Aero is disabled

Hi,
I am running Windows 7 RC build 7100 64 bit and Aero keeps turning itself off.
I am using a Shuttle SN78SH7
http://eu.shuttle.com/en/DesktopDefault.aspx/tabid-72/170_read-14760/
with a Sapphire Radeon HD4550 graphics card
The Windows Experience index shows the following:
Calculations per second 7.1
Memory operations per second 7.3
Desktop performance for Windows Aero 4.9
3D business and gaming graphics performance 5.5
Disk data transfer rate 5.9
If I attempt to re-rate the computer after Aero is turned off, I get this message:
The Windows Experience Index for your system could not be computed.
Could not measure video playback performance. This operation ran for too long and was cancelled automatically. You can find detailed technical information in the Windows event log.
If I reboot the machine, then re-run the assessment, Aero is switched back on.
I have downloaded the latest Windows 7 driver from Saphhire: "Catalyst 9.6 Windows 7 (64-bit)(9-6_vista32_win7_64_dd_ccc_wdm_enu)" and the problem continues both before and after installing the latest driver.
Event Viewer showed this error:
The Desktop Window Manager has encountered a fatal error (0x8898009b)
Is there anything else I can try to find out what is causing the problem?
Thanks
Nick

I am still experiencing this problem, but I have found a way to stop it happening.
I found that Aero was disabled when the PC was woken after being asleep.
I changed the Power Options so the PC never goes to sleep, and Aero has not been disabled since.
This may also be useful to anyone with a similar problem:
Force Enable Aero in Windows 7
1. Click on Start and type regedit at run
2. Now Navigate to the following registry key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\DWM
3. In the right details pane, create following Three DWORD (32-bit value) entry
UseMachineCheck, and set its value to 0.
Blur, and set its value to 0.
Animations, and set its value to 0.
4. Close Regedit
5. Click on Start and type CMD with administrative Priviliges
6. Now type following command
Net Stop uxsms
Net Start uxsms
Above command will stop and start Desktop Window Manager Session Manager.
7. Now you can turn on Aero by right clicking on desktop-> Personalize -> Select Windows Colors

  • Windows Aero Theme Disabled When Undocking Laptop

    Hi everyone,
My problem is quite simple (at least to explain). I am using  a X230 bought in August 2012 with the Ultrabase docking station and a Philipps external display (not sure about the exact reference, but I don't think it's relevant anyway) connected to the docking station via VGA. All in all, the computer has everything needed to run high quality graphics.
When my laptop is docked, everything works perfectly fine with regards to display: desktop is extended over the two screens, Windows Aero features work fine, etc.
When I undock my laptop, the aero mode is automatically disabled (even when I am plugged in and not running on battery), and the left side of my screen has no "edge" (i.e. behaves just like the extended desktop, as if the external display, which is usually on the left, were connected and running).
Concerning the Aero problem, I ran the Aero troubleshooter, which returned two issues to be solved:
    1. Color depth is too low. I checked this, and it's set on 32 bit TrueColor already, so this should not be an issue
    2. Desktop Windows Manager is disabled. Once again, this feature seems to be running (I went to Services->Desktop Window Manager and it seems to be OK).
I have tried several solutions found on the internet/microsoft forums, but none worked. I am pretty sure that this problem appeared after a Windows update (a massive one, as I have disabled automatic update).Oh, and the Intel Graphics and Media Control Panel doesn't show up either. It shows up in the taskbar when I open it, but I don't get any dialog box/program on my screen.
Regarding the "fake" extended desktop... well apart from checking that there is only one display detected when I'm undocked, I don't really know what to look for. This is less of a problem though, as I can easily live with it.
    Many thanks,
    Matthieu

I may have come up with a new lead on this issue. I found this thread on the Apple forum:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4580006?start=0&tstart=0
I have exactly the same problem with Quicktime and it may be worth trying to uninstall/reinstall the graphics driver. I really don't want to screw things up though.
How should I proceed? Should I use the "uninstall driver" in the control panel? What will happen next: black screen, poor resolution? After I'm done, is this the correct driver I should reinstall?

