AEBS Wired network fine, but wireless internet connectivity intermittent

I'm really frustrated by this one, because a large number of people are describing a very similar problem, but are using different terms, so most of the forum and discussion replies are based around resetting the AEBS or modem. Resetting my AEBS and modem DOES fix this problem for up to a couple of hours. Resetting my AEBS 15x per day is not a solution.
My AEBS has been serving me perfectly for over a year. I have been using two iMacs, an iBook G4, iPod Touch, iPhone, AX (802.11b/g), Wii and PSP on the network. One of the iMacs is connected by ethernet, everything else is wireless.
I am not using every item on this list at all times; in fact, I'm generally using 1-2 of them at any given time.
For the past 4-5 days, my wireless devices stop accessing the internet sporadically. They remain connected to the AEBS with a legit IP Address, but just sit there waiting to load whatever I'm trying to access. My AEBS has a legit IP Address from my ISP, and my iMac that's connected by ethernet is not experiencing the connectivity problems. My Wii is connected to Netflix, I can sometimes watch up to an hour of a movie and the load time is fantastic, but then it will stop and buffer for 15 minutes. During that time, my other wireless devices stop responding.
None of my devices are getting 'error' messages, they just sit there and wait. I get the 'loading' icon on my iPod Touch, and "connecting" in Safari on the iBook.
AEBS mode: Create wireless network, WPA/WPA2 Personal
5GHz network: different network name altogether for Wii (video streaming) and AX (music streaming). Problem persists on both bands of the network.
Access Control is currently off, problem persists when set to Timed and each device listed.
Please understand... I'm not trying to be rude, but my problem is not that the devices won't connect to the network, and it is not that they won't connect to the internet... it is that the internet connection is intermittent while the devices remain connected to the network with good signal and legit connection information. It is not my internet connection, because the problem does not exist on wired connections to the AEBS.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Update:
After much testing and frustration, I have found out the following:
Two computers on default (2.4 GHz) network after factory reset tested extremely slow internet speed.
Intel iMac on 5 GHz network after factory reset (and dual-band enabled) tested normal speed (fast).
Same two computers on ethernet after factory reset tested normal speed (fast).
Same two computers on guest network after factory reset (and guest network enabled) tested extremely slow.
So... what I have here is reason to believe that there is either some kind of interference/interception on 802.11g network, in the 2.4 GHz band, or a bad component in the AEBS.
More troubleshooting, back in a bit.

  • Airport Express signal fine but no internet connection

We have been using an Airport Express for wireless Internet access and recently are unable to connect to the Internet. We use a Comcast cable modem, through a Linksys router, to the Airport Express. We can connect by network cable to the router and access the Internet, but are unable to connect wirelessly. We are getting a signal from the Airport Express (the light is green), but no Internet connectivity. We have restarted and done a hard reset (holding the reset button while plugging the Airport Express in) of the Airport Express, but it did not seem to help. The hard reset did not result in resetting the settings, so perhaps there is another way to reset it or perhaps there is another problem.
    Has anyone had similar problems?

I tried power cycling the cable modem, downloading new firmware (why didn't Software Update tell me about this?), deleting the DNS servers, hard reset of AirPort Express, factory reset of AirPort Express, fiddling with AirPort Admin Utility, fiddling with AirPort Setup, all of the above in different order and different combinations, and it still would not work.
Power cycling the cable modem was one of the first things I did, and that resulted in getting Internet connection through the cable modem onto the ethernet cable; just no Internet through AirPort. Finally, after a factory reset of the AirPort Express did not help, I decided to power cycle the cable modem again, even though I had already just confirmed again that I was getting the Internet through the ethernet cable. Once the cable modem finished the power cycle, it finally worked! I was back on the Internet via AirPort!
I'm not exactly sure which solution fixed it for me, but I suspect that it didn't work at first because I did not power cycle the cable modem afterwards. In other words, if after changing AirPort settings you still are not connected to the Internet, try power cycling the cable modem. Do this every time for each change you make to the AirPort settings.
The other thing I learned is that unplugging the cable modem from the wall power outlet or turning off the power strip will NOT power cycle the cable modem properly. Instead, you must remove the power cord from the cable modem. I tried all three of these methods and for whatever reason, the only time it worked was by removing the power cord.

