements like you can in Photoshop and relating them to the real world then the answer is not easily. No Effect I know of allows you to do that. If you mean measuring the distance in pixels a layer moves on any axis, yes you can measure that and display the result using an expression by either referring to a valueAtTime of a keyframe or a layer marker. For a layer marker for example showing the X distance a layer moves starting at first layer marker you would add this expression to the source text of a blank text layer. The moving layer would be named "target."
    t = thisComp.layer("target");
    mp = t.marker.key(1).time;
    ip = t.position.valueAtTime(mp);
    np = t.position[0] - ip[0];
    Math.round(np)
    If the layer is moving left to right and the marker is in the middle of the layer then the numbers will be negative until the marker is reached, zero at the marker, then positive after the marker is past.

    Hi all.
    I try to import model from erwin 7.3 in data modeler Version 3.0.0.665

    i receive similar model as erwin-model. but afeter saving and reopening almost all datatype set as UNKNOWN. what`s wrong?
    i try change type for one column from UNKNOWN to NUMBER and again save/reopen. this change was saving.
    how i can save source datatypes after import model?

    Hello,
    I have no definitive idea as to why you are losing the dataypes, though I suspect it has to do with setting the Design Rules under the Tools option.
    The suggestion I want to make is that you generate the DDL from Erwin and and import this and save, all data types should save, they have for me. Also Have found the DDL import to be the most reliable along with importing from Oracle Designer and Oracle database data dictionaries.
    If you have logical objects you want to transfer over then I would advise export Erwin to Oracle Designer and import to SQL Data Modeler.
    If you go through the threads on this forum you are no alone in finding issues with Erwin import.
    Hope that helps.

  • JTable cell being edited after model changed.

    I have a fairly simple JTable, with a implementation of AbstractTableModel supplying the data. The cells are edited by using a JComboBox. I wrap these into a DefaultCellEditor. I have a KeyListener attached to the JTable listening for VK_DELETE, and when it finds one, instructs the model to delete the row represented by the selected row in the table.
    Everything works fine until I want to delete a row from the table. My scenario is:
    - I click in a cell, and the editor opens.
    - I select an entry in the list. The editor closes, the result is rendered, and the wee yellow box around the cell is shown
    - I hit the delete key.
    - My key listener picks up the event, and informs the model to delete the row. I remove the row from the model and invoke fireTableDataChanged().
    The result is that the row is deleted, but the table ends up with the cell editor deployed on the cell of the row below (which is now at the same row as the one I just deleted).
    My tracing shows that the isCellEditable is called on the model after the delete. I don't know why.
    Can anyone explain how to prevent this or what might be causing the table to think that the cell needs editing?
    Thanks, Andrew

    It will do whatever is the default. I wrap the JComboBox in a DefaultCellEditor. I can't see how the editor is involved at this point, or why the editor becomes involved after the row has been deleted.
    Remember, at the time that I hit the delete key, there is no editor rendered or visible. I have the JTable displayed, a row selected, and the yellow box around one of the (editable but not currently being edited) cells. This has been achieved by editing a cell (displaying the cell editor - a combo box) and selecting an entry. The editor is removed, and the cell displayed with the (default) cell renderer for the table.
    The delete action is caught by the listener on the table, the model is instructed to delete a row from its underlying data, which fires a fireTableDataChanged event.
    That is all I do. After that it is all swing. The table model starts getting asked about cells being editable after I have finished deleting the row. I'll post the relevant code below if that helps.
    The datamodel is of class ConstraintTableModel (see below) and the column model is of class DefaultTableColumnModel
    JTable table = new JTable( dataModel, columnModel );The column model is defined liike so:
    columnModel = new DefaultTableColumnModel();
    TableColumn labelColumn = new TableColumn(ConstraintTableModel.LABEL_COLUMN);
    labelColumn.setHeaderValue( dataModel.getColumnName(ConstraintTableModel.LABEL_COLUMN));
    labelColumn.setPreferredWidth( 5 );
    labelColumn.setMaxWidth( 5 );
    labelColumn.setResizable( false );
    TableColumn taskColumn = new TableColumn(ConstraintTableModel.TASK_COLUMN);
    taskColumn.setHeaderValue( dataModel.getColumnName(ConstraintTableModel.TASK_COLUMN));
    TableColumn typeColumn = new TableColumn(ConstraintTableModel.TYPE_COLUMN);
    typeColumn.setHeaderValue( dataModel.getColumnName(ConstraintTableModel.TYPE_COLUMN));
    columnModel.addColumn( labelColumn );
    columnModel.addColumn( taskColumn );
    columnModel.addColumn( typeColumn );I add the key listener like so:
    table.addKeyListener( new KeyAdapter()
        public void keyPressed( KeyEvent e )
          if( e.getKeyCode() == KeyEvent.VK_DELETE )
            log.debug("Delete pressed in listener attached to table ");
            JTable t = (JTable) e.getSource();
            int selectedRow = t.getSelectedRow();
            if( selectedRow >= 0 )
              log.debug("  Removing row " + selectedRow);
              ((ConstraintTableModel)t.getModel()).removeRow(selectedRow);
            log.debug("Finished with key press");
      } );The cell editor is created like this:
    JComboBox taskEditorComponent = new JComboBox( tasksModel );
    taskEditorComponent.setFont( GanttChart.tableFont );
    taskEditorComponent.setBackground( Color.WHITE );
    DefaultCellEditor taskEditor = new DefaultCellEditor(taskEditorComponent);
    taskEditor.setClickCountToStart( 1 );
    table.setDefaultEditor( GanttTask.class, taskEditor );The model is coded like so:
    class ConstraintTableModel extends AbstractTableModel
        // Constants

