Aerial in/out connections get very hot.

As above, the in out TV aerial connectiobs on the youview box get very hot and the picture breaks up. Anyone else got this problem?

The connections are surprisingly warm.  On mine, the pass-though output is warmer, probably because I haven't connected anything to it - a cable plugged in would conduct away some of the heat.
No sign of it causing any problems, though.

  • MacBook not going to sleep and getting very hot

I just purchased a MacBook and have been using it for a few days. I have noticed that it does not appear to go to sleep correctly and gets very hot in the process. I finished working on my MB about 45 minutes ago. At the time it was connected to the mains and I disconnected to catch my next train. I shut the lid and after a few minutes the sleep indicator light at the front dimmed once then stayed on permanently. I could not hear the drive spinning (though the drive is quiet on this machine and there was a lot of background noise) and assumed all was OK. Anyhow, I have just taken the MB out of its case some 45 minutes later and it felt extremely hot (almost too hot to touch, I would guess around 50ºC). The sleep indicator light on the front was solid white. I opened the lid and the machine woke up. Something not right here....Also power remaining was down to 72% so something has been using up a lot of energy and heating up the aluminium!

ps. Whilst writing this email the MB has cooled down considerably but still warm.
ps2. Probably not related, but I have firmware password protection enabled
    null

I did see some of the other posts, but nothing about the MB getting so hot.
I tried sleep from the menu and this seems to work (though I have rebooted the machine since the above report).
What worries me is the potential fire risk/damage to the MB, the case was extremely hot.

  • The power adapter gets very hot.  Any suggestions?

The power adapter part that plugs into the computer gets very hot.  I have replaced the battery and replaced the power adapter.  It also has a hard time connecting and recharging the battery.  Is it possible to change out the plug in part in the computer and is it expensive?  Does it sound like this is what is needed to fix it?  Its about 3 years old.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.  Thanks.

Hot is normal for the charger but very hot is not. If it were mine It could be that your MBP is drawing too much current. I would take it to the Apple Store and have it checked out.

  • E4200 quitting every 15 to 24 hours and getting very hot

I purchased an E4200 from a retail store about ten days ago.
It completely quits periodically. Even the managment interface is gone. It seems to just die. The only fix is to unplug it, count to ten and plug it back in.
The router also gets extremely hot. I have tried locating it in several places, no matter where I put it, it still gets very hot. Right now I have it straddling a trash can so that it has about two feet of air space under it. It is still uncomfortable to the touch.
When I contacted technical support all they would do is walk me through setting it up from scratch again. I've done that many times, and I do not want to do it agian. Setting the router up agian will not make it cool down.
    Should I:
    1. Exchange this for another one, probably from the same batch, at the store?
    2. Fight with Linksys tech support to get a waranty return? (Any input on how to get them to do this?)
    3. Return this router altogether (paying the retailer's 15% restocking fee) and look for another brand?
    Any thoughts or opinions?
    Thank you

Unfortunately even turning it upside down and a local cold snap were not enough to "fix" this router.
It did stop completely locking up. I could always get to the web interface.
However, the WiFi still quit accepting clients after a day or two. The radios were still broadcasting the SSIDs, but all clients were kicked off and could not connect.
Very dissapointing. I have read other reviews that also say the radios quit periodically. I wish Linksys would figure that out and/or at least offer real tech support who could work with me on my actual problem and not just read scripts to me about how to reset the router.
I took the router back for a full refund from the retailer. I am impressed that I could get a full refund. If I hear that Linksys acknowledges and fixes this problem in the future I will probably buy another one.

  • My I touch gets very hot when charging, and it won't turn on.  I've tried all the resets/fixes and it does not respond.  Any Ideas?

I have tried charging my itouch on the computer, in a docking station, and it gets very hot.  It won't turn on, even after trying all the resets I've read on this site.  Any ideas what the problem is?  Is it fixable?

Hey Halefarm, What happens if you connect directly with the charging source with your cable, no docking station? Since resetting did not help, try connecting directly with the cable to your power source and your iPod. Next  try a different cable, there could be a short in the one you are currently using. If still will not charge correctly, I'm leaning in the direction of a failing battery. Set up an appointment to have your iPod evaluated by Apple. Have your iPod evaluated for possible battery issues. Take the cable and dock and have them tested as well. If it is a failing battery, you choices are; replace the battery, either through Apple or third party shop. Replace it yourself, if you can. Or,  you look into getting a new iPod. I don't have the cost of a new battery for an iPod 3, but I'm sure it's under $100. Check with Apple for exact pricing. Good luck, Cheers.

  • The bottom of the computer gets very hot

I just got this macbook pro MC721ll/a. The bottom of the computer gets very hot as it is sitting on my lap. I have never had a mac before but I don't think it should be doing that. Also, I don't hear any fans running. Is this normal?

The OS keeps the fans at a minimal speed because running them any faster would needlessly use extra energy and make more noise.  Manually setting your fan speed won't wear out the fans because they're brushless AC fans (so they're not subject to any significant mechanical wear as they spin).  One thing to keep in mind about SMC FanControl: Apple engineers spent a great deal of time, and probably money as well, designing the cooling systems for the computer (both in terms of the physical systems, and the algorithms that control the fans and regulate the voltages of the components).  In addition, Intel CPUs have their own separate temperature monitoring systems which will severely throttle or even shut down the CPU if temperatures get dangerously high.  So even in the extremely unlikely event that your fans ever actually spin too slowly, the computer will still shut itself off before anything bad happens.
And to answer your first question, it is definitely normal for the bottom of the Macbook to get hot because the body is made from aluminum, one of the best thermal conductors known.  Basically the bottom acts as a heat sink, allowing the Macbook to cool off more efficiently and run faster.  Most other manufacturers make the bodies of their laptops from plastics, which conduct heat about as well as fiberglass insulation or a mink coat.

