AEX4th GEN looses the network

Hi all,
I've been scouring the forum looking for a hint of an answer to my pesky problem
I have an airport network comprised of 2 Airport Extreme 4th Gen units. The MAIN one (connected by cable to the FIOS internet modem) creates the network, and the other, REMOTE, (on a different floor) is set up as a bridge and extends the network. This system worked for about 2 years without a hiccup. I recently upgraded the Firmware of both to v 7.6.1, and that's when the troubles began.
The problem is very intermittant, but consistent, and that's what makes it something I need to fix.
I have tried changing the network channel from 11 to 10, and that appeared to work for a while, but after a time, the connection was lost between the two AEX and so I had to reboot the REMOTE AEX

Hi all,

I have an airport network comprised of 2 Airport Extreme 4th Gen units.
Anyway. Today, I reset the REMOTE base station to factory specs and set it up fresh. While I did this it was connected to the MAIN by an ethernet cable. I then unplugged it and rebooted and it worked -- appeared in the Airport Utility 5.6.1. I then moved it to where it will reside on the first floor, and I tested the connection and it worked wonderfully. Good speed for the internet and maximum signal strength. That was about 2:30. I went by the airport at about 6 PM, 3.5 hours, and the AEX REMOTE was amber. It had lost it's connection to the MAIN AEX. A reboot of the REMOTE brought it up and I'm using the connection now for the past 40 minutes without incident.
Anyone have any ideas what I need to do to get this be be rock solid again.
FYI, I have the channel sert manually in the MAIN to 48(5 gHz) & 10(2.4gHz), but the REMOTE shows channels of 149 (automatic) and 10 (automatic). IS that correct? Is it a symtom? Not having the channels reflect each other.
I would appreciate any comments, suggestions, tips, tricks.
Do you think I should set the MAIN AEX to factory specs and start from zero. I'd prefer not to revert to the earlier firmware.
THanks in advance and so long for now, TOM

  • Cisco 7921: loose the network

    Hi everybody,
I'm a french cisco solutions user since three month and I've got problem with one IP phone (cisco 7921). I can't find informatrion in France relative to my problem so I leave a message in this forum.
I explain: One of my 7921 phones disconnect ten time an hour and during conversations. Sometimes, people who call on this phone are redirected to the answer message.
This phone is connected through WIFI network and Cisco Callmanager 4.2 manage all phones (we have about 80 phones on the network). I thought it was a problem with the phone but I exchange with another one and it's exactely the same problem. The problem is just for a line in particular.
All the 7921g phones in my company are configured from mac address in the call manager.
This problem occured after a storm but I'm not really sure that it's related to...
have you ever encountered this problem ?
    Thank you in advance,
    Stephane Hardy

I have seen this behavior - and related symptoms - if the WLAN is has a coverage hole or other misconfiguration. The only answer I can really provide for such a general/broad problem report is to refer you to the Voice over Wireless LAN Design Guide. VoWiFi is extremely touchy and requires a carefully engineered wireless network for reliable performance. You may want to consider moving this thread into the wireless area of the forum if you need more specific wireless troubleshooting assistance.
One easy way you can watch for this is to set the Out-of-Range Alert on the Device Configuration of your 7921 within CUCM. The phone will beep whenever it looses contact with the AP. This isn't an end-to-end test, all it can do is draw attention to a lose of contact with the AP.

  • Airport Extreme 802.11AC + 5th Gen and guest network access

I have the current gen Airport Extreme 802.11AC with a 5th Gen extending the network. With this setup, I am unable to login using our guest network setup. I have tried using guest network with a password and one without but its the same results. When a guest logins, it stuck attempting to login with no error messages.
So is it possible to have this configuration and still have guest network access?

Please review what I said originally.......that the guest network function on the AirPort Extreme is designed to work with a simple modem......so the AirPort acts as the main router for the network..
Another way of saying the same thing is that the AirPort needs to be "in charge" of your network for the guest feature to work correctly. The AirPort cannot be in charge if it is connected to another device that is already configured to be the main router on your network.....your Actiontec modem/router.
The Actiontec device combines the functions of a separate modem and a separate router in one package. This type of device is known as a modem/router, or also known as a gateway.
Some folks call a modem/router or a gateway......a modem. So, things can get confusing.
I do not know if it is possible for the Actiontec device that you have to be configured to act as a simple modem.....so the routing functions of the device are completely turned off. (Turning off the wireless on the Actiotec does not turn off the routing function).
If you turn off the wireless on the Actionec, it becomes a modem and a wired router. And that wired router is still in charge of your network.
The guest network feature will not work correctly unless the AirPort is in charge of your network.
My suggestion was for you to ask your Internet Service Provider (ISP), if they could supply you with a simple modem.  That is all that you need. You don't need two routers....and the Actiontec that you have now is not allowing the guest feature to work correctly.

  • My friend's iPod touch 5th gen is locked somehow for 41 years and she does not have a backup. Is there a way to unlock the iPod without restoring it or loosing the pictures and videos from the camera roll?

My friend's iPod touch 5th gen is locked somehow for 41 years  and she does not have a backup. Is there a way to unlock the iPod without restoring it or loosing the pictures and videos from the camera roll, the applications can be redownloaded and she had no music. Is there any known bug about ipods locking on their own because no one seemed to have tried to bypass the 4 digit code and it is locked for 26 million minutes. So thank you if anyone has any information or help for us.

Your friend may have placed the ipod next to an object that repeatedly pressed the screen.  Under certain circumstances this can lead to what appears to the iTouch to be failed attempts to access the system.  After repeated failed attempts, the Touch increases the waiting time required for the password and may ultimately lock in the way you describe.
It's been a while since this was posted, but this might be informative to someone else who finds themself in a similar predicament.

