AEXPR N: no configure, no factory reset

Hi all,
This is a weird one. Today I bought my 6th AEX in succesion, my first N. I configured it to join my AEXTR N network and that worked ok, but now I'm not able to administer the AEXPR from the Airport-configuration utility. It shows up in the list and the light is green, but it just times out when I try to connect. I noticed it when I tried to update the firmware to 7.3.1.
So I tried a factory reset: unplug, press reset button, plug in, while keeping the button pressed, wait for the green light to blink four times, release. But that also doesn't work as documented.
When I plugin the AEXPR with the reset button pressed it starts with a second of green, then ± 4 seconds of amber and then it start flashing amber for a minute. After about a minute the light goes off, until you release the reset button. It start booting as normal, and shows up in the list of devices of the Airport-configuration utility. But still no way to connect...
Should I return the thing as Doa, or does one of you have a magic trick to offer?
Thanks!
Jan David

I'm getting the same light sequence with my Airport Express. Any thoughts out there? I can't get it to reset. 8-(

    Once I removed the Time capsule from my List to back up again. But after removing when i connect the time capsule, the amber light keep on flashing and i can't set up the Time capsule. Although i get it in the wifi network. ( I attached the Pic marked Majmadar's Wifi Network ). Now when i click on the icon of time capsule it shows " Time machine not configured ". Even when i open the time machine preferences i don't see My time Capsule in my list. Please help me to
    solve my problem. Thanks in advance.

    Start over and redo the setup from a manual factory reset.. do NOT use names like you have now.. this is problematic on Yosemite..
    Also do a full reset on Time Machine.. See A4 here. http://pondini.org/TM/Troubleshooting.html
    Factory reset universal
    Power off the TC.. ie pull the power cord or power off at the wall.. wait 10sec.. hold in the reset button.. be gentle.. power on again still holding in reset.. and keep holding it in for another 10sec. You may need some help as it is hard to both hold in reset and apply power. It will show success by rapidly blinking the front led. Release the reset.. and wait a couple of min for the TC to reset and come back with factory settings. If the front LED doesn’t blink rapidly you missed it and simply try again. The reset is fairly fragile in these.. press it so you feel it just click and no more.. I have seen people bend the lever or even break it. I use a toothpick as tool.
    N.B. None of your files on the hard disk of the TC are deleted.. this simply clears out the router settings of the TC.
    Setup the TC again.
    ie Start from a factory reset. No files are lost on the hard disk doing this.
    Then redo the setup from the computer with Yosemite.
    1. Use very short names.. NOT APPLE RECOMMENDED names. No spaces and pure alphanumerics.
    eg TCgen5 and TCwifi for basestation and wireless respectively.
    Even better if the issue is more wireless use TC24ghz and TC5ghz with fixed channels as this also seems to help stop the nonsense. But this can be tried in the second round.
    2. Use all passwords that also comply but can be a bit longer. ie 8-20 characters mixed case and numbers.. no non-alphanumerics.
    3. Ensure the TC always takes the same IP address.. you will need to do this on the main router using dhcp reservation.. or a bit more complex setup using static IP in the TC. But this is important.. having IP drift all over the place when Yosemite cannot remember its own name for 5 min after a reboot makes for poor networking. If the TC is main router it will not be an issue.
    4. Check your share name on the computer is not changing.. make sure it also complies with the above.. short no spaces and pure alphanumeric.. but this change will mess up your TM backup.. so be prepared to do a new full backup. Sorry.. keep this one for second round if you want to avoid a new backup.
    5. Mount the TC disk in the computer manually.
    In Finder, Go, Connect to server from the top menu,
    Type in SMB://192.168.0.254 (or whatever the TC ip is which you have now made static. As a router by default it is 10.0.1.1 and I encourage people to stick with that unless you know what you are doing).
    You can use name.. SMB://TCgen5.local where you replace TCgen5 with your TC name.. local is the default domain of the TC and doesn't change.
    However names are not so easy as IP address.. nor as reliable. At least not in Yosemite they aren't. The domain can also be an issue if you are not plugged or wireless directly to the TC.
    6. Make sure IPv6 is set to link-local only in the computer. For example wireless open the network preferences, wireless and advanced / TCP/IP.. and fix the IPv6. to link-local only.
    There is a lot more jiggery pokery you can try but the above is a good start.. if you find it still unreliable.. don't be surprised.
    You might need to do some more work on the laptop itself. eg Reset the PRAM.. has helped some people. Clean install of the OS is also helpful if you upgrade installed.
    Tell us how you go.
    Someone posted a solution.. See this thread.
    Macbook can't find Time Capsule anymore
    Start from the bottom and work up.. I have a list of good network practice changes but I have avoided Yosemites bug heaven.
    This user has had success and a few others as well.

