AEBS Internet Connection Randomly Dropping

I've been having problems with my AEBS with wireless-N (2nd generation) running the latest firmware, 7.6.4, ever since I restored it to factory settings a couple of days ago and set it up with the default 10.0.1.x addresses instead of the 192.168.1.x I used before.
Here is what the log says. First off, why can't the new AirPort Utility access the logs?! A feature that did NOT need to be removed. I got them using a Snow Leopard machine:

It seems to be getting a new lease from the ISP every 45-60 minutes as normal, but what are all these "public address reported as" messages showing up so frequently? And all these "connection accepted from" ones. Should I be worried about those?
Update: 10.0.1.2 is a Mac Mini Server. It just lost connection for a moment. I just checked the log:

I've had the 'network drop' issue with my Airport Extreme for the last 2 months.  It reconnects when I pull the ethernet cable and plug it back in.  I've tried downgrading the AE firmware, resetting to factory, etc.  Nothing worked.  I finally threw in the towel and created a script that monitors my network connectivity and restarts my interface if it senses it has dropped:
#!/bin/ksh
while true
do
  yup=`ping -c1 -t2 www.google.com|grep from`
  if [[ -n $yup ]]
     then echo "Internet is connected!"
  else
ifconfig en0 down; ifconfig en0 up
        echo "Down at `date +%m%d%Y%H%M%S`">>./dropped.out
  fi
  sleep 5
clear
done
I know its a workaround, but its saving me the headache of constantly pulling my cable and putting it back in!
Good luck!

  • Internet Connection Sporadically Drops Out

This problem has been ongoing for several months now.  Usually one or more times a day the internet connection will drop out, usually for a few minutes at a time.  Sometimes I get the yellow triangle in the taskbar, other times I don't.  I've gone back and forth with customer service several times.  Earlier this week they replaced my router to no avail.  They now tell me there are no connection drops or errors in the event logs and have tried to blame my computer/NIC.  I explained to them that it's not the connection between my NIC and the router that is breaking, but rather the connection between the router and the internet, or the connection between the router and the FiOS box.  Either way it's on the other side of the router.  I don't know why it doesn't show up in the event logs, but it is just about a daily occurrence.  So far the haven't even offered to sent a tech out.  I've gone back and forth like four or five times now, and I know the customer service reps are just trying to help, but so far it hasn't done any good.  The issue obviously needs to be escalated, so I figured I'd try here first.  Does anyone have any ideas on what the problem might be?  Has anyone else ever experienced this problem and been told there's no flags or errors in the event logs?  Thank you for your help.

    Hi Munich2013,
Your issue has been escalated to a Verizon agent. Before the agent can begin assisting you, they will need to collect further information from you. Please go to your profile page for the forum and look at the top of the middle column where you will find an area titled "My Support Cases". You can reach your profile page by clicking on your name beside your post, or at the top left of this page underneath the title of the board.
Under "My Support Cases" you will find a link to the private board where you and the agent may exchange information. This should be checked on a frequent basis, as the agent may be waiting for information from you before they can proceed with any actions. To ensure you know when they have responded to you, at the top of your support case there is a drop down menu for support case options. Open that and choose "subscribe". Please keep all correspondence regarding your issue in the private support portal.

  • Internet Connection Keeps Dropping

So for a couple of months now my internet connection has been randomly dropping out. It happens sometimes a couple of times a night, sometimes not at all. When the connection drops out the router seems to power off (all lights turn off, power light turns red). After a couple minutes the router seems to reboot and everything is fine. During this time FiOS TV continues to work.
I have now had 3 new routers and new ONT. None of this has solved the problem. I have tried multiple coax lines and that hasn't solved the issue. I have tried moving the router to a location with better ventilation and that hasn't solved the issue. I have tried plugging the router into a UPS and that hasn't solved the issue. I have tried plugging the ONT into a UPS and that hasn't solved the issue.
I am about ready to drop FiOS all together, a connection that randomly drops out multiple times a night just is not usable. I can't play any internet games for fear of getting disconnected, I can't watch videos without it stopping halfway through. I have a tech coming out Friday but I am not sure what they can do.
    Does anyone have some suggestions?

Yeah, I have a suggestion, read this: http://forums.verizon.com/t5/FiOS-Internet/Verizon-FIOS-Router-Actiontec-MI424WR-GEN3I-Issue-Dropped...
It's 39 pages of the same thing that's happening to you. Enjoy.

