AEBS won't talk to tower

I have a Mirror Door G4DP that was connected through an Airport Extreme Base Station to a cable modem via EtherNet. It worked fine and I could use my laptop wirelessly with the AEBS.
I recently moved and no longer use the cable modem. The tower no longer recognizes the AEBS but my laptop can see the BS wirelessly. I'm using an EtherNet cable to connect the <-> ports on the BS and the tower. I've tried a couple of other cables and the other port on the AEBS.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Donna - I better understand the question - but do not really know the answer. If required, I am confident that there are aftermarket PCI internet cards for your tower. Perhaps Duane or Henry or ...... can chime in with their expertise. On the surface - which is what you are thinking - one could hook the AE base station up to your tower via the LAN port and get connected. Does an AE base station have the requisite functionality of a AE card?
FWIW - I run 8 Macs on our home / business network using a main base station and remotes (WDS) and Gigabit digital switches and high level encryption with towers and notebooks and....... Truth be known, like many of us, I designed it and keep it zooming along with help from these boards and a lot of trial and error. There are many technical basics that I simply do not understand - let's hope one of the pros responds now - I'll learn something as well.

I now have a useless $700 phone.  Updated iTunes to latest version (and can't get it to revert back to an earlier version), updated iPhone (iPhone5) to iOS 7 and now it won't talk to iTunes, nor will it connect to my WiFi.  What should I try now?

If it won't talk at all to iTunes, you can hold down the power and home button for 10 seconds, it will power off, this is ok, then let go of the power button while holding the home button until iTunes sees it as a device in recovery mode.  You can try to reinstall iOS7 and then restore.

Tried a number of "fixes" from blogs.  No joy.  Deleted all my adobe apps, rebooted, and Creative Cloud says it needs to reload.  Went through that process, and it quit near the end, saying it needed to reload and directed me back to same Adobe site.  Hmm.  Round and round we go.  How do I get off of this loop and get my Adobe Lightroom and PS working fine again?  Whole episode started after loading CC and then PS said it didn't have Camera Raw.  Went and downloaded that, wouldn't load and said I needed Adobe Download Diagnostic (or something like that) went to suggested link, whereupon it tells me it is no loger available.
Looking forward to cleaning everything off and starting over!!  Any input gratefully accepted and I will NOT be trying CC again.  I am sure it is just fine, just not for me, now.

  • Envy 4500 e All-in-One - Still connects to network but won't talk to computers

I turned on my Envy 4500 the other day to print a paper for school, but it wouldn't print. It's connected to the same network as my computer, and I changed nothing, but now it simply won't cooperate. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the software, disabling my firewalls, restarting, running the Print and Scan doctor, resetting the printer to factory and reconfiguring the wireless settings, and nothing is helping. The Wi-Fi settings show that the connection is fine, but when I go to print wirelessly it shows the printer as offline. The issue is impacting all of the devices in my home that use the printer, including our Android phones, my Windows 7 desktop, and my wife's Windows 8.1 laptop.
I feel like I've done everything right, and it was working fine before, but for the life of me, my computer and my printer just won't talk to each other over the wi-fi. It works fine USB, but that's obviously not an ideal solution. Does anybody have any advice on this one?

I see you're having connectivity issues. I would like to help!
I would recommend setting up a static IP on the printer:

  • E2000: Some IPs simply won't "talk"

I don't understand what is going on and it's getting me extremely frustrated. I have certain machines/IP addresses that simply won't "talk" on the network. The machine itself can talk to the internet through the router but no other computer on the local network can talk to it. This is my setup: E2000 Wireless Router IP Range: 192.168.10.x (Because my work network is 192.168.1.x and It needs to be different for the VPN to work. I have DHCP reservations setup for two devices and these devices seem to be the ones that have the problem although in the past I have seen this problem with devices that are NOT setup with reservations and I put it on a reservation in order to MAKE it talk. One is a printer right now that is not setup on a reservation yet it is inaccessible. So, what happens? If I do a local network scan, the computer or device, doesn't show up. If I try to ping it, nothing. I can't remote control it, nothing it is as if the system doesn't exist on the network. There is no firewall turned on on the device, it is able to surf the Internet. On one machine, have port forwarding setup to it on the router (thus the reservation) and it forwards to it just fine. but if I'm on the local network no go. Also, I found that if I go back to a 192.168.1.x network. There is no problem talking to any of these devices. It is only when I set it to another one. Yes, I have rebooted the machines, I have double-checked their IP addresses. In some cases if I choose another IP in the DHCP range, the computer will suddenly start talking. If I move it back to the original IP address is had, it stops talking. It's as if my router is black-listing specific IPs. I am getting more and more frustrated by this device. I am considering getting something else.