  • Create a specific reset configuration - different than factory reset

    Hello,
    I need to configure several ipads (between 10-20) with the same configuration by default. The idea is to loan the ipad to some people and each time they return them back to reset the configuration to the one I stablished (not the factory reset). Is this possible?
    Thank you in advance,

    Hello alfred,
    Just one question. As far as I have seen, the apple configuration is only available for MAC S.O. It is there any similar software available for Windows?
    Thanks again,

  • Phone can't factory reset and doesn't have password to configure.

    Hi,
    I just receive a cisco 7960. I did the following but the phone doesn't detect "#":
    Unplug the power cable from the phone, and then plug in the cable again.The phone begins its power up cycle.
    Immediately press and hold # and while the Headset, Mute, and Speaker buttons begin to flash in sequence, release #.The Headset, Mute, and Speaker buttons flash in sequence in order to indicate that the phone waits for you to enter the key sequence for the reset.
    Press 123456789*0# within 60 seconds after the Headset, Mute, and Speaker buttons begin to flash.If you repeat a key within the sequence, for example, if you press 1223456789*0#, the sequence is still accepted and the phone resets.If you do not complete this key sequence or do not press any keys, after 60 seconds, the Headset, Mute, and Speaker buttons no longer flash, and the phone continues with its normal startup process. The phone does not reset.If you enter an invalid key sequence, the buttons no longer flash, and the phone continues with its normal startup process. The phone does not reset.If you enter this key sequence correctly, the phone displays this prompt:Keep network cfg? 1 = yes 2 = no
    In order to maintain the current network configuration settings for the phone when the phone resets, press 1. In order to reset the network configuration settings when the phone resets, press 2.
    I have tested that the # key is working as i can still hear the tone when it is being pressed. Is there anyway i can restore the phone back to factory mode?
    Pls kindly assist.

    Hi,
    the method described above is the only method to factory reset a phone.
    You must be patient, though :-) Sometimes it takes ages for the phone to move on to the next step.
    What you need to do is to unplug, press and hold the # button and then plug the cable back in.

  • HT3728 Does factory reset go back to latest firmware update.

    I have resently updated my airport express to latest firmware. The airport express is configured as an extension to my wifi with an Extreme as main device.
    Shortly after the firmware update (1-2 days) the express stopped working and status light turned yellow.
    I have since then tried to do factory reset several times without getting the device up and running again.
    When doing factory reset the status light turns yellow after releasing the button and stays amber with short interval with green (1 second every minute or so)
    I have not been able to discover the express from my iPad, iPone or iMac again.
    Could the reaons be latest firmware update?
    Any advice to get it back to normal?
    Thanks,
    Per

    Does factory reset go back to the latest firmware update.
    A Factory Default Reset will not affect the installed firmware.
    Shortly after the firmware update (1-2 days) the express stopped working and status light turned yellow.
    A solid amber light is unfortunately an indication that the internal power supply inside the AirPort Express is failing, or has failed.
    I have since then tried to do factory reset several times without getting the device up and running again.
    The AirPort Express has failed, and will need to be replaced.
    When doing factory reset the status light turns yellow after releasing the button and stays amber with short interval with green (1 second every minute or so)
    This is yet another confirmation that the Express has failed, and will need to be replaced.

  • AE and closed network...deactivated my AE and won't hard or factory reset

    Hi there. Simply set my AE to a closed network, but didn't get a chance to set name and password before AE shut down. Now I can't gain green light by unplugging and replugging, soft, hard or factory reset. Ugh! I can't locate AE on Airport Utility 1)b/c not up and running and 2) b/c is now set as closed network.
    Can anybody tell me a trick to resetting AE beyond all the given resets?
    Can I access what the closed network settings (name/password) may be?
    Thanks.

