AEBS port conflict? Intermittent problem connecting to Gracenote CDDB

Hi all,
I posted a similar question in the iTunes forum, but the more I troubleshoot, the more I think this is an AEBS issue.
Whilst importing CDs into iTunes, I've had difficulty getting the track listing. I've switched WiFi connections (borrowing my neighbour's) and this resolves the problem. Unfortunately, this means I'm not operating on my local network, which is not acceptable.
Still on my AEBS, I make repeated attempts, until finally I'm able to connect to CDDB and get the tracklisting.
What's causing this? I wonder if there's a port conflict that I need to address. Any ideas?

Hiya,
Resetting the AEBS gave me a temporary reprieve, but it's failing to connect to Gracenote CDDB again.
I tried unplugging a VoIP gateway which is connected to the same router, but no difference. Also unplugged an AirPort Express which I use for AirTunes.
Anyone else had similar difficulty with CDDB??

Please, I'm beggin' somebody for help on this. My email address is [email protected] If there is another type of software that will actually rip directly from cd to the player AND will access cddb LIKE IT's SUPPOSED TO, I'd be open to getting that software and ditching creative mediasource.     Pete: I had the same problem using an older version of RealJukebox where the program wouldn't recognize CDDB to get CD info anymore, but I found this patch, and it works now.

  • WRT54G/EZXS16W Intermittent Problem w/1 Computer Connecting to Internet

    Here is my setup:
    1 Desktop (problem child) running Windows 7 Pro 64bit
    1 Desktop running XP (Dell with basic 100Mb onboard NIC)
    1 Laptop running Windows 7 Home
    EZXS16W 16 port 10/100 Switch
    WRT54G v6 Router (latest firmware)
    All connections use static IP
    Problem has been occurring for about 2 years with "problem child" desktop.  All other machines work fine with no intermittent problems.
    Problem is that while browsing, every 30-40 minutes or so, the desktop will stop being able to reach internet websites.  Internal networking (file share to other machines, etc, still works). 
    Resolution, if I wait 10-15 minutes it will start working again on its own.  Or if I unplug the router and plug it back in, that works too.
    Things that don't work:
    1)  Clearing internet cache
    2)  Disabling/Re-enabling NIC
    Troubleshooting tried:
    1)  Upgraded router to latest firmware
    2)  Upgraded problem child desktop from XP Pro 32bit to Windows 7 Pro 64bit
    3)  Disabled on-board NIC (Marvell) and installed Intel Pro GT 1000 PCI-E card
    4)  Swapped ethernet cable with known good cable (from other desktop not exhibiting issues)
    5)  Took switch out of the equation running all wired connections direct through router
    NOTE ** Ancillary problem is that 99% of the time, I cannot get to the admin interface of the router.  I try using all 3 machines (wired/wireless) and via IE and Firefox.  I enter the correct username/password and I get a blank screen and the browser indicates the page loading is Done.  On the rare occasions I am able to get into the admin page, there seems to be no rhyme or reason as to why.

    Give the static ip address (in the range of the router) and the static DNS to the computer.
    Click on the Start button > Settings > Control Panel >Network Connections- Right click on the icon for Local area connection and go to properties- On the 'General' tab select 'Internet Protocol TCP/IP' and click on the Properties button- Select 'Use the following IP address'- Provide IP Address - 192.168.1.5, Subnet Mask - 255.255.255.0, Default Gateway - 192.168.1.1- Preferred DNS 192.168.1.1, Alternate DNS - 4.2.2.2 >Click on Ok button to Save and Click on "Close" on main Properties window. Now check the connection.

    To me, that suggests it's trying to connect to host "6600" on port 6600.

  • WAN port inop and PM ethernet port inop - options to connect to AEBS?

    Hi. We had a thunderestorm last week at home and we shut everything down and unplugged the power cords, but I think the cable to the cable modem fried some of my ports. I have a cable modem hooked to the WAN AEBS port and a cable from the LAN AEBS port to the ethernet port of my PM G4 867 (Quicksilver). After lots of troubleshooting with a different cable modem and my PB 15, it seems that the AEBS WAN port is dead and the ethernet port of the cable modem AND PM G4 are toast!!:( I guess all three got fried thru the cable.
    I have a different cable modem that runs my digital phone so I connect thru it's ethernet port (after provisioning it). It works with my PBs directly and my airport express. I went to the Apple store and they confirmed the WAN was inop. Got a new AEBS. Now, here's my question:
    I connect my PBs thru airport, but used the LAN to directly connect to the PM G4. The ethernet port is dead too. What should I do to get the PM connected?
    I think the PM G4 quicksilver can accept an airport card (older kind). I can get one for around $100.
    Is it easy to replace the ethernet card/port on this model? How much?
    What's the best solution? What would you do? Thanks for your help.

    Yes the QuickSilver has an internal slot for the original 802.11b AirPort card. That slot is NOT compatible with the AirPort Extreme card.
    Is it easy to replace the ethernet card/port on this model? How much?
    There is no separate Ethernet card. The Ethernet port is built into the motherboard.
    If you want Ethernet, the least expensive solution is a compatible PCI Ethernet card.

