AEX to a tv? No sound...

Can I use my aex to stream music to my tv? I've got it plugged into one of the secondary audio inputs. I've got a green light and I did set it up with the cable plugged in, but I'm not getting any sound.

Well, it's not the cable. It's about 3 year old sony 27" flatscreen. My input choices are not specifically audio. I've tried a monster cable 1/8" to rca and then I bought a sony to try (same config), but no luck. I thought maybe the tv wouldn't push audio through if there were no video signal, but that's not the case (tested with my dvr video going in with the aex audio). The AEX works with headphones, so I'm not sure what the problem is. I live in a small apt, which is why I don't have a more traditional audio setup. I've used aex's before to a receiver with no problem. I wonder if I need to send it to powered speakers?

The analog output of the AirPort Express is approximately the same as a CD player. It is definitely compatible with a millivolt input. Don't use a phono input.
Make sure the master volume in iTunes is at its maximum setting. Remote speakers can have their own volume setting in iTunes, so check that also:
Try another audio cable.

Help! HP Laserjet 3050, AEX and Vista Home Basic on a Dell Dimension

Hey All,
I have been through this forum several times and found a few nuggets here and there. Unfortunately none of them have worked.
I have my MacBook Pro printing flawlessly to the HP 3050, which is connected to the AEX USB port.
I am able to gain an IP address and surf the web on both the Mac and PC.
I downloaded and installed Bonjour for Windows
I ran through the creation of the port adding the 1.0.1.1 address.
Still, I cannot print from the Dell.
Help!!
Oh and yes I have installed the latest drivers.

Have you tried manually setting the IP Addresses of your ISP's DNS servers in Vista (same as DNS addresses in router)...? This sounds like the same BUG I reported here which has yet to be addressed... see my posts on "DNS recursion fails"...

Connecting June '09 MBP to a TV - No sound.

I recently bought an audio splitter in addition to my HDMI adapter cord. So far, I am able to successfully to set up the TV with sound and audio, but when I switch into Windows with the same setup, I still receive sound, but no audio. Is the '09 MBP's sound card (Cirrus Logic) able to transfer sound on Windows, or not?
I have currently set my headphones as the default sound port - still no results from the TV. Are there any alternative ways to transfer sound?

How to use 'WPA2 Personal' only in a AEX network?

In my AEX configuration, I specifically set the security to 'WPA2 Personal' only. When I join the network I choose WPA2 Personal.
But when I look Preferences/Network/Airport/Advanced... it shows 'WPA Personal'.

Question? What machine is this on? The CPU speed? The version of OS you have? Also, if you know the version on the AEX?
There are some 'newer' requirments to have WPA2... even tho it is stated in the OSX 10.4+... it is not an option without updated versions for the Airport Extreme. I am refering to both the AEX in the computer and the 'Remote' WiFi Airport Extreme. If one can be updated (firmware), but the has maxed out... that is it. I have maxed mine out and do have it. Your machine sounds older, if that is the one you are using.
Look under the Apple Menu and 'more info'. Let us know what it is. Also, go to Apple Update in System Preferences and see what version you have on the list (the latest one).

Why does the sound keep dropping out?

Can someone explain to me in very simple terms how to fix my Airport Express so that it doesn't keep dropping the sound when I'm playing iTunes. About every minute to a minute and a half, the sound drops out for a second or two. It is very annoying. I have checked the communities, but none of the recommended fixes are making any sense to me. One suggested that it was the internet speed, so I actually upgraded my internet yesterday to a faster speed, but I am still running into this issue.
I am using a PC. I am playing iTunes wirelessly. The distance between my router, my computer, and the Airport Express shouldn't be an issue; they are relatively close together. I have had no other issues with my wireless. My Blu-ray player is able to access the internet wirelessly and stream movies with no problem, so I don't understand why I am having such an issue with streaming music.
I love the concept of the Airport Express, but I am ready to take it back to the store for a refund.