  • Ethernet Connection Randomly Dropping w/ AirPort Extreme Router

My wired ethernet connection drops sometimes randomly, but I think it tends to do it more if I'm in an audio chat with someone on iChat (not sure). Here is my setup:
FiOS ISP (always been reliable in the past) -> AirPort Extreme (router) -> Cisco gig-e switch (reliable) -> 2008 Mac Pro running Snow Leopard (no I do not use wifi) (my computer) -> Internet sharing to my brother's computer via ethernet port 2 (set up after the new router was installed, but problem happened without it)
It seemed to start doing this once I switched the router to AirPort Extreme. We were using the one Verizon gave us, a junky Actiontec router that was messing with our DNS and port forwardings but wasn't dropping my computer's connection randomly.
I have it set to use DHCP. When it drops, other things have connection, just not my computer. It drops for about 30 seconds then comes up. I've already tried rebooting the router and the switch. I suspect that something is funny with the DHCP because I rarely get the message that my computer's name has already been taken (by itself!), which has always happened even with the old router. Nothing is stealing my address. Anything else I should try?

    Try the basics first:
Change your router channel number.  Most times this works & is all you have to do.
Disconnect & reconnect your modem.  unplug it for about 10 seconds.  Plug it back in.  Do the same for Apple’s routers.  Wait for everything to reboot.
    System Preferences>Network
    Click the Assist Me button.
In the next window that pops up, click the Diagnostic button & do the necessary.

  • Losing internet connection randomly (wlan stays connected) - wicd

Since about a week now I'm running into endless problems with my wlan connection - before that, all worked well (I didn't changed any hardware)
I'm losing my internet connection in random intervals and I can't track down the reason for this problem. I've a dual-boot setup with win7 on it and there I have constant connection so this can't be any hardware problem.
I am using wicd to manage my wlan (wicd-kde, wicd-curses).
always used dhcp and never made any problems -even tried with static IP now which unfortunately didn't help.
One thing to mention - even if I'm connected, the connection seems very slow, compared to the laptop I'm on (in the same network).
    now some console output:

really don't know what to do now - help is very much appreciated!
    thanks in advance

    Thanks for you answer!
Actually, I tried it with dhclient too and it didn't helped at all.
I switched to netcfg(2) now and it seems working  - wicd is completely removed from my system - hopefully it will stay like this now.
the only problem for now is that my connection seems quite slow - any ideas where/how I can track down possible issues?
still I've no idea what was/is causing those problems since in win7 all works well..

  • Internet connection keeps dropping at night

I'm having a bit of a weird problem with my internet connection. I connect via an ethernet cable and the connection keeps dropping. It generally starts after 7pm and seems to be every 40 minutes. I have changed the microfilters and ethernet cable but I'm still getting this problem. The really weird thing is that all four lights on the hub are blue but the computer cannot connect to the router. Sometimes the connection will just drop other times it will say limited connection. I've finally had to resort to windows diagnostics and sometimes even that doesn't work. I swapped my black hub with the old white one and  I didn't have this problem of the connection dropping but my connection speed dropped to 1.5 - 2mb.
I was thinking maybe there was something wrong with my ethernet card but now I think it must be something in the black hub because the white one worked. Am I correct in thinking I need a new router?

  • Internet connection is dropping constantly - technical support useless so far

I have Verison for about 30 days and very unhappy with internet connection. speed is perfect but this connection get lost constantly. Once per hour or so. Interrupted games, video feeds, dropped calls with voip, e.t.c. And this is on wired line!
    Never had issues with cable.
Talk several times to tech support - they tested, send me new router and I am still having the  issue. I also tried my own router together with verizon, did not help much.
I read several post about it and probably spent more time that it worth  for me.
I am one of the first verizon Fios customer on my block, because the service became available very recently.
Thinking of canceling Verizon service before 30 days of contract. Othervise it would be kind of joke if verizon charge me early termination fee for bad service.
Does anybody had simular issue and how it was resolved?