  • Macbook Air connects to network fine but will not connect to internet?

I am staying with someone away from home and cannot use my Macbook Air (OSX 10.9.4) with the internet.   They have a Comcast network and all other devices including my iPhone, connect with no problems.   I have connected to the network and it works initially (loading a web page or retrieving email) but almost immediately the internet stops working and pages freeze trying to load.   The wifi shows no problems but internet connection is not working for both email and safari
I have cleared the network info and set up again, reset the router, restarted my computer and other trouble shooting.   I have been able to connect to the same network by tethering my phone as well but cannot use the network directly.
Everything indicates that there the network connection is fine but but no internet, please help!

Connect to the problem network. Double-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, then copy it to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    www.google.com
    Launch the Network Utility application.
    Step 1
Select the Lookup tab and paste into the address field by pressing command-V. Then press return. Post the output that appears below – the text, please, not a screenshot.
    Step 2
Select the Ping tab and do the same. Please enter the same input as you did in Step 1. Don't use the output of Step 1 as input to Step 2.
    Important Note
Some web browsers and mail clients will automatically convert a domain name such as "www.example.com" to a clickable URL, such as http://www.example.com. That will interfere with the test. If necessary, edit the input in the Network Utility window to remove any added characters.

  • Lost shared network visibility but not internet connection

4 days ago I brought my i-mac osx 10.6.8 to the office, plugged in the network cable and was immediately connected to the shared network. This morning the network showed up but was not accessible. It showed an error when I tried to access a network folder. I restarted the computer and the shared network disappeared but I am still connected to the internet. Noone else is having problems. Any ideas?

If it's not you, have you checked with the folks that are maintaining the local network?
What was the error that was reported when trying to access a network folder?
If you're connecting to a server of some sort, your client may have to be added and reconfigured to allow access to the server(s) and the local security, or potentially to the network itself.  (If this is a moderate- or larger-sized office, virtual LANs and the managed switches are fairly common, and can cause your system to be treated as a guest system, for instance.)

  • Internet is not working on cellular data after updating 8.0.2 in iphone 5s , wifi connectivity is fine , but no internet connection error message is start blinking even after cellular data is on , please help .

I am using iPhone 5s , internet is not working on cellular data even after it is on , wifi is working properly . Please help apple team.

    Hello Mario:
I'm actually surprised that Apple continues to push out 8.02 without addressing these issues. The problem will only anger more users and certainly finger-poking at Airplane Mode isn't the answer. This is an iOS8 code problem and no amount of 'resetting' is providing a reliable fix/solution that sticks.
These issues with loss of cell connectivity, apps that have lost functionality, etc., which are all directly associated to the arrival of iOS8, are so widespread in the user community and pervasive within individual iPads that it's clear there are significant fundamental problems with this release. Given the problems are so blatant, it's fair to ask the question of how they got by the Apple validation team.
What is the status at Apple on rolling out a fully V&V'd version to resolve this?  Respectfully, when it comes to some of my more useful apps, my personal iPad has become a paperweight. The user forums are full of these iOS8 complaints for several weeks and there doesn't seem to be a competent answer from Apple.  Even a "We're aware and we're working on it" would be well received.
Any hope that you can provide will be appreciated. (I'll be monitoring the thread on my Dell laptop because, well, my iPad is i-Inop!).
    Thanks!

  • Connected to network, but no internet connection

Just returned from a one week trip to CA with my macBook. Prior to the trip everything regarding a connection to the internet worked fine... I have an Airport Extreme network set up at home. For the first five days of my trip, everything worked fine as well. Connected to several different open networks (offered by hotels and Bed & Breakfasts (B&Bs). Then suddenly I could not get an internet connection with any browser (Safari, Firefox, Flock). At one particular B&B it worked flawlessly one evening, then the next morning at the same B&B, no internet. Yet I was connected OK to the open network. Moved on to another city, a different hotel and network, same problem. I was connected to the network, but no internet connection. In Safari, the blue bar would get as far as the http:, then it would hang there. Now having returned home to my Airport Extreme network, everything seems to be working fine again in all browsers. Any idea what I may have encountered for those two days? I have another trip planned in the near future, and would hate to have this happen again.