  • Cannot enable aero after turning on (and then off) battery stretch

I have a T520 running Win7 x64. I turned on battery stretch in the power manager the other day, and after turning it off I cannot enable aero again.
I've selected an aero theme, but windows does not turn on aero.
A screenshot of my desktop settings is here - as shown I have a aero theme selected but both appearance and  properties tell me aero is disabled.
    http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/440/aerok.png/
I'm seeing a lot of advice on how to disable it but unsure which to follow. As this problem seems to have ben caused by the power manager I was wondering if any others had experienced this and could advise on how to fix it.

I just tried to enable and disable it and it appears it is not reproducible.
I suspect it somehow got confounded by the fact I have a few monitor configurations I use:
    1. Work - displayport to U3011 WQXGA and d-sub to a samsung UXGA
    2. Home - displayport to adapter to WFP3007 and laptop lcd as secondary screen
    3. Road - laptop lcd
I quite often change the order in which I power/suspend/resume and plug/unplug the various monitors and windows (somewhat understandably) throws a hissy fit from time to time. So I guess this was just another case of that

  • Windows 7 x64 Pro, desktop GUI fails to display correctly, or crashes, when High RAM load, and even after. HW changed, same issue. Please Help.

    Hi Guys,
I have have this horror issue with my PC. I have even changed the hardware configuration and the problem still persists. My PC fails to display the desktop correctly after using highly RAM intensive applications, especially Chrome, but even after getting
the chance to close it, or waiting for it to crash by itself, the PC is still not able to display correctly the GUI, even on other browser/applications as shown in the screenshots.
    1st Hardware Config:
    Intel Core2Quad Q9450
    4x2GB DDR2
    MSI P43 motherboard
    Ati Radeon x550 video card
Software used, that seemed important for me to mention:
    NOD32 v4.2
    Comodo Firewall 5.12
    Chrome
    Screenshot Captor
    SpeedFan
    Other mentions:
Aero is disabled, because I've considered that it's one of the causes.
So, I've considered that it's a RAM issue or a videocard issue, and I've upgraded to:
    Intel Core i7 3770k
    4x8GB DDR3
    Asus P8Z77V-LX motherboard
Intel GPU integrated in the 3770k CPU
The problem just happened 2 times on this rig also, and the RAM was not even coming close to  it's maximum capacity of 31.7GB. It was at ~20GB's.
Also, this is another videocard(Intel's integrated GPU), so we can exclude the videocard from the suspects.
    My suspects:
    1) some desktop manager bugs, or other similar issue
    2)  video memory allocation - I'm still suspecting that it can be caused by the amount of RAM dedicated to the videocard, currently, I think  that it is at 256MB.
    3) some poorly designed components of Chrome/Screenshot Captor - still very questionable since there are enough resources on this system, so there should be no fight over resources. And when the system is barely used there are no issues.
    4) Adobe Shockwave Flash - maybe this one????
I have attached a set of 20 screenshots here, these were taken on the 1st configuration of my PC, using Q9450:
    http://imgur.com/a/Mc8hI#4
Notice how it distorts the image by duplicating it and showing it in a smaller space, or how does it displays those black rectangles. In those moments, the PC is fully functional(the apps are running the background), without being slowish or something, but
you can hardly control it like that. For example, I've tried to remove the mouse from the USB, and then I've insterted it back, the image was not displayed correctly, but the mouse was recognised instantly and the pointer was controlable.
Same thing still happens on the new configuration. Please advise me.
LE: OS is Windows 7 x64 SP1 Professional and it's Geniune. There is no cracked software on this PC. No games. I've tried to maintain it as clean as possible.

    Hi,
First, please be ensured that you have installed the latest drivers and all the updates.
Then check whether this issue will not in
Safe Mode. If it didn’t occurred, I suggest you narrow down the cause in
    Clean Boot mode.
In addition, try to create a new profile to see how it works.
    Hope this helps.