This use to happen to me, i had to much bandwith traffic going on as i was putting out maximum throughput when i was hosting my home server, and a gaming server (this resulted in me repetitively getting kicked out of ps3 game rooms which i was defined as a host just because my connection was best).
Try seeing whats drawing the most bandwith, or heck remove it altogether, and then use just data, and see if it messes up, then from their you can pinpoint where the real issue is (bad modem/router, bad coax line) or if its one of your other devices (ex: Tv, phone) thats drawing data that is somehow affecting your speeds (or causing the drop outs). If this isn't the case, check your line that comes in, it maybe a direct connection but the possibility is that their is a minor break in the line (although if this were true chances are it wouldnt work AT ALL).
Perhaps theirs something interfearing with the COAX cable though, i'd check how it connects, or just for sake of argument, plugin the modem/router directly into/next to the FiOS unit just to see if that eliminates the issue altogether. Alota trouble shooting can go into this but... i'd suggest moving the router/modem and directly connecting it to the FiOS box where ever its installed. See if it still acts up, if not you have your answer, COAX issue somewhere.

  • Lost internet connection randomly and after sleep

    Hey guys,
So I bought my apple TV2 refurb a couple weeks ago, and I've had a recurring problem since. I've restored multiple times to no avail.
So I'll be streaming something, Netflix mainly, and then at random time intervals (sometimes its 5 mins, sometimes 15 or more) I'll lose internet connectivity, the stream will stop. When I go to settings->network it still says that it is connected to my router with full signal strength (but there's no connectivity if I click on the itunes store or netflix).
The same symptoms happen whenever I wake from sleep. Then if I reboot the apple TV2 (hold menu and down) and it restarts it will be connected to the internet until it loses it again.
    It is VERY frustrating.
    Any help guys?

  • Slow wi-Fi internet connections and drop outs after MBP wakes up

    Hello,
I have the new MBP 17 and recurring issues with the Aiport/Internet connections with my TC 500 Dual Band:
After the MBP wakes from sleep mode, I have recurring drop outs with regard to my internet connection. Airport connection shows me the full 4 bars and tells me I am connected, but Safari loads internet pages to no avail. I then usually deactivate my airport for 5 seconds, then reactivate it. The connection usually is better after that, but I do still have drop out issues every so often.
    Anyone experiencing the same problem?
Would resetting SMC have any effect on this?
    Thanks

I've had a similar problem at home - it's been exasperating.
It appears to be not just one thing but a collection of things causing the problems. The recent firmware update combined with driver updates in 10.5.6+ is one thing, but also there are some keychain issues, waking from sleep issues and interference issues.
When the MBP firmware was updated (10.5.6 / 10.5.7) I can't be sure exactly I noticed that my wi-fi signal was effected much more by interference. I'm using b/g as I have iPhones on the same network as my MBP at home. I ruled out router issues by testing with various other machines (Macs and PC's) - and on different wi-fi networks (my office).
The other machines didn't suffer the same problems at home and my machine did suffer the same problem at work,
I have a feeling that the driver / firmware update combined with several Airport Passwords (for the same network) appearing in your keychain conspired together to create the issue. When the Airport Signal dropped below a certain strength (by sleeping or by moving to another room) and there is a lot of interference from other wi-fi networks - your machine fails to reconnect correctly to your wi-fi network.
Often your network doesn't even show up in the available network lists. When it does - the keychain issue appears to cause a network timeout when re-connecting and therefore the connection fails and you get stuck in an annoying loop.
Moving my MBP close to the wi-fi router causes is to re-connect - which is why I believe it is related to signal strength. Also using a n only network rather than b/g helps considerably (n suffers from less interference). This however is not a fix as I have an iphone (which requires b/g) and I like to use my MBP more than 3 meters away from my wi-fi router.
Also on identical machines in my office (10.5.6 and 10.5.7) I didn't have the problem. The only real difference was those machines didn't sync with .mac and share the same keychain. Further more testing some of those machines on my home network they had no problems.
I tried loads and loads of things to fix this. In the end it wasn't one thing that did it, but a whole series of them.
1 - Delete all your Airport Passwords from your keychain.
2 - Ensure that if you are using .mac syncing you replace the .mac keychain from your current machine.
3 - Trash all your network preferences (including network interfaces and remembered networks)
    4 - Zap your PRAM
    5 - Resent your SMC
    6 - Re-connect to your wi-fi network
And that appears to have worked for me. So far anyway.

  • Wh does the internet connection keep dropping on my macbook pro and mac pro

I have a Mac pro, Macbook Pro and iphone. All have problems with the internet connection especially after any short period of in activity. My mac Pro is connected directly with an ethernet cable and the mac pro wireless. I have to go through system preferences network setup all the time to reconect. Soemtimes whn on email choosing take all accounts online does cause a reconnect but only after a minute or so wait.