If a restore did not fix it, you have a hardware issue--possible bad wi-fi radio.

  • 2nd Gen Express keeps dropping the network

One of my 2nd Gen Airport Expresses keeos tripping off forcing me to restart it.  It then reconnects fully for a matter of minutes before the dreaded amber light returns and Airport Utility advises me it is no longer extending the network.

Try moving the AirPort Express closer to the main router and also do whatever you can to minimize obstructions in the signal path between the main router and AirPort Express.
Users often locate the AirPort Express much too far away from the main router. Example.....you have your main router downstairs over on one side of the house. You want better coverage upstairs in a bedroom on the other side of the house from the main router.
The correct location for the Express in this example would be a point that is about half way between the main router and the upstairs bedroom.

  • My MAC mini looses the wi-fi connection to a Belkin N wireless router when it goes to sleep or shut down.  I have to re select the network when restarting or waking the computer up.  I think this just started with Lion.  My iPod and iPad  have no trouble.

My MAC MINI looses the wi-fi connection to a Belkin N wireless router when it goes to sleep or shuts down.  I have to re select the network when re starting or waking up the computer.  I think this just started with LION.  My iPod and iPad have no problem remembering the wireless network.

Thank you BGreg.  That is what I have been doing, and then it works just fine.  I think it was doing the same thing in the previous version of Lion.  I may be incorrect about that.  I upgraded to 10.7.3 a few weeks ago, and then last week I reloaded the combo update, hoping it would help.  Not so.  Thank you for letting me know it is a common problem.  I have tried permissions in Disk Utilities, and in Macaroni, both at least 4 times, plus numerous restarts.  Nothing Improves.  It still can not find the internet when it wakes up or gets up.

  • AE green light but still Unable to join the network - G5 and iPad 1st Gen

I gave my old 1st gen AE to my parents as they got an iPad and needed Wi-Fi. The AE is plugged directly into their ADSL box (Livebox - Orange in France if it makes any difference) and it worked from when they plugged it in a few weeks ago until now for some reason.
It still lights up with a continuous green light and both their G5 iMac and iPad finds the network (Apple Network Bbf09-whatever) but won't allow them to sign on. There is no password (never has been) as they live out in the country side so no leaching. They can individually sign on (one at the time only) wirelessly from the Orange ADSL modem which is no good.
Tried to unplug everything: ADSL Modem and AE left unplugged for a couple of minutes and reinserted. Still the light is solid green, shows up on the list of networks but won't connect. Keeps saying "Unable to join the Network"?
    Anyone having any ideas?

UPDATE: It turned out to be the ISP. The signal quality that came in was not very good for some reason and caused problems with the WiFi through the AX.

  • I am experiencing network failures with my Airport Extremes: the main router is a 2nd Gen, the extension a 5th Gen. The 5th Gen keeps on losing connection with the main router. Any ideas why?

I am experiencing network failures with my Airport Extremes: the main router is a 2nd Gen, the extension a 5th Gen.
The 5th Gen keeps on losing connection with the main router and thus with the internet.
    Any ideas why?

Is the second Extreme configured to "extend" the network created by the first? If so its position must be such that it has a strong wireless connection to the first Extreme. If it is at the limits of the first one's wireless range its connection will be tenuous. Place them closer together and determine if that makes a difference.

  • My itouch 4 gen wont connect to the 'network' so it cant download the new airplay or the update

when ever i conect it to my computer trying to get airplay and the download it says something like 'you are not conected to the network please conect to the network and try again' but i dont know what the 'network' is. i work on a pc is that a problem?

No, but the complete lack of details and basic information certainly is.
Try disabling your anti-virus and firewall software temporarily.  Then attempt the update again.

  • After turning off and then on l7650 i loose the printer network on pc

i choose not to leave l7650 power on all time every time i power on i have to delite and reinstall printer to print

I had a similar problem and found that it was because my router would assign a different IP address to the printer each time (using DHCP) and the driver was trying to use the same one that was there when it was installed.  This can be fixed by going into the configuration for the router and reserve a specific IP address for your printer.  That way it will always be the same.  When you install it after that, it will continue to work each time.
The instructions for your router should tell you how to configure it this way.  It would be different for each one, so I can't describe that.  It probably involves browsing to the router from your PC, logging in and looking for a menu item to configure the wireless setup.  In there will be a way to "reserve" certain IP addresses for certain things on the network.  That is what you are looking for.
    Good Luck!
I may work for HP, but my comments are always my own!
If we're lucky and something I say is useful, let me know with kudos! If we're really lucky and it actually solves the issue, then mark it solved! Thanks!

  • IPad (3rd gen) loosing screen response while in media shared movie

    iPad 3rd Gen - iOS6
    Native Videos App
    Home Sharing Videos
    iTunes 11
Mac Mini - Late 2006 - Snow Leopard
When using the videos app on my iPad to watch movies that are stored on my MacMini (same network) there are some occasions where at a random point of a movie (usually about 5 minutes in) I loose the ability to touch the screen… the home button still works but for some reason the video still plays even though the videos app is no longer in the foreground. To make matters even more confusing I can double press the home button and "kill" the videos app… which usually does just that. But I can still hear the audio of the movie playing over the internal speaker. I can kill every application running and the videos still won't quit and screen touch won't work while the videos app is loaded. The only way to get the video to stop playing is to turn off the wifi and let the buffer run out.
I'll try and get a video of it, as this does sound confusing… especially if others haven't experienced it. It really only started acting up in iOS6. Any ideas?

Issue still the same even after iTunes making its own 'version for iPad/Apple TV'