  • Recommended system improvements after GTX470 died

    After 4 years of using my system with no major issues and only minor tweaks, I started to get several BSOD errors.  I eventually realised that my ASUS GTX 470 was dead.  This is never a good thing, however I had already been thinking that it was time to investigate some upgrades and I'd very much appreciate the thoughts and wisdom of the forum to work out which path to take.
    As well as editing HD DSLR footage I am now editing 4K footage from the Panasonic GH4.  I also work in After Effects and plan to do more in Cinema 4D.  The PC is also used for Photoshop and graphic design tasks.
    I currently have:
    MB: Asus P6X58D-E
    CPU: Intel Core i7 930 2.8GHz
    CPU FAN: Noctua NH-D14 Dual Radiator CPU Cooler
    RAM: 12GB (6 x 2GB) Corsair Dominator DDR
    Graphics: NOW DEAD BUT DID HAVE - 1.28GB Asus GTX 470 3.3GHz
    Case: Coolermaster ATCS 840

    4 Bay Silverstone USB3
    4 x 3TB WD Red
    I also have a Samsung EVO 840 250GB drive which I plan to use as the System drive, but I’ve just not gotten around to installing everything on it yet.
    My motherboard has 6 x 3Gb/s and 2 x 6Gb/s SATA ports and has an onboard RAID, using an Intel ICH10R Southbridge controller.  I have a DVD drive using one of the SATA ports.
    So the main questions are:
    Which graphics card should I get to replace the GTX470?
    What other upgrades should I be looking at to improve performance?
    Your feedback would be very much appreciated.

    that website shows other gtx 960's from evga and msi available if needed. if you want to spend more on a gtx 970 it is reasonably priced for its performance over the gtx 960, unlike the gtx 980.
    intel has been switching cpu sockets constantly lately, so its the norm when upgrading an intel cpu it will require a new motherboard. that is the situation you are in with that motherboard. so when you decide to upgrade the cpu, you will be looking at new cpu, motherboard, and possibly even new ddr4 ram.
    if you are looking for smooth editing it depends on the media codecs being used and how many fx are being applied. premiere is pretty efficient for video playback on the timeline with a good video card and fast hdds. you can add the video card and hdd raid upgrades now and see how the system works for you, then decide if and when you want to upgrade the cpu/mbd/ram.

  • JTree in JScrollPane not resizing after model change.

    I have a JTree in a JScrollPane that's put in a JPanel using the JGoodies FormLayout as it's layout manager. The column definition defines the column to grow so the JScrollPane should have enough space. The tree is empty when I create it and put it in the JScrollPane.
    After adding some nodes to the tree the JScrollPane does not resize automatically, it only resizes when a forced repaint occurs (moving or resizing the window , etc).
    I've tried calling invalidate(), repaint(),revalidate() on both the JTree and the JScrollPane. I also do a reload() on the TreeModel after adding the nodes (which is probably unnecessary as I use insertNodeInto(node,parent,position) from the DefaultTreeModel to add the new nodes).
    Anybody knows what I'm missing here?
    Thanks a lot in advance !