Done that.. many times... also did a lot of suggestions from other posts.. removing pls files etc.. nothing works and it seems to be something experienced by other.. mysstery is it happens on all 5 computers in the office.. my isp has no suggestions... the pro can loose connection and the macbook wifi is OK and the phone usually works OK but leave my Macpro for 5 minutes and `I need to reconnct using system preferneces...

  • Airport Express Connection Randomly Dropping Out

I've got a rather bizarre situation here. I'm using an AirPort Express with a 1.33 GHz PowerPC G4 laptop running on OS X 10.4.5. I've had it for slightly more than half a year, and it's always worked perfectly. Yesterday, without any apparent provocation of any kind, it randomly started malfunctioning. AirPort would find it and connect me to it, but then the AirPort menu icon (the four bars showing the strength of the connection) would randomly start flashing on and off at a very quick speed.
I've tried all of the different reset flavors (soft reset, factory default reset, and the one in between), and all of them have been equally ineffective. After one of the two more powerful resets, the signal will stay consistent for a couple of minutes and then begin to rapidly fade in and out again. I've tried to figure out if there are any new sources of interference in my room (going as far as to move the AE from the power strip with the other appliances to its own outlet across the room), but haven't been able to think of any. I haven't installed any new hardware for a couple of months, so I don't believe it's a hardware problem; the same goes for software. AirPort itself seems to be working fine, as does my ethernet cable; I really think that there's something going on with the AE itself. The bizarre thing is that even though the connection is rapidly flickering in and out, the unit's light remains a steady green all the way through.
If anyone has any insights or further questions about this predicament, please let me know.
    Many thanks,
    Matt
    1.33 GHz PowerPC G4   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

If you connection signal strength bars start "flashing" it appears as if the AE may be going bad.
Do you have any issues connecting to other wireless networks? If not, it appears as if it's your AE.
Sorry I don't have better news for you.

  • Why my internet connection randomly gets slow ?

    Hi
Rabdomly I see a huge network slow down on my Macbook Pro. The same time if I check my line's speed by another device ( as iPhone ) it reports about 2-3 Mbps , but MacBook is slow. If I ping yahoo.com I see don't see a  long response time. During these periods which may last maximum for 1 hour, all other connections are slow ( as Mail ) except the FaceTime.
Resetting the Safari or deleting com.safari.apple make no improvement. I even tried reinstalling the OS but these periods happen againg.
    any suggestion?

  • Wireless connection randomly dropping out on Equium A210-17I

    Hi there,
This laptop comes straight from PCWorld, is running Vista and I haven't done anything to it to change the settings.
It is connecting wirelessly ok, but sometimes failing.
Also some times it will stay connected for up to 10 minutes but then the connection fails and I can't see a reason why.
Has anyone else found this problem or can anyone help?
    Thanks very much

    Hi
Such similar issues were posted a lot of times here in this forum.
I remember that it could be solved by updating the WLan driver and the BIOS.
I dont know what WLan card was built-in but all compatible WLan drivers and the right BIOS should be placed on the Toshiba European driver page.
Check your notebooks driver download area and update the mentioned software parts.
    Bye

  • Firefox has been causing drops in my internet connection lately. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE HELP!