Thanks for your reply. Both my AEX and my router are set to the same channel (6). (From what I understand, they need to be set to the same channel for it to run through WiFi, right?) When I run a scan, nothing else in the area is set to that channel, so I don't think there should be any interference.
I went through the rest of the settings, and they all seem to be correct. I'm not sure how to check if it is set as a client only, but it is set for airplay and I didn't set it up to extend the network. I verified that it is set to "join a wireless network," not "extend a wireless network."
The signal I am getting from my router is at 100%, so I thought I'd give it another try after verifying everything. It still drops out. I timed the drop-outs this time, and it is actually happening literally every minute, almost to the second.
I think I might be heading back to the store for a refund later today unless I get some other suggestions on what will fix this issue. If the drop-outs happened every 20 minutes, even every 10 minutes, I could put up with it, but every minute is unacceptable.

Amazing. AEX + Epson 2200

I had to post this message because if not I wont believe what just happened.
I've had the epson 2200 plugged to my AEX for the past year through the drivers of Gimp/print... bla, bla, bla....
Well the story is that the other day I formatted and erased everything in my powerbook and re/installed the OS X.4. When i was about to fight again to install the printer drivers to the Aex i first did a tryout without gimp/print and everything went great. I was amazed and happy, obviously.
Ever since, I've printed more than 100 pages in the last week, and suddenly today while sending to print again, a message pops up saying the ink cartidage combination differes from the originaly installed and that i have to re install the printer... OHhoOH!!!
That was the end of it. Know the printer is not working anymore wih the AEX, and the printer utility will not respond when trying to install it the rendevous printer.... I dont understand.
Was it a miracle that it worked directly? Why? * ithink the same thing happened to me last year...)
Does the Aex have a delayed censorship sistem? Am I going nuts?

Welcome to Discussions - Have you tried plugging your printer into another computer? It sounds as if the printer has problems. Have you tried unplugging it, then restarting and plugging it in? Does the USB port work with other peripherals? Try posting to the Epson SUPPORT page and see if anyone there has had the same experience.

Wave Warp AEX Freeze Issue

So, I go to start Premiere Elements 4 on a Windows Vista (64) machine. It freezes on start up at the WAVE_WARP.aex part.
I have updated my sound device driver. I have updated my graphics driver. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Elements - three times. I have been able to access the program previously on this machine. The first dozen or so times I used it, it was able to launch without any problems. But now, it seems to freeze at this same point every time.
I have seen similar posts regarding this, and I apologise in advance for asking about this again, but the general answer seems to be to update drivers, which I have done, to no success.
Am I the only person that this is continually happening to? Any help on what I can do (besides pay out for another new machine, after just 2 months)?

Lucky that this is a non-technical question, otherwise it would be removed here. You probably have a version with 12 uses maximum before quitting. That is better than lottery tickets, which can be used only once. You are lucky in that respect.

AEX losing connection with AXBS and AU

I see this problem a lot in the forums, and I know how to temporarily fix it, but surely I don't have to keep doing it this way.
I have a AXBS G, and an AEX. The AXBS creates the network for the house and the AEX supplies a feed to the ATV and stereo. About once or twice a week the ATV loses the network. Airport will not show the AEX even after repeated rescans. I can physically move the AEX to the computer room and reset it, but a few days later it loses it again and I have to do it all over again. It's a pain in the tuckush and I can't keep re-doing this.
When it does work it has full signal strength and never did this that I know of before I added the ATV. Just FYI.
Does anyone know why it does it and how to make it stop.

I know how to reset the AEX since I have done 4 or 5 times now. I just don't want to have to keep doing it.

Lock ups and sound looping!

I remember reading something here about people having trouble with their systems locking up and then getting a loud static noise then a sound loop when playing games.
I am getting this about 2-3 times a night now and it is driving me nuts, I do not have temp problems of any sort and I have all of the latest drivers for everything on my system.
Any ideas?