  • The Vista Guide

    Vista Guide For The Dumbies!
    Note
I managed to recover the old copy of this I had. But all the changes I made were lost due to the reformat. So I will get eveything back up to date ASAP!
    Introduction
This is a guide for advice with installing, and trouble shooting Vista. Vista has obviously grown and become more mature in the past year since I wrote this guide, so not eveything in here applies as it would of at that time.
    Tips and Advice for Installing
The Whys, Whats, Wheres, And Whens with Vista
    The Whats:
    What Is Vista?
Vista is the latest operating system from Microsoft. It comes preloaded with many, many features, and security apps. It comes compliment with DirectX 10 for future games like, Crysis etc. Comes with Windows Aero (if card meets requirements, ATi: X300 and above nVidia: Pending...) this gives Vista a fantastic look. It makes windows transparent, it's also fully customizable to any colour of your choice.
I'm buying a new PC, What's the Express Upgrade?
When Vista is released you will have you ability to pay about £25/$50 to go to Vista, higher the version higher the price obviously.
    The Whys:
Well switching has many advantages, but also some disadvantages.
A break down of them would be:
    Advantages: (Taken from Vista Ultimate)
    Windows Aero
    Future proof
    DirectX 10
Has a far superior look, and easier GUI
    Very customizable with colours etc
Allows you to get right in there with the settings
Comes preloaded with Windows Firewall, and Windows Defender
Far better security, things like: UAC (user Account Control) are on by defualt
    Windows Update pre-installed
    Windows Media Player 11
    Windows Mail
    Windows Media Centre
    Windows SideBar
    Pre-installed Xbox 360 support
    Internet Explorer 7
Far more options in control panel, at least 15 more compared to XP
FireFox works on it! (A lil' personal of mine)
    iTunes compatable
    WinAmp compatable
KMS server Activation for multiple licenses (Business and Enterprise ONLY)
    Supports Zune players
    Disadvantages: (Taken From Vista Ultimate)
Terrible for playing some games - puts a big performance hit on 99% of game titles.
1GB of RAM minimal! (Takes about 50%-60% of 1GB RAM running idle!) But 2GBs is highly recommended.
Has memory dump issues when display drivers aren't installed with ATI cards.
If a program doesn't support Windows Aero, Windows Aero automatically disables itself 'til the program is closed.
    The Wheres and Whens:
Where and When should I install Vista?
You should install Vista when you think the time is appropriate. Perhaps bug fixes or other things are solved. Drivers are more sofisticated, etc.
How Long Will It Take to Install?
On my machine, it took about 40-45 minutes from putting the disk in to finaliazing the Vista setup.
So obviously time shall vary depending on your specs.
Although on my 3400+ it took about 1hr 15mins. So you get what I mean with the time, yes?
Where can I find some drivers for Vista?
    32-bit and/or 64-bit:
    ATi: http://ati.amd.com/support/drivers/vista32/common-vista32.html
    nVidia: http://www.nzone.com/object/nzone_downloads_rel70betadriver.html
    AMD: http://www.amd.com/gb-uk/Processors/TechnicalResources/0,,30_182_871,00.html
    Intel: http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scripts-df-external/Support_Intel.aspx?iid=homepage+hdr_nav2_download
Now that the drivers and questions are out of the way...
    Installation!
So you want to take the challenge of Installation...?
    Upgrade or Fresh Install?
Upgrade is of NO option in my opinion. For the majority of drivers and software you have. There will be at least one of each that will not work with Vista. Thus that could stop Vista from booting. So a format and fresh install is reccomended.
(NOTE: A handy way to keep all your data is by partitioning your drive. Putting the data on the one partition, then your apps and OS on the other. I have found this to be awesomely effective when it comes to back-up.)
    The Installation Process
The process of the Vista installation is quite simple.
    0. Drop the disk in, boot it up.
    1. Wait for the setup Window to show, then click "Install Now".
    2. You will be prompted for your product key, insert it, click "Next".
    3. Setup will then show you the different versions available or automatically pick from the key you entered. (Versions shown) Choose which one you wish to install, left click, then "Next" once again.
    4. Setup will then display a license agreement. Decline; setup will exit. Accept; setup will proceed.
    5. The installation process begins. Copies files to computer, expands the files, then configures settings etc, etc.
NOTE: Machine will reboot 7 times during installation.
    Finalizing the Setup
After the installation process finishes setup will boot Vista, and display a full screen window similar to that of the XP finalization.
Go through each step, choosing to your preference.
After you have chosen, Vista will run the Windows Experience Index. Think of it as a becnhmark. This usually takes about 5-7 mins to complete.
Once the Windows Experience Index is completed, machine will reboot, boot Vista, then you may choose your user account.
NOTE: If you only typed in one user, automatic logon will take place unless a password was used.
Congratulations! You just installed Windows Vista! So check out some of the features, and do some tweaking. But I highly reccommend to disable UCC, as it is VERY annoying if you do alot of Administrator actions.
    Trouble Shooting!
Vista Won't Boot Up and/or Crashes During Start-up
There are many ways in which you can fix these type of problems.
    The first one is:
    0. Drop your Vista disk in, boot it up.
    1. Once booted, select the system restore option
    2. Choose your restore point, and restore back.
    The second is:
    0. Drop your Vista disk in, boot it up.
    1. Select the repair option
    2. Allow the process to continue, machine will reboot then Vista should boot up.
    The third is:
    REINSTALL! Lol.
This guide is an on-going thing. Updates are very welcome, and possibley any mistakes I made are welcome to be pointed out.
I hope this has helped your understanding of Vista a bit more! And that you look foreward to using it in the future!
    Thanks for reading!