I'm sorry but I'm not posting to answer your problem but just to say that I have a very similar issue when connected to my home network through either wireless or ethernet- connection is erratic and pages hang despite showing an excellent signal strength. I have a divided drive and have windows installed on my Macbook. I have no problems on the windows side. My friends who have ipods and iphones have similar problems connecting to my home network. I have no problems connecting wirelessly to any other network that I've tried. This is a real shame as I want to use Mac software but end up in Windows all the time. Any light anyone can shed on this would be very welcome.

  • ITunes 8.1 works great but killed wireless internet connection

I installed version 8.1 on both my laptop( PowerBook g4/ OS 10.4.11) and desktop (imac intel / OS 10.5) and after restarting the computer, the wireless internet connection stopped working on both.
I would open Safari and it would be a blank page and and the circle would keep spinning.
So I tried my laptop at a different wireless hotspot and had the same result.
I then tried repairing permissions and I got a list of problems with iTunes/Network Utilities, they repaired and now when I open Safari I get the message that it can not connect to the internet.
I do get an internet connection using ethernet on both.
Any ideas on how to fix this problem?

Did you by any chance also update the firmware on your Apple Airport Extreme (if that's what you have)?
I thought 8.1 killed my connection to my Apple TV, but it was the faulty firmware (see reports elsewhere in these forums).
Now that I have rolled back from 7.4.1 on my Airport I plan to try iTunes again (with white knuckles).

  • Re: Network connection, but no internet connection

I have a MacBook Pro, 10.6.8. I am set up ith Airport Extreme, and everything has worked great. All of a sudden I have no internet. I open up Airport Utilities and there is no Airport to be seen. I gave the Airport a Hard Reboot ( 5 seconds on the button untill it blinks yellow) and it now shows up in the Airort Utility, though still orange. The Airport Utility can not find the Airport Extreme... though you can see it now.
At work I can access the Network fine, but I still can not access the internet.
I've re-installed Safari, but that is pointless as I can no access internet via Email, or any other web applications. It's for sure an issue where my computer can not access internet, regardless if I'm at home or at work. Why??
Network Diagnostics can not fix the problem, and I've even rebooted using AppleJack and no go. I hope I do not have to re-install the OS and everything?!
    Any thoughts?

UPDATE: Connection to Network, but not Internet Fixed!
    I have tried everything!
Reboot Airport Extreme, Hard reboot of Airport Extreme, reboot modem...
Reset Safari, re-install Safari, I deleted all Networks, and I changed the order of Nework items in the System Preferences>Network order so that Airport was at the top of the list...
I figured out I had ZERO Internet, e-mail, nothing, but WI-FI worked fine, connected to servers fine, iPhone connects to Internet fine, why will my MacBook Pro not connect to the Ineternet?!?!
Network Diagnostics was no help at all.
I deleted the System Configuration under the HD>Library>Preferences>System Configuration, and that did not help.
I retarted the computer holding down the Option and Command Key, and long with two other keys (I forget which two ) and that did nothing, so your not missing out on anything not knowing which two
Using another computer I downloaded "AppleJack", restarted using that program and it deleted the Cache, and basically wipes everything clean, and that did not work.
What did work? Insert the Snow Leopard Install CD, (No I have not gone to Lion yet, too sketchy yet) and holding down the Command and 'C' key I restarted the computer from the Snow Leopard Install CD, and simply re-installed the system. I had backed everything up first of course, but it was not nessesary as nothing seemed to have changed.
BUT THIS TIME SAFARI WORKED!!!! I was really starting to think I had a damaged Airport Card, or a hardware issue, but the system re-install worked great!!!
I sure hope this helps other people out with the same issue. Very Frustrating!!!!
    Peace!

I want to listen to my music through my airport express but I also have a wireless internet connection!
I think I might have been sold a jelly - I want to listen to my music wirelessly which is why I bought the Airport Express, but I also have a wireless internet connection - can I do both?

Do you mean to say you already have a wireless network setup and thought by buying the Airport Express you just could use it for wireless music alone?
The Airport Express is chiefly a wireless router first, with the wireless music and printing as extra's.
It can be used for streaming music alone, but I think it needs to talk to network time servers and thus it gets screwed up over time not being on the internet. Also by your using your computers wifi for music streaming, no internet with your other router.
So it's a all Airport Express or back to a stereo mini cable.

