AF Nikkor 28-70mm 1:3.5-4.5 D for analog

Is there already a profile made for the AF Nikkor 28-70mm 1:3.5-4.5 D which is a lens made for analog camera's? I found this type of lens in the Lens Profile Downloader but I think it is a newer version of the lens.
If there isn't any profile for this lens, can it be made or can I make it myself? Can you give me some advice?
Thanks in advance!

Does anyone know why BB isn't offering the Nikkor 24-70mm lens for sale anymore? I just saw it on their site a month ago!

  • What lens should I get for my 5dmk2?

I shoot a lot of everything mostly scenery and creepy stuff? Looking for a l lens have about 900 to spend!

I think you should get the 24-105. I don't know what your professors say but I assure you that this lens will satisfy all your photography needs. For its price and the quality you're getting its quite a good buy. The 24-105 is the most versitile lens on Canon's lineup. It can be a landscape lens at 24, a normal lens at 50, a portrait lens at 85, a tele at 105. Not to mention there is IS. If you're shooting fullframe 5dmkii i would assume you would want to use your camera's full capacity, and by utilizing Canon's L lens you can achieve the best results. And after saying this, referring to your budget of 900, you can choose between the two cheapest Ls. the 17-40 and the 24-105 (personally I would choose the 24-105).
If you have a higher budget get the 24-70 II. That is another all purpose lens. Great for landscape, portraiture, can also be used for macro as well!
I like DSLRs and a Gear Whore.

    Sale: $2269.99
Hello, I have been looking into purchasing a Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8 lens and was considering the purchase (order online or from the store) from Best Buy.  However, the price at Best Buy is $2270 and $1700-$1900 everywhere else and without tax if you purchase from the big NY camera shops.
I understand that BB needs to have some overhead built in because of their corporate structure.  A good example is the pricing difference between BB and those same NY online stores for the Nikon 70-200 VR2.  Best Buy has it for $2400 and they have it for $2160.  Thats about a 10% over price.  The 24-70 is about a 25% over price.
Is it possible that the 24-70 Nikon price is a miss print?  I'd like to take advantage of the 18 month financing at BB but not at a $470+ penalty.
    Thanks!

    Hi
    UnChained,
    After
reading your initial post I also thought it was a bit strange that we were
selling this lens above MSRP. Because of this I have sent an email to the
appropriate business team here at our corporate headquarters asking them if the
price we have this lens listed at is correct. As soon as I hear back from them
I will post back to this thread.

  • Lightroom and DxO: fix lens flaws in a TIF file exported from LR

    Hi,
I'm in love with LR, I don't mind if people tell me that other Raw converter do a better job in demosaicing. Anyway some time ago a friend told me about DxO Optics Pro, I tried and loved the lens corrections. I thought I could prform those correction at the end of my workflow on a Tiff file exported from LR to DxO. No way! It seems that DxO doesn't recognize the lens used to shoot the image. It seems that LR and Camera Raw delete all the infos related to optics used. Any help would be appreciated.
    Bye!

I used the following command to swap exif data:
    exiftool -all= -tagsfromfile DSC_0002.NEF -exif:all DSC_0009-2.tif
The TIF file contais less exif tags than the NEF (or DNG) file, and there is no tag about the lens used.

    Drop-shadows
Drop-shadows under images both in Loupe and Grid view on Windows (only on Mac before). Though, in Loupe mode, they are somewhat buggy (they don't show until you zoom in and out) and jerky (as you move through the images, there's a visible lag between drawing the picture and it's shadow).
    Responsiveness in Develop
Also, I was surprised (and what a nice surprise that is) to see that the changes applied in Develop module are now applied almost real-time! If you look carefully in 1:1, you can see that the changes are first reflected by a lower quality proxy images, then, in a fraction of a second, re-rendered on the actual image. At least on my machine it was much slower before.

  • New glass or new camera?

    Hi Aperture users,
I have some cash saved up and want to spend it wisely: Top priority is improving the sharpness of my event shots. This question relates to photo kit, but as I use Aperture in processing and you're all photographers, your input would be greatly appreciated.
    Current Kit:
    D90
    Nikon 18-105mm Kit
    Nikon 35mm 1.8
    Sigma 10-20mm
    SB900 flash
I use 'edge sharpen' on virtually every image. So, aside from a rethink of how I'm shooting and the setting's i'm using, I'd like your advice on my next purchase.
At some stage I'm going full frame, so I was thinking about getting the Nikkor 24-70mm 2.8
In your opinion would this be sharper than my 18-105 kit?
Its just about in budget, and I imagine would serve me well for years to come.
Your thoughts greatly appreciated. Apologies for veering slightly away from Aperture, but if you have any considerations from that end that you think would help do let me know.
    Thanks,
    Rich