  • Premiere Elements 10 64 bit GUI refresh slow

    Hello All,
Before I start talking about the issue, I want to take this opportunity to thank Adobe for an amazingly feature rich Elements product pair.  Both Photoshop and Premiere Elements 10 are chalk full of unexpected features that can be useful for any body at a surprisingly reasonable price!
Having said that, I sincerely hope that there is a solution to the behavior I am experiencing.  I am going to be calling technical support tomorrow to see what they have to say.  In the mean time, I wanted to post this in the forums, in case someone has already figured out a solution or if others are experiencing the same issue and have suggestions.  Here is my system spec:
    OS: Windows 7 64 bit
CPU: AMD Quad core 3.0 GHz
    RAM: 8 GB
Multiple Hard drives (including SSD) to split load of OS, Program files, virtual memory, Media cache files, and Preview files
After searching on the Internets and the forums, I am experiencing a handicapping Premiere Elements GUI performance lag, that apparently, others have experienced in previous versions. The exact symptoms are, relatively speaking,
    generally slow GUI response,
annoying artifacts when panels are resized, at the point of resizing...sometimes these artifacts stay there until the Premiere window is minimized and restored.  For example the timeline will duplicate itself above itself when the panel is resized
choppy mouse pointer movement while a clip is being dragged on the timeline, sometimes causing irritating accurate clip placement
These symptoms are apparent, especially on the time-line where the clips refresh at a surprisingly slow rate, to the degree, that sometimes one is looking at the screen and tapping fingers while waiting for the clips to refresh on the time-line to the new position of movement.  And this is with one 3 minute movie file (1440x1080 m2ts) on the time-line with no effects or anything applied yet.
These symptoms occur when I have nothing else running in Windows (even disabled antivirus at one point), and no effects applied.  With other programs running Premiere GUI response slows down to a crawl.  It becomes unusable.  Fortunately there is a work around, though not for everyone.
The work around from the internet is to disable a Windows 7 GUI feature called "Desktop Composition".  This work around is easily implemented as such:
Right click on the Premiere Elements program shortcut.
    Click on properties
    Select the Compatibility tab
And check "Disable Desktop composition" in the Settings group
However, there is an exception to this work around.  It only reveals itself if you are using the 32 bit version on Windows 7 64 bit.  If you are using the 64 bit version of Premiere Elements then the Settings group options are grayed out.  In which case the only work around is to disable "Desktop Composition" as such:
    Right click on Computer icon
    Click on properties
    Click on Advanced system settings
    Select the Advanced tab
Click on Settings button under Performance
In the Visual Effects tab uncheck "Enable Desktop Composition"
After disabling desktop composition this way, Premiere Elements 10 GUI response rate is acceptable (though still not up to par with other comparable or higher end programs like Premiere Pro.  I have seen Premiere Pro tutorial videos made on systems with half the resources of this computer and using the same file types of similar sizes  (on multiple tracks) and resolution with mouth watering response rates to dream for).
Unfortunately there are draw backs to the second work around, because you have to disable Desktop Composition in the Advanced System Settings, you are causing all the programs to suffer from the lack of this feature.  And, apart from Aero being disabled (which I miss using) for example, other programs that depend on this feature start to show discernible artifacts on the screen when their windows are moved around, and generally speaking the Windows 7 GUI takes a visible refresh rate hit, it seems to me.
What I am hoping for is this:
An update to improve this slow refresh rate with Desktop Composition enabled, since this feature is apparently crucial for a comfortable Aero GUI user experience which I have become attached to.
If not, then at the least the ability to  disable “Desktop Composition" only for Premiere Elements.
If not, then at the very least some way to automatically disable desktop composition when Premiere Elements is started, and then when it is turned off, re-enable this feature seamlessly without user intervention.
Currently, I am having to manually go into Advanced System Properties every time before I start Premiere Elements and after I close it to disable and enable desktop composition.
    Thanks for your support!