  • Airport network connected on full bars but "no internet connection" and missing lock icon!

    this is really frustrating!
I'm using wireless in my house. when i click on my network it connects and it shows perfect connection which is full bars.
on Network Preferences it says that i'm connected to the Airport but when i go to Safari it shows "You are not connected to the Internet" so i click on Network Diagnostic where the 3 network status on top has the green indicator but the ISP, Internet and Server show red and failed.
I don't think there's anything wrong with my internet connection since I'm able to go online using my sister's computer and also on my iPhone.
There's also usually a Lock icon/symbol next to my network's name but when i'm connected to my network the Lock icon seems to be missing but it still shows full bars connection. I really don't get how it's possible to be connected to a network, but no internet connection, while i can access the internet on other devices.
Please help me out here. I've tried ways like going to library>preferences then put the system configuration into Trash, and going to Network Preferences and removing the Airport service and creating a new one.
and one more thing. all mentioned above are when i clicked on Advanced on network preferences then i clicked on TCP/IP and changed the Configure IPv4 from Using DHCP to Manually. When i'm back to using DHCP there's an exclamation point over the airport icon on the top bar and it says no internet connection.

Got my own question answered by a colleague.
He had me create another "Location" in the network pane of System Preferences, then choose it and click Apply. I created a new location which I called 'Airport', chose it and clicked Apply and sure enough, an IP address showed up and all is well.
Justin said it's a network bug in Leopard.

The only people who can possibly assist you with this is Apple Customer Relations, call your local Apple contact number and ask for Customer Relations then explain your situation clearly and politely (be firm but don't rant).
You might want to investiage what the local laws are regarding defective goods and 'fit for use' definitions on warranties etc. Consumer Protection can be a useful tool to use or bargain with if needed ...

What do you mean it did not work!  What were the results of the diagnostic tests?
Have you contacted your ISP to determine if the problem is on their end?
Have you changed your router channel?  Sometimes this resolves wireless problems.

  • IMAC Wireless Internet Connection Problems All Of A Sudden

My Imac is well over a year and a bit old and has been able to connect to my wireless internet connection absolutely fine until the past week and a half. At first the connection wouldn't work and when I would turn my airport on and off and reset the router, it would eventually work, now that is not working at all. My airport status is either showing 'airport is turned on but is not connected to a network' or 'airport has a self-assigned ip address and may not be able to connect to the internet'
I have formatted my imac twice and still no avail and the last format I tried to join wirelessly straight from boot but it wouldn't join saying 'there is a problem with the wireless connection and you're not connected to the internet.' the annoying thing is I can see the network sitting there and can't join it, my network is also unsecure so no need to input a password. All my home PC's and my Iphone and Blackberry find the network easily enough, although recently the Iphone has began showing only 1 bar of wifi connection.
I am at my wits end as I am unable to connect at all now, I am all out of ideas and have been bashing my head off a wall for the past day without any connection at all.
My router is a buffalo AirStation wireless G high power model, my IMAC is an intel core 2 duo 20", if you need anymore information of my hardware I will gladly provide it. I'm running MAC OSX Leopard 10.5, out the box as I've been unable to run any software updates as I can't connect to the internet.
Please, if anyone can shed any light at all on this issue I would definately try anything.
    Thanks in advance and regards.

Anytime you see a self-assigned IP address in your network prefs you know it surely is a problem
with your router configuration. Power down all equip ... make sure modem is off for at least 5 minutes
restart modem, restart iMac ... check your network pref on iMac and make sure it's not 169.x.x.x
If so you will need to recapture the settings from your ISP's modem to the Buffalo.
Always use a secure wireless connection (WEP, WPA, WPA2) or else the whole neighborhood will suck down your bandwidth the slow down what your paying for. I use Time Capsules or AEBS (Airport Extreme Base Stations) that allow you to stealth mode and lower signal output and make the device
as a "closed network" ... meaning no one else can see and tap into your WIFI home network!
802.11N is better than G. and especially when you can use dual bands 2.4 / 5GHz to stop various home interferences. The backup of Time Machine only makes life much easier also! Xtech