Probably not the best place this, as the subject can get highly complexed. Aperture can help you make an informed decision about what to buy. When i decided it was time to spend some money, i used automator to pull out all kinds of metadata to see what various settings were being used most.
Its hard to give specific advice, but here are a few things.
Even a cheap prime will knock an expensive zoom in to a cocked hat, zooms are popular, because they get the shot the prime just can't get, so no image, is one disadvantage of primes, but this depends on the subject matter. Zooms pull lots more air, than a prime, focus is slower and harder on the mechanism.
More relative to Aperture is the image sharpening. I hardly ever find it necessary to sharpen an image. Maybe just my taste.
Plus the reality is you can't sharpen an image once it has been captured. Lots of people bang on about image noise. Any part of an image that does not form as part of the original scene, is noise, so sharpening is adding more noise. At its, best and done well, it can give the illusion of a sharper image, but, great care is needed. If you shoot raw, the in camera applied sharpening can be turned up or down in Aperture, and this is very subtle. Definition on the other hand will only increase the contrast between pixels minimally and this to me is also image friendly. The sharpening tools hidden in the drop down menu are best used with great care, or avoided, as they can be very aggressive.
Camera shake is the big killer of image quality, and in tests i did some time ago with a tripod, i could not see a difference between two images by visual inspection, one shot normal gentle release button pressure and the other shot with the mirror locked up. When i looked at the point source i made for the test movement was just perceptible in the the form of mirror disturbance.
Focus, you often see pros, focus on the face obviously with the centre point, then tilt the camera down to get more subject in frame, instantly moving the focal plane to behind the subjects head.
Conclusion, all that is a load of rubbish because a good photograph beats a technical masterpiece, any day.
Except if the later is also a good photograph. The trick, is getting the balance between the two.
So it's what you do with it as much as what you have got.

  • I cannot find a profile for Nikon AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR

Hi, I have tried to download a profile for my D3100 kit lens - Nikon AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR but cannot find it in the Adobe Lens Profile downloader.
Adobe says that it is supported (two years ago: see it at this link from October 2010    http://blogs.adobe.com/lightroomjournal/2010/10  )
Since it is listed many places as being supported, it is frustrating that I cannot find it in the Adobe Lens Profile downloader.
Am I doing something wrong? Or can I download that profile without using the downloader.  Can I use the lens profile that is shown with a different camera.  I see similar lenses under D300 and D90 in the folder with about forty NIKON lens profiles (but only two for the D3100). However, under Lens Correction when I tick Nikon as model then I only see about seven lenses in the drop down list.  How can I see the full contents of the folder?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks
PS.  I was going to ask where the profiles are stored but luckily I have found them after a search.

I too would like to see this lens profile added to the list in Lightroom, in addition to the Nikon DX AF-S DX NIKKOR 55-300mm f/4.5-5.6G ED VR. I've found a similar version of the 18-55mm under the D40, but not for the D3200, and I haven't been able to find any profile matching the 55-300; only 55-200.

  • Nikon 1 NIKKOR VR 70-300mm f4.5-5.6 access via Lightroom 5.5

I posted this question on the Lightroom Forum but am not fully satisfied with the responses.  With apologies...
A profile named "NIKON 1 J3 (Nikon 1 NIKKOR VR 70-300mm f4.5-5.6) - RAW.lcp" was added to the lens profile folder when I installed Camera Raw 8.6 RC.  However, this lens does not show up in the profiles for images recorded with the CX 70-300 lens mounted on my Nikon 1 V3.  However, when I open one of the NEF files using CS6 or CC the lens profile is present.
Can someone explain why this is the case?

    ssprengel wrote:
You can test whether LR uses the folder you find the ACR 8.6 RC profiles in by shutting down LR, moving all the .lcp files in that folder to another folder above and outside the folder structure where they are now, and then start up LR and see if it still finds profiles.  If you can still select profiles then it is likely that LR is using profiles that are somewhere else, but if the profiles disappear then LR is in fact sharing the same set of profiles, and I don't know why the PC would separate them and the Mac wouldn't, then.
A further confirming step in the test would be, with the profiles still moved elsewhere, start up ACR and see if it can see the profiles or not, just in case there is some compiled or cached data for the profiles that both are using that isn't reliant on the .lcp files existing.  In other words, if you move the profiles from the one folder where you have found them, to somewhere else, and neither LR nor PS can see any profiles, then they are both using that set.
ssprengel:  I am in your debt for suggesting such an obvious test.  My graduate school profs would be ashamed of me .
I removed all the Nikon profiles from the LensProfiles directory stored under the system Library and found:
    (1)  no Nikon lens profiles were found when using Photoshop except the one profile that I copied into the LensProfiles directory under the user Library.  Therefore Photoshop uses the profiles stored in LensProfiles directory under the system Library.
    (2)  all required lens profiles were found when using Lightroom 5.5:  Lightroom does not use the profiles stored in LensProfiles directory under the system Library directory.
Conclusion (2) was totally unexpected!  Lightroom keeps a "secret cache" of lens profiles somewhere on my system.
Dare I ask someone to tell me why Lightroom uses lens profiles in this manner?