My downloaded text sounds do not show up under the sounds tab in settings after installing 8.1.1. can someone help me please?

i downloaded a couple text tones and since installing 8.1.1, they will not show up under the sounds tab. in fact, they do not show up in my recent purchases on itunes, but when i go to buy them again, it says that i have already bought this tone. I just want to use the tones i paid for as the tones on my phone. not asking much.... thanks for the help. i hope someone can help me get the tones working. thank you.

This was happening to me too but only for some of my songs. I have a mac so I dunno about PCs, but for most of my ringtones I had to create an ACC version in itunes to make them short enough then turn that into a m4r and those all worked fine. But if the song was already short enough and I didn't create an ACC version and just turned the original into a m4r, then it wouldn't appear in my itunes.
so if you're on a mac:
1. go to get info, options, pick when you want the song to start and end.
     Has to be pretty short to work, 30 second or less is good
     if it's already short enough that's fine
2. right click and click 'create ACC version'
     a copy with the length you put in will appear, drag that into a folder or whatever and just type in m4r where m4a would be
     still make an ACC version even if it's the right length
Hopefully this helps someone else.

When i login to my account and it takes me to the desktop, the error sound plays, then the rainbow wheel appears, and finder immediately stops responding

It started yesterday when i was listening to itunes when all of a sudden the music stopped playing and i had to hold down the power button to shut it down and reboot, and then, when i logged back in, the error sound played, and then finder opened up, but the window was grayed out like i had another app selected, bu i didn't, so i tried to open up itunes and the icon started bouncing and then it stopped midbounce and i had to reboot again because finder wasnt responding. now when i log in, the error sound plays, and finder immediately stops working and then i have to reboot again because i cant click anything and i cant properly relaunch finder. please help

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, or by a peripheral device.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including Wi-Fi on certain iMacs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

Loading sound clips in my swing application

I have searched all the forums, din't find what i want.
I have many small sound files to be played in my application. Even on mouse Pressed, Drage etc etc....
Now I was looking for a better way of Loading the Sound files in memory as the application starts.....
If I use the Clip Interface of javax.sound and initilize them and open a stream, invoke the open() method, and store it in hashmap. So that when ever i need that file i will lookup for that clip and trigger the start() method which actually plays the sound. IS the approach the right approach, will not the Cip object keep the IO handle open, I have nearly 40 Clips to be loaded.
Can any one suggest me the better way of implementing this.

As far as I know,there is no facility for detecting mouse scrolling wheel in JDK 1.3.
Check it in the later releases of JDK.

Problem with sound in my Torch 9860

HI, i have been using Torch 9860 since about a month, am facing a problem since last 20 days. the problem is the sound suddenly goes off. everything else is functional , its just that i cant hear ring tones , cant hear the person talking on other side, if dialled. Every thing goes fine when i open the backcase, take the battery out and restart. This keeps occuring more than 5 times a day. Feeling miserable.. hey could anybody advise me how to overcome this problem.

What is your Operating System loaded to your device? Look at Options > Device > About, third line down beginning with a "v.7.0.x.xxx", What is yours?

Help with sound to LCD TV when using HDMI

I would love any assistance with a problem I am having. I have a new mac mini with a 40" Proscan LCD. I am using a mini-DVI to HDMI adapter and am getting great video - 1080. My issue is that via Keynote I need to get sound to the LCD TV. It is coming through the mini speaker - what do I need to do to get the sound over to the TV? Any assistance would be appreciated!

The user guide which came with your TV should cover the issue in the different connections available for your unit.
DVI is video only. HDMI is audio and video. If you are using an adapter to connect DVI to HDMI there is no audio because of this. So to connect a Mac mini with a DVI to HDMI adapter you will also need an audio cable to run the audio from the mini's audio outport to an audio inport on the TV. This is why I refer you to the user guide for your unit, because it should point out the correct port to use on the TV, as well as point out if you have options for using analog or digital audio. The mini's audio ports can do both.
