AEpress Completely Stuck Due to Firmware Rollback

Right off the bat, the symptoms I am having is an Airport Express (wireless-N) that is completely stuck in one state. I can't change any settings on it. When I try to access the Airport Express from the Airport Utility, I get error -6722 ("An error occurred while trying to access the apple wireless device"). It happens on wireless, and directly connected with Ethernet. It happens on windows, and on macs, and across all Airport utilities staring with 5.3.1. When I try to perform a hard reset (Hold down reset button while plugging in, leaving it plugged in, waiting for the rapid amber light and then letting go), the Airport Express restarts, but then comes back to its previously configured state.
In brief:
I can't log in to the manual setup to change any settings
Hard resetting appears to work, but then on restart all settings are retained.
The airport works as configured before it was put in this state.
I was troubleshooting some network issues (which turned out to be completely unrelated) when I tried reverting the APExpress back to firmware 7.3 from 7.5.2. After this completed, I lost my ability to configure the device, hard reset it, or re-update the firmware.
So as a warning to you all, do not revert back to 7.3 from 7.5.2 or else you may find your self in the situation I am in. It still works as I had it configured before the revert, but I cant update it in any way. Totally frustrating!

Aaaaaaand as I was writing that, I managed to fix it. Not sure how exactly. The variables that were used that worked:
On windows, running AU 5.5.2, right clicking upload firmware in the device list, choosing other, selecting a random firmware other than 7.3 (I think i ended up using 7.4.2) and clicking upload. Instead of trying to communicate with the APExpress, it directly uploaded the firmware and then it restarted, I got a crazy amber blink cycle I have never seen before (Three fast long blinks, and the three short fast blinks, repeat). Then it restarted and it was back to normal. Woohoo! There goes 5 hours of my life.

  • Need urgent help on Sawtooth stucked at Open Firmware screen

    Hello.
I've got a G4 Graphite Sawtooth Powermac running a Newertech MaxPower 2.0MHZ processor upgrade for about 3 years. It is running Leopard (10.5.8) system.
    I've also installed a Seritek 1S2 card with a 500GB Sata disk.
Some days ago I've started to notice that sometimes when I did Log Off or Shut down the Mac cleaned all the desktop icons but then nothing happens.
Also, it started to freeze sometimes doing some tasks like open apps or working on Photoshop.
Today the Mac refused to boot on the main system disk (I have a secondary 80GB disk with Tigger installed on it).
Then I ran TechTool Pro Disck scan and it gave me an error on scanning the main disk.
I've booted into the Tiger disk (a 80GB one) and think to myself if this could be something to do with the Seriteck card or driver, or something related to it...
I've loaded the Seritek install CD and click the install firmware of the Seriteck disk, then I've booted and... it stucked on Open Firmware forever.
It is on the welcome screen of the open firmware and I can't do anything.
It says" To continue booting, type "mac-boot" and press return", but I can't type anything because it looks freezed. My keyboard don't respond.
I've tryed the firmware boot (that one with the long beep pressing the programmer button) at no avail.
I'm desesperate. I'm a freelancer and I've goot importante work to deliver to clients and I can't get my Mac to to boot into the system.
At this point I just want to boot normally into Tiger, Leopard, whatever.
I just need to boot and recover my works.
See screenshot of Open Firmware screen here:

    Can someone please help?
    Thank you for your time,
    Macjaime

I ran TechTool Pro Disk scan and it gave me an error on scanning the main disk.
If you did a "Surface Scan", and not a "Volume Structures Repair", it is telling you there is a Bad Block on the Hard Drive.
There are two cases: It could be temporary, or it could be permanent. There are two sub-cases of each: It could be important or it could be unimportant.
When you run the test, and it tells you the Surface Scan has detected an error, you are supposed to ask it figure out what file is involved, and write it down. Then you can decide whether to delete that file and replace it with a good copy.
Bad blocks may mean your drive will not be working properly in six months, if you continue to use it full time. It could also die this afternoon -- no one knows. If you can re-initialize with Zero all Data (one pass) the drive will substitute some of its stash of spare blocks for any that remain bad after the zeroing. But of course all your data will be lost, and it takes a few hours to complete.
Some readers suggest that a drive that has had spare blocks substituted may last a long time at light duty, such as making an occasional backup.
The only article that comes up with a search for "default catch" has to do with drives that are really wacked out. It suggests you back up everything and re-initialize the drive.