    Update:
    The card is running now. I had another Arch system (arch2) on the same network (to compare with), and after I shut that down and rebooted the first one (arch1) the network interfaces show up, both lo and eth0.
    However, the startup routine hangs about 2-3 minutes on the network daemon (with blinking router lights and hdd activity), so it's still not perfect. Another thing is that I can't get the right gateway from the router's dhcp. Here's an overview of the setup:
    Home: 192.168.2.x
    arch1 .2.102-------|
    |
    arch2 .2.101-------| old SMC router: .2.1
    |
    fritzbox .2.2 -----|
    router/modem
    |
    |
    ~~~~~
    internet
    The gateway is supposed to be the fritzbox with ip 192.168.2.2. The old SMC router serves addresses in the range .2.101-110. I set it up this way because I need the 8 ports on the SMC (and I like watching the lights).
    Here's my /etc/rc.conf for both systems:
    arch1 (starts slow):
    eth0="dhcp"
    ROUTES=(!gateway)
    arch2 (working):
    eth0="eth0 192.168.2.101 netmask 255.255.255.0 broadcast 192.168.2.255"
    gateway="default gw 192.168.2.2"
    ROUTES=(gateway)
    arch1 gets the SMC as gateway, arch2 gets the fritzbox.
    Ideally all computers on the network should get their IPs from the SMC dhcp, which also gives them the fritzbox as gateway. But that just doesn't work for the arch1. arch2 and the windows PCs get online just fine.
    I had also tried setting arch1 the same as arch2 except for the ip=2.102. Then the network starts faster, but the gateway is still stuck at the SMC router -> no internet.
    Rather complicated, but what are networks for? Anyone see daylight in this mess?
  • Color picker improvement after CS3?
    Dear forum:
    Am using ID3 (v5.0) for first time and like it alot.  But color picker is obnoxious.  Does this get better in CS4 or CS5?  Also- text stroke: can I align text (center, inside, outside) stroke in CS4 or CS5?  Only option in CS3 seems to be: stroke aligns on outside of font.  Thanks, Kip............
    Much thanks for replies.
    At this point, color picker still seems counter-intuitive to me.  My initial reaction was: probably after spending time learning it, I will figure out its concept, and be able to use it.  I believe there must be reasons that make sense for its features.  I've spent about 45 minutes more fiddling with it, and I still haven't got it.  At least I see now that it's not just me- looking in this forum and randomly web-searching ID color picker opinions shows me that it is one of ID's most unpopular features.  I am still going to keep trying- as I said earlier, there may be some logic to it: I just have to discover it.
    My uses are relatively simple: the eye dropper is not as important to me because I'm trying to create/modify colors- not match them (yet).  I am looking into more user friendly color picker plugins- any advice/success?
    On the text inside stroke issue.  I like fonts from movie titles and posters from 50's film noir and B movies.  They seem to be bold Furura family fonts (BTW, does anyone know if there are names for these fonts- Adobe making them?).  These are already so bold/wide that outside stroke only takes them over the edge.  In these cases, stroke seems only appropriate inside.  Also, outside stroke changes the shape of the actual font and its relationship to its neighboring letters.  I know I can use some sort of outline/path process, but was hoping that the program would do it without us going thru the extra hoops.  I may get CS4 or 5 for this reason.  For those of you that want to do inside, outside, and center stroke on text, what is your favorite method?
    Thanks, Kip...........
    We can't really give any further suggestion with limited information.
    ---  Examples of the games that i am playing are watchdogs, far cry 4, the elders scroll v (the games title is not important because the issue includes all games installed on my pc)
    ---  I am always using the latest version of graphics drivers
    ---  FPS varies from game to game for example in elder scrolls V @ max settings i am normally getting 60 fps but when the problem occurs it drops to 35- 40 fps. For far cry 4 i am getting 60 fps (with super sampling on medium) but when problem occurs it drops below 30 fps and also please note that the fps drop happens sometimes when i switch on my pc  (i just cant figure out what condition develops the fps drop)
    --- Whenever the drop happens it is fixed easily by restarting the pc
  • AEBS Radio Failure After 2.5 Years?
    Hello,
    I have an AEBS that has been in services since August of 2003 without incident, a real workhorse. Over the last couple of days, I've noticed it not being accessible yet I can still configure the unit from a wireline connection. One concern I have is that the radio (transmitter/receiver) of the Access Point has failed and was curious about a couple of things:
    1) Has anyone else had an AEBS radio falure?
    2) Has anyone installed an external omni antenna to resolve this problem?
    3) This only appears to be limited to my AEBS and not my AX
    It's clear the Access Point is functional for the most part as I can configure it and restart it without incident from an Ethernet port. However, neither my iMac G5 nor my PowerBook G4 can access the AEBS any longer so it's apparent the radio has given up.