    Sure... first I tried just unplugging but it plugged back in as amber light. Then I tried the reset button for 5 seconds. Then I tried for 10 seconds. Then I unplugged and plugged back in while holding reset button. I did this as outlined in the link above for resetting AE. With Admin utilities open the the settings named. The only time I can get a green light is the first moment it hits the socket, but it immediately goes solid amber. If I press and hold for 10 seconds I get 3 or 4 flashing green lights but it immediately goes amber (in this case, flashing amber)after the 3rd or 4th flashing green light.
    When I connected AE via Ethernet cable, I had to hold reset for 10 sec to get flashing amber in order to view AE details in AirPort Admin Utilities. I get a flashing amber light and the base station is named in the Admin Utilities with the name,Ethernet (WAN), the AirPort ID and Apple Base Station V6.3. When I choose configure, I get the error message, "The AirPort Admin Utility was unable to read the configuration fo the selected base station. An error occurred while reading the configuration." I always get this far and get stuck.
    Is it that the AE is not "green", or have I blocked access to reconfigure when I put it on a closed network? or both?
    Thanks...

  • Can't do Factory Reset on New Airport Express

    I just tried to install a new Airport Express today on my existing network (Wired to a port on my Airport Extreme). The new Airport Express shows up in the Airport Utility on my Macbook, but no matter what I do (manual or continue) it hangs for about a minute while saying "Reading the Airport Express configuration" and reports an error (-6753 "An error occurred while reading the configuration".
    As a side note, which I can't seem to talk to the Airport Express, I have no problem getting to the Airport Extreme and doing whatever I want using the Airport Utility.
    I decided to do a Factory Reset to get things back to the beginning. I followed the instructions (unplugged, held reset button, plugged back in, waited while holding the button). At no point did it flash green four times. Instead after about 10 seconds it started blinking yellow rapidly (sounds like the hard reset which is done with power on).
    All the Airport Utility comes up with is the Name, IP Address, Version (a revision behind at 7.3.1), and Airport ID. It also shows the icon for the device with a yellow indicator.
    Ultimately I'd like to use this device to get better network coverage upstairs -- possibly as a 5 GHz-only port, and then set the Airport Extreme to 2.4 GHz-only.
    Any ideas why I can't do a factory reset?
    About all the Airport Utility comes up with is the IP, MAC and firmware revision
    All I know about this new APexpress is that it is one rev behind on Firmware (7.3.1) but it doesn't want to update.

    It appears that the Factory Reset mode simply DOES NOT WORK.
    By attaching directly to the APExpress via a ethernet cable (direct, no switch, so nothing else there), and by turning off WiFi on my MacBook, I was able to discover and connect to the APExpress. I changed from extend network to join network, and udpated, then was presented with a green LED. I thought things were working, so I removed the ethernet cable and tried connection by WiFI again, but still the APE would NOT show up.
    So I did another direct connect with WiFi turned off. I turned the radio off in the APE as well and was able to connect to it and update the firmware to 7.3.2. Finally I turned the radio back on, and told it to form its own network.
    In this mode I am back to getting the flashing yellow LED, and I still can't see the APextreme.
    So it looks like either I have a bad APE, or there is some firmware bug between it and the Airport Utility. In any event, after I first connected to the APE via WiFi, fresh out of the box, I was never able to connect again in a way that would allow me to actually configure the product. I've only been able to do this via the ethernet connection and WiFi off.
    And, of course, the Factory Reset simply DOES NOT WORK, so I have no way to put it back to the way it was when I first opened the box yesterday.
    I'm hoping someone has a solution for this, but beginning to doubt it.

  • Cisco 7941G phones will not boot up after factory reset.