    Thanks all for your replies...
For some reason my original adobe ID is not working.  I tried to login to the adobe forums several times since yesterday to answer your replies without success...I tried several browsers, different computers as well...it hangs on this address:
    https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/entitlement/index.cfm?e=ca&returnurl=http://forums.adobe.com /adobe_login&loc=en
So I thought I would create a new ID and see if it works and it does, i am baffled, maybe something got corrupted with the old IDs long screen name or something, but I am the same person as PhotoPremElements10-iRLU64
    To address your reply
My experience with aero has been without problems.  I have a couple of netbooks (1.6GHz atom processor) and aero works smoothly, so my quad core has been delightfully working with aero, until Premiere Elements.
I have an AMD 4850 512MB video card with all the latest updates.
After having used Premiere Elements for a few more hours, I am beginning to find other annoying problems even with aero turned off:
artifacts on the screen when windows are undocked
I tried a video with several tracks, one video and a few title tracks, and the timeline response slowed down to a crawl
Task panel does not respect the the monitor's screen resolution.  When undocked from the My Project panel and Monitor panel, and maximized on my 1280x1024 LCD, the right half of the Task panel gets cropped off (for the lack of a better phrase) and the minimize, maximize/restore and close buttons are off the screen
Even though the pdf manual talks about docking windows, I found the docking functionality missing in my install.  The only three windows I can dock are the Task Panel, Monitor, and My Project, everything else is undockable
...I could go on, but it seems I am hitting some sort of frustration threshhold with Premiere
On the other hand, I spent an hour with Photoshop Elements, and it has been nothing but a delight.  The interface is tight, response is brisk, with or without aero.  I notice that Photoshop Elements also responds a lot better with tons of apps open at the same time.
And now as I looked at other posts, it seems there is at least one other who has similar experiences with premiere elements.  I think one of them is using it on a Mac, and has the same slow responsiveness on the timeline panel.  At the least I am relieved that its not only me.
I hope there is an update soon.
    Thanks for your support!

  • Hidden tools slow when selected with tablet pen

I'm running Indesign CS3 on Windows Vista. The hidden tools in the toolbox are painfully slow to expand when I use my Wacom Graphire pen. They work fine with my mouse but take about 5 seconds to expand when I click with my tablet. The mouse is not sitting near the tablet and I haven't had this problem in Illustrator, only Indesign.

One other tidbit; the "busy" spinning circle always appears when I hold down the mouse over the tool before the tools finally do pop out. I've tried turning off Vista's Aero theme, disabling the visual effects in the Indesign properties, and selecting "none" for the pointer scheme in the control panel/mouse.
I've heard of others experiencing problems with aero and CS3 but I can't seem to get rid of that spinning circle in Indesign.

  • FrameMaker 9 crashing on Windows 7

    Hey Framers
I have problems with my FrameMaker 9 installation. I set up a new Windows 7 (64 bit) machine with sufficient system resources - 8 GB of RAM, for example. A couple of days ago, I installed FrameMaker 9 patch 250 (standalone installation) on this machine. Yesterday I noticed for the first time that FrameMaker has the problems below:
When switching back to an open FrameMaker document after working with another program, for example, FrameMaker frequently has display problems. In this situation, I try to refresh the display, but this does not have any effect. When scrolling the document, white pages are displayed. Some time after that, FrameMaker does no longer react. I need to kill the FrameMaker process since closing the application normally is no longer possible.
    Starting FrameMaker is extremely slow.
I really do not know what's going on. Would be so nice if anybody could help me with the problems above.
    Cheers,
    Nicole