    I'm hoping someone could shed some light on this by sharing their own experiences in similar situations as this. I'd be very interested in learning about any options you may have successfully deployed.
    Looking forward to your feedback!
    I'm closing this issue as my AEBS along with my Buffalo repeater both had (what I'll call) stalled transmitters and once they were cold booted, I was able to regain signal strength. Not sure what occurred but it was remedied by the simple reboot process.
  • Problem "filling" OBJ file after Model Clip is used
    I am developing an applet that loads body scans and makes them viewable in a 3D universe. I have my loader and basic Java 3D Components laid out correctly; however, my only problem seems to be when clipping the body scan (which is an object file OBJ) the inside of the body scan is not filled - it's almost as if the obj image is "hollowed" out. I load one image in using the build in obj loader through Java 3D and I create three instances of that obj file and have the middle one the original image, the left one a vertical clip using model clip, and the right a horizontal clip using model clip as well. The clipping works great and I am not having trouble with this aspect of the java. I am just curious if there is any way to fill in this area so that it does not appear to have a hollowed out look, but instead a filled look. Is this something that I can fix or is this a problem with the image?
    Thanks all, Kevin.
    I did it...  I figured out the problem.  Incidentally, there must have been some formatting changes in photoshop that took place since I last used it with success.
    The steps I now took.  I opened up one of my JPEG picture files, opened up one of the pics with photoshop, edited it.
    1. Clicked save as
    2. The box came open as to where to save and I saved as JPG file plus I checked the "as a copy" box clicked OK/save
    3. The next window that came up was the JPEG option box and I checked the "Preview box" and save
    4. A window came up in photoshop asking if I wanted to save (the edits on the original) I clicked no because I wanted to keep the original as is.
    5. I closed out of photoshop and there was my edited picture in "my pictures"
    I am so glad that I got this all worked out.  Thanks to all of you who tried to help me.
  • Wireless improved after safari update
    Viewing web pages in the newest safari is a lot less sluggish (read: faster). The signal stays fixed at 5 bars. I haven't seen this stable wifi network behaviour in a long time. Could it be that wireless network troubles were partly caused by safari 3?
    I found some fixes to this problem if anyone is interested:
  • Menu response improves after resetting Homeshare
    About half the time I find that connecting to my iTunes library becomes very slow. Navigating to TV Shows, then to a particular show and episode just leave the whirling wheel for several minutes. However, if I deactivate home sharing on my iMac and then reactivate it, the Apple TV responds instantly to menu selections.
    Can't say for sure, but I think this issue started with the last software update on the Apple TV (teh one that also removed descriptions from non iTunes purchased content).
    Any one else found the same thing happening, or even found a permanent fix rather than having to keep resetting home sharing in the iTunes Library?
    I generally only find menus to be a tad slow if the Computers running itunes have gone to sleep and need to wake, or if the drives holding the content have spun down to save energy.
    The AppleTV since the most recent software update takes maybe 20-30 seconds to wake itself into a usable state if I've been watching another AV input - when I change back the screensaver is often running but on pressing menu it takes ages to actually get back to a menu screen though once it's there it's ok.
  • Need to improve after sale service in Malaysia
    My 6 months old MacBook pro HDD had cracking sound hence brought to Apple service center for consultation. They suggest that the HDD need to be changed but will take more than 1 week because they dont keep repair spare and need to import from singapore. Such poor leadtime cause bad reputation to Apple and I think they should keep some spare fo repair common defect items much faster.
    I agree. However, complaining here doesn't get you anywhere. This is a user to user forum. You are under warranty so your call to AppleCare is free and explain to them. Perhaps they can speed things up.
  • Improve Image after Scan with Adobe Acrobat 9.3 ?
    Hi folks,
    I frequently scan multiple documents directly from the scanner using an ADF - so I often have piles of docs of many pages. I can adjust the scanner settings to make most of them look good but sometimes there are pages that should be improved after having created the pdf. Is there any possibility to do that ? Do I just need another software - maybe from Adobe ? I just want to adjust contrast, brightness, gamma etc. to make the doc look good.
    Cheers and sorry for that "stupid" question :-)
    Oliver
    Thanks!!! It is version 9.3.1. Should I upgrade for better?
    But WHen I tried again changing the parameters as below: trying to print a few pages
    l_oCAcroPDDocPrint.PrintPagesSilent(0, 2, 0, 0, 0) - 0 first page and 2 last page. It works fine.
    In 7.0 I used -1 in place of last page and it printed all pages of that particular PDF.
    I did not find about printing all of these pages from Acrobat 9.0 API. Can you please let me know?