OK, I recently wrote to the author of Session Manager about this problem, since I thought I'd narrowed it down to that, but, well, maybe not. I'll copy & paste that conversation here, rather than waste a lot of time writing up something from scratch, especially since I've already wasted an INCREDIBLE amount of time on this problem, and I'm about ready to go berserk...
Hello. I've been using Session Manager for a long time, but lately, it's been causing a problem that's been driving me out of my skull, and I think I've finally pinned it down to SM. lately, when I've tried to load sessions, even with a small number of tabs, it's caused my internet connection to drop, or, at least, to slow down to the point where pages try to load, but finally come back with a message that the connection timed out, or the page had took too long to respond. I have my Windows Vista Home Premium computer running Firefox 11 connected via Ethernet to a wifi router that is connected to a cable modem. I tried disabling pre-fetching, resetting my router to factory settings, I tried a different router, I tried removing the router and connecting directly to the cable modem, i tried a different modem, I tried disabling the Symantec extension, I tried clearing windows' DNS cache, I tried disabling Firefox's DNS cache, I tried disabling Symantec's Firefox extension (I have Norton anti-virus), and I tried disabling my anti-virus & firewall programs (hmmm, did I leave anything out?), but none of that solved the problem. I haven't noticed this behavior with any other program, and Firefox goes along swimmingly otherwise. The reason why I think I've finally pinpointed it as SM is that trying to load a certain 9-tab session caused this problem multiple times, but I eventually got it all loaded correctly, and then I tried restarting it, and Firefox's own built-in feature of loading the tabs and windows if it closed properly the last time worked just fine, and it loaded quite quickly.
So, why might this be happening, and what can I do about it? Do you think it might be a matter of the SM data being corrupted/ If so, how do I get rid of it? I found the Session Manager Export Tool extension and exported my sessions and then tried uninstalling and re-installing SM, but it hadn't gotten rid of the old SM data. Please help, as I consider SM to be a vital part of my Firefox and have come to rely on it, plus I'd like to be able to use my old saved sessions again. Please help ASAP, too, as I've already wasted an unbelievable amount of time on this and I am extremely frustrated and aggravated. Thank you.
    The response I received:
"Session Managwr cannot cause your Internet connection to drop, it simply doesn't have the ability to do that. All it can do is cause Firefox to restore tabs that have been saved. It can cause lots of web pages to load, which could slow down Firefox or possibly your Internet connection (if you have a really slow connection), but it can't drop your Internet connection. The only exception to that that I can think of is if your modem has a web page with a reboot button and you press that, then save the session such that restoring the session causes the reboot button to press, but that is extremely unlikely.
By default Firefox loads tabs one at a time anyway so it's unlikely to slow things down when loading sessions. If Firefox can restore sessions properly, the Session Manager should be able to do so as well, since Session Manager uses Firefox's restore capabilities.
I'd recommend disabling plugins in Firefox and/or other addons and see if that helps. If you can figure out what changed recently that would help narrow things down.
As for Session Manager data. It doesn't store anything other than the sessions. You can delete those if you wish."
    My reply:
Well, I have a cable internet connection, so I don't think speed is the problem there.
Are you sure about Firefox loading only one tab at a time? I know when I load a session, it seems to show several tabs loading at the same time, and I can't remember it ever not being that way.
Frankly, though, I need more specific, targeted help than being told to just start randomly disabling extensions. I've ALREADY wasted an INCREDIBLE amount of time on this and am ALREADY EXTREMELY frustrated and aggravated, and to just go blindly shooting around in the dark at random is only going to throw craploads more wasted time and aggravation onto the already huge pile. I'm at my wit's end here. I can't take much more of this. I need REAL help. I need more specific, targeted advice about what sorts of things I should be looking for, what sorts of things I should be trying, etc. I don't have any patience left to just start flailing around randomly and likely getting nowhere fast.

    Hi,
You can try to verify that '''Don't load tabs until selected''' is enabled in '''Tools''' ('''Alt''' + '''T''') > '''Options''' > '''General'''. [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Options%20window%20-%20General%20panel?as=u Options > General]
    [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Options%20window Options]
If the problem persists please also check in a [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Managing-profiles new profile]. If the new profile is okay, you can later [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Recovering%20important%20data%20from%20an%20old%20profile?s=profile&r=1&e=sph&as=s copy the needed personal data] from the old profile and start using the new profile. You can then delete or troubleshoot the old profile. Firefox stores your personal data and settings in [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder another location (profile folder)] separate from its [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Installation_directory folders/files]. A new profile would have the default Firefox settings in '''Tools''' ('''Alt''' + '''T''') > [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Options%20window Options] and [http://kb.mozillazine.org/About:config about:config], and usually would also be empty of '''Extensions''' and themes ('''Appearance''') in '''Tools''' > '''Add-ons''', and their settings. • Internet Connection Dropping

I am a FiOS internet subscriber, and for well over a year I have been having problems with my Verizon router (MI424WR), where every month or so it would stop accepting new wireless clients and my wireless devices reported reduced signal strength from the router.  The only way to fix the issue was to cycle power on the router (pull the power plug, wait a few seconds, and plug it back in).
A few months ago I started to experience a new problem, similar to that described in this thread, (I would have replied to that thread but it is locked now).  My internet connection now drops more or less once an hour but sometimes more often than that.  Unlike the previous problem, this issue affects both wired as well as wireless clients.  The conncetion resets after about 30 seconds, but any games, uploads or movies in progress are interrupted.
Can anyone tell me what might be going on?

It sounds like the router is going bad. You may need to get it replaced.