    G'day Folks,
No help I'm afraid. Just letting you know that I'm having similar problems -- slow interface and major display issues that only Task Manager > End Task can fix.
I'm using FrameMaker 9.0p250 on WIndows 7 Home Premium.
    Food for thought:
    • I've found that disabling the Desktop Window Manager (dwm.exe; used for Aero) improves the GUI stability "somewhat", and that the GUI is significantly faster when the Paragraph Designer is closed! (And having the Char Designer or Table Designer open is OK, but not both!!!)
    • I can reliably bring on the problem by Alt-tabbing to the Console window. When I do this, GUI hell breaks loose.
    • I can only save workspaces when XP2 compatibility is enabled. Hmmmm.
    • I've tried Frame 9 with the basic Windows 7 theme, with all Aero functionality disabled, and with minimal Advanced Performance Options (no Visual Effects; it looks like an NT machine) -- no improvement.
    • I've found that 3rd-party Frame plugins, structured or unstructured interface, altering Interface Preferences, and general PC utilities (antivirus, reminder, etc) have no effect on the problem.
    • My PC is quite new, with 4GB RAM and plenty of free hard disk space.
    • Yes, video drivers are up-to-date and Adobe PDF is the default (via Sundorne SetPrint).
    • I do still have Frame 7 installed on the computer as well. I wonder . . .
    Any ideas very gratefully received.
    Cheers,
    Mark Lehmann

  • Help with my eraser tool please

I got a new laptop and installed a copy of fireworks on it. It seems to work differently on this new computer than my older one. The Eraser tool is all jittery and jumpy and will even continue on after I have released the mouse button. This sure makes it hard to erase small details. Can anyone help to identify what may be causing this?
PS. I just noticed that the brush tool has this jittery aspect also but the other tools seem fine.

If your new laptop is running Windows Vista and your Fireworks is CS3, then the problem is that the bitmap tools in CS3 don't run well with the transparent Aero theme.
You can change a setting (for Fireworks) so that Aero turns off when you launch Fireworks.
    1) Go to where Fireworks is installed, usually C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Fireworks CS3
    2) Right-click on Fireworks.exe and select Properties
    3) Select the the Compatibility tab
    4) Under Compatability mode label, select the checkbox for Run this program in compatability mode for: and select Windows XP (Service Pack 2) from the drop down box.
    5) Under the Settings label, check Disable desktop composition
    6) Click OK.
Now, when you start up Fireworks, your system should flicker as Aero is disabled (there's a message, which you can disable), but your bitmap tools should work. When you close Fireworks, your system will flicker as Aero returns.

  • Lightrroom CC and screen going crazy

Hi Everyone. First time asking a question here.
Had a new system built about a little over a month ago. Shortly after switching to the Adobe CC for Photoshop and Lightroom, having a very strange problem. It only is happening when I am applying keywords to my photos and is random. As I start to type in the keywords, the screens go all white and slowly the screens return to normal. • Compatibility with Windows Vista Home Basic?

Does Fireworks work with Windows Vista Home Basic? Will it
    run on my OS?

I have Vista Home Premium and Fireworks CS3 works fine with
one exception. The bitmap editing tools are not compatible with
Aero. Copying an answer I wrote two days ago...
You can do one of two things. Turn off Aero completely or
have Vista disable Aero only when Fireworks is running.
    For the latter,
    1) go to where Fireworks is installed, usually
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Fireworks CS3
    2) Right-click on Fireworks.exe and select Properties
    3) Select the the Compatibility tab
    4) Under Compatability mode label, select the checkbox for
Run this program in compatability mode for: and select Windows XP
(Service Pack 2) from the drop down box.
    5) Under the Settings label, check Disable desktop
    composition
    6) Click OK.
Now, when you start up Fireworks, your system will flicker as
Aero is disabled, but your bitmap tools will work. When you close
Fireworks, your system will flicker as Aero returns.

The post on 09/13/2008 by lallsopp claims that desktop
composition does not need to be disabled, but I find that my bitmap
tools do not work properly unless I do. You can try it both ways
and see what works for you.