  • Profile for Nikkor 24-120 F4

Athough both LightRoom and CS5 both have profiles for the 24-120 Nikkor lens, it is not the New Nikkor 24-120 F4 lens. I would assume that it will be in the next release of Lightroom. Right now, I edit the raw .nef file in CS5 and then open "Lens Profile" and have CS5 do a web search, which does come up with the right profile for the 24-120 F4 lens. That is a long way around to to do a profile update and then have to save the file as ps file and return it to Lightroom. It would be much easier if the new profile for the lens was in the Profile List. Adobe... I do hope you are viewing and listening!
    Tunney

    Tunney,
Have you tried the Adobe Lens Downloader application? http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/lensprofile_creator.html Using this application you can avoid going near Photoshop. • In Camera raw PSCS5 lens profile for AF-S Nikkor 24 - 85mm f3.5 - 4.5 G is not listed

In Camera Raw Photoshop CS5 lens profile list. The lens AF-S Nikkor 24mm - 85mm f3.5 - 4.5 is not included

There are some lenses that are not that popular, so no profile has been created.  You can create your own profile:

  • Sony FE 28-70mm in camera + Lightroom lens correction = double correction or overcorrection?

    Hello,
I have a Sony A7 with Sony FE 28-70mm kit lens. On the Sony A7, if i select "Shading Compensation" in the camera menu, the camera corrects vignetting in the saved raw file. I have experimented by taking two raw photos, with in camera Shading Compensation turned on and off. I then imported the photos into Lightroom. I then tried turning lens compensation (vignetting) on and off in Lightroom. This confuses me. In the first image (In camera ON and Lightroom correction ON) it looks like vignetting is completely gone. With in camera ON and Lightroom lens correction OFF, there is still clearly remaining vignetting. With in camera OFF and Lightroom ON there is also clearly remaining vignetting
Can someone tell me what the recommended course of action is? Is the Sony in-camera lens correction worse or better than Lightroom? Neither the in-camera nor Lightroom's correction will correct vignetting completely on their own. Does that mean that the Lightroom correction is supposed to be used in tandem with the in camera correction to achieve full vignetting correction? There is lacking information/documentation of this feature, I have looked at both Sony A7 help guide and Adobes documentation about lens correction without finding any info about this situation.
    Thank you.

"Shading Compensation" is probably saved as metadata tag in the raw file but the raw file data is not corrected.  This metadata is probably used in the included Sony software to automatically correct the raw for "Shading Compensation" but Lightroom probably does NOT use this data.  You will hopefully get a reply from a Sony user.

  • Camera RAW v7.3:Lens Profile for Nikkor DX 17-55mm

    Hi,
LR v4.3 correctly reads from NEF the lens Metadata like: Nikon AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor 17-55mm f/2.8G IF-ED. This lens profile is properly assigned to the corresponding NEF file.
Still in LR when converting the same image (via export dialog) to TIF, again this lens profile is used and reflected in the TIF-output (including metadata). So far so good.
When converting the same image in Nikon Capture NX2 of course the lens profile (as set in LR) is NOT reflected in the TIF-output. This (should) can be taken care of by enabling a lens profile correction in LR (after import TIF into LR).
The thing is that LR suggests to apply a profile for lens: Nikon AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor 14-24mm f/2.8G IF-ED. This profile is probably not the same as for the 17-55mm lens.
Unfortunately a profile for the Nikon AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor 17-55mm f/2.8G IF-ED is not listed in the selection options.
    Question is:
    How can I best obtain a proper profile for the lens: Nikon AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor 17-55mm f/2.8G IF-ED ?
I find it strange that Camera RAW v7.3 has the proper lens profile for the NEF but suggest another profile for the TIF version of the same file. Apparently the profile is available for NEF but not for the TIF.
    How comes?
Would appreciate to receive some reasoning and possible solutions.
    Thanks, Hans.

    My findings:
The lens profile in ACR is for RAW files.
For converted files (TIF, JPG, etc.) a different lens profile applies.
Reason(s): The metadata of the TIF-file is not specific enough about lens profiles. (Lens profiles would need to be embedded - they are not).
For example: Has the TIF-file been converted from RAW using a profile or not? If so, the specific name of the lens profile and it's physical location would be needed.
Meanwhile it makes sense for me that this part is left to the user.
The Adobe LensProfile Creator allows to produce a suitable profile for specific needs.
For many popular lenses there is a non-RAW lensprofile (for TIF, JPG etc.) available that might be applied by the user.
Thanks 'Geoff the kiwi' you lead me onto the right path to find the answers to my questions.