    I have a big problem, when i connect my n79 using bluesoleil v3.0, i got File transfer, dialup networking and object push services only.
    If i try to start serial port service to connect my n79 to a serial port it displayes error "can not start service".
    i have tried various bluesoleil versions but the problem remains same everytime. on the other hand i can connect my sony k750i to a serial port without any problem.
    can someone tell me how to connect n79 to a serial port using bluesoleil
    OR
    Does N79 not support bluetooth serial port connectivity?
    or is there any other way to connect n79 to a serial port using blesoleil and my bluetooth dongle on a WINXP SP2 system?

    Yes, PCSuite supports a great deal of Bluetooth drivers. These are all built in so, give it a try.

    I ended up getting a new phone, straight through Apple.  I called their technical support and went through all he basics again and they decided to replace it.  Was a pretty quick process - after defaulting and resetting the whole phone (about 2 hours),  I called them back to inform that there was no change, so they set up the order.
    I had to give my CC# so they could hold a charge on it (in case I didn't send my old phone bach, which they sent me a pre-posted package to send it in anyway).  Had a brand new iPhone 4S in my hands in 4 days, which was pretty decent.  I had uploaded everything previously to iCloud, so setting up the new phone was a snap.
    Only thing I really didn't like was they charged me almost 30 bucks for shipping or processing, or something.  Not so sure that should have been my responsibility after spending so much on a brand new product, only to have to have it warrantied after, like, a month.

    Gracenote connection problem and have tried several solutions for the forum
    I have the Zen Touch and software version 2.20.09
    I cannot get Cd information from gracenotes CDDB
    When I Get Info the Gracenote icon comed up the the error
    Failed to connect to the Music Information Provider. This problem may be due to one of the folloing reasons:
    - Your computer is not connected to Internet. [My computer is connected]
    - The Music Information Provider's server is down.
    - The audio CD is a Copy Control CD. [I have tried CDs that I know are not copy controlled]
    I have uninstalled and reinstalled the software
    deleted the registration file
    ran the commands to unregister
    deleted all 3rd party music applications
    download WINAMP which works gracenote fine
    downloaded the gracenote fix
    Can anyone help with another solution?

    Check your Internet Explorer's connection setting. Do you need to set any proxy address in the connection setting of your Internet Explorer?
    FYI, you may try the following if you have not tried them:

    Try delete the file "cddb.db" or/and "cddb.ds" (if they exist) under the directory "C:\Documents and Settings\YourName\Application Data\Creative\NetContent\MediaSource". See whether it hel

    - Go to Start->All Programs->Accessories->Command Prompt.
    - Run the following commands in the command line to unregister the files:

    CTRegsvr /u CTCDDB.nco

  • Trouble connecting to Gracenote

    Hi all,
    I did a search before posting this message, but didn't find anything relevant.
    My MBP is running Leopard and I've started to notice a problem with iTunes & Gracenote. Sometimes iTunes spends a minute or two trying to connect to Gracenote. It then (presumably) times out and says the track listing isn't available... do I want to import without track names? Of course not.
    So I eject and re-insert the CD to try again. Sometimes it works on the second attempt, other times it doesn't.
    When it doesn't, I've found an interesting trick (though it's a hassle). I disconnect from my AEBS and switch to a neighbour's Dlink router which is wide open. iTunes seems to have no trouble at all connecting to Gracenote this way.
    Is there a port setting for Gracenote which I should check on the AEBS?

    I am having similar problem. Previously it worked fine, but recently when I tried to update the track names, it took a while and then a message "HTTP processing error" shown. I have tried a number of times and days, but I simply could not get the update track names anymore. Anyone know what the problem is? I am using a Linksys wireless router for internet connection. Is it because of the firewall? though I have checked and it does not seem to be the cause, because there was no such problem previously.

    Hello there Jake,
    It sounds like your phone is acting like you are connecting and disconnecing it over and over again even with another USB cable. I would use the troubleshooting in the following article to help you determine what the issue might be.
    iTunes: Resolve USB-related alerts
    See if the cable connection at the device or computer has come loose or unplugged.
    Unplug the cable you're using to connect your iOS device from the USB port on your computer, and then reconnect it. Then unplug it from your iOS device, and reconnect it.
    Remove any third-party battery packs or cases from the device and ensure that the USB cable is connected directly to the port on the device.
    If your Lightning or 30-pin cable is connected to a keyboard, display or USB hub, try plugging it directly into a USB port on the computer instead. 
    Close any virtualization apps (such as Parallels or VMWare).
    These apps may interfere with your computer's ability to communicate over USB if they aren't properly configured, or up to date. If this resolves the issue, contact the developer of the app to see if an update is available.
    Restart your computer.
    Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.
    If your iOS device displays the Connect to iTunes screen, reset your device and then restore it.
    If you're using an accessory or third-party cable to connect your device, try using an Apple cable with the device instead.
    Update to the latest version of iTunes if you haven't already.
    Disconnect other USB devices from your computer, except for your keyboard and mouse. Then, reconnect your iOS device. If the issue is resolved, reconnect the other USB devices one at a time. Make sure your iOS device is still recognized by the computer after adding back each device. 
    If one of these steps resolves the issue, but it comes back later, make sure you haven't changed how the device is connected. For example, check to see if you plugged the device into a specific accessory, or used a specific cable that reintroduced the issue.