Don't use DHCP reservation.  You want static IP's on those device, especially printers.  Make the DHCP range of the router 192.168.1.50 through 192.168.1.254.  This leaves 192.168.1.2 through 192.168.1.49 for static IP's.  Set your static devices to 192.168.1.10 and 20.  Now try.

  • Macbook talks to tower, tower won't talk back

    I have two macs:
    1.) Macbook pro
    2.) 8 core tower
    *related info:*
both are equipped with the latest version of Leopard.
both are on the same network.
The Laptop is connected using airport.
The tower is connected to the same router as the laptop, with a cat5 cable connection.
    *The Problem:*
When using the tower, I cannot connect to my laptop via the network connection. But when I'm using the laptop, and I open finder, I can see an icon representing my main computer on the left. I can click that, which leads to pretty much any place I want to go on the tower.
However, I cannot do the same from my main tower to my laptop. I look on the finder window, but there is no icon representing the laptop there.
How can I make my tower talk to my laptop in the same way that my laptop talks to my tower?
Is this "AppleTalk?" If so, I have it enabled.
I remember setting them up to talk to each other when I first got them, but it's been a while and I'm not having any luck this time around. It used to work both ways.
    Thanks for your help.

  • ACI, 2 BD´s and 2 EPGs in L2 mode won´t talk even with contract supplied

    Hi experts
I tried to make a L2 connection between 2 EPG in different BD, both BD are in L2 mode and in the same Private network, I saw in the sniffer that the traffic was send between the EPG ( hosts)  but the "ping" between the hosts did not got answered. we had a contract between the EPG´s that was allow any in both directions.
the connection works between the 2 host  with the  2 EPG´s  in the same BD with the same any contract.
    is it intended that 2 BDS won´t let 2 EPG´s talk in L2 mode ( Floodmode ) ?.
And I read that the L2 external is not a separate BD but 2 EPG´s  in a " L2 construct"  with a contract between and the AEP stuff to get physical to work
    /Ola

Just to understand, you created two BDs in flood and L2 mode and two EPGs. The two hosts are using the same subnet/address space to talk to each other and you have a contract in between the two EPGs yet the communication is not working.
When you put the two EPGs in the same BD it works? correct?
Its a very interesting question, but there is something you must remember about ACI. The BD is the flood/forwarding boundary. Since you are using two different flood domains and no routing (unicast off and no subnet/SVI on the BD), ARPs and general data flood/packets will not traverse the flood domains, even with a contract.
What other questions do you have? Thanks for using Support Forums, hope that helps!

I am suffering from a similar issue, where my Mac Book Pro will connect to the network and have an internet connection. My PC on the other hand, running XP, will connect to the AEBS as well, but cannot connect to the internet. I also should note that I have a Powerbook G4 that pulls the same thing the PC does, finds the wireless network, yet will not connect to the internet. My first assumption was that it was the base station transmitting in 802.11n, but when I configured the settings, I had it set to 802.11b/g compatible, so all of my computer should be working fine. If there is any addition information that would possible be a fix to this issue I would greatly appreciate it.

  • Windows iTunes won't talk to iPod? Solved (for me, anyway).

Okay so, my 60gb iPod Photo died within warranty and Apple replaced it (a surprisingly smooth process). The replacement would not talk to iTunes for Windows. Windows would recognize it as an iPod and give it a drive letter, but it could not actually open it. iTunes would tell me it needed to be reformatted. I did so with the latest Updater, and the same thing would happen.
Each step in the above would also take a very long time, like ten minutes for the Updater to see the iPod.
I took it to an Apple retailer, where they formatted it for Mac and it fired right up, synchronized just fine. So it wasn't hardware.
Scoured the kb and discussions, found many solutions, none helped.
Thinking file systems, I put it on a Mac (where everything worked perfectly again) and enabled disk use so I could run the Mac's Disk Utility. It reported nothing amiss. I opened iTunes (still on the Mac) to turn off disk use, but the Mac now could not read the iPod and told me I needed to reformat it.
I immediately unplugged it and took it to my PC. I ran the Updater there (it saw the iPod in just a few seconds) and reformatted for Windows.
Voila. Everything worked perfectly. The long nightmare has ended.
    iPod Photo   Windows XP Pro