    Cisco 7941G phones will not boot up after factory reset.
    The following happens.
    1. Speaker light lit (Green)
    2. Phone displays a firmware upgrade page (see attachment) for a few minutes. (Doesn't seems to be upgrading, but it "saids" upgrading)
    3. Saw Cisco logo with a Java Powered page.
    4. The whole thing loops again and again...
    I think the reason why the phone isn't booting up is because the phone needs to know where to find the configuration/firmware files from a tftp server. I do have a TFTP server, but normally I need to go in settings to change the alternative tftp server, but the thing is that now I can't even press the settings button...
    Please help.

    How many phones were reset and upgrading at one time? What is the setting of the TFTP Maximum Serving Count (Advanced TFTP Service Parm) on each of the TFTP servers?
    Sounds like too many devices trying to use TFTP at once.

    You may have to do this several times.
    Saw this solution on another post about an iPad in a school environment. Might work on your iPad so you won't lose everything.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    ‘iPad is disabled’ fix without resetting using iTunes
    Today I met my match with an iPad that had a passcode entered too many times, resulting in it displaying the message ‘iPad is disabled – Connect to iTunes’. This was a student iPad and since they use Notability for most of their work there was a chance that her files were not all backed up to the cloud. I really wanted to just re-activate the iPad instead of totally resetting it back to our default image.
    I reached out to my PLN on Twitter and had some help from a few people through retweets and a couple of clarification tweets. I love that so many are willing to help out so quickly. Through this I also learned that I look like Lt. Riker from Star Trek (thanks @FillineMachine).
    Through some trial and error (and a little sheer luck), I was able to reactivate the iPad without loosing any data. Note, this will only work on the computer it last synced with. Here’s how:
    1. Configurator is useless in reactivating a locked iPad. You will only be able to completely reformat the iPad using Configurator. If that’s ok with you, go for it – otherwise don’t waste your time trying to figure it out.
    2. Open iTunes with the iPad disconnected.
    3. Connect the iPad to the computer and wait for it to show up in the devices section in iTunes.
    4. Click on the iPad name when it appears and you will be given the option to restore a backup or setup as a new iPad (since it is locked).
    5. Click ‘Setup as new iPad’ and then click restore.
    6. The iPad will start backing up before it does the full restore and sync. CANCEL THE BACKUP IMMEDIATELY. You do this by clicking the small x in the status window in iTunes.
    7. When the backup cancels, it immediately starts syncing – cancel this as well using the same small x in the iTunes status window.
    8. The first stage in the restore process unlocks the iPad, you are basically just canceling out the restore process as soon as it reactivates the iPad.
    If done correctly, you will experience no data loss and the result will be a reactivated iPad. I have now tried this with about 5 iPads that were locked identically by students and each time it worked like a charm.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Try it and good luck. You have nothing more to lose if it doesn't work for you.
     Cheers, Tom

  • How can I perform a factory reset on an Apple TV over a network from another room?

    I would like to either perform a factory reset or erase user account information on a third generation Apple TV located in another room preferably over a network. This would allow me to manage the devices off site over IP with different people using the device and setting up their accounts for Netflix etc. Is this possible? I have heard of this being done without jailbreaking and I am curious to how they have done it.

    Thanks Brian. It looks like the Apple Configurator app will reset settings and account info. I will look into third party apps as well. It needs to be as simple and quick as possible as we would be doing it daily to many ATVs.

    I use Cisco switch sg300-28. When i turn it off and turn on, it reset to factory reset include login password, dose it normal operation or I miss anything?
    Thank you.
    Sent from Cisco Technical Support iPad App

    Hello Jerry, the SX300 series switches have a running configuration and a start up configuration. For the switch to retain settings, you must save the running config to the startup otherwise all settings will be lost.
    After making a change there is a blinking save icon on the top right. You may click this and follow the windows. In addition, you can go to Admin -> File Managemenet -> Copy File and save there as well.

    Notice that the first question is whether you want to erase the configuration - you respond with yes, and the router continues booting. The second question displayed clearly shows that the router continues loading the configuration file and in particular processes the no service password-recovery command.
    What would happen if you answered with n to this second question, preventing the router from accepting the no password-recovery stored command? Could you reload the router afterwards and try the password recovery procedure again?
    Also, if this router has a removable Flash card, would you be able to enter the ROMMON and set the configuration register to 0x2142 if you removed the card and tried booting the router?