  • 990FXA-GD80 Sudden Problems

    Motherboard: 990FXA-GD80
    BIOS: 11.10 (most recent)
    CPU: AMD FX-8120 8-Core
    Memory: 2x4GB G.Skill
    Graphics: GeForce 8800GT
    OS: Windows 7
I get the feeling I'm in for another long stretch of troubleshooting, so posting this with all the current symptoms. Maybe someone has ideas that'll save me some time.
Computer was working mostly fine when I left the house for about 30 minutes. Came back to a black screen, unresponsive mouse/keyboard, and I couldn't even shut the computer down from the front power button.
The only odd thing happening prior to this was my USB headset losing sound, forcing me to disable/enable it to get it working again. Maybe related, maybe not.
Upon restarting the computer, the post screen didn't see my mouse or keyboard, hung for a while trying to load Windows, and went to a "PARITY ERROR" of some sort.
I moved my mouse and keyboard from the USB3.0 ports to USB2.0 and after a reboot or two, I got into Windows, but Aero was disabled, graphics were set to 800x600, and everything was sluggish.
    Current symptoms:
    - Motherboard showing FF debug code through entire boot sequence
    - BIOS unable to get CPU/case heat and #1/#2 fan reads, CoreTemp reads fine
    - GeForce 8800GT on IRQ10 but "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)"
    - Renesas Electronics USB 3.0 Host Controller: "This device cannot start. (Code 10)"
    - Windows 7 loads slow, sluggish performance
    Have tried:
    - Disabling unnecessary motherboard components (Audio, IEEE 1394, etc.)
    - Reinstalling graphics drivers
Heat shouldn't be a factor. My system seems to run really cool. According to CoreTemp my CPU's only at 18 Celsius right now. I've reset the BIOS to no avail.
I'd kind of like to think video card problems could cause all these symptoms since I can justify replacing that, but the on-board problems (Debug LED, BIOS heat/fan reads) are suggesting a motherboard failure. And I bought this motherboard just a month ago after replacing a defective, new 880 series. My luck can't really be this bad, can it? I'm even outside the return window for this motherboard now.

my computer usually does that too with my graphics setting it to 800x600 usually when my Graphics card has overheated while idle (good sign you need to clean the heatsinc on it or you dont have enougth air flow)!
I'm fairly confident that's not the issue. As mentioned above, my CPU temp would have been around 18C when this happened (sitting on the desktop). I have 3 fans blowing in from the front and top, 2 blowing out the back.
I'm pretty sure the graphics card isn't the source of this issue. I just tried booting with it completely disconnected and I still only get FF on the debug LED. It's like the motherboard has lost the ability to detect its own status. And I imagine whatever is causing that is also interfering with the normal operations of the video card and USB3 controller.
Weird thing is, the graphics card works well enough to be working for me right now, but even nVidia's own software isn't recognizing it.

  • Ati mobility radeon hd 5650

my pavillion dv7-4080us popped an error message, " your ati mobility radeon hd 5650 is not enabled or is not running properly" I checked the support assistant, It said - aero status - disabled. How do i enable it, is that my graphics card? or is my "ati" error message something else?

    Hi,
It may be a good idea to reinstall the drivers for your graphics card.  The latest drivers for your model can be found on the link below.  Just select your OS.

  • Firefox 3.6.4 disables aero

Firefox 3.6.4 appears to disable aero when I run a flash based page. However only Aero on the browser is disabled and the theme is still enabled on other windows.
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened

Same here, disabling Optimize Google didn't help at all.
Firefox 3.6.6 on W7 x64 Ultimate, but problem started for me since 3.6.5.

  • Premiere Pro CS4 disables aero on launch inWin 7 64Bit

    Hi all,
I have an odd problem, I've just received my copy of Win 7 Signature edition and I have installed Adobe Preimiere Pro CS4, but when I launch the application it disables my Aero theme!
I've been running win7RC1 (buld 7100) for the last few months and never had the problm with Premiere Pro CS4 in that.
For some reason, now running premiere pro cs4 is causing the Windows 7 Desktop Window Manager to stop running.
I know this because I can run premiere, it then disables aero, then i run the aero troubleshooting (with premiere still running) and it will re-enable aero (by restarting the desktop window manager) and then tell me the desktop windows manager is disabled.
Does anyone know why Premiere Pro CS4 is disabling the Desktop Window Manager when it first runs and how I can stop it from turning off Aero?
I don't want aero turned off and have to manually turn it back on with the troubleshooter!
I also have version 4.0.1 of CS4 so I've done the Adobe updates. I also have the latest NVidia drivers for my 8800GT (downloaded 2 days ago)

Sometimes the latest drivers aren't the best ones. Just recently I had to rollback a new version of the drivers for my GTX260. The NEXT version that EVGA put out worked well. I really suspect a driver issue there.
BTW, how much RAM are you running? I was STUNNED the other day to see that my GTX260 which is an 896MB video card was using 4GB of shared system memory. I have 12GB and I'm OK usualy, but wow-WEE that's a big hit. So see what your card is doing... it may be eating a lot os sys mem with the new drivers, therefore causing 7 to think you are running on an under-powered PC.
Remember, it's alway better to go to your Card manufacturer for drivers, such as EVGA, PNY, etc, as opposed to going to Nvidia.com.