Thank you, Michael for your sharing, yeah, I discovered this too
"Windows users having trouble with their iPods should locate a Mac user. In many cases when an iPod won't show up on a PC that it will show up on the Mac. Then it can be restored. When the PC user returns to his computer the iPod will be recognized by the PC, reformatted for the PC, and usable again. By the way, it works in reverse too. A Mac user often can get his iPod back by connecting it to a PC and restoring it.
    Tips
    a. It does not matter whether the format is completed or not, the key is to erase (or partly) the corrupted firmware files on the Hard Drive of the iPod. After that, when the iPod re-connected with a computer, it will be recognized as an fresh external hard drive, it will show up on the iPod updater.
    b. It is not a difficult issue for a Mac user to find a window base computer, for a PC user, if they can’t find any Mac user, they can go to a nearest Apple Shop for a favor.
    c. You may need to switch around the PC and Mac, try to do several attempts between “Format” and “Restore”

  • AEBS, won't let me print wirelesly. problem over 2 months, please help.

    Hello
I can not print wirelesly via AEBS, please help it drives me crazy.
    Our computers:
Macbook pro 2ghz, lates update 10.4.6
    G4 powerbook, latest update 10.4.6
    AEBS latest update V5.7
Epson RX500, with latest updates on our machines.
We have ADSL conection. I have a router which connects AEBS to the internet.
Both G4 and Macbook connects without problem to the internet.
Epson printer is connected to AEBS.
When I tried to add printer in macosx I'm able to see the printer. I follow instructions and printer is added. I can see the name of printer and lokation on AEBS. All is corect, but won't let me print wirelesly. (with usb no problem).
I played with AEBS utility where funny thing happend. There is in Network share a single IP address. When I change it from 10.0.1.1 to 192.168.1.1 addressing then I can print, but internet doesn't work. (192.168.1.1 is my zyxel router so I understand that should not work anyway).
If I set it back 10.0.1.1 than internet works and printing not.
    what else should I configure?
Thank you very much for your help.

You should ensure that under the Network Tab, the AEBS is configured to NOT distribute IP addresses as you already have the Zyxel router doing that function on your network.

  • Airport Extreme base station and Netgear DG834 router won't talk

    Hi all,
I just bought a netgear DG834 adsl2+ modem router. However, I haven't managed to get my AEBS to talk to it (the LEDs on the right doesn't light up when trying).
Connecting to internet via an ethernet cable to the router works; connecting to the AEBS (with Airport Admin Utility for instance) works too. BUT, I cannot connect to the net wirelessly.
I suspect I should modify the router's firewall or something to that effect... but I'm no network expert. I have tried toggling the DHCP settings and IP distribution on and off, etc.
There is a slight possibility that the AEBS may be faulty, although the LEDs all light up even if once only.
Please, can anyone help me out?
    Thanks in advance,
    Simon
    PowerBook G4, 1.25GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.10)
    PowerBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.10)

The AEBS gets given an IP address (192.254.xxx.xxx), which I cannot use for reserving on the netgear router (illegal address, it tells me - it should be 192.168.0.3 or something shouldn't it?)
The 169.254.x.x address is typically seen if a DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) server is not found, a valid and unique address in the range of 169.254.0.0 to 169.254.254.255 inclusive and a subnet mask of 255.255.0.0 will be assigned.
I suggest that you perform a "hard reset" on the AEBS, and then, set it up as a bridge with the instructions I provided earlier.
Also, should I do anything about the RIP direction and/or version on the router? It's currently set to Direction: both, version: 1
Let me get a chance to download and read the User's Guide for your Netgear DG834. Which version do you have: v2 or v3, or newer? Since the AEBS will be in bridge mode, RIP, which allows a router to exchange routing info with other router, should not be important.

  • AEBS won't switch on

Had my AEBS for a couple of weeks now. Since the end of last week I've no end of problems with it. Twice it decided to 'switch off' after being used for a few hours. Now it won't even switch on. Light on the front will flash green for a second or so and then nothing. Anyone else had this problem.... or know how to solve it