  • BroadXent DSL Router to older AEBS - can't get multiple connections

    Router is "auto detection" half or full bridge mode, direct ethernet cable to older "mushroom" AEBS. For some reason, can only get one wireless connection at a time. Have to shut down connected machine before can get connection to another. Not unusual that I have to cycle power on modem and AEBS to get new connection. This is a recent problem. I had a LinkSys BRFSR81 router (which died today) between the modem and AEBS and had no problem w/multiple wireless machines at the same time. Likewise, tried to temporarily use a Netgear 4 port switch in place of the linksys router, and can only get one hardwired internet connection at a time. (Modem=> LinkSys 8 port, 5 ports ethernet to various macines, one port to AEBS to 4-5 laptops - worked out well, everyone got connectivity) What am I missing? Help please!! - family is all over me about no connectivity!

  • Problems connecting to CDDB

    This seems to crop up quite a lot but I haven’t found anything that helps me. Connection to the CDDB has never worked, but I didn’t bother before because I was importing with other software.
    I am using V6.0.5
    The store and radio stations work fine, but I can’t connect to the CDDB.
    I am accessing the internet via a router, but that doesn’t seem to be the problem.
    I have NIS 2005 and turning off the whole thing allows me to connect, but not any individual component – i.e. turning off just the firewall doesn’t work. I have been through each individual component turning off each in turn and none alone works.
    I have entries in the firewall to allow unrestricted access for iTunes, iTuneshelper and Quicktime player.
    The other thing is that I am using a proxy server but if I do not use the proxy server I can also connect to CDDB. But I want to go on using the proxy server so that isn’t the solution.
    In IE7 connection settings, I have “automatically detect settings” checked. Also “Use same proxy server for all protocols”
    Since turning off the proxy server works, if I knew the IP address of the CDDB I could put it in the bypass proxy server box, which I have had to do for several sites.
    I tried bypassing proxy server for http://www.gracenote.com but that didn’t work.
    The Apple help on connection problems suggests that seeing the network supervisor about settings is the thing to do if unchecking proxy server works. Hmm that's me and I don't know how the settings should be changed.

    After about a month of exchanging emails with Symantec technical support, I finally go a resolution to connecting to the CDDB through a proxy server while using Norton Internet Security 2005.
    The answer appears to be to as follows:
    - Open Norton Internet Security (NIS) 2005.
    - Click on Norton Internet Security Tab.
    - Click on Options and select Norton Internet Security.
    - Click on Firewall tab and then click on 80 in HTTP Port list.
    - Click on Remove button.
    - Then click on 80 in HTTP Port list.
    - Click on Remove button.
    - Click OK.
    At the moment I am not sure if there are any security implications in doing this as presumably the firewall will not monitor these ports. I have stuck with the workaround in the previous post.

    Just installed a new cable modem from Comcast, it is their new high speed unit manufactured by Cisco. of the three IOS devices I've tried, all running currently the OS , are having problems connecting with  the error "Unable to join the network " Home-XXXX" if you keep asking it may connect but I have to be persistant.  My Devices are iPad 4 g Retna with 30pin connection, an iTouch ,latest model with camers, and current iPad mini. is it me or the modem?

    You have probably already solved this issue, but I would hide the comcast wifi network (dont broadcast ssid) and make the password very hard. Make sure that put it on channel that does not conflict with your Airport Extream.
    Connect the Comcast modem/router to the airport extream's wan port with an ethernet cable.
    Comcast usually ships the DHCP enabled. Use the comcast DHCP server for your airport.
    Configure the airport extream to "create a network" set the network to "bridge mode".
    Name your network, broadcast the ssid all on the airport. Now all your devices will connect everytime. Use can use the Comcast "private" wireless network for maintenance, etc.

  • Intermittent problem with PC Suite - no text is di...

    I have an intermittent problem with PC Suite - every so often it will stop displaying any text.
    For eaxmple, right-click on the task bar icon gives a list of icons for backup, messages, sync etc., but the text is missing.  Also, the 'tool-tips' in the application itself are empty grey boxes.
    Restarting PC Suite solves the problem for a while, but it always comes back.
    The main problem is that when it gets in this state, incoming call alerts don't show the name/number.
    Has anyone else had this and managed to sort it.
    I'm running PC Suite 7.1.40.6 on a Lenovo ThinkPad T61p running Windows XP SP3.  The phone is a 6230i connected via Bluetooth.

    Also looked for the connection in windows device manager>>nothing appeared except the computers ports...

    I've tried your 1st & 2nd suggestions....but I can't find the "connectivity solution" folder you mention (and being a complete noob (!) I don't know what a .bat file is (nor how to use it lol)
    In fact I can't find PC Suite anywhere in the program files. I REALLY think that it wasn't installed OK....it should not have taken less than one second to download if it took 1 3/4 hrs initially