  • How come every time i go to charge my ipod it gets very hot

how come every time i go to charge my ipod it gets very hot?

An iPod can get quite warmwhan charging.. Does the iPod work OK otherwise?
    Let It Breathe
Charging your iPod while in certain carrying cases may generate excess heat, which can affect battery capacity. If you notice that your iPod gets hot when you charge it, take it out of its case first.

  • HT4060 When I charge my ipad on some occasions the plug gets very HOT.  the ipad still charges but slower.????

When I charge my ipad using the small UPSpower adapter, the adapter gets very HOT on about every third use.  It still charges but more slowly.  Is any one having a similiar problem??  An sugstions as to how to correct it???

Not staff or owner by a long shot.
I just know that anecdotally I have seen people reporting issues with their mini's charging. Is there a real issue or not? I don't know. Not a day goes by that a person doesn't post here complaining that their iPad won't charge and it turns out that they're trying to do it via USB or with the iPhone block.
But while there are a lot of user fixes sometimes it's good to have the pros take a look at things, and at the very least document that there has been an issue.
the four main reasons an iPad won't charge (beyond being plugged into a USB port)
    Bad cable
    bad outlet
    bad brick
rule those out and it leaves issue with the iPad.

  • IPohne 4 gets very hot

my iphone 4  8GB (iOS5.0.1) is know 2 weeks old and i noted: it gets very hot if i recording a video or charging it.

Try a totally fresh iOS install.  When prompted at the end as to restoring from backup or set up as new phone, choose New Phone.

If the problem remains after doing that, it's a hardware issue.

  • Ipad mini charger getting very hot

ipad mini charger getting very hot. Not the ipad. What is it? A problem, or normal?

Warm is normal. Too hot to handle, literally, is not. So if you can hold it, then it's probably fine. Mine gets hot when it's charging. But if it's too hot for you to hold then you should stop using it and get it checked out an apple store.

  • Macbook Pro case getting VERY hot!

This is my first Mac, but not my first laptop. Using it for 5 days, the temperature reads out at 85 degrees F. Currently, I am only running iDVD, Firefox, and Microsoft Messenger. The temperature jumped as high as 91 degrees at one point.
While doing simple tasks such as Messenger, and web browsing in firefox, it reads at 79 degrees F. IS this normal for a Mac? I hear that Macs get very hot, that hot? Should I be returning it because it has a problem?

"I hear that Macs get very hot, that hot? Should I be returning it because it has a problem?"
From whom did you hear this? During the past day or so, you have asked some very fundamental questions, and I suggest that you familiarize yourself with the computer's operation. There's a wealth of information available on Apple's website, and it behooves you to check it out.
Rather than worry about the temperature of individual components, you should spend your time enjoying - not worrying about - your computer. Your computer is operating normally. You should use the computer on a hard, flat surface, and be sure that the rear vent slot is unobstructed.

  • Macbook Pro Retina 13" Gets Very Hot

Hi, I noticed my Macbook Pro Retina 13" gets very hot after 30 minutes of usage, practically "burning" on my thigh (it left burning mark a few times actually, especially in the summer). I usually put a book between the laptop and me to prevent the heat. Is there a better way?

What are you doing on your MacBook when it gets hot? I have a retina and it gets hot when I play games like Team Fortress 2 or Garry's Mod, watching videos on youtube, and using the iTunes visualizer. What's odd is it doesn't get hot when I watch movies on iTunes. If it's getting hot just sitting around, you may have a problem that needs to be check out as soon as possible. I had a 13" mid 2012 non-retina pro that had three logic boards replaced in less than a year of purchase. Every time the board was failing, it would freeze sometime after it was put to sleep and it would get really hot and the fan would be screaming trying to keep up. Then it would freeze as I'm using it. The screen would flash pixels of all colors in random spots all around the screen. If Apple didn't cover the repairs, I would have paid $530 per repair.

  • Purchased a new Official PSU Now Laptop appear to get very hot -Satelitte pro p300 1ay

Can any one help i recently Purchased a new Official PSU from Authorised Toshiba Dealer ,  and now the  Laptop appear to get very hot  particurlarly at the lower back of the screen hinge- What I want to know why is this happeing and is it damaging the laptop, as it get quite hot, unless I change the power saver mode, or dont have many web pages/ tabs open

Air flow is a major issue for all laptops. Therefore it is essential to make sure that several things are completed on a regular basis to keep your laptop running as cool as possible.
    1. Make sure your air vents are free of lint and dust and your fan(s) are free of the same.
    2. Use compressed canned air, spray air vents and fan(s) for 2 to 3 seconds at a time only; otherwise you may damage your hardware.
    3. Open your laptop use Arctic Silver thermal compound applied to the heat sinks on the CPU.
    4. Make sure your drivers for video and BIOS, chipset are all updated.
    5. The other way to keep your laptop cooler is to purchase a cooling plate.
It fits under your laptop and it has 2 fans and it keeps your laptop twice to three times as cool.
It helps to draw out the hot air from within your system.
I am including an image to help show the vents.