I have this iphone 4 which is stuck at restoring firmware. The version of windows i was using was not genuine so i installed a new one. The problem persisted.
I tried editing hosts file too but that also did not work.
Anybody can please help me out here?

hello the windows version is genuine or not doesnt matter at all,sir first of all if you are using a laptop make sure it is pluged in charge, then uninstall itunes completely then restart your computer and download itunes again and reinstall it (because you messed up the hosts file),now plug your iphone on a different usb port then start the restaure,if that didnt work keep trying every usb port in your computer, still the same issue ? put your iphone in dfu mode by turning off the phone (while it is pluged in the computer) then press the power button for 3 seconds then press the home button without releasing the power button for 10 seconds then release power button and keep holding home button for 12 seconds.now your device should be in dfu mode and itunes should detect it,now restaure and it should work ! hope this helps

  • Setting jdbc classpath in xp, completely stuck

I must be going crazy cause i could swear i posted my msg but it never showed up later on, on the forum so here i go again
    Plateform: XP
    java file: ConTest.java
I am trying to add a classpath to a jdbc drvier (lets calls it jdbcdriver.jar in d:\temp). I set it in environment variable. I create a classpath variable and set the value to d:\temp\jdbcdriver.jar
java is already set in Path, so that part work. Now when i go to run my code, i get an error Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: ConTest
now if i remove the classpath, i offcourse get "no suitable driver found" exception
I've tested and made sure that my code works. It works fine and gets a db connection when i run in eclipse, since you can tell eclipse where the jdbc driver and eclipse creates its own classpath and stuff. so the code is fine, just a problem with setting the path
I am completely stuck on this and i've spent past 3-4 hours on just trying to fix this stupid problem rather then working on my project.
I'll really really appreciate if any of you kind :) people can help me on this. I am totally stuck on this and can't move on until i get this working
    thank you very much

When you set your classpath you need to set ALL the classpath including in your case your working directory where your program is. You include the directory you launch your progam from with a .
    so something like...
java -cp .;d:\temp\jdbcdriver ConTestshould work for you...
    Hope that helps you out.

  • Stuck in open firmware

While I was browsing the internet my mac said that Macintosh HD can not be used, I restarted it and now it is stuck in open firmware and at the top of the screen it says user-abort. What should I do?

It seems that your HD has got some defective sectors and the OS can't read the data which is needed to continue.
Is it still the original HD?
If your're running OS9 you can use utilities like Norton utilities to fix your disc if you don't plan to reinstall the OS.

  • Can't install OS 9 Due to firmware

    Ok,
So I got my iMac today - with a copy of the following:
    - OS 9
    - OS 10.3
I'm waiting on my ram upgrades before i install os x, but I have one major problem - i can't even install os 9.
When i try to install os 9 it says my firmware is out of date and needs reinstalling - so it tries to update the firmware from the CD, but then tells me it can't as the CD is read only
I have no idea as to what I am meant to do now - i'm stuck in a rut with an imac that wont run any OS i have.
I'd be grateful for your help/opinions, thanks,
    Seb
    (I have a lime iMac G3 266mhz, 32mb, 6gb)

    Hmm,
I wonder if this is the problem:
"If you are running Mac OS 8.6, Mac OS ROM Update 1.0 should be installed. You must have 8.6 installed before running this update"
    That was here:
    http://www.lowendmac.com/imacs/imac-c.shtml
So this didn't have an OS when you got it?
